I've updated the one from this post to work on the N5 and L.

Flashable zip file in the dropbox link below.
Attached file on XDA server is not a flashable zip and will have to be installed manually with the instructions below:
1) Download the file
2) Rename it to bootanimation.zip
3) Copy it to your phone
4) Using a file explorer such as Root Explorer, Go to /system/media and copy your stock bootanimation to a safe place
5) Now copy this file to system/media
6) Reboot
Once the animation has done 5 complete loops (although your device will probably have booted by then) it will loop between War Machine and Batman until the boot has finished. If people want more complete loops than that just let me know (it's only 5 because this was a test).
Remember this is not my work, I just repacked it. Enjoy!

I feel the same way! I had to learn how to get it to work on L on my Nexus 4, the change for the N5 is small and it deserved a share
I just noticed that this is not 1080p.. And due to that, the clarity is getting distorted on Nexus 5.. I wonder if it can be converted to 1080p

You can try this one, but at 41mb it's a lot larger, I tested it and it's HUGE on my N4 screen

did you copy over the old file? I found that if you don't delete (or rename) the old bootanimation.zip file and just copy over it, if fails and you just get 'android' on the screen.

No. I renamed it. Moved it over to a new folder but it just shows android..
You can't rename it. It has to be called bootanimation.zip

The file permissions must match. Basically if the file doesn't have the correct permissions it will not work. You can use just about any file explorer to change them.
Don't mind the bootanimation-1.zip file name. I'm not replacing anything, just showing you how to fix it.
Here's what the permissions should be set to;

-rw-r--r-- or 644. See the difference?
Now when you move a file from your downloads to the system folder, the permissions will likely look like this;
Just use any file explorer. Generally, long pressing the bootanimation file and selecting "properties" or "permissions" will allow you to edit them. Just make sure they look like this;
Then your bootanimation will work.

Thanks for the explanation about permissions. But this didnt work either. This time even android didnt come up. Only google. Tried 744 as well, but with no luck
PS while you are explaining things, can you tell me how to add pictures in reply rather than as attachments and how to let the person know that you have replied to him without actually quoting his whole message?

is there a tutorial to making bootanimations like this?
Thanks
Well it's mostly just animating. Corel Animation Shop is an easy to use application that let's you make animations. It has some build in effects so you just need one picture or text and you can add effects to it like fade, wave, shine or zoom. You can easily create an animation like in the firt post with it. But if you want to make more complex animations you will have to draw them image by image, so I'd suggest you to find a better application for that. Using more complex software requires lot of skill and effort.
After you have created your animation you can upload the .gif file here and it will send you a zip file that has all the images separated. Then you just find a bootanimation.zip (ex. from this thread) and replace the images inside it with your own images and rename them correctly: 0.png, 1.png, 2.png... Or if your animation has more than 10 pictures: 00.png, 01.png, 02.png... You also want to make the images the sime size as your screen (800x480) unless your animation has plain white background.
Then you create a folder called "data" and inside it create a folder called "local". Inside the folder "local" you put the bootanimation.zip. Now compress the "data" folder with winrar and set the compression method to "store" as shown above. Now the zip file need to be signed with an easy to use "Sign ROM" tool. You can google for it or pm me to sign it. After that the bootanimation is ready to be flashed.
You might also be able to use RootExplorer to locate the folder /data/local/ and replace the bootanimation.zip with your own one. You might also want to delete or replace the android_audio.mp3 inside the same folder because it's the bootsound file.

thanks for the info.. Yeah I've been working on some simple boot animations:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9964748#post9964748
but I just didn't know how you guys ripped the animated gif's apart. That's cool. I have adobe Master Collection4, wouldn't fireworks do this good? I'm not very familiar with all of it, it's been a long time since I made an animated gif.. And big thanks for the link to send me the zip files!!!

