I notice some newer custom 4.4.2 Note 3 ROMS have the Note 4 S-Pen features, like Smart Select. Is there any way of getting this working on a current 4.4.2 ROM? I'm happy with my current stock rom which is rooted and has an S5 theme applied via Xposed. Also, my Knox is at 0x0 and I would like to keep it that way so installing another ROM with Note 4 features doesn't appeal that much unless it involves Mobile Odin Pro to keep my Knox intact.
I'm thinking something along the lines of a service APK replacement in /system/app or /system/priv-app?
Cheers if anyone has an answer for this,
You can't. Samsung didn't want to release 4.4.4 on our phone, and note 4 apk work only on 4.4.4 (I have tried) . So we must wait lollipop for note 4 functions, and we will have also the same UI.

Strange, how come features like Smart Select are confirmed as working on v6 of that ROM?

I will give 4.4.4 to note 3 (I'm working on it)

They are apparently, or for the most part anyway. Smart select definitely works which means it and the other features aren't reliant on 4.4.4 libraries.
I'm trying to find out what files need to be copied/replaced to get this working on my rooted stock 4.4.2 rom but so far it's like trying to get blood out of a stone. I have PMd g00h the rom author but no reply as of yet.
Anyone else have any idea?
I'm porting android 4.4.4.
I think is much easier than find app working on 4.4.2
More than likely. But I don't want to trip my knox flag, and there is no way to avoid doing that if I were to install a non-official 4.4.4 port. I'd much prefer just to modify the rom I currently run to include the new S-Pen features, and if there are other 4.4.2 roms that have these features, it must be possible to do.
Hi Pagnell how do you get the s5 complete theme via xposed? I'm also Knox 0x0, Thx.

OK, heres the situation, I recently got an S4 phone here in Europe UNLOCKED.
I want to know how to install the Stock version of Android 4.3 on this phone (cureent version is 4.2.2).
* Do I have to ROOT the phone?
* Do I have to install or flash ROMs or install custom ROMs?
* My carrier is T-Mobile.
If its too too complicated or running the risk of "bricking" my phone to do this, then I would just pass and stick with the default Samsung's Android version.
Is there any detailed step-by-step guides to this?
One more VERY VERY important question. I also run Samsung KNOX for security. If I would have the Stock Google version of Android on this, will the Samsung KNOX feature be wiped out???

1. Yes, Root, download GooManager from playstore install a Custom Recovery.
2. Install the rom from the zip file via the custom recovery
3. Yes there are plenty of guides, check out youtube videos. Just search for install 4.3 Samsung S4....
4. Yes you risk bricking your device, there is always an element of RISK.
5. Samsung KNOX will not be there.

Ok, forget it. My day to day work environment MUST require the use of the KNOX feature. It is a requirement and must have it.
But thanks anyway for the help.
There is no need to root. Just flash custom recovery via Odin and follow the next steps above.

KNOX feature is Touchwiz framework... Since your workplace force you have KNOX enabled, you cannot flash 4.3 (there is no 4.3 TW ROM) nor keep root permission (KNOX). Id rather stick with stock if I were you.

Its OK if I still have the 4.2.2 version of Android. But, I would like steps on how to install the Google Stock Android version KEEPING version 4.2.2. It does not have to be 4.3 at this point.
If its very complicated, then I will buy the S4 Google Play edition in the future.
The play edition will still not have Knox

No. Touchwiz version out next month. Google edition had touchwiz frame work also mind you so isn't truly stock. The two devices are completely different and the Google edition rom will not be available for this phone. Outside of custom rom that is.

Hi all,
I'm looking forward to the new kitkat version of Touchwiz, but I'm worried about knox warranty. If I were to flash a 4.4 ROM (and more specifically, a Touchwiz one), will this set off the flag? I currently do not have the Knox warranty as I got the s4 when it first came out but I'm worried if i download later versions of Touchwiz I'll somehow get the Knox security along with it and set it off.
If anyone could please clarify this it would be greatly appreciated

Ok so I got my galaxy when it was on 4.2.2, but I currently have Cynagenmod 11 (meaning I have 4.4.2 atm). I checked download mode and I have no knox bootloader, so does this mean im safe to download any 4.3/4.4 custom ROM as long as it doesnt state that it will create a knox bootloader?
For example, what if I were to download omega (the kitkat version) or a kitkat version of samsung's Touchwiz?

Hi,
I recently got a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 as a birthday gift and I was using an iPhone 5 before this.
I have a few questions which I would like to ask as a complete noob on Samsung and Android...
1) I wanted to know about rooting....if I root my Note 3, I read that the warranty becomes void but is there any way to root it without losing warranty?
2) I am currently running Android 4.3 Jellybean, is there anyway to update it to Kitkat as until now my country did not get the kitkat update? I am currently living in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
3) Will there be an S5 Camera app for the note 3 as I hate the default camera app on my note 3 and would like to get a better default camera app?
Thanks

1. On 4.3 it is possible to root without tripping knox. On 4.4.2 it isn't.
Edit- Here searched a little for you and found a way to upgrade to 4.4.2 with root and not trip knox binary counter.. Knew it was there but didn't know how since I rooted and tripped knox 5 mins after getting the phone...

