Hey guys.
So I decided to update my wife's phone. It was running some version of stock rooted NAE from way back in the day. Noticed it needs NG2 modem for the NG2 Roms to work, so I just updated to Sacs V6 until I had a computer handily available to Odin to stock, then root.
Well, here's the thing. After a few hours of Sacs, her phone had rebooted a few times and kept losing connection all together then reconnecting back to 3g for a split second before disconnecting again. Well, I got a hold of the PC and Odin'd to stock NG2. Then rooted.
Well, now it won't connect to anything when LTE/CDMA is active under network mode, and obviously ONLY connects to 3g when CDMA Only is active. This is a big problem as the 3g service in my area is MISERABLE.(lol sprint) anyone have any clue what the issue is?
On a side note, I was getting 3g on LTE/CDMA before I decided to restore defaults in the APN menu. Now I get absolutely nothing on LTE/CDMA.
My s5 has perfect 4g LTE connection, so I know its a phone issue.(unless the s5 and s4 run off different types of LTE[I have no clue])
Any help would be MUCH appreciated guys.
Try ##72786#
Gave it a go. Nothing. LTE on my s5, still no LTE on the wife's s4. She's getting perfect 3g though. Checked ##3282# as well. LTE is enabled in there as well.
Okay. Soooo, she still has no 4g and 3g is continuously disconnecting again. Completely reverted to stock, noticed she still had NAE baseband. Downloaded the modem separately. Installed both. Now she is on NG2 baseband as well, but still having the issues.
Could be hardware issue. If you've reverted and tried to reset and do hands free activation there's not much going on with the software.
That's what I was assuming as well. She's only three months out from an upgrade, so she can just wait it out I suppose. We've got an iPhone 5 she can use for 4g in the meantime.
The only thing that had me confused was before updating the ROM, 4g was working just fine.
Everyone we flash or modify we are at risk of numerous problems and issues. Why the developers put a disclaimer flash at your own risk. (and she could've dropped it without telling you )
Sorry about the delay. It seemed go fix itself guys. Must've been a widespread network issue in my area. Thanks to everyone though.

Hey everyone,
Had the Galaxy S2 since Saturday, unlocked the device, everything was working great. Out of no where, yesterday the phone still shows the H+ logo and full signal, yet i cannot send, receive text messages, initiate a data connection or make/receive phone calls.
In order to get all that ability back, you either have to 1) reboot the device, or 2) turn airplane mode on then off.
This only works for roughly 10 minutes before it all happens all over again.
I tried swithing to WCDMA only, but issue still persists, even tried some menu codes I found on another thread to disable H+ but the same thing happens.
This is currently happening on the bell shipped rom with no root or anything of the sort.
Has anyone experienced this?
I've searched for hours but can only really find complaints of data connection loss only. In my case it's everything. Data / SMS / Cell
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I feel your pain, even though I have an XEU unlocked GS2, I've updated it with every update from kies hoping the issue would resolve.
Even with the latest KF3 update the issue persisted, however the phone could be used on Rogers with no issues, on Telus data drops constantly.
Disabling fast dormancy didn't do much to help.
However since updating the phone to KG3 2.3.4 yesterday I have not had the issue happen again. For the first time since I got the phone it no longer drops the data connection on Telus.

Thanks for the quick response. Was it only your data that disconnected, or everything else?
Also, may you please link me to the update? I suppose I could use that as a last ditch effort before exchanging the device before its too late.
My issue has changed over the past couple months, originally the phone would report that it dropped the network and when it came back data wouldn't work until airplane off then on or a reboot.
Lately things seemed fine with occasional data drops until yesterday, when it had full signal but I couldn't use data, sms or make a call. It was basically a paper weight until I updated it. The link to the file which has everything you need to update from samfirmware.com is below.

