I am torn between subscribing a two year contract between lg g2 and s4. I dont take into account the newer phones cuz they are a lot expensive. Which should I purchase? I am more into camera, games and multimedias. The things stopping me from leaning to lg g2 is the wierd button placement and the non expandable storage. Is it really uncomfortable in using the volume and wake buttons? I had been reading reviews thesee past few days and alot of the says the speaker are weak and its placement is not good. It csn be easily obstructed by hands. But I do think the g2 is better than s4 due to newer processor and gpu. Any advice on this matter? Thanks in advance

I've had similar doubts recently, and decided to move from Galaxy series to LG.
My first impression regarding buttons position is that there is a perfect reason to put them at the back. I'ts just a matter of getting just on them, and it took one day.
Camera is quite nice, with quality photos in all conditions. If you are devoted mobile photographer, maybe there are some better choices, but for an average user, camera is more that one can expect. (Good camera review)
Speaker is kinda week, and can be obstructed by hands, but, it is not bad at all.
G2 is really a beast, no need to talk about hardware. It isl really a superb smartphone with exceptional screen.
Software is surprisingly nice and friendly to advanced users. I am Cyanogenmod fan, but can live with LG stock ROM without any problems.
If you don't need tons of files on the phone, and don't need long HD video recordings, lack of external storage should't be to hard to live with.
If it means anything, I really believe that currently G2 is a best buy and smart choice

I can live with weak speakers since usually im using headset. But a photowhore hahaha lol. I tend to snap photos every now and then. But the limited memory makes me think twice. I love lg g2 but I also love saving up video clips so I ca watch them back every free time. And also does the g2 have a good community support with awesome devs? I tried searching for miui for g2 but I found no favorable response

the S4 is a great phone, but if you purchase a s4 you'll get a Triband version. I just came out of the S4 and the development is no where near where the LG G2 is. The sprint S4 SPH-L720T can use all of the regular S4 non triband (sph-l720) roms, but guess what, no Spark. If your okay with that, then there is alot of roms and development on the S4. However, on the LG G2 they have more roms and they the roms work across all the variants. That is one reason i really liked it.
The LG G2 already comes with a really close AOSP feel. In fact, out of the box there is very much small things you actually have to do to get it to AOSP. And whatever is missing you can get with Xposed Framework. I sure do not regret it. Even the battery life is better on the G2 because its slightly bigger. The AMOLED screen on the galaxy series have started to bother me becaause im a Graphic Designer and the colors are just too vibrant. On the G2 the colors are right on the money as its the same color space SRGB compared to our monitors. Good lucks man, this device is amazing, it does not get the attention it should. I like Galaxy though because the Developing (for the non triband version) is extremely extremely ahead of its game. But, as long as i have recovery, root and of course deoxed and init, kernel and underclocked, im a happy camper. Sorry for any mistakes, i dont wanna go and proofread. lol

the g2 community is great and the devs are awesome, and offer plenty of support for their roms, there is currently no working miui port for the g2 if that's what you are looking for(there is a v6 port somewhere but it doesn't boot), the 32gb version should satisfy you unless you planning on recording hours of 4k videos(supported with camera mod), also if you are into photography than the stock camera is not all that worth it, root and camera mod will do wonders for the phone
Man no doubt!! G2 is amazing!! is better than S4...
true
That is true, G2 win.
As you may see at STUFF.TV G2 is at second place, beating even S5
Same question asked in Facebook android group before buying LG G2 ......