1) You can root without tripping Knox ( loose warranty ) provided that the last 3 digit of your phone's firmware is MJ3 or below ( few people though post that MJ4 can be rooted using Kingoapp without tripping Knox but can't be sure about that ).
2) It can be updated to Kitkat using non-carrier specific firmware
3) Check the Themes And Apps section for an S5 camera.

Hey Khizar,
Thanks mate for helping me out. I want to first upgrade my device to 4.4.2 and then root it to install the Samsung Galaxy S5 Camera App along with some other phone camera app (if possible)...don't care about warranty that much but it would be nice if it was possible to still keep the warranty if needed in the future and install these apps....
Anyways I was reading the thread from your signature and something about Bootloader being locked was mentioned if updated from JB to KK...what does that mean?
I have more questions as I am such a big noob as this is my first time using an Android Phone but first I want to upgrade it to Kitkat

However in my phone's download page my system status remain as "official" instead of "custom". Is my device rooted properly? or Is this normal?
1) How to install custom recovery compatible with my device?
2) Currently my Knox remain as 0x0, will the process of installing a custom ROM trip Knox by any chance?
3) Are launchers only compatible with stock ROMs and not custom ROMs?
4) Currently what are the top Stock & Custom ROMs compatible with my device? (If I'm focusing more on games, performance, batt life and very low usage of S pen).
Thanks in advance!

Search before you ask for help. All these have been answered many times in this very forum.
Official or custom system status has nothing to do with rooting.
Find custom recovery from development section and flash it with Odin.
Custom ROM does not trip KNOX, but flashing custom recovery and/or kernel will.
What launchers you have in mind? Stock TouchWiz ones might only work on stock(-based) ROMs. Third-party launchers should work on all ROMs, though exceptions can occur.
There is no best ROM. Try different ROMs ones, see yourself what is best. A ROM may be best for one, worst for other.
Also - If you don't care about the journey of Android ROMs, you are not supposed to be here.

Hi,
Thanks for your clarification, still a bit confused though, and I don't understand you by "If you don't care about the journey of Android ROMs, you are not supposed to be here". Please don't feel offended as I'm new & total noob to the root & the ROM "world". FYI, I did search & read up the internet for information but I don't understand most of it. Thus I'm seeking help here.
1) In order to install & flash any Custom ROM, one must have custom recovery for back up first right? Since by flashing a custom recovery will trip Knox, then why do so many people (including me) trying so hard to find a way to root our devices without tripping Knox in the first place?
2) Does custom ROMs & kernels comes separately and not together? For example, I can install custom rom A and flashing kernel B from custom rom B or other sources?
3) Are there ways to customize or modify my device e.g Changing boot up animation, overclocking the processor, changing batt logo etc... while rooted and running on original ROM?
Hey everyone,
I'm new here but have a decent knowledge base on what i'm looking for. I recently acquired a Galaxy S5 (ATT). Model is : G900A. It's on Android 4.4.4. I'm having a tough time tracking down specific information for this device. What i'm looking for:
1. A root option aside form Towelroot, as it doesn't support my device and I can't seem to find another that would support the ATT version.
2. Does this root option trip knox?
3. Which Recovery software would be best suited for this device if any at all?
Any help would be appreciated. I'm hoping the information i've found is outdated and i'm just missing something but any additional info would be helpful or at least give me better insight to the position S5 rooting is at. Thanks!
Is there anyone with this knowledge?
Check the att galaxy s5 general section there are threads about this. Quick summary for you though, the only option is towelroot but you need to downgrade, towelroot does not trip knox, the only recovery availanle is safestrap and you can only flash tw based roms so no aosp or aokp or CM.

Thank you so much for the rundown. I've looked further into it and had a couple more questions that can hopefully be answered for my clarity.
1. I downloaded 4.4.2 from sammobile, i'm assuming it's stock and won't trip knox.
2. Is there a certain version of Odin I should use as to again, not trip knox.
3. Once I root on 4.4.2, is there a vanilla version of a ROM w/ TW that I can install to retain most functionality that i've gotten used to?

Use the downloads from the thread, not sammobile. You cannot trio knox as far as i know on the att model. Ya tbere are a few roms, theyre all touchwiz based due to the fact that its the only roms you can flash since the bootloader is locked, just check the att s5 android development section and pick your favorite.

What I meant was finding a legit stock ROM. I can't seem to locate any here on this site unless i'm really making a fool of myself. I'm trying to downgrade my phone to 4.4.2 and towelroot it. Then find a good rom for 4.4.4. I have no problem installing a TW ROM. There's just so much information and so many ROM's it's difficult to narrow down a process for my specific resolution. I do appreciate the patience so far and thanks again for more info! Also, do you know which verison of Odin I should grab?
bump up.
You'd better ask in the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5 forum for more support.
