[Q] System Settings / Messages - Is there a Dark Theme? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This blue/white crap has got to go! Did they add an alternate theme somewhere, or am I stuck with this until someone comes up with a dark mod?

I would love to change to a dark theme as well..even the dialer looks cartoony crap....

The Darkest you can go is with a dark background.

Sorry, by "messages", I mean the android-level messages that you get as popups to select an app to open content with.
Though, the default messaging app is hideous too.

Think you will have to edit framework res.apk to make it dark but it should be doable. Just have to wait for people to start releasing custom roms

Texting

Is there any way to edit or customize the background or anything with the texting. It might be just me, but I find the default white screen dull--it would be nice to change it up a bit with some colors or something.
you can download apps such as GO SMS, Handcent SMS, chompSMS, etc
Yes there is a way. From Messaging, Menu key>Settings. Scroll towards the bottom (Extra settings). There you will see Black Background. Check the box to enable and you are good to go.

Sense 3.0 lock for AOSP roms! Agile Lock

Finally! someone created and lockscreen replacement that mimics sense 3.0 !
You don't get the nice animated wallpaper but the ring and icons are there.
I downloaded the free version.
In the free version you can download some other apps to gain points. Install those apps, get 300 points to unlock the paid version. Then just uninstall the extra apps.
I'm using it on CM7 and no problems so far.

Works great on oxygen.
Thanks
Cool, thanks
Nice lockscreen - better than the stock android IMO.
80 cents worth it.
just modded a lil bit, remove the background...

my default font is helvetica, that's the reason...
but there is a option for changing the font, you have to download some apps to collect 300 points and than you get the full version.
here is another one, just take the original background from the htc sense 3.0 lockscreen...
edit: to change the files in the .apk you have to change "properties" and set "open with" default to winrar.
I'm loveing this lockscreen, works very well but i find it anoying that it rotates... is there anyway from it doing so (without locking orientation on all the other apps obviously!!!)
Thanks a lot and great app!!!!
i think in the .xmls files but i can't handle that...
when i try to use the green messaging symbol i get an fc =(
any solutions?

but still cool non the less!!! great work!
Can you get access to change the lockring itself? I am thinking of making a mario theme for my phone, and I found a lockring which uses the one up mushroom and I love it. Would love to be able to use it, with this app on an aosp rom.
give me the pics and i see what i can do
EDIT: AGILE LOCK HAS BEEN UPDATED, ROTATING BUG BEEN SOLVED.
Is it possible to remove the shortcut icons?
how do you remove the orginal lock screen/slider screen? it still shows up before showing the agile lockscreen

On what ROM do you have this issue?

Handcent SMS not sending MMS

Just got the Note 3 thru T-Mobile..had it for about 9 days. Cant send/recieve pics, even to myself.
Switched to the stock SMS/MMS app and it works fine. Anyone else experienced this? I kinda like Handcent because I can have a LED light notify me of a unread SMS/MMS..stock app only gives me a sound.
Handcent sms just updated and fixed the issue.

I'll check it out.
As much as I hate Handcent 5, I tried it, but no go for me. Again searching for a new messaging app. Stock would be fine if it wasn't bubbled.
Themagicm, did you have any luck?
Yes. Seems to be working for me. I'll test some more and if it craps out I'll reply back.
False alarm. Sending works....some recieving works. Uninstalling. The only reason I use it is because I can change the LED color to notify me of unread TMs.
I just now uninstalled Handcent as well. I went over to goSMS. Far from ideal, but at least I can again send receive MMS, as well as receive MMS over wifi.
The original messaging app works for me though...I just want the LED to flash a color of my choosing. Lol

I was looking at that one, but didn't want to shell out money just to try it as I couldn't find a demo. I know I can return it after a few minutes, but would prefer to test it over a few days. Is it that much better/different than others?

Just tried sliding messaging...swiping left and right to loop through conversations? Seriously? There may be ways to change that in the settings but I'm not going to lose my refund window you find it.
I just wish there was a demo, even if it was crippleware, too go through the options. Looked like there was potential, I'll see if I can learn more about it abd may reconsider

Yea you can change that through settings. It is still different from other messaging apps. Easy to get a hang off. Won't use any other sms app now.

I paid for it and used it for a day. Buggy, UI layout can't be changed only colors, stuck in conversation style, when using dark theme you can't see new message notifications on your conversation list since there's no way to change the black highlight color.
I'm sure it fills a niche and I see it has it's fans, but the sliding seems gimmicky and underwhelming. even with the maximum customization that I could do, the best I could do is get it close to 8sms, which is more reliable and less bloated.
They definitely need a free version, or at the very least, a trial period. There's too much in the app to get a feel for it in 15 minutes, and you'd spend most of that time attempting to MANUALLY configure it to send and receive MMS.
I say all this not to bust on the app, as it may be just right for some, but just to throw it out there that if you're used to a handcent-level of customization, this isn't for you.

I dont know what you did but you can change the UI layout. There are 4 different styles. It isn't buggy for me. maybe bad install for you. I do admit that sliding between messages wasn't for me so i disabled it in settings. In theme seting in sliding menu mode choose fullscreen sliding menu or choose no sliding menu.to change display layout it is under theme settings too. Mine highlight color for new messages show up in red highlight and I chose Dark blue theme. Yea like you say it might not be for some.

Right. The layout, meaning where things are located, is the same though. Just the styling of the layout can be changed. For example, I want my contact picture on the left, so that it's in a vertical list and not alternating.

Ahh. I didn't notice that. It would have made it a bit more pleasant. Thanks for at least making me aware of it. I had done the SMS app search before and came up blank so it was at least interesting to learn about and try something new.

Themes and Color schemes

So I'm new to the stock look of this Galaxy, I ran HD ROM on my S4. I like the way the colors looked with the custom ROM. Is installing a theme a way to change the over all look and colors of the screens/menus? I know that launchers do a little with this but I like the stock launcher for now. Sorry I'm semi new to this but any help/pics of your device is VERY helpful.
Thanks!!

Idk if it's considered a theme but if you use Power saving mode you can turn on grey scale

I was wondering the same. I think all the colors are hideous. I am returning my One M8 to get the S5 because I like the size but I can't get over how stupid all the menus look on the S5.
Unfortunately, using the stock launcher (which I also always prefer) you're stuck with the hideous S5 menu. It's a cross between windows phone and a bland icon pack from MIUI. I am TRYING to upgrade my G2, but the M8 and S5 are just so bleh.

I AGREE!! And to be honest I wouldn't mind changing to a different launcher but I really don't like that my notifications do not work with any of the main stream launchers. Like when I get a text or new email the icon does not display this.
Does anyone know a launcher where icon notifications works??
Have you checked other post about this?

I think we are talking about the same thing, there is a messages Icon, and email icon. When I have tried other launchers on my GS5, when i receive either an email or text, normally they display a number on the actual icon on the desktop. With the custom launcher this did not happen, I can see the notification in the top bar that i have a text or email but the actual icon on the desktop does NOT display. My question was, is this the same as on Nova.
Guess I should just download and try........

You have to add Nova launcher notifier or something like that, I'm running nova and it shows how many missed emails and text messages I have. But its at the bottom of the nova download section

There's also a fantastic app in the Play Store called Missed It, which provides counter values for any app that provides notifications to the notification panel, integration with the unread counts option within Nova, and can provide counts within fully customizable widgets...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.igecelabs.android.MissedIt
It's a premium app, but well worth it (for me).

The last time that I looked, this was not an option with the stock messaging app. But there are lots of third party SMS apps in the Play store that do allow you to change the bubble colours.
