[Q] Task manager on Note 4 - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok guys first of all I did my search about the "NEW TASK MANAGER on SGNOTE 4" that comes in original Kitkat in Note 4. I didn't found any complains. Here's my question:
What do you think about it?
I'm porting from SgNote 2, and its Task manager was really helpfull, I've never feel my phone slow after I used, but now, I'm having 900Mb of free Ram, and I'm not using anything on first task! I MEAN A LOT OF SPENT RAM WITHOUT I'VE OPENED ANYTHING, and I activate the task manager and says THERE'S NO TASK TO KILL. Of course I've have my Note 4 Rooted, so I unistalled a lot of stuff I'm not using, and I'm using the "gemini app" task killer to kick up that apps running back.
And my suggestion,
Is there a dev who can port the SGNOTE 2 OR SGNOTE3 task manager to our SGNOTE 4?
(I'm using exynos version if it's necessary to know)

Free RAM is wasted RAM. Don't worry about having "only" 900Mb free RAM because the OS is trying to optimise memory performance and usage. Essentially, the OS will be keeping frequently used processes and data in memory even if they are not actively being used, because it improves both performance and battery usage.
The more RAM you throw at Android, the more it will consume - a Note 4 with only 2GB of RAM would still run everything that a 3GB Note 4 would generally run, but performance would likely be lower when multi-tasking or switching apps.
Regards,
Dave

well Thanks
Ok, I Though that spent battery. That's why I was worry about it. I changed to ART and I have not noticed any difference, except of course than I have never had any lag. (I'M NOT USING TOUCHWIZ).

Memory Available on my Vibrant

So i'm not new to smart phones but i'm completely new to android phones (other than having a g1 for two weeks when they originally came out).
I'm using advanced task killer and when I kill the apps it says 0 apps killed 160M memory available but when I used my moms new MTS it said around 250M. Is that right? Am I missing something here?
Also what's the best way to get into rooting/customizing these phones? I've read some of the threads but i'm not exactly sure why I should do it and what exactly it will benefit. Any links or other help would be appreciated
thanks
Bleh, task killers. Not really recommended or needed. Android is very very very good at memory management.
On my Vibrant, I tried opening apps one after the other, and Android started killing older apps at around 65mb free RAM. It didn't go under 60mb. If I install ATK and kill everything I get about ~156mb free, this is corroborated by Systray Monitor.
The system is still ultra-responsive, even at 60mb free RAM.
Edit: by MTS, do you mean MyTouch Slide? It could be that TouchWiz or other Vibrant-specific system processes (that can't be killed with ATK, thankfully) may use more ram than the Slide's Espresso and system processes.

Yeah I meant MTS.
I was using the app killer more for battery. Does it not affect the battery that much?
No, most of the stuff you're "killing" is just cached and not using any processor power and only a teeny tiny itsy bitsy amount of extra power to keep the RAM refreshed. You might get an extra 5 seconds of battery life per kill, but that's all used up and then some by having to run ATK and hunt it down.
Keep in mind, most of the "Must Have Task Killers" mindset comes from the dated wisdom of old G1 veterans. Those survivors of the 1.x era actually had need of Task Killers because they had devices with very little RAM, a more primitive version of the OS to work with, and less well-behaved applications.
That ain't the case now, and especially not an issue with a Galaxy S variant.

[Q] RAM manager

Hi,
I looked at my free ram and on daily use I have 1 GB of free ram.
So is there any sens to use ram manger to allow android use more ram (mean to not kill app and has less free ram)?
Unused RAM is wasted RAM (just before anyone else says it )
I have 1.3GB of RAM free on my N4. I wouldn't recommend a 3rd-party RAM manager, and just trust Android to handle it
Unrelated, but I have some weird memory leak issue on my N10 that basically causes all RAM to be taken up by something eventually, and all apps end up Restarting. Quite annoying, but the only thing I can do in this situation is reboot the tablet. Can't say I've seen or heard of this on the N4.

i cant say i like the way android does it, even though it does do it. i use greenify, and autostarts to prevent apps from starting in the background. also, i change the numbers to androids ram management. now im happy
But greenify make some apps start slower, yes? (because they have to start again)
How you change the number of free ram?

If you have widgets on your lock screen or on your home screen they will use up ram. Uninstall any apps you rarely use to free up ram.
Don't see why you're worried. You have as much FREE ram as an s3 does on the box
On a more serious note, I doubt you'll see any difference by freeing up ram. 500-600 mb of free ram = smooth experience generally

I'm no expert, but what I've read on these forums, it's best to just let Android take care of it. Android has come pretty far with memory management, and third-party apps might just end up taking more RAM/battery.
You're wasting your time worrying about it.

