[Q] Analyzing performance of "Android System" - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When analyzing the performance of my S5, I see "Android System" is taking up 22%. How can I analyze what exactly is taking so much?

Google Engineer Debunks Myth : Wiping Battery
Stats Does Not Improve Battery Life
There you have it, in the title. Google engineer Dianne
Hackborn, who has previously explained Android’s hardware
acceleration , took to Google+ again to clarify some myths
about the Android operating system. This time, it’s a point of
common advice that you’ll see in virtually every FAQ thread
about custom ROMs and flashing: wiping battery stats in
order to improve battery life.
The reasoning behind that piece of advice was something like
this: If you, at some point, did not charge your Android
device fully (for example, only to 80%), it would supposedly
remember that battery level as “fully charged” – in this case,
you’d only ever get to use 80% of your battery, which is of
course less than optimal. So, if you wipe the battery stats,
usually done in ClockWord Mod Recovery, the device would
“forget” the previous level, here 80%, and instead charge to
the full 100% once again, thereby re-calibrating the battery.
Or, as Hackborn puts it in more technical terms:
The battery indicator in the status/
notification bar is a reflection of the
batterystats.bin file in the data/system/
directory.
However, as she explains, that’s not the case. Because those
battery stats, stored in the batterystats.bin file, are only used
to maintain information about what is using the battery when
not recharging. That is, it essentially holds the information
displayed in the Settings > Battery screen. Nothing more,
nothing less. Thus:
It has no impact on the current battery level
shown to you.
It has no impact on your battery life.
What’s more, you’ve probably noticed that the battery usage
data is reset once you recharge your device anyway. From
this you can correctly deduce that the battery stats are
wiped as well – every time your device is recharged. More or
less every day. If there was any effect, you would’ve noticed
it without going into recovery and doing that stuff. Typical
placebo, eh?
I knew about that ^^

Phone will not deep sleep below ~40%

Here is a puzzle. Overall problem statement is that when the battery level is below 40%, the battery drains quickly with minimum wakelocks. In other words, the phone does not "deep sleep" when battery percentage is below 40%.
My definition of "deep sleep" is battery drain slows to less than 1%/hr and this is usually shown in the battery graph as a near horizontal line.
Phone: Samsung i337m (Telus)
ROM: Kitkat 4.4.2 NE1 Odin flash firmware, so everything is NE1.
Other info: Towelrooted, Xposed Framework installed
Below is a screenshot dump of the battery info, BBS, and Wakelock Detector (WLD).
Observe that BBS and WLD are logging since last unplugged at ~1.5 hrs ago. So when you look at the battery info screenshot, please take into account the last 1.5 hr time on the right hand side only. If you look carefully, there isn't too many wakelocks. This is confirmed by BBS and WLD.
Only exception is in the last SS in WLD showing NILS program keeping the screen on for 8 min & 32 sec, which doesn't really make sense.
Check out the last SS for the Poor Battery Drain batch to show that battery drain is much higher at 1.2%/hr over a 7 hour period. This is compared to 0.7%/hr over a similar 7 hour period. The only difference is the starting battery level.
Good Battery Drain SS posted for comparison purposes and to illustrate my point
Based on the above, my only theory is that the battery calibration is off such that below 40% the battery has drained much more than indicated....
Any other ideas or suggestions to fix this problem?

[Q] "system_server" High CPU Usage and Battery Drain

Hello! I recently started having big problems with my battery life. I have a Verizon galaxy note 3, with safestrap and Hyperdrive ROM installed. A few days ago, my battery started to drain much quicker than normal. I looked at the battery info, and saw that the android system was using the most battery by far; even more than the screen. I then saw that my CPU usage never dropped below 70% and usually hovered around 90%. Next, I went to developer settings and looked at the CPU processes. I saw that "system_server" was using up most of the CPU. This persists through a reboot, and drains battery life incredibly quickly, about 15% per 20 minutes. I cleared the cache and dalvic cache, and this had no effect on the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience? Thanks.

poor battery life on galaxy s4

Hi I have a galaxy s4 i9500, I am rooted and have gear cm13. I've been experiencing extremely poor battery life with the screen on and/or off, losing 1% every minute or so. I've read other threads but it didn't seem to sort out my problem please help me somebody
Install better battery stats to see what's using the most of your battery.
I'm really sorry for the late reply, I installed gsam battery monitor and it told me that android system was using up most of my battery life.....
I followed a thread on the forum about resetting the fuel gauge and my phone is back to the way it should be fortunately,,, although occasionally the battery does tend to drain more quickly than usual, I will download better battery stats to show you what it says
I flashed resurrection remix and my battery life has never been better, all other problems I've been having are also resolved.. Looks like it was just CyanogenMod that was causing the problems

Samsung battery stats?

Does Samsung firmware track battery stats? If so, where I can I find them? I am using a stock ROM (Marshmallow 6.0.1), but with custom recovery and root. I am referring to cycle count and available/charge capacity (i.e. the percentage of design capacity that the battery currently holds).
Note: I am not referring to energy usage stats or CPU usage stats (include wake-locks). For these kinds of questions, people will randomly mention BetterBatteryStats, but according to the BBS thread page, by the developer, on this forum, that app doesn't access such information.
