Speaker under utilized!!!! - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 General

I was looking at the holes on my case and enlarging some that were not in proper position when I noticed that the actual speaker under the backplate on the note 4 is about 4 times as big as the hole in the backplate. I took my dremel and enlarged the size of the hole on backplate to match the entire size of speaker and WOW, phone is very loud now. Also enlarged hole on case and now have max volume possible.
Odd that they covered up so much of the speaker with the backplate.

You're right! There's definitely a big portion of the speaker that's covered up.
I can perceive a slight difference with the cover, but I'm not sure if it's enough
for me to to put the work in to enlarge and risk issues with selling it later.

Here is a pic.

Damn your poor phone. I think drilling multiple holes would not only be affective but it would also look nice.

Exactly with a 1/16 bit

Mine is always in a case and nobody ever sees the back. I will just get another back if I ever sell it. My phones usually get handed down to family lol.

I kind of want someone to make a custom back for this, and sell them on ebay. would be cool, maybe even make "custom" cases that can be used with the custom backs

Dang.. looks like you went overboard bro lol. You even went outside of the area where the grille lies. But nonetheless. Great idea..just needs implementation refinement. BUT, thats why we are here!!!

Let's give the guy some credit for recognizing this and proposing a solution.:good:
Maybe the execution was a bit of a hack job. but still. good effort

@golfinglenn you're so right and thank you for pointing it out! WHY would they cover up the majority of the speaker???? It makes no sense whatsoever!

The more exposed the greater the chance of liquid damage.

I popped the back plate on and off while playing a video. Personally, I feel the sound is a bit clearer, but only just a hair louder. I don't use the speakers enough to justify making a huge hole in the back though.

Try some ringtones with back on and off. That's where I noticed that big difference.

Black coating is peeling off

The black/metalish coating down at the stylus is starting to come of on my trinity after just about two weeks!!!... Anyone else here who have noticed the same?

<- Can someone tell me how this picture came in this post?!!??
[I put it there. V]
Same here!
I have the same problem!
Very annoying considering how much the device is - this is the only negative that I have about it.
This is where a silicone case would come in useful. None presently exist for the Trinity, but then it is only a matter of time.
can someone post a picture of the problem. i am also thinking about getting a dopod d810 soon in the new year and I would like to see how serious the problem is....
yep a photo of the problem would be great.
Have you tried getting the phone replaced?
I've sent the phone in for a service to see what they have to say. But HTC will most likely deny that this is their problem... *argh*
I will post a picture when I come home.
Sound as the same problem with the Wizard after a few weeks you can peel of the coating on the side also (think wet hands).
Check out the attached files...
BTW: mine started to peel off on the front too... This is crap! *argh*
Did you drop it or was this from normal use? I'm a bit worried now...
Can a black sharpie or something make it look better? I'm interested to hear what HTC says!
humm, mine is still perfect after 2 weeks
No dropping or anything. I've used it with care, even though I'm a bit "fast" when I take out the stylus, but I mean a unit like this should be built for that kind of use. (and I don't have any long sharp nails either which might actually be a killer for the paint.... )
btw: what is a sharpie? Some kind of "make-up" stick?
HTC should offer to replace the phone.
I would be pretty alarmed if they didn't.
Sorry, Sharpie is a permanent marker
Google it
hi guys,
that looks pretty bad. it can only get worse if its peeling like that. get a replacement. it seems the gloss coat isnt bonded properly to the case
Peeling off here too....
Well I have this problem too, but its merely visible. The interesting thing is: It looks like there is shining metal under the coating. Can anybody confirm this? I wouldnt mind to have the bottom piece looking like blank metal.
I think there is a dark, semi-shining metal below the coating.
Still waiting for a reply from the service center.
OMG they seems to painted the bottom part of white Trinity case over with black paint on top.. semi-shining metal coating you guys seeing is what bottom part of white Trinity looks like in fact.
Just took a look at the white trinity now.. And you know what SecureGSM? You might be right... Or maybe it's just a coincidence...?

Noob question about the camera

Alright, I'm brand new here so go easy on me
I just got my Wizard used about two days ago. It's in good shape, except the camera is very very scratched (the plastic in front of the lens)
When I go to take a picture, it looks very blurry and fuzzy, even up close.
Is there any way I can remove or replace the plastic camera cover for a low cost?
see if the lens cover from your old phone works. also I believe it is glass.
also type in "speckle fix" in the search forum box. it works for some roms that does not already have that built in.
thanks for the reply
Is there a way for me to pop the camera cover off and replace it?
It looks like someone took a nail file to it
Here is a test picture I took with my Wizard. It's just a picture of my TV (obviously)

Is it supposed to look this bad?
I'm sorry for bumping my topic over and over
I took off the back plastic camera lens and tried it
The quality is much improved than before. Is it safe to leave the clear lens cover off? If not, am I able to replace it?
i guess you can leave the cover off but i'd think you'd wanna cover it with a piece of tape or something when not in use so lint and stuff can't get in the hole
WOW what a difference. try finding another phone with a similar lens cover (there are plenty old phones in a trift store. if anything, I plan to use a motorola V3 and cut it the size that it needs to be and use E-6000 to glue it back in place.
Now that I have a faceplate that keeps the lens from getting rubbed out it might be worth it
I hope someone finds this useful.
I have just restored the lens of my HTC Wizard to a nearly new state using this method:
I took a cotton bud and secured it in the chuck of a cordless drill. Applied a little T-Cut (car scratch remover) to the lens and spent about 15-20 minutes whizzing the cotton bud round over the lens in different directions. I then wiped off the excess T-Cut and did the same thing with toothpaste, (the white stuff, not blue gel) which is an even gentler abrasive. Again I wiped this off afterwards. Finally I finished off with a clean, dry cotton bud.
I think the important thing is to go in as many different directions as possible across the lens. I had a hunch this might work as the same combination of T-Cut/toothpaste works well on CDs that skip but I was amazed at the clarity of the photos I can now take. Beforehand they really were as bad as the first photo.
Of course this doesn't alter the fact that HTC put the lens cover in a stupid place but I will try to keep my phone in a pocket on its own and not with tools or on the dashboard of my van.
Like I said, I hope this helps someone.