[Q] RAM on I9505

Hello guys,
i can't understand where disappear 2Gb memory on SGS4 i9505. I use stock ROM, minimum one time per day i need clean memory through "active aplication" manager because phone unresponsive, it is same situation as on my old phone SGS1 I9000 (512mb RAM). Even all aplication cleared still used 1.2Gb RAM of 1.78Gb physically memory. This is normal or i need begin flash a lot of custom ROM's for find something useful that realy works??? What is better way?
Thanks in advance for answers.

Stock ROM is full of bloatware and stuff. This means you have a ****load of useless apps running in the background, and some useful ones too. You should root your phone, go to application manager and DISABLE all of the useless bloatware you never use (use caution though - some things depend on others. For example don't disable google services if you intend on using any of their things).
There are many apps out there which show you what's running in the background and taking most space. Are you sure your phone feels slower or it's just the RAM that worries you?
Keep in mind that apps keep running in the background so you can later open them quickly, so if you force close them the next time you open them it will be slower.

Yes, i feel that phone slower, i wait too long time, while i check RAM it is almost full, and after cleaning RAM phone is more responsive.
Ok, i'll try disable some services in background with root phone, thank you.
I'm still using mine on the unbranded MDM which came with the phone.
I will wait a couple more days, and if they will not release a BTU update, i will flash the DBT one.
Since i have the phone ~May , i never had those lags and redraws like i see here from some users.
I'm not rooted at the moment and if i use apps/games and i just exit them, used RAM drops to ~0.98, i never clear them from memory, but if i do then the used ram drops to ~0.87.

let the android system manage your ram.
any way, you want to see more free ram?
go to developers options and set "Background process limit" to 4 or less

it saves a little bit of battery.
but setting limit is not so good for multi-tasking, some apps (not cached in the background) will take a little more time to open, maybe you will not notice that. so if you set limit for example to 2, open running app in setting and press on "show cached process", you will see only 2 apps are cached in the background

Yes, i did it, now on phone "Background proccess limit" is 4 app, but in any case during normal phone job 1.1Gb is used.
Simply i compare with my previous phone galaxy s I9000 that flashed with custom ROM on android 4.1 (comparable software) and i it perfectly and stable work with 512Mb RAM and 1gb (one core) proccessor. I don't play with games and don't feel high difference between two absolutely different hardware's & devices (i don't speak about screens). Old phone work very smoothly, it only uses half as much system resources relatively to new galaxy s4 i9505. Why i need use "Background process limit" option on newest device with 2Gb RAM, even think about it? What is payment for biggest high quality screen?

no need and not mandatory to set process limit, it is for dev and testing purposes.
linux is smart enough to manage ram

Of course, but what reason unrational using memory on galaxy S4?
I can understand than system use 500Mb RAM even 700Mb but not over 1gb....

on S4, for example, you are dealing with almost 1.14 GB of system apps,
a lot of bloatwares....

So, only one way remove excess system apps.
thanks for your help.

[Q] Will to low/little ram be an issue?

Some posts here says that only 2.38GB is "usably/visably" and that the rest is "locked" for the system (As someone said)
Anyway when i look at task manager (nothing open, but i do have quite alot of apps installed) i only have 758MB ram left!
758MB ram left thats VERY little, so will this be an future issue? How much ram do you have free? (had the phone 3 days now)
Default 1.2GB in use. If I clear using Task Manager, drops to 800MB in use.

Guyzz .... Show your apps list and your ram usage and mention the task killers u use

Take a screen shot of all the installed apps in ur list and also take a screenshot of the ram usage ... Let's see who conserves well .... Mention the task killers ....

I wouldnt recommend "adding" a Task Killer. Better tweak Android's native one to you likings using any of many Tweakers, or manually do so via Build.prop. It has been stated than Android OS does a great job at this. Task Killers will more likely lag the device and eat up resources/battery.
- Paul
Task killer was actually useful back in Froyo days... Back then Android's memory management isn't that great and very prone to lags (I remember my old Froyo phone)
But seriously... we're now at version 4.4.x, no longer 2.2.x... Android has become more and more efficient and even now Kitkat runs on a 512MB RAM device.
If you worry about background apps taking CPU cycles or keeping the device at wakelocks.... Greenify helps... but the ultimate solution is to hunt down the app and uninstall it. It's obvious that the app dev did a horrible job.
+1
I agree...I use Greenify and it helps a lot, airdroid, and even camaras work in the background. I've debloated my Grand, Seeder, done some minor build.prop tweaks (manually): fling speeds, max events, etc, and I have no complaints. Many of those "tweaks" out there, is more 'Snake Oil' than anything else.