*edit - I'd make sure you have a back-up of your current firmware in case you need to flash back and return the phone.
I have the exact same problem. Bought a bell gs2 unlocked it and now with telus. My data dropped constantly and now I'm using the newest litening rom and now it only drops maybe once or twice a day so a huge improvement

If it's any consolation, I ran my Virgin SIM over the weekend (just to burn up the data I had to buy for a 1 month) and the same thing happened on stock firmware.
In my case, it would put me in "emergency calls only" mode, saying I wasn't authorized for the network (i.e. it wasn't recognizing my SIM). Tried the usual stuff (re-seating SIM, using the Telus SIM, reboots, cache wipes, network WCDMA/GSM selection etc), and nothing fixed it, it just seemed to come back on its own when it was good and damned ready no matter which SIM I used.
Flashed to "Frankenstein" KG3 on Sunday, and neither the Virgin or Telus SIM has lost network since then, in the same areas. WiFi seems to be working better too.
Hey guys, been up all night and lost several hours of sleep already. I thought someone here might have some insight that can help me.
I have been running CM10.2, decided to go back to a Stock ROM today to update PRL + Profile (Not sure why, just thought I might need it to get connected to new LTE towers in Sacramento).
When booting the MF9 based rom it was asking to do the 'Sprint Hands Free Activation'. It doesn't succeed unless I connect to WiFi. But even if it does succeed, I can't seem to get internet through 3G. After activating I can call phones / text, the 3G icon shows, but no websites work...
On a CM10.2 rom calls and text also work, 3G shows a signal, but no websites work over 3G.
I tried ##72786#, it just forces another 'Sprint Hands Free Activation' with the same symptoms. I tried an Odin of MF9 but it did the same exact thing.
Please help, I can't survive through work without the ability to call/text people. Thanks!
Weird I can successfully ping google.com. So ICMP is getting through, but possibly not UDP/TCP... I am really confused what's going on. There might be a small possibility this is on Sprint's end, but I doubt it.
Wow.. I wasted a whole night on something that is probably Sprint's fault..

Now go get some sleep sir. I'm in Cali too so its 5 am. Lol

Has anyone been experiencing issues with the APN auto switching between 3g/LTE? For the past month or so every cm based or aosp rom I try has issues automatically going in and out of 3g and LTE areas unless I manually go into APN settings and switch it. Very annoying while traveling and last week there was the whole "roaming indicator off" message for service instead of "SPRINT". Any solutions or ROMs anyone know of that don't have this issue?
Edit: I'm using CM11 jflte on Philz recovery with the NAE modem. Maybe more success with MK2?
I'm having the same issue since the cm-11-20140323-NIGHTLY, and I have to do the exact same thing. I have the MK2 modem so I wouldn't worry about switching modems.
haha, yeah. I tried it and same issues. Sad to say, but it looks like I'll be going back to a Touchwiz ROM for now at least.
AOSPs have always been like this for me since epic touch and the GS3.

I think I may have fixed my problem with a combination of two things. I am using CM11 and I'm not responsible if this breaks your phone. First, I did the enable MTU probing shown in this thread (all thanks and credit to Steppnasty):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2556590
But before rebooting after the fix, I went to Access Point Names in Settings, selected the Sprint LTE internet, and deleted the APN that just said Sprint (was the top one in my list). After a reboot, my LTE/3G switching has been working fine. Not sure if this will help anyone here, but it seems to have worked for me.
Is this still an ongoing issue with all 4.4.2 ROM's? have since switched back to CM 10.2.1 until this issue gets resolved. Can't see how anyone could use a ROM that can't automatically switch between network types.
OK folks I seem to have run into an issue here. I've got a @samsung gs4 on Sprint and I've been running CyanogenMod that I originally flashed via the Windows installer months ago. Later something got funky so I manually downloaded the ROM and flashed that through recovery and all was well.
I had just been telling my girlfriend about MIUI ROM since previous to her GS5 was an avid Apple fan. So I got the MIUI ROM straight from their site and flashed it to my GS4 show her.
After a few minutes of showing her around AND trying to let me flash it to her device as she still won't let me root and room her device I recovered back to my previous CM11 ROM.
Since then I haven't had anything but LTE service. Which is OK when your visiting the girlfriend family but I don't have it where I live. So now I can't call, text, or get 3G data.
I've checked my MEID and it matched what was under my battery cover. I read that during flashing that you can life that sometimes but I seen to be good there. I was unaware of this issue previously so I hasn't MEID backup.
Any ideas?