I spent a lot of time researching these two options. I had a slightly different short list of functionality that I wanted (both that I could or couldn't live without). The G2 has better hardware specs than the S4, as you probably know, and the benchmarks generally beat it (which gets to your multimedia/gaming requirements). But, they're both great phones and i'm sure you wouldn't have problems with either. They are similar, outstanding phones.
I decided on the G2 because of its camera OIS (only android phone that has it, period). And, it consistently got better reviews on almost all photography-type sites than any other android phone (s4 included). I love the camera, it is very good (for a phone). I just put its HDR pictures and videos on a 720p 50 inch TV - they look outstanding. Obviously not as good as a real camera...
[I've posted this question elsewhere, but as it's relevant to both the G3, S5 and general android forums I thought I'd crosspost. Please tell me if this is unacceptable and I'll remove it]
I'm finally moving on from my original Samsung Galaxy Note, and I'm debating what device to move to. This will be my one and only phone, so I'm looking for something well rounded.
After reading reviews of a lot of the best phones on the market, I'm leaning towards a LG G3. It looks and feels fantastic, has a really good camera in both day & night conditions, the screen is awesome, it *seems* to hold up underwater (in spite of no official IP rating), the battery life seems pretty good, etc.
That said, some of the overheating issues I've read about are worrisome - as well as a few other stability issues... I'm not sure how much stock to put in that.
So I'm also considering the Samsung Galaxy S5. It doesn't feel as great, the screen isn't as mindblowing - although it is more vibrant, the camera doesn't do as well in the dark, it seems like one of the most durable phones out there, etc.
Is the S5 significantly more stable than the G3? How do the development communities compare - are they on par in that regard? Can the stability / overheating issues of the G3 be successfully mitigated with tweaks? Is it going to be a nightmare to wrangle into shape?
Or is there another AT&T phone that you'd recommend? Other phones on my radar include the Flex, Note 4, M8 and OnePlus One...
I guess I'm looking for something that's going to hold up as a primary phone for a long time, both in terms of durability and specs, without becoming a nightmare to manage as my Galaxy Note has... and aside from that, my priorities include battery life, stability, video recording (especially in dark conditions), processing power, screen, look / feel, etc. in roughly that order.

There's no need to be sarcastic.
Of course I've Google'd, YouTube'd and read up on the phones I'm interested in. That doesn't preclude a comparison discussion within the development community from being helpful.
If you don't want to respond... then don't respond -- but please do not get snippy with me for asking.

If you're into larger screens you may be better off waiting for the note 4. It has a better build quality then all the others mentioned, an excellent screen (rated the best amoled screen out), and a great performer as well. Development doesn't look like its going too rapidly in the LG forums, so it all depends on what you're looking for. You can always buy your first choice and test it out in the return period and see what you like/dislike about the phone. The only really way to know is get your hands on it.
*Mods take note: I have posted a similar, post in the M8 forum with different questions specific to that phone. Please do not delete either of these posts. Thank you
Hey all! I currently have the One (m7) on T-Mobile and am considering switching to either the M8 or the G3. My friend has the G3 and the screen on it and the replaceable battery are pretty big selling points for me. Can anyone that's switched from either the M7 or M8 to the G3 give me some feedback to your experience?
Here's a few questions I'd like answered:
I've been reading the forums and it seems there are tons of posts from early August that talk about the G3 feeling laggy out of the box because of the QHD screen being powered by a processor typically used for 1080P. Is this a thing? Has it been rectified?
There are also several posts from August about the screen being too "warm" in color (yellow)... is this still a thing or was it a thing only for certain batches?
Has anyone switched from the M8 to the G3 or G3 to M8 and regretted their decision? Why?
Is LG's interface difficult to get accustomed to over HTC's Sense UI?
Does LG keep up with releasing the latest version of Android to their phones?
I play Clash of Clans a lot, anybody got battery experience with this game on these phones?
Anybody have experience with the G3 and either Square Register or Paypal Here?
I've had 6 HTC phones in a row and loved them all, I'm considering switching to the G3 primarily because most of the reviews I read recommend it over the M8 by a hair, but HTC is pretty on-the-ball with providing updates for their phones. I'd prefer user feedback from people that have used both, or all three. Thank you all so much for your feedback :good:
M8 rules,
I have both the G3 and M8. G3 is slow. nothing touches m8 in speed.
But the M8 has a ****ty camera.
COC is better on the big screen of g3

Which phone takes better low-light photos? I'm a DJ and I take a lot of pictures of my crowd... Also my M7 has the "purple camera issue" in low-light now. Does the M8 or G3 suffer from this issues?

i have both phones as well, i like the G3 UI more bc its less intrusive. i chose the g3 over the m8 bc i like the aspect ratio more.
Read the forum rules again i think mate. This is a comparison thread so it will be deleted/closed. Useless asking the mods not to delete, rules is rules as they say (and no they are not meant to be broken here lol)
u are best off going to phone comparison websites and making your own decision because the M8 is going to win hands down in the m8 forum and the G3 will win hands down in the G3 forum.
Oh yeah..........., reported
If you can live with a smaller mp. Camera go for the M8. Only one single thing is better on the G3, the camera. I've had booth and one of the easiest choice ever.