not sure about how to use adb to do this, but Root explorer is what I use.. It's one of the most used apps I've purchased..
My bootanimations are stored at:
system/media/ (place bootanimation.zip here)
Thanks I forgot that command it is equivalent to dir /s bootanimation.zip DOS.
Root explorer is pretty straight forward but can be confusing for some people who have never used it before. I have made this list based on the most commonly questions I have read about how to use Rood Explorer. I hope this answers your questions but if it doesn't, post the question and I'm sure I or someone will help you out.
When it won't let you manipulate a file ("this file system is read only") just touch the white button on the top that says "mount r/w"
When you long press files and folders for the sub menu, you can
Extract all
Delete
Rename
Copy
Move
Change Permissions
Properties
Add Bookmark
Send
View as text
Open in text editor
Zip a file
Create Tar
Change owner
You can also press menu for
New folder
Preferences
Bookmarks
Search
Muli-select
more gives you
Home
Refresh
New file
About
Exit
This program pretty much explains itself so just give it a little time and mess with it for a bit.

You will need the .apk file for the app you want to install. Put it on your sd card. Then Just copy the .apk file in the system/app folder. you will need to hit the R/W button up top in order to copy/ paste it there. After that it will show up in your app drawer.

This reply is actually incomplete.
Those are the first steps necessary, but the most important step is, once the file has been successfully copied, to long-press on the file (or press "Menu" while the file is highlighted), and choose "Permissions". A series of checkboxes will appear. The Permissions will need to be set to match the other files in /system/app, which will be rw-r--r--. That is, all of the first column boxes should be checked, and the top checkbox in the second column. Any other checkboxes should be unchecked. Once that's done, press "OK", and it will confirm the permissions have changed. The Permissions on the file you copied over should now match the other files in the folder. THEN, after you reboot, the app should appear in your app drawer .

We usually use:
Code:
run_program("system/xbin/busybox" "mount" "/system")
for mounting /system .
And:
Code:
run_program("system/xbin/busybox" "unmount" "/system")
for unmounting /system .
This is also applied to /cache , /data , /sdcard and /sd-ext too !

Hi folks,
This was a very long and arduous process, but it's finally done. It's not a 100% complete theme in regard to the original Honeycomb update, but there are some really nice elements added to make this look like Honeycomb at first glance, but with the performance of Jelly Bean, which is what I was after.
The .zip includes everything you need, including hex color codes to get everything exactly as you see in the pictures. Be careful when applying these modded files, and make sure the files have the proper permissions, including the font. (As soon as you change framework, the tablet is going to reboot, so be exact in your changes.) Otherwise, you'll have to reinstall the ROM. But if you screw up, you can just do a dirty flash, making the process much faster than installing from scratch.
Easy instux: How I did this is, I would create a brand new folder in system/app (for SystemUI.apk) called "temp" or whatever, drop the file, change the permissions, then cut and paste from there, overwriting the original.
Files list:
-Framework-res.apk
-SystemUI.apk
-Original Roboto-Regular.ttf w/ modified Honeycomb numbers edited and merged
-Hex color codes for nav buttons and clock
What has been modified:
-Clock font in the status bar
-Nav buttons
-"Grape Splash" back image for Settings
-Battery and Wi-Fi icons
THIS THEME WAS MADE FOR TEGRAOWNERS JELLY BEAN V20 ROM, BUT SHOULD WORK ON THE CM10, 4.1.2 UPDATE.

why you dont make a theme for theme chooser ?
amazing work
Envoyé depuis mon skz_tenderloin avec Tapatalk
Thanks very much! I don't know how to make a theme for theme chooser (.apk), and I don't know how to make a flashable .zip!

I would totally try this on my galaxy tab 10.1 if it were possible
Well, you could use the nav buttons on the bottom left. That part is theme chooser. And the font isn't that difficult to change, either.