One you need to make sure you are using cwm recovery. That work for me previously and also you need to do this step.
MIUI FAQ:
How can i turn LTE on?
first try in settings:
- mobile networks
- Network type selection
- LTE
or
- Dial "*#*#4636#*#*"
- Phone Information
- change [LTE/GSM] to [LTE/GSM/WCDMA]
It is all on the MIUI thread.

I can Connect to LTE only.
1x, 3g, txt and voice are not available on my phone even while in areas that have service.
It's not an LTE issue since that is the only thing (cellular wise) that is working.
Sprint has no idea, and says to warranty it through Samsung. Problem is I'm rooted and I'm concerned they won't cover it. I'm just trying to work through any possibilities before I resort to sending it off to Samsung.
So I was on USCC with my MXP and I typically leave it in CDMA mode to save battery. The data speeds are pretty similar here between 3G and 4G, so it just made sense to leave it in 3G and have a phone with 5 hours of screen on instead of 3 with 4G. So my phone was in 3G mode when they put the new Verizon sim in the phone, and now it's stuck on 3G. I can toggle LTE and it will come on for just a minute or two, then revert back. I can toggle it, and reboot, and it will come back as 3g. If I use the hidden dialer menu, it will also switch it, but revert back in minutes. It's quite annoying because Verizon here, has few CDMA towers, and doesn't seem to share with USCC like they claimed. There are places where LTE works fine, but 3g doesn't work at all. So I need to be able to switch. Any ideas, thank you for your help in advance!

Lol, yes. I've returned to stock probably 6 times since.
I'm looking for a build prop edit or something that will allow it to go into LTE again - and remain there if I so choose.
I just realized that it has done this since day one. I bet the sim is bad.

What if you force it into LTE only?when I was on Verizon never had problem with this.
It would always revert back to 3g within minutes. BUT, get this. I just got back from Verizon, and I was talking about the phone, and they said if it keeps doing it even after the sim, I'd have to send it in to Motorola. I said I really liked the phone, but the since the marshmallow update I couldn't stream music through any music streaming app. He said, that could be because of the messed up sim. Long story short, I didn't plan on going to the store today, so my phone was set up, highly customized and rooted, with root apps on the phone. He wouldn't let it out of his grubby little hands, kept trying to doing stuff, and didn't have a clue what he was doing. Had to look up how to get into bootloader. He decided to wipe the phone (but I had TWRP), so he asked if it was rooted, and I just said "yes, that's why I bought the unlocked version directly from them, so I could use it my way". He said he thinks LTE wouldn't stay connected, because Verizon probably blocks LTE for rooted devices so that people can't steal extra data.
Anyone else with rooted devices not able to use LTE? I haven't heard of mention of it, so I think he was just blowing smoke.
On a positive note though, he might have been right about the sim causing me to not be able to stream. Because I was able to stream music back to the office. Before, I couldn't stream music on BONE STOCK MM. I'll restore my nandroid when I get home and see if I lose LTE and lose streaming music.
If you have access to a computer with fastboot, this will probably work to restore your network settings and get LTE working:
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot reboot
DONE!
Let us know if you have success.
P.S.: It has absolutely nothing to do with being rooted. My device (and every device I have ever owned) is rooted, and volte, lte, etc all work fine...

I got a new SIM and all is well. I'd wiped those files and flashed the proper ones a number of times. I think it actually ended up being something in Gravity Box though. Because LTE worked until I restored GB, then it switched to 3G. So I just fixed that, and it's been working since.