There's no comparison here, I'm asking for questions on the G3 only. M8 questions were left in the M8 forum. If you think this is a comparison thread, you didn't take the time to read the post in its entirety. I've used XDA for over a decade, no need to remind me of the rules, thanks.
The G3 has a removable / replaceable battery, which is a big part of the reason I chose it. I also much prefer the appearance of the G3, with the very small bezels and no empty black space on the screen.
Yes, the G3 lags a bit, but if you're comfortable with rooting (a very simple process on this phone) it can be fixed easily.
I can't address the speed of updates, as this is my first LG phone.
I have both and keep switching back and forth. It is a tough decision. The M8 is easier to handle, sounds better, the cam isn't that bad, and it is fast. HTC is also way faster than others on updates. And, well, you can unlock bootloader and do what you need. G3, screen is awesome, feels good in hand, camera is wow. I used to defend the speed of the G3, but after going back to the M8 for a month, yes, there are lags. I am one of those that really believes that the lag issues will be taken care of with an update, and at this point I think LG is waiting for L, and will take care of it then. It's a tough one, but overall as a serious keeper, I think I would pick the M8 because of updates, and well, it just looks cool and a year from now it will be still cool.
After being with windows phone for some time now and getting back into android I found the M8 to be as close to windows for speed and smoothness. I also got the 1+1 and G3 and even though the G3 has the most lag of the 3 of them I still sold the M8 and 1+1 after having the G3 for just over a week.
The screen is better than the other two(especially the 1+1) but the overall size of the phone is perfect, I found the 5" screen to be just too small but that could be down to the fact that my other main phone is a Nokia 1520
I find the G3 easier to use than the other two with one hand because I tend to hold the phone in my right hand with my little finger under the bottom of the phone. The in hand feel of the G3 is better as well.
The battery doesn't last as long on the G3 but it is replaceable and I have found that with a few different settings after rooting I can get the G3 closer to the M8
I'm getting a new phone soon, and I'm stuck between the LG G3 and HTC One M8. I know this is the G3 forum but I hope I'll get honest suggestions from here.
Can someone please honestly answer my questions:
1. Since I'm coming from the Moto X 2014, I need a fast enough and future proof (duh, till 2016 Jun) phone. I sold it because the screen was fragile, display was so yellowish to my liking, camera wasn't good, no dev support, poor headphone output, poor battery and tempered glass protectors won't even fit properly. My question is, is the G3 really fast enough for the period I stated above? I don't want any lag or frame rate issues on my phone, even with games like MC5 or any other GPU demanding game.
2. How's the battery of the phone? I know about the stock figures, but with a custom ROM, and custom kernel, how many SOT can you get?
3. How's the headphone output? Is it comparable to the One M8 after some tweaking?
4. I don't mind chaging the screen resolution to 1080p, but after changing it, is the phone completely stable? I don't need bugs or any stability issues.
I really like the G3 for its screen size and camera (camera isn't a big priority though), a GB of RAM extra, bezel less design. While, the HTC M8 is cheaper, with some good Harman Kardon earphones, much better speakers, better performance.
Help me out please!