How do I apply the files?
---------- Post added at 10:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:50 PM ----------
Well I guess I tried to apply the files. SystemUI force closed. And once I replace framework-res, went into a bootloop.
you should read my instructions in the op.
copy and paste the font to:
system/font
copy and paste systemui.apk to:
system/app
copy and paste framework-res.apk to:
system/framework
before you over write the files, you want to make sure you go into the properties of each file and make sure they are all rw-r-r- so that the system can access and utilize those files. I would recommend creating a "temp" folder in each directory, so:
system/app/temp/systemui.apk and change the properties in there. then you cut from there, and paste back into system/app with the properties changed correctly. do the framework LAST because the system will automatically reboot after you change that file.
it did not work for you because you applied and over wrote the files without having the correct permissions.

I actually did everything like you just said. Everything.
I'll wait for my tablet to charge and try once again for confirmation.
wow, good luck. I wish I knew how to make this work entirely thru theme chooser, or I wish I could make a .zip...

Retried and didn't work. Oh well.
wow, that sucks. that might mean it will only work on the TegraOwners ROM, although that doesn't entirely make sense. sorry, man. :/

Yea I was gonna say that others on this device's board should try this one. I have a foreign device lol. Thanks though. It looks good.
thanks! one more question: did you use es file explorer? because you shouldn't use solid explorer, etc, b/c the permissions don't stick properly. I totally forgot that, reformatted my tablet just now, and used solid explorer and it messed everything up and I had to start again. I used es file explorer and everything is fine.

Yeah that's my preferred file explorer.
No matter if I replace it manually or using AssassinLament's script, the original android settings apk (settings.apk from priv-app/settings in the rom) always immediately crashes and closes. Joyings version of settings.apk works fine. Permissions set to 0644. Any ideas?
Searched for a solution in the roll up/ Update 6 threads, sorry If I missed it in there somewhere.

I had the same issue till I corrected the directory structure. The Settings.apk goes in the system/priv-app/Settings/ folder, but the Settings.odex file goes under system/priv-app/Settings/oat/x86/. All files 644 and all directories 755.

The most important part of this answer is that you NOT leave the original /system/priv-app/Settings/oat/x86/Settings.odex
The odex file is the pre-processed file of the classes.dex file of the original Settings.apk. If you leave the "old" odex file in place the Dalvik JVM goes haywire as the apk is not correct.
If you only want to copy the Settings.apk file, you have to remove the odex file in that case. The Dalvik JVM will create a new one in the Dalvik cache (the "optimizing" x application(s) message).
So, yes. It is better to simply copy the entire Settings folder including the oat data.
I only add this to give some more insight why it is going wrong if you only copy the new apk in without removing/replacing the oat content as well.

I wish I could get this working but even deleting the entire Settings folder and replacing it with the one extracted from the Joying zip and setting all folders to 755 and files to 644, settings stills crashes on open
I even tried replacing the folder back with the old one to see if it still worked and it does with the old settings??
I even tried the script from this post: (although this is just a bat file of what I was doing manually anyway)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72107737&postcount=109
Still crashes on open :'(
I keep getting this error when trying to update. I did the file it suggested if an error occurred that worked then tried to go back and install the upgrade file and I get this error. Any help?

Can you please share the Download links for my Joying 6.0.1 Sofia unit?
I have a ODBII device which I am unable to pair so I want to try the Bluetooth stock settings from Android.

Put it on a USB stick instead of your SD-card.

And what do you mean with Bluetooth stock settings? If you mean a "set to factory defaults" you can do that from the Settings apk.
If you mean the standard Android Settings app, then be more specific.

I meant the "Settings > Bluetooth" portion of any Android default settings menu which I do not have within my Joying Sofia 8" 6.0.1 unit's settings menu.
However I tried to replace both files today and settings.apk doesn't even start after a reboot. I discovered there is no "/system/priv-app/Settings/oat/x86/Settings.odex" file/folder but "/system/framework/oat/x86/Settings.odex" on my device!?
I changed permissions of both files to 644 of course.

In that case: try my apk.
It needs a rooted unit. If you don't have that: try the script.
And yes: Joyings crippled version doesn't need an odex. The original Android AOSP version does.
Ahhh... I have rooted my device yesterday and installed your toolset but didn't check all options yet... Will try tomorrow as just the upgraded version 1.6 installed late night...thanks mate!
