Data Usage in Settings - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyway to change how much data you have used in the data usage under settings?

I dont really understand the context of your question. Are you wanting to roll back your data so you'll have more, or trying to prevent an argument with someone about your data usage, or something else?
Either way the only thing you can do is limit the data you use, and set a notification to tell you when you're close, so you wont go over the cap.

I was wondering if how much data it says you have used can be changed to match what Verizon says you have used., so that one is not to much different than the other.

Under the data network settings, do you have auto sync checked?

I do.

Other than that, i dont know. Is it a significant amount of difference between the two? I checked mine and its basically the same.

I need to give it a couple of days since my data cycle just reset.

[IDEA] Disabling Wipe In The Settings

Well I Have A Little Idea, I Have Had A Few Friends That Have Gotten Their Phone Stolen, So The Normal Thief Would Turn It On And Wipe The Phone Through The Settings, My Idea Is Taking Off The Wipe Option In The Settings. Now We All Know Those Apps That Help Find Your Phone, Actually Work. But Most Of Us Between Switching Roms, Forget To Install It. So By The Time Some One Is Searching How To Wipe The Phone, We Can Download The App From The Market Webpage And Find Our Phone, Maybe It'd Be Possible To Disguise The Wipe Option In The Recovery Menu? I Don't Know If It's Possible (I'm Sure It Is) Or If I'm The Only One That Is Wanting This.. Let Me Know Any Ideas Or If There Is A Developer That'd Be Able To Help With This
I think it'd be possible to remove the menu option in the recovery by modifying the source but you'd want to enable some sort of combination of keypresses or some script to be able to wipe when you actually need/want to wipe it

Hmm, I Actually Like That, I Was Thinking Maybe Disguising The Name, But Actually Using A Script Might Be Nice.

I think the average thief maybe would wipe, but he will not use the recovery for that, because he won't know what it is.
If he should know, he will surely just flash back a stock ROM before selling the phone. You won't be able to do anything against that.
If there is only a "normal thief", you could do it another way: You would need an app, that is flashed into the system partition, is working completely stealthy in the background and has all it's configs in the system-partition (maybe for installing and editing the settings there could be a user app with root-access).
If the thief then just wipes the phone, i.e. from within the Android-menu, this app will stay and work. He would have to flash a new ROM to get rid of it.

Hmm So Basically Just Add The App Into The Rom Like Any System App, Ok That Sounds Good Too Lol, And The Only Reason I Know About The Recovery Menu Thing Is Because, If There Is A Password Then Usually Some People Google How To Wipe The Phone If They "Forgot" Their Password.
Cerebrus in rom manager does exactly this, no? Once flashed it runs completely in the background and no way of knowing its there or get rid of it outside of cwm.

Verizion Data Widget

Is there a way I can get the verizion data widget in any custom roms? It's the only reason why I wont flash any, I need the widget.
You can download the My Verizon app from Google Play, but it may not work on non stock based ROMs like Cyanogenmod.
Here is a 3rd party app that lets you login to your Verizon account and then has its own widgets that look the same as Verizons.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hoeksoft.minute.widget.verizon
if all you are looking for is something to tell u how much data u have used there are way better aps and they tell you in pretty much real time unlike the verizon app which u need to hit the refresh button
I can confirm that the My Verizon app works on Carbon

It is a widget . Create one on Xperia launcher, for example, by a long press on any homepage to get to customize/widgets.
Once myverizon is installed.

works for me - but I think VZW doesn't allow it to automatically update (you have to keep pressing the refresh button) due to the change in pricing structure with the share everything plan (even if you don't have that plan).
what helps for me is getting the text/e-mail alerts when my data reaches a certain threshold (50%, 75%, 90%).
also, your phone can track that in the settings.

I forgot about the data tracking in the settings! Thanks, I'll just set a limit where my data will turn off when I use a certain amount. Thanks for the help.

Google Play Services Battery Drain Fix (Not Tested on other phones)

Hey guys, I was playing around and trying to get the google play services battery drain to stop some way. I found a small way to get it to drain a lot less. Its nothing big just thought i'd share if it helps. I haven't tried on other phones yet, but it probably would work.
Under settings go to Data usage , scroll down and find Google Services.
Click on it and below you can see Restrict App Background Data and switch it on.
That's all.
I am not sure if it will work for all you guys or if it is an actual fix but it did make it a lot better for me.
Anyways lemme know if it does and if so spread the word.
Peace
Its actually a good idea to take a look at all your apps like that. The first thing I do is turn off background data on a lot of my apps. A lot of them do that by default and its usually not needed. Its going to save more on your data than your battery though.

yeah that's just what I did. I was searching for Google services and ended up restricting almost all the background apps data. helped a little with battery. Not a huge boost though. maybe like 15 min of extra screen time.

It's pretty good help though for those with a restricted data plan.
Don't you defeat the purpose of a smartphone by disabling this? Google services are (unfortunately) responsible for the functioning of most IM apps.

Well not exactly. I get all the notifications and push messages I need. I just restrict apps that i don't really use on a daily basis.

Well.. I will see if it works.. right now I have done what you suggsted.. Lets see what happens..
I'm sure it will save a little data, but I doubt it will save as much battery. You could look at your battery stats and see how much the service is using. I haven't touched mine, but it's not showing any battery usage in my stats.

Looking for a app to turn off data when screen off

Hi,
I used to use an app for that on my S6 but seems it does not work on my S8 Oreo.
If someone has an idea...
Thanks !
Use data saver?
If you want data off with the screen off you will receive no internet app notifications with the built in data saver.
I have to open the apps manually to see updates.
You can also allow certain apps to bypass the data saver.

I'm not sure what you mean by that.
If your data saver was on it'd stop any processes even system from connecting to data services in the background.
If it didn't that would be shady.
I have noticed however going from AOSP Lineage 14.1 to S EX 8.0.0 it absolutely munches my data...
Until I rooted and removed all bloatware and some system apps that were just questionable...
One day the AOSP lords will come together and make the S8/+ owners cream themselves with that stock android goodness.
One day...

Internet issues after update to Pie

Hey, I've updated to Pie since 2 months and the data connection on the phone is horrible. Apps will randomly report no network or no connection. Is there a way I can reinstall the radio?
The phone is usable and everything else works but the bad data connection and it dropping out is really annoying.

I noticed a few settings were a little off such as IPV4/IPV6 being selected instead of just IPV4. I created a new apn with the correct settings from the article you linked. I will give it a few days and report back. Thank you for your help!:good:
