I had recently updated to N12 and root. Accidentally, I deleted some things through titanium backup without backing them up. For example, I lost some Samsung fonts. And I don't know why but I can't get any location services to work. I figured I deleted something that may have caused that.
I thought if I did a factory reset I would be able to start from scratch. However, even after a factory reset my location services still did not work and the fonts I had deleted were still not recovered. I know it was a factory reset because I had to go through everything as if I had first received my phone like setting up accounts, going through installation tutorials, etc.
I don't know how to fix this problem. What should I do? If there a file I can flash that will get me to original stock settings?
A factory reset doesn't magically bring back deleted system files. You're going to have to either odin a full firmware tar again, or if you were on a rom from the dev section reflash said rom, to get back everything you deleted.

Thank you for the help! That makes sense and I feel dumb for not realizing it. Doh! Sorry for another obvious question, but which exact firmware tar should I flash? I tried flashing NCG_Stock_Kernel.tar.md5 and NI2_stock_kernel.tar.md5 and I still had the same problems.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54700443
Flash the "FULL STOCK TAR" of the current build you are already on.
Edit: you will more than likely lose root after flashing a full stock tar, but you can go back through the steps to reroot like before.

Ok I had my phone rooted and had voodoo on it. The phone was having issues downloading from the market, plus I couldnt turn the phone on unless i had it pluged in. So I tried to reset it using odin and the Stock-i500-VZW-Recovery.tar.md5. Now when I turn the phone on i get the android application has an uxpected error and I cant get past that. What do I do? Or how can I get my phone back to stock so I can re-root it.

Jeff,
See this post for returning to stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782204. I would do this as a last resort only.
Good Luck!
that is what got me to this problem. there are multiple files there what one do i use?
You apply them in the order they are listed.
1. Apply the "/system" file first
2. Apply the "kernel" file second
3. Apply thie "recovery" file third
This restores stock /system, the stock kernel, and the stock recovery. Pretty much brings you back to stock. Is that what you're trying to do?
I was having the same issues with USB cable looking like it was plugged in so I couldn't reboot unless it was plugged. I tried the voodoo uninstall and screwed up my data partition.
I ended up restoring the CWM_Kernel and Di01 Stock update which brought me back to stock with root and OTA update from Verizon BUT my Data partition is screwed and I have no internal app memory. Also, I have an Nandroid backup that I tried to install but that causes the FC issues that you mentioned. My guess is that my nandroid backup will work once I fix the data partition.
Later tonight, I'm going to try to put the stock MBR back onto the phone which I think you need to do as well.
However, it sounds like you didn't complete the whole recovery process and only applied one file. I'm an android newby so you can't take my advice to the bank but I think you need to restore all the files if you're going to flash with Odin per those instructions.
For me, I had CWM loaded so I just wiped the kernel and put back the DI01 ROM which put me back to stock albeit with some work to do to get my data partition back in shape. I hope this helped, for what it's worth.
Since you've already got the original.mbr copied and the stock.zip flashed...
Boot into CWM recovery and wide data/cache.
If you have a CWM backup of your phone in a rooted state, restore that backup through CWM.
Reboot, and go into "settings" if possible at this point, and factory reset.
This got me back from market failure/0.00/fc hell after utterly failing to heed the voodoo warnings and trying to revert to stock without undoing the lagfix.
You'll likely need to use the unsigned d101 apk if your backup/flash is dh12. The OTA update did not work for me at that point.

My question is do i use the phone. pda or csc buttons for these files?
Ok in Odin use the PDA button for the /system
but what button do i use in odden to load the kernal.tar and recovery.tar
i loaded the pit, and installed all the files using the pda button one after the other. now my phone get no service and it still isnt wiped. what is going on? how do i get the phone back to out of the box condition.
also, now i cant do a factory wipe/reset, im getting the error message Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
Gotta do the mbr fix from the 0.00 internal memory topic and then restore nandroid recovery.
Oh, and it is PDA for all three files, not just system.

As the title says, I'm getting notifications to upgrade my Nexus 7 to 4.2 even though I have 4.2 already. If it were the 4.2.1 update that it wanted me to update to, wound't it say 4.2.1 instead of 4.2?
Info on the device:
Rooted
Bootloader Unlocked
Stock ROM
I went ahead and tried installing the update many times and while it shutdown to do its dirty work, it eventually error-ed out (while the little Android guy is on his back). I have even done a factory reset and I still get the prompts to update to 4.2... from 4.2. Errors are there as well. Thank you for your help.

Yes, the 4.2.1 upgrade says "4.2" in the update screen. Your device is trying to go from 4.2->4.2.1.
The upgrade however seems to be failing. Since you are using a stock recovery, there is no indication on what part is stopping it. It could just be a glitch or, more likely, you modified something. Did you install any mods or root and modify any system apps? Freezing them in TiBu/etc. will break it too.

I did read other posts but they didn't seem to help.
After I rooted the device, I went ahead and pasted the original browser.apk in the System/App folder and installed it from there. From what I read, that was most likely my problem. I deleted it but still got the error. After that I said "screw this" and applied a data factory reset thinking that would solve my problems

Yes, that modification would certainly break the OTA update.
Doing a factory wipe won't help. That won't revert the old system apk back to stock. Nor will deleting it.
Your best bet is to download the full 4.2.1 image and flash that. Or, you could find and restore the original browser.apk.
This should serve as another reminder to people who make tweaks - always backup the original file!

It's not that bad. Everything works fine except for updating the thing. As for the restoring the original browser.apk, if you mean Chrome, I never touched it so it is there.
My guess is that I didn't install the CWM Recovery correctly because I can't boot into Recovery Mode. It just hangs and stays in a loop. I will re-install CWM and see if that helps.
John J
Re-installed CWM Recovery and flashed 4.2.1 from there. Lost everything but I had anything important backup already. All is good
So first off im gonna start off and say that I dont really care about being rooted in the first place. I thought id be flashing a lot more stuff but It turns out that I never flashed anything. So on my phone as of now I just have root and I have twrp installed onto it. I did that process to take off the custom recovery status from using motochopper as well. Now my problem is that every time i try to take the ota I get booted right into twrp and then i am unable to take the update. I even downloaded the zip file and tried flashing it and I just get a failed message. Can anyone tell me whats going on? Or point me into the right direction so i can uninstall twrp so I can take the update?

Like axman said, flashing with Odin to stock nothing gets deleted. If you do a factory wipe, everything gets deleted.
You could also try to update with kies instead of ota. Maybe that will work.
The problem is not that you removed root you still are using a custom recovery you need to get back to full stock use odin to get the phone back to full stockso you'll have a stock recovery

Ok folks,
I'm having a hell of a time with my phone.
No matter what rom I flash, seems to have issues from lockups to reboot.
I have tried every kind of wipe in CWM, inluding making sure I have the latest version of CWM and modem, same.
Is there a way to TOTALLY wipe everything on the phone and go back to true factory default, even as far as the phone number programming? Like it was when it came from Splint?
(Yes, I'd then want to unlock with Odin and put a new ROM).
Thanks much!

Yes it will put the phone back to when you took it out of the box..I think he means that if you have any files that you downloaded to the internal storage ie pics, music, contacts things like that they won't be touched.
Just download the Odin file and the Sprint file which is the stock software the phone came with and use is procedure.
Just to worn you The Sprint file is large and will take awhile to download to your comp
Get the full mf9 tar.md5. Remove sd card. Flash with pc Odin. After phone boots up to home screen and settles down, don't set up anything. Go into settings, accounts, backup, then do full factory reset with wipe of internal storage. After it reboots and settles down again, you're completely back to stock. No need to wipe your phone number and associated settings. If it were me, I'd stay away from custom roms if they're giving you nothing but problems.

Not to be unappreciative, but, w/o a reset all the data was still there.
Which makes me nervous wondering if there is some crap left over.
Yes, I realize a wipe will get rid of the apps but I want to make sure I'm truly starting from point 0.

So if you are on MF9 good luck with going back to stock everything. Because the methods mentioned above don't get rid of the MF9 Firmware just the Build. Also You have use triangle away which only works on MDC and MDL to get to fully clean stock. Everything mentioned in this thread will not do what you want if you are wanting it out of the box like new condition.

So here we go again...
I tried using Odin to get back to stock but, Odin just kept crashing
every time I tried loading the 'MD5' file. I tried multiple versions as well..
Then I realized even though the computer would say Odin was
'Not Responding' I continued to wait, and finally it loaded the MD5!
So I went ahead and tried going back to stock, but when I did
every stock MD5 file causes my device to close
Google Play, Google Location, and SystemUI rapidly...
I was able to get my original Recovery in there and restore a backup,
but I'd really like to try and go back to stock for a bit and start fresh.
What the heck in the world is going on with my phone?!
I thought Odin was my safety net, here to help me, but
instead I'm getting more and more hassle trying to get it workin'...
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!!
Just tried flashing MK6 using Odin

on its own?

The way I understand it there are 2 types of Odin flashable fws: full wipe and no full wipe. Full wipe fws are the ones that come in separate parts, i.e. BL, AP, CP etc. and no full wipe fws are the complete tar.md5 files. I recently went back to stock to get a fresh start as well and had the same issue with FC's on boot up. Factory reset fixed it

Ya that's what I used too. I just formatted all the individual partitions first using philz to be sure I got a clean start. Also, if u wanna try it, the leaked NC1 firmware that dropped right before the official OTA's came out, I think that was a 'full restore' fw as it came in 4 sections.

There is a boot.img inside the stock fw if I'm not mistaken, and that should overwrite anything you've done to /boot (where the kernel lives).
So if I understand this correctly I have a couple of options one of them being I do the full firmware update using the 4 files provided from the leak. Or somehow install the boot.img and that should fix the wifi drop issues?
