What does the "Auto update of time and date" on starting mean? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What does the "Auto update of time and date" on starting mean?
Please see the attached screenshot of my mobile phone while starting. I just wonder that what the "Auto update of time and date" means?
http://dl-1.va.us.xda-developers.com/3/3/1/3/2/6/9/Auto_update_of_time_and_date.jpg?key=KtgFcVGaSBudmzNAc-E_4w&ts=1431653976
Thank you for any explanation about that in advance.

I'm gonna take a guess in the dark... but I think it means it is auto updating your time and date. lol
You might have Automatic date and time or automatic time zone set in your date and time settings.
If you don't want that, you can deselect and set your own time and date (without it checking online/over your network).
PS
You can also go into your Sounds and Notifications settings and change what notifications you see on your lock screen, etc

Cant turn off my alarm

...dont know what have happend. I dont get the alternative to turn of the alarm, i have to restart it to get it to stop. Is there a quickfix to this bug or an app that works better or something?
Go to Start-Settings-System- Clocks and Alarms-Alarms
Make sure none of the three are ticked.
well i am useing it as my alarmclock in the morning. So thats not the problem. The problem starts when the alarm goes off. I used to get a turn of alarm/snooze buttons on the screen to turn off or not, but that doesnt show.. and when i open de settings for the alarm and unklick in the checkbox it still dont turn it off.... wierd.
i belive i have a similiar problem.. the "pop-up box" asking you to wether to turn of or snooz your alarm has dissapered and won't come out again. yet you can (if accurate enough even though you just woke up) tap the small bell-icon in top of screen bringing up a larger screen with those present icons, click the bell icon again (less accuracy this time) that action will bring up this pop-up box and you get to choose, turn of or snooz. GL
I belive that
Start/System/Clocks and Alarms/Alarms
and from here navigate to the second tab.
Chose the event Reminder and check the event called 'Show alarm on screen'
I do have a danish ROM - I do hope and believe tha I'm on track with the naming of the menus/events.
I have trouble with it too - it seems that it now and then gets unchecked perhaps on a soft reset - I haven't figured out yet - but It's noticed when my alarm goes of in the morning, if I can or can not stop it easily.
As described, clicking on top i taskbar on the Bell is the way to hit the alarm if no popup is available.

Wrong time zones

So I've had this problem with pretty much every T-mobile phone I (and anyone I know) has had while being at college. I am in central time, but am only about 20 miles from the eastern timezone border and T-mobile is always trying to tell me I am in eastern time.
All of my old phones have had a simple setting to turn off automatic updates of the time, allowing me to set it to central time and not have to fool with it. I can't seem to find this setting for the HD2 though. I don't want to turn off HTC's location as that will stop the weather tab from being able to find me, and that isn't really the issue anyway. If anything the GPS should be telling my phone I am in fact in central time.
Does anyone know where to find the setting that stops the phone from updating it's time based on what the network says? If possible, is there any way currently to have the GPS set timezones for us, as that is going to be more accurate than what tower you are getting signal from?
Thanks!
Idk if this will help you, but have you tried tapping on the clock on the home screen and you then can add your custom location or current location ....maybe there are other settings there also ?
Go to settings>menu>all settings> date and time, there you should be able to change the time zone.

This works fine but there is no option for Daylight savings time. Must have over looked it. Just select central time and manually change one hour ahead.