Well i would suggest the G3 for the same reasons i got it, the camera is far better than the M8, the video recording is up to 4k, the screen can't be lowered in resolution so the battery might drain a bit more than the M8 but the battery on the G3 has more capacity, the phone lasts me a whole day and a bit more but i always charge it each night, the phone is bigger in screen size and overall size but the feel on the hand is quite good, im typing using one hand so that should say a lot, the phone is plenty fast and the added gig of ram future proofs the phone a bit more, i would say hold out for the g4 but if you need to buy now then get the g3 i have already owned it for almost a year and the phone has been fantastic, im currently using the stock 4.4.2 firmware because lollipop breaks root and there is no shortage of roms so you can customize away with your liking. Overall get the G3. Also a minor detail that is easily noticeable on gold and white phones are small hairline cracks on the mics and ir blaster so if that is an absolute deal breaker get the m8 and if you get the at&t version then watch out cause sometimes some phones the wireless charging stops working good thing is at&t will exhange it but you have to press that the issue is the phone not the accesories. Overall is the best phone i have had since my sgs3

Some reviews say G3 is better, some say M8 is better. So I can't decide on one.
The only thing holding me back from the G3 is the lag. I got into some G3 threads and it seems the phone really lags in gaming too. If the lag wasn't there, G3 was the better phone obviously. I can't wait for the G4 because I'm getting these for cheap.
I don't want lag in ANY game or app. :/
With stock based custom rom I don't have lag.
With aosp based rom is incredibly fast.
I have both (actually my wife has the M8).
G3 pros
1) better camera
2) better screen
3) better in hand sensation
4) more updates (about 3 in 3 months)

I really dont understand why people say theres lag in games? i have this phone and dont get any lag in games at all and im on a stock rom too, personally i think G3 is a better phone than the m8, screens bigger with great screen to bezel ratio, quality of the screen is better imo, battery life maybe isnt better as this phone has a bigger screen and higher resolution screen (btw watch a high def movie on the LG G3 and it looks amazing). i bought my LG G3 for £280 brand new sim unlocked, for that price you cant go wrong.
I think the screen on the G3 is really good. It's what I liked the first time I seen it. Not that it was big but because it looked so clear. I used to calibrate displays and I think overall its one of the best screens I've seen on a phone. It definitely lacks black level but makes up for it everywhere else. Sharpness is now modifiable.
-A modified G3 can reach the M8 in benchmarks so speed may be comparable.
-A modified G3 can reach 80fps in Quadrant benchmarks.
-The G3 has a good camera and great third party app.
My parents both have an M8 as per my suggestion. I think they are great phones but I'm not sorry for choosing the G3 for myself, except for those great speakers the M8 has. Those speakers are just awesome!
Overall the build quality is totally different between the two based on materials used but the G3 isn't as bad as a Samsung.

Are you sure that every game runs smoothly on it? I'm asking because there's even a dedicated thread for reducing the lag.

Please be honest, if you were given a second chance, which one would you choose? Can I make the G3 run flawlessly as an HTC One M8 in everything?
I have a Nexus 7 2013 with a custom ROM and while it used to be fast, now it's not satisfactory for me. It's still fast, but I see some occasional stutter and games don't run smoothly. I don't need other slow device.

Yes im sure, i play graphic intensive games such as Colin McRae rally, Dead Trigger 2, Nova 3. No lag, i do use a custom kernel though.

M8 smoother, but I prefer g3.
There's something about it that I really love.

At the moment aosp based roms are on nightlys but stables versions are coming next days.
I miss camera quality and knock code
In all honest though you really need to ask yourself, how future proof are you these days anyway?
Chances are if you buy a new phone, it'll be outdated in a month because there will already be talks of a new model with a better processor and some revolutionary features.
Let's put it this way, I was in your situation a while ago too. I was using a Nexus 5 for a little over a year and just wanted something new. My first 2 choices were the M8 and the OnePlus one, then eventually I factored in the G3. It wasn't even on my radar to begin with!
In the end I chose the G3 because of the QHD screen, removable battery and microSD card support. Sure unibody phones look great, but I just have never liked the idea of the battery being sealed in. What if the battery you get is faulty? You'll need to replace the entire phone. Sure that's an extreme case but it can happen.
Take my post with a grain of salt because I don't value gaming performance, but with lollipop on the G3 it's plenty fast for me. I really don't think you can go wrong with either phone.