Did I just wreck my new S7?

I just got my S7, and by mistake I pushed in the bottom mic hole with the sim tray tool Samsung gives you. I definitely felt something move. It actually felt like I ejected the tray. Nothing snapped, just moved.
The mic still works because I shot some video and covered the top mic and it still recorded audio. I covered the bottom one too and the audio play back sounds the same for each mic.
However, did I destroy part of the seal for the waterproofing? Did I really break anything?
Has anyone else done this?
I would say it may not be waterproof now. But if the microphone still works, I think you got lucky and avoided damaging anything!
There's a way to check the water resistance without having to out phone in water, I don't remember so search it
From what Im aware the mic is on the bottom of phone and the noise reduction is on the top.

Download cpu_z and check the pressure sensor. If the numbers increase when you press on the back and front of your phone (squeeze it) it should theoretically be waterproof, as air can't escape it.
The mics are covered with a thin mesh, you most likely punctured it.

That makes sense. That's kind of what it felt like. Do you think it damaged the water resistance protection at all?

Yes, it's that mesh (Gore-Tex, or a similar product), that lets air pass but not water.
And that's why the pressure test mentioned above isn't valid. The phone isn't completely sealed. Air can pass through the Gore-Tex membrane.
f.ck, same happened to me, pushed the sim tool in the mic hole and felt something "pushing" inside ;(

just return to Samsung and tell them no one can hear you when you talk.. LOLOLOL
should be still under warranty
here is the video of someone taking apart S7 (not S7 edge, but the interior should be about the same) and explains how the phone is waterproof
not sure if it helps, but here you go

Replacement rear panel

Oops.
A one foot fall from my nightstand to the wooden side panel of my bed has caused the back glass on my S7 to look like a kaleidoscope. And the worst part is that I have a case that would have protected it but didn't have it on.
Ebay appears to have some replacement rear panels. (I like the silver better than the one with which it came.) However there isn't one specific to SM-G930V. I assume any that say G930 are ok? There are versions for AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and international versions.
Any thoughts on whether this international version or this international version will work?
It should work (95% certain) as they all are the same size/shape. You will lose the verizon stamp though (might consider that a plus lol).

I think the only difference would be the carrier logo on the back, otherwise if it's just the rear cover you should be fine. I personally would just put a layer of thin, clear epoxy over the cracked back and give it a unique look while still being smooth.

I've order one and will try to remember to post back after it is on.
Cadcamaro, if it wasn't for the gear vr I would put the phone on a case and not take it out. Would you still epoxy with cracks this long?

That's a nasty crack, I'd still try it though.
I decided to go for the epoxy first. That way the backing of the phone would stay together and I would just get the glass to stay in place. The goal was not to make this pretty, but to get it all to stay intact and as water resistant as possible.
First I used tape to cover the sides and camera. In retrospect I wish I had put a suction up on the screen to make it easier to hold. If anyone else tries this, also make sure you have a screen protector on as a backup.
Here's what it looked like with the epoxy. I removed the tape before it set.

What is this connector for .. ? And where to find a replacement .. ?
My new lcd+Frame hasn't come with a pre-installed one, so I have damaged it while I was trying to move it from the old frame to the new one.
This is weird! Why isn't there anybody knows about this thing ?
Well, I just had a screen arrive today and noticed the same part missing. Not sure what it's for yet. Previous new screens did not have this part missing! Thankfully I have 2 old cracked screens and they have the part so I just need to swap it over to the new one.
Maybe email the supplier of your screen and ask them, they might know.
---------- Post added at 12:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:06 AM ----------
Well yes this is a bit of a problem. I tried to take it off one of my old screens but it broke very easily in the process. I've got one left. It's a flex cable, it's not stiff, it's soft and it will tear like a piece of thin plastic. Second screen in a row I've ordered with problems.
It seems that it hasn't been made to be swapped.
My replacement digitizer had the part already there. It is labled VZW 9C in the photo of my broken digitizer. None of the parts stores that I looked at have the part (by picture ID). The video that was most helpful to me in screen replacement was
and the part is removed beginning at the 6:58 time marker. The guy in the video at first thinks it's a grounding point and later says maybe a blue tooth antenna. The gold showing in your photo is only a small piece of the whole part, which wraps around the top of the frame and extends to the mid-point of the top of the phone. Sorry, I can't find out any positive facts about it.
I have the US996usa (non-Sprint) V20 and I believe it is physically identical to the Verizon VS995. I am on the Verizon network. Since the part bears a VZW 9C label, if you are not on Vz you may not even miss it? Is there a function which no longer works?

After the LCD has been replaced, I haven't tried any SIM yet. Rather than that, nothing was encountered.
