I have a Galaxy Tab 7.7 with a older version of the amoled display. On it black is not truly off. At night even a fully black screen glows faintly (screen off is truly black and doesn't glow). Is this the case with the Note 4?

Yep, since the Galaxy S4 blacks are pixels turned off.

Hi
I just noticed something weird going on, the more black I have in the screen the brighter the whites get. Asif the more oleds are turned on its draining more power and making the other oleds loose overall power.

CONTRAST.

To expand, the more black there is around the white, the more white the black seems in comparison, that is contrast.
And as the AMOLED pixel is its own light source the contract is already very high, as a black pixel is an off pixel not giving out any light.

Hence why having a black background saves power and also lessens the chance of screen burn on amoled displays.

For me it is the "Auto adjust screen power" on display settings menu.

Yeah exactly the notification menu dragging makes it really obvious.

Yeah, definitely that. This function is on by default and limits the maximum power drain of the screen, so if there's a lot of white (or bright colors) on screen it will limit the overall brightness in order to save power.
I think it's very irritating and disabled this feature about 1 hour after buying the phone and never turned it back on.
Thanks guys. Auto screen power definitely the culprit. The screen is allot more uniform and "normal" now. Nicer to use.

Did you guys notice a somewhat big colour shift when you tilt the screen on Galaxy S4? e.g. a white background turns blue, and an orange colour turns yellow when i tilt the device at just 40 degree in all sides.
I've tried playing around with the autobrightness and screen mode, which does not make any difference.

Just found out at the mall all Galaxy S4's screens do this. So it's by design.
I find this except I start with yellow, not white!

Looking to buy my first tablet, I love the Amelod of the Note 2 and absolutely hate LCD on phones because the colour is so bad.
Is this tablet amelod or lcd?

It's LCD, but the screen is the best on the market compared to others.
It's an extremely nice lcd. If you want amoled go for the tab s. No digitizer though so it's pen vs screen decision time. Base hw is basically the same.
The next version of 10 incher Samsung Note Series may use SuperAMOLED screen again. :silly:
But I see some battery test of Tab S compare to Note 2014,Note Pro , SuperAMOLED consume more battery than LCD.

Considerably more battery, but blacks and dark colors so have more saturation...But is it worth it? I say no.

I always thought that LCD use up more battery because they have a backlight illumination.
Since Amoled pixels emit light, they will use nothing to display black. So great contrast and low power on dark pages, screens, movies etc
Lcd will use similar power to display any colour as the pixels block or allow light to pass through from a backlight.
Lcd will use less for very light scenes, Web browsing and with less contrast
Its a choice...
I have the note 3 n900 and i notice that the white color on the screen has an obvious yellow tint so i compare it with galaxy tab 2 10 inch and galaxy mega 5.8 inch ... and both devices shows the white color like a normal white not having this yellow tent on white color like my note 3 and the white color is more bright than my note 3 ... and i set the screen mod to dynamic mod cause its the least yellow tint of all other mods like standard or even adaptive mod.. so i don't know ... is it only my device or all note 3 devices are like that and do u compare its screen it with other samsung devicrs

I had a Galaxy S2, had yellowish tint on the display. I am unsure whether it had two variants or not, but I had the one which was officially sold in my country.
I had a Note 2, Exynos, yellowish tint was there but in less extent.
I had an S4, Exynos, there was almost no yellowish tint, at least that's what I can remember.
Now I have a Note 3, I don't have any yellowish tint at all, and I use movie mode. Turning on Adapt display or Dynamic makes the screen irritatingly cool/bluish. Honestly I could not be more happy with a phone's colour reproduction.
However I read a lot, and I saw that a lot of people possessing the Exynos variant, which is yours, are having this problem on GSMArena Note 3 page. You can see for yourself, just go back few pages. I think it has something to do with Exynos models only? Cause I have never heard a person having a Snapdragon variant complaining about this issue.
You can ask Samsung CC to replace the phone, only if you can show them how a display without any tint looks like, cause they are both arrogant and dumb.
Thanks 4 ur reply

Keep in mind that the Tab and Mega are LCD, not AMOLED. LCD has a pale blue hue, whereas AMOLED is much, much more saturated.
You really should compare it to another N900 unit, or an N9005.
As mentioned above, this is a problem that occurs on the Exynos version, but not the Snapdragon.
Thanks

I am interested in buying a tab s2 8 inch. Screen seems to be very nice from the reviews I've read and I need it specifically for reading at night time (so in the dark).
For this I need to be able to set the brightness very low (I am extremely sensitive to light in the dark) but it should still be readable and not flickering.
Is the s2 amoled screen capable of doing this or should I pick a non-amoled tablet (e.g. Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7.0)?

In my experience, this tablet is made for exactly what you are proposing. If you set the background as black with the text white, you will have excellent contrast without much light shining into your eyes at all, as only the white pixels will be on. If your reading app doesn't off a black background, you can simply negative the image in accessibility settings. I've never sensed any screen flicker on my uint :victory:
An LCD on the other hand shines lots of light into your eyes even with a black background. This isn't great for your sleep a partner will hate you for lighting up the room. :crying:
Get the S2, you wont be disappointed. :highfive:
Thanks - exactly what I was hoping for.