What kind on game are you looking to run to see if i can download it and test it out? I don't do much gaming on the phone just cause i have no time to game on it, all i have are some pick up and play games that entertaing for like 5min

I was in a similar situation when I sold my Moto X due to the same issues you mentioned above, though it was primarily due to the hideous AMOLED screen on the MOTO X which had burn-in issues just after 20 days of usage. Even my replacement unit got that in mere 10 days. It was the navbar that was visible under white/grey backgrounds.
I chose G3 over M8 after trying them in Chroma and other retail stores:
1. Much better screen to body ratio. The bezels are extremely slim and the phone looks sexy. Compare that to the M8, its as tall as the G3 but that is to accommodate those boomsound speakers.
2. Though it has to power a higher resolution screen, the latter lasts me 1.5 to 2 days since I consider myself a light user. It'll easily last you a day even with heavy use.
3. Camera is awesome! M8 stands no chance with its ultrapixel cam. The focus is insanely fast due to the laser focus which may seem gimmiky unless you use it and see it for yourself.
4. Though plastic, its pretty well built.
5. Removable battery, personal preference after using the MOTO X.
6. Gorgeous screen and I'm sure you'll see the difference when you use it over 1080p screen.
7. After sales of LG is light years ahead than HTC in our country. People all over India curse HTC for opting a 3rd party vendor for its after sales service. I've had an instance when I had to deal with them and I made sure it was the last. I've used Nexus 4 and 5 and found LG's after sales to be much better and their repair cost is also reasonable.
8. LG has come a long way in dealing with S/W updates and they have bettered HTC and many other OEM's in this area. I'm pretty optimistic that we will receive an update to 6.0 or whatever they name it.
Some points to consider:
1. The lags that you hear/read about were of 4.4.4 days and LG has done a good job with 5.0 making it pretty much lag free.
2. You WILL notice the speed difference between near stock Android of Moto X over custom LG skin but its something that you'll get use to in a matter of days.
3. I've used M8 a couple of times in retail store and its a wee bit faster compared to G3.
4. Though it happens rarely, the LG screen fails to respond to touch inputs. It mostly happens in the lower bottom area and many have reported this. Since 5.0 update, this issue is almost gone and I've come across it only once after the update. No need to worry about it and its certainly not a deal breaker. I've been using the phone since Dec 2014 and have encountered this 4-5 times and only once after the 5.0 update.
5. M8 with its boomsound speakers is clearly a winner when it comes to audio quality but G3's audio aint puny either. It's got decent amount of punch and should be enough for daily usage unless you plan use your phone to watch a lot of videos/movies.
Hope the above helps you in deciding. Every phone has its own compromises/cons and eventually you need to decide which ones you can live with. Cheers! :highfive:
I owned both (M8 for a couple of months and G3 till now) and i can say G3 is clearly the winner out there.Theres a simple reason.
If you have checked the recent GMA (global mobile awards ) in category 5 (best mobile handsets ) there were 2 winners :
Apple iphone 6 + LG G3. I havent seen any samsung or nexus or htc devices . So i am glad that i kept my G3 .
The judges comments :
“Affordable excellence with winning design – its edge-to-edge screen offers the best quality mobile viewing experience around today.”

Do you have some benchmarks of the G4 on your pocket? Atm all that I've seen is ~sd805 performance. ..

No. But during the presentation lg made a point that benchmarks are not the be all and end all and realife use is what counts. So I reckon you're thinking is right.

According to this review as I put together, it would be best to find a g3 leather battery cover and pass on the G4. Lot of reading for the bottom line.
Funny thing is I have looked for sometime now for a leather battery cover for the G3. Haven't been able to find one.
Check out this review from an actual pro Photographer.. I cannot post a link, but google search "Gear Review: A Photographer’s Take on The LG G4" by colby brown
According to this review, best camera on a smartphone....
I cant wait for the photo comparisons with the S6. My contract ends on June 10th and the LG G4 looks to be the one! My first priority on my next smartphone is the picture quality. If lg is better, matches or even comes extremely close, I will buy it. Love the idea of the sd card slot and changeable battery. Though, I would get the s6 128gb version, so it all comes down to the quality of the pics....