I personally have called T-Mobile about this and even speaking with a Teir 2 I am disappointed. They reset my ports and the time zone correctly updated, then as soon as I left my house and headed downtown it changed. Guess what, as soon as I got back home later it changed back to Pacific.
On the HD2 the option to change the timezone is greyed out indicating that it is updated from the carrier. I have changed the other settings every which way with no avail.
My theory is that the HTC Sense "Weather" app automatically updates the Time and Weather based upon the GeoLocation info. The name of my city is Portland and I suppose it thinks im in Oregon!
I have tried the various clock settings but to no avail. I can click on the flipclock and change the time manually, or even pick my own location rather than using Sense's "My Location" option. This works for a little while, but when the wether updates it's weather data it also changes my location.
I have also gone into the All Settings->Clocks & Alarms and changed the time zone manually which also works temporarily, but again once Weather updates the timezone is changed.
BsB Tweaks has a setting for Auto Sync Clock which is precisely what I need turned off. Oddly enough, there is something outside of BsB that overrides it's setting and turns the Auto Sync Clock setting back on.
It completely boggles my mind what is going on here. In theory the Sense's weather app should not directly affect whether or not the system clock is synced with the network time/timezone data. More so, if Sense decides it must update the clock whenever it finds the weather location/data it should be able to update the clock based on what timezone my GPS location is within.
Maybe there would be a way to add this feature in, though I'm not sure exactly how to go about it as I haven't done any tweaking and hacking on WinMo in years. It would be best for everyone if our clock was synced with the My Location data, as this gives an extremely precise understanding of what timezone I am in.
The automatic timezone settings may be in the phone settings and not the clock settings. Try going into the dialer then select Menu--> Options and click the Timezone tab. Then uncheck the the box to automatically update.
I do not have a T-mobile USA HD2 yet (mine is on order), so this is an assumption as that setting is available on my Diamond. If you don't see a TimeZone tab, it could be that T-mobile is hiding it. In which case there is probably a regedit to re-enable the tab so this can be unchecked.
Hope this helps.
hadn't thought about looking in the phone settings for the clock synchronization, great idea! that may have lead me to the solution, I'll see what happens in the next few hours.
Here is what I did...
Settings-> all settings-> personal-> phone->GSM/UMTS tab-> time synchronization-> get settings> uncheck auto time synchronization
I don't think they could have hidden that simple setting anymore if they tried! hopefully that will do the trick, thanks!
Time Change
My phone was doing the same thing, thanks for the fix. Duhhh, did it again this time i manually added my city and the correct time for it however the tab with current location is still an hour ahead, crazy. Help...
HTC HD2 (Leo) Time Zone Problem (Greyed Out)
Almost - My HTC HD2 (Leo) goes: Settings ->Menu->All Settings->Clocks&Alarms
Then click the 'Time' tab, and there's a dropdown where you can choose your time zone. You'll almost certainly have to set the time dropdown as well (just under the time zone dropdown).
But you're right - they certainly conceal this most primary of settings very thoroughly!
Cheers, Mark

Status bar TIME problem.

Is anyone able to get the time on the statusbar to update itself/refresh/work using timezones that AREN'T GMT+0000 [Casablanca]?
Mine seems to only be able to work if my timezone is set to that. Any other timezone and it just "freezes" although the time in "Settings -> Date and Time" is correct.
Hi, yep the status bar time is buggy, I use ClockSync for it...and sometimes it works.

No Date on Lock screen - SOLVED

Hi Guys,
i cannot get the date displayed on the lock screen, anything i can do about this?
I just got my Galaxy S4, the date has gone missing from my lock screen clock. Now it only shows the actual time but no date at all.
I didn't purposedly disable it or anything. I just wanted to remove the personal text. So i go to the options, and select clock only. But now the date is gone as well.
Re-enabling the personal text won't work. Changing clock size doesn't work either. Changing the type of lock doesn't work. I tried all of them. Face unlock, pattern, pin, and so on. I really can't enable it.
And of course i checked that the date option is enabled. Theres a checkbox for the date alone. But this does absolutely nothing in this case.
I know it's just a small thing... But it just looks kinda stupid, that only the clock is displayed. Only things i changed on the lock screen, are the picture, and removed the personal message. Oh and added the pattern lock feature.
Phones brand new and just released. So finding advice is really difficult. So hoping this might help!
SOLUTION:
Go to: Date and time setting, change the date format, anything, check the lock screen, change back the date format if you wish to. Never give up

Bump again...
Help pleaseee..
check to see if the date comes back if you use another lockscreen other then pattern lock. If does work on another screen, you have to wait for an update to address the problem.
If does not then there is an issue that may be address by newer firmware.
No luck, already try the pin and the pattern now back to swype which is no lock, still no date....
Hi.
I had the same problem. I solved it by setting up the alarm. I should bring it back. You can then turn off the alarm if you don't need it. But make sure that you turn off the alarm first if it is on and then turn it on.
Hope this helps

Have you checked Settings-My device-Lock screen-Lock screen widgets- show date. Then hold down the power button, hit Restart. See if that works

How To Prevent System Update - and get rid of notification?

I have a ZB602KL which is now rooted with TWRP and Magisk. It is on Android 8.1 and I keep getting notification about FOTA updates - sometimes a really HUGE one. I am not really interested in the update and want to turn this all off. I did something similar long ago on my old Note phone but doubt that would work here. Any suggestions? Thanks
yeah.... even me getting always the notification of PIE update.. how to make it shut...as it can be mute for only 2hrs... and again it comes

Go to settings>apps>show system app>FOTAupdate. Force stop the app. Now the notification will not bug you till the next time you restart your phone.

Enable developer settings.
In developer settings, scroll down to the last. Somewhere towards the last, you'll find a setting called background check, enter this setting, scroll down to FOTA service and turn off its background check.
Go back in settings to apps and notifications. Select all apps and select show system apps from the three dot menu. Scroll down to FOTA settings and turn off background activity for the app (this is under battery settings).
