Please, don't be intimidated by any techy lingo, the second paragraph will have a quick rundown for non devs!
Hey all! @YoshiShaPow and I need a little help selecting the toolchain to use for official releases! Currently, we are using a GNUEABI Linaro toolchain optimized for Cortex A15 processors. But, as shown in a recent test (similar to this one) conducted by Chet Kener (@Cl3Kener), GNUEABI toolchains have worse performance and battery life in comparison to their ARM-EABI counterparts. The tree toolchains that I have compiled are Linaro, and (what I refer to as LinaroMod and SaberNaro) 2 hybrid SM and Linaro toolchains.
What does this mean for you?
I have compiled three toolchains to use for the kernel. We need you to help test the kernels to find what is best for the official releases of the kernel. Below are the requirements for the test (Copied from Chet's toolchain war)
1. You must flash both kernels on the SAME ROM and should spend at least a day on each
(but 2 or 3 days would be best if you can, this is not a quick fight this is all out toolchain war!)
2. You must keep track of battery life as best as possible.
Take screenshots of you SOT, Stand by, voice calls, other apps you think are significant. I will be posting a short questionnaire/survey where I expect you to have some details on battery life. I don't need to see all of your screenshots but you are welcome to post them all here in this community for us to all see.
3. Try and to keep track of performance the best you can
Obviously I don't want you to shy away from benchmarks. By all means run as many of them as you like. I also understand that benchmarks don't always give the whole picture on performance so I'm also looking for you to describe any differences you see between these three kernels. Comparison and contrast are the preferred method. (ie. This one opens camera app faster than that one. This one has smoother scrolling than that one. This one has a more fluid UI than that one. etc.)
4. Look for anything else that is measurable that you can test
Test boot times, test app opening times on large apps like Facebook. Look for operations that cause lag on the kernel and try to reproduce the lag doing the same thing on the other etc.
5 Most importantly have fun and keep track of your observations!
If this isn't going to help make your week more enjoyable don't participate. I'm not trying to ruin your week.

Sounds good, I'm in.
Challenge accepted, seems like a lot are going for the SaberNaro builds, so I'll start with that too.
I usually try kernels for 3 days to a week so my results won't be done for about a month and this will possibly be well into other versions lol..

It is lollipop only, and I believe @YoshiShaPow added f2fs back in, but lets wait for his answer.
This would be much easier for users to test if multirom support was added back to the kernel. We could test multiple roms and multiple versions easier. Has this been added back with V 4.0?

Very interesting thread.
I vote for Sabernaro v6.0.0 is the best of all so far.

Hi everybody,
just wanted to let you know that I have successfully booted up CM6.1. Was kinda tricky but hey I promised to do my best. Now bugfixing time!
Please have a look here for more infos:
CyanogenMod6.1
I will post a bootup-video + some screenies later!
Ahh by the way: I would like to say thx to stockwell for pointing me to the right direction with a kernel-related problem.
Great work, can't wait to see what you did so I can see how close (or far!) my attempt was from working.
Edit: I notice you mention that the packages won't be made public. How do I get my hands on them?

I'm happy to test and provide feedback also. Well done.
@stockwell: I'll share it for everyone getting in contact with me! It's not even ready for a public release. It's meant for devs as I hope we will get some steps further with teamwork!
Please follow link on 1st post to grab the Alpha Release!
Could you give some info that what is working right now and what is not?
Verry nice to see that someone is porting
Gratz with the boot!
You were right, this is too much for me lol.
Not working:
Radio (Wifi, GSM, WCDMA, Bluetooth, FM, GPS)
GPU Acceleration (I think, the interface while speedy moves choppy)
Many other things
I will do some more messing around this arvo to find out more but this definately is not for those who need their device to be usable. It did boot fine though.
Yap it's meant for devs but I am working on the fixes
Thanks for your effort!
Is the X5 special in any way or is this many fixes always needed when porting CM?

