You need to the phone. To do that, the battery needs to be for a couple seconds then you can the battery in.

After that answer we can finally close this thread!
I ran into the same issue. I had stock, wanted to try Cm6, had to flash a different boot leaders to get Cm6 to flash properly.
Then I thought id see if I could go back to stock from a nandroid backup I made. Just as you had tried and I found out that I couldn't go back to stock via nandroid because of the same issue I had with going to Cm6 : the boot loader.
I made a nandroid backup up Cm6, booted to Cm6 and ran the 3.29.ruu exe on my desktop and this took me back to complete stock, even unrooted it.
So I rooted again via unrevoked, made a nandroid back up.
For the sake of testing I tried to restore from my nandroid backup of Cm6 and it worked. Then I restored back to stock via my nandroid and it worked.
Basically it came down to loader versions for me and bet that is your issue.
I know I rambled a bit but I think its relevant.

Ok, I've looked and searched and googled for the last few weeks now. I have a mytouch 4g that is on the stock rom w/ ota update. I do have perm root and s-off, per the thread here on xda. However, I can't get it to flash anything at all. Either in the hboot (bootloader) or in clockwork. I tried to flash a the cm7 (had on my hd2 and loved it) in clockwork, says can't open /directory addy with rom, then has this: (bad) installation aborted. I tried to flash a stock image to try and start over, the pd15img, had it named correctly etc. It goes for a sec, then says the .nbh files are missing for 3 different things. Can anyone help or is this phone effed? I can use it just fine, but the stock rom sucks and has stupid drm, which doesn't let me play most of my music. If someone can help and has paypal I WILL make a donation to you, I'm not rich, but am a busy father of 2 divorced with a full time job. PLEASE HELP!!!!
What cwm are you running?

3.0.0.5, I went to older versions of cwm also and still no dice at all. I am at a loss. I am by no means an expert, but have jailbroken iphones forever and did all the work on my hd2, so I'm not a complete noob but I still consider myself to be compared to others.

That's why you can't flash the stock image, which is Froyo based. 3.0.0.5 can only flash Gingerbread ROMs. However, that doesn't explain why CM7 won't boot for you, since 3.0.0.5 should successfully flash that. My suggestion would be to flash CWM 3.0.0.6 (can handle all ROMs) and then try re-flashing CM7 or the stock ROM.
I'll give it a whirl right now....will report back

There's the download for it. I meant to put it in my previous post.
I was pretty sure I tried this a while ago, and I was right, still nothing. It says the same thing, (bad) installation aborted, before all of that it says can't open /filedirectory. Seriously peeved at this phone at this point. It will not flash anything at all.
It could also be a corrupt SD card, or even though you have S-OFF, your phone isn't actually fully rooted (seems unlikely though since CWM is successfully installed). I'm sure someone else will chime in here eventually.
i have a couple spares, i'll check it out real quick. usually my comp will tell me if there is an issue with the sd card, so I'll try another quick like. I have and am using an sdhc patriot that is ok per tmobile, and i have an 8 and 16gb laying around also
edit it was a kingston in there. would that make a difference?

Another non helping condescending comment!!?? Really? Really? Unless this has been fixed and you can point me to the post, I will kindly ask you to eff off and leave this thread. I have not found a fix and still can't put a custom rom on my phone that doesn't have drm. Respectfully, dude just trying to get his phone working the way it should.
Could also be a bad download. Id delete the old redownload whatever rom your wanting. Make sure you do a full wipe of everything and wouldn't hurt to do out a second time.

Was just thinking about that. Is there any difference in doing it right on the phone compared to a pc?
Not that I have noticed. I get the same amount of bad downloads on pc our my phone. Buy when it does happen I just download again and wipe everything again. There is a list here somewhere of everything to wipe, can't remember off the top of my head.

How many bad downloads have you gotten? I always download ROM files with my PC, and then transfer them to the SD via the USB cable. I always verify the MD5 when I can, but most devs don't provide that these days.
I gotten about 11 since I have had this phone. Thinking its something to do with my router. Noticed I drop connection for a second randomly. which can cause file to be corrupt. To lazy to get a new router lol

Glad you got it working! Payment is totally out of the question. The XDA community is sort of a "pay it forward" sorta thing. If I had paid everyone that's helped me with things over the years, I'd be broke!

How do I get it to stop?
I'm running Ice Glacier V1.1.6 and there was a official software update for the MT4G yesterday, I was dumb and told it to update (which would unroot me) and when it started to update it went into ClockworkMod recovery, I tried to reboot it but it will start and then try to update again and bring me back to recovery. I mounted the SD card and looked around but I could not find the update to delete it so it stops trying. anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks guys, Its been doing this all day and I really wanna use my phone
(already looked all around google and here before I made the thread)

Wow you still running iced glacier? There are way better stable roms now a days. Might want to check them out.
Maybe flashing a different rom will stop it from trying to update.
But I'm also curious. Doesn't also give you an option to yes continue with the update or not to continue?

what would you recommend for a new ROM? at the time I rooted it (like 5 months ago) everyone was recommending it as the fastest stable one around, haven't really thought about changing it but would like faster one.
and No, If it had the option this would be so much easier haha, It just starts it it's self, It will say "shutting down" then will say it is loading the new update then halfway threw it says it failed to read the signature and will turn on recovery

If you remember what the original boot screen was you might be able to find it on the web. Install any 2.1 sense rom, then flash the right boot screen, delete super use and I'm willing to bet it'll fool any sales rep so you can upgrade your phone. That's the best solution I can think of.
Hey, i'm on MTS too, why do you need to flash the original ROM? (just curious)
Anywho, maybe someone else here can answer this but.......
i do have a backup of the original 2.1 on my phone. I'm not sure if i can send you that so you have something to put on your phone and restore to?
Those are some good suggestions and I dont know if that would work I think you'd have to ask the development about that

You could do it through Dropbox or something and then he could put it in his recovery's back up folder and then restore the back up through recovery. Or, if you are S-off you could restore through Hboot with a HERCIMG.zip too. Just a couple of ideas that should work.

....When in ROM Manager, click on the first item that says "Flash Clockworkmod Recovery"..that'll get you a recovery, to make a backup, and to flash a new ROM. And to bring it to stock, the stock ROMs are here, just choose 2.2.1 or 2.3.4, then flash in recovery, or rename to PD15IMG.zip and reboot into bootloader, sorry I forgot which one when flashing stock. FLASHING STOCK WILL TAKE AWAY YOUR ROOT! If you want rooted GB, gohere! Good luck!

If you use your Google account to manage your contact, no need to backup them.