Nope. G3 weak SoC makes it lag, but new 64bit 808 chip is energy efficient while ultrafast @ the same time, 2 64 bit cores on par with same 64bit 4cores in HTC M9 in most real life use cases. And way cooler. And 64 bit means it will get more dev support in 2 to 3 years to come as ARM v.7 801 will be dumped fast
Camera of G4 is leaps and bounds better than ol' generation G3 camera, too.
So is Quantum display, let all pray that LG alleviated their mistake about over-sharpening or @ least made it properly
@ software level not only G4 has ultrafast optimized by Qualcomm Android 5.1 kernel but software gimmicks like hardware based Glance View too
And don't believe mailru's spam, they compare any phone to S6 only for pumping S6's sales
---------- Post added at 11:30 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:27 AM ----------
And, ONE MORE THING.
the device @ mailru review is not for sale pre-sale unit, all aspects like display calibration, battery life optimization should change in stock saling units, it's too early to make final decisions basing on pre-sale item's review

I was being sarcastic. Need to read between the lines.
Here are some camera shots, coming from some of the 50 trial testers of the G4 here in Singapore (I'm NOT one of them.) Take note these have been post-edited slightly, but look amazing nonetheless.

exactly my opinion on the G4. Benchmarking is not the end-all and be-all of judging a phone, but it would be priced as high as s6 and i don't see why G4 is going to be preferred.

Take a look at this video...they bench 4 phones. The S6, Sony Z3 (I think), G3 & G4. Funny thing is they started the S6 first and the G4 last, yet the G4 finished 1st. Now the S6 got the highest score, but it seems that something else is going on behind the scenes that the benchmark isn't measuring that allows the G4 to churn through it faster. Maybe better bandwidth.

I would bet money the G4 will be cheaper than the S6, and the options with the G4 are suited for me. Plus I want some leather. Lol
I also agree with your feelings on benchmarks. Most important to me is screen size, battery, sdcard, and camera. This to me are the reason I feel the G4 trumps the S6..
+1
@Sachinfan has been trolling several G4 threads. Don't pay too much attention to him. He wants an S6 anyway. Who cares if it's the same price. The G4 has a bigger screen, a camera that at minimum is the same quality with better features. Expandable memory (for the same money as the S6 with 64 GB you can get the G4 with a leather back and 128 GB card). And it yeah G4 owners won't have to carry around a charger when their phone dies in the afternoon.

I have a S6 Edge and was at the G4 launch so got to use the G4, and I've had the HTC One M9 and about every other phone you care to mention.
All the new flagships are excellent but different and appeal to different people in different ways. Personally I think the S6 Edge is the best until I've spent more time with the G4 to assess it properly. But the S6E is so so expensive that the extra £££s needed for it don't make it good value like the G4, but again that's personal preference.
At the G4 launch I got to test the audio , Bluetooth audio, camera and a bit more. I liked the leather backs and ceramic one in white. I get my G4 unit soon and can't wait to see how well it performs in real life. Despite me owning the S6E, I am not biased. If the G4 is better I will say so, sell my S6E and buy a G4!
I will say the G4 was fabulous to hold in terms of grip and comfort with a leather back!

I know its a G4 thread so sorry for being off topic, but did you get your hands on the regular S6? Is the experience notably less enjoyable than the Edge? You say that your early impressions are that the edge is better than the G4 but is much more expensive. The regular S6 and the G4 will be similarly priced.
So wondering what you think about the regular S6 vs G4 (price being similar)

The regular S6 is ok. I had one 2 weeks prior to getting the Edge. I got the Edge as it looks prettier and more stylish.
The S6 vs G4. Tough one. I really need longer with the G4 to answer that fairly. I had 2 hours hands on with the G4 vs a month with the S6/Edge.
To answer that question really depends on what are your device priorities. Based on my little experience I have the S6 ahead but it's really close and more time with the G4 may change that.
I can't stress how lovely the leather backs look on the G4. But then the glass fronts and backs and edges looks great on the S6.
Tell me what matters eg top 5. I'll rank it now and in a few weeks rank it again.