FYI: Got 3D partially fixed! Will provide a new update (including several fixes) in the next 24hours. It will be available again via link on 1st post. That's all for now
Would you be able to post up how you did what you've done so far on fixing 3D?
Would you please upload the source to github?

Have a look at boot.img. I added kgsl specific perms to init.rc's. This works also with init from Vision (109,6kb) but I reverted back now to B160 init
I'm not developer my self, but is it possible to use kernel or radio drivers from another phone model ie. Desire z to get rid of those problems with randomly dropping 3g connection? I understood that desire is nearly with the same harware.

Perfromance of this rom is very good compared to the stock Huawei. I was able to get over 2500 in Quadrant at 1.5GHz over 300 points higher than the stock rom at 1.5GHz. People should give this rom a go it's working great on mine so far. Only things I notice aren't working are camera, haptic and mobile data. There are a few bugs here and there but nothing major. It's fast and smooth. Screens:

I have a question;
I liked CM7 until the battery drain made it near difficult to use; will using this Talon kernel possibly fix the drain issue? If so, then I'm going to consider switching back.
Can I ask what problems Gingerbread bootloaders cause?

Short answer--No. Long answer, while the kernel can not fix battery life completely, it can do something for it. Your problems won't be completely fixed, but will be somewhat mitigated.

To tell you the truth I'm getting the same battery life I had with Continuum. Some people are still getting drains depending on apps being used and such. There are so many variables to consider that I could tell you. You have to try it out and see how things go. Test different kernel settings in Voltage Control .... and monitor programs used to find what the culprit may be.

It has always been an issue until the latest round of Kernel updates. It mainly effects external SDCARDS but Vivified had a few intermittent issues with seeing the internel SDCard. (He wasn't running this kernel at the time).

How aokp began
What is AOKP?
AOKP stands for Android Open Kang Project. It is a custom ROM distribution for several high-end Android devices. The name is a play on the word kang and AOSP (Android Open Source Project). The name was sort of a joke, but it just stuck, just like our infatuation with unicorns.
We fork the source code of Android that Google puts out in the open with every major version release, and we then add the magical unicorn bytes (read: we add some of the coolest features that are both useful and make your ROM awesome).
With AOKP, you can generally do a lot more with your device than what you could do with the original firmware that came installed on it.
Why AOKP ?[/SIZE]
We were waiting for when you’d ask this.
There are a variety of reasons why a hilly billy Android user, on a bright sunny day, would suddenly start using AOKP and loving it.
For one, AOKP is lightweight. Most OEMs provide a heavy UI layer over Android and have loads of bloatware (i.e. apps that not everyone use every day, but you cannot remove because they’re “baked in” by default). Since AOKP is built upon vanilla Android source, it has neither of the above.
Also AOKP has features that you will not find on your stock firmware. You can have a multitude of toggles to quickly flip a lot of your phone’s settings right at your fingertips, or you can launch apps quickly from any screen using our Ribbons.
You can change almost each and every aspect of the OS, from its looks to the way it functions, with total freedom. And did we tell you, AOKP helps you make tacos?
AOKP Release Versioning
We have two different kinds of builds/releases - Nightlies, and Milestones.
Nightlies: every 3 days, of the latest code committed (may contain goops of bugs).
Milestones: Most stable builds, usually released once a month
Downloads:
Well were slowly moving everything over to my mediafire folder so just hold your horses
History
AOKP started in November 2011.
We’ve been going strong ever since.

Hello everyone, after a great success on building roms for bacon device. I've decided to share my work with other devices. So now I share with oneplus 3. After positive feedback on the rom today I'll publish here the rom.
Kernel and Device tree are untouched so everything should be working smoothly. You can use a custom kernel in case you like, but i'll only give support to stock kernel as I do not yet own an device. So CM bugs are basically also our bugs, and from what I know there is none. Still I'm open to suggestions.

Nice work! Keep it up.
May I ask you to build PE+, please? Coz no notification volume slider is a really mess in PE vanilla.
Anyway, what about the official maintaining? As i know you are a beginner. are there any chances that you will be accepted?
