Please help with Galaxy S5 questions - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am trying to buy a new Samsung Galaxy S5 on ebay.
All the units for Verizon say Verizon but also say GSM unlocked.
I thought Verizon is CDMA technology.
Is model SM-G900V the correct model number for the model that Verizon supplies to it's customers for USA use?
If I update the GS5 to the latest software will towelroot still root the phone and will the paid Foxfi wifi tether app still work?
Thanks in advance.

While Verizon is CDMA, all the 4G phones are sim-unlocked meaning they support GSM frequencies

Yes

There are multiple methods of updating while still being able to root and tether.

Root Possible on Verizon 5.0.1??

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 on Verizon (SCH-i545) running Android 5.0.1. I cannot find a way to root after searching and searching threads and online! Please help!! Would love to root this phone.

Did you look in the Verizon S4 forums? That is where you want to go for answers to your questions, as this is the international S4 forum, and we don't have a locked bootloader to prevent root.
Looked there, but didn't find anything. Maybe will post this there, thanks for your help. Can you explain locked bootloader or send me a link of a thread that does? I don't understand the difference of the international.

Actually I see that someone moved this thread to this category... I posted it elsewhere, what should I do? Noob, sorry!

Go back to your opening post and report it to the mods. In the text box that appears simply tell them it needs to be moved to the Galaxy S4 Verizon forums. They'll take care of it.
With a locked (i.e. encrypted) bootloader, rooting cannot be performed and custom ROMs cannot be installed. AT&T and Verizon are the largest of the carriers that do this, and they claim to do this in order to ensure consistent performance of the device on their networks. The reality is that they simply don't want you getting rid of their bloatware or working around their other restrictions by rooting and installing custom ROMs. International devices don't come with locked bootloaders, and customization is easy. However, an international phone in the US doesn't get LTE due to the international device not supporting the frequencies used in the United States.
In the US, if LTE is important, a T-Mobile device is the best option even though the device never received an upgrade to Android 5.x. But if you take it abroad, LTE will not function due to it not supporting international LTE frequencies. To the best of my knowledge, phones that support both sets of frequencies have yet to be released.
Thanks for your helpful reply! So... My provider is Verizon, if I get a "T-mobile phone" will it still work on Verizon's network and he rootable? There is some difference in Verizon and AT&T I know because Verizon and Sprint are CDMA and AT&T and others are GSM networks right? I'm not sure what all those mean, but I didn't think they were interchangeable. I thought T-mobile was GSM, but maybe I'm wrong...

You'd have to leave Verizon if you want a phone you can modify. Verizon and Sprint are CDMA networks, while AT&T and T-Mobile are GSM networks. GSM is the global standard. A CDMA device won't work on a GSM network and vice versa.

Does the unlocked or at&t priv variants work on Verizon?

Just curious if any of you know if the unlocked or at&t version of the priv has the cdma radios to run on Verizon. I've been seeing the unlocked and at&t versions around $300 but the Verizon version is still like $500 and totally not worth it since I'd be paying a $250 premium on my nexus 6 for a phone with the only real updrade being a slideout keyboard.
No. The Verizon Priv has the Radios for it's Verizon service ontop of the Global GSM ones for other GSM Carriers Worldwide. The Unlocked GSM Priv either physically is missing them or its disabled by software at the Request of Verizon. If it's disabled there is a chance it could be enabled if the Priv ever does get rooted, something that Won't happen else it tarnishes BB's image, or BB enables it. And that's if its there. But it most likely isn't as the Only Major Carriers that use CDMA are Verizon and Sprint.

Does this mean that an unlocked VZW Priv would run correctly with an AT&T sim? 4g LTE?

Will this Galaxy s5 work on gsm networks/

Hi there friends , i see on amazon.com that there are new galaxy s5 verizon phones that are unlocked and for only 200$. So after i broke my s5 sprint variant i am planing to buy one on verizon. For sprint there was a lil apk that was unlocking sprint phones with only one click, so my question is will i be able to make my galaxy s5 verizon phone to work on any gsm network ?
Here is the link from amazon with the s5 i want to buy

Anyone got any info?
I've used my G900V with a couple different MVNOs on ATT and it also worked on T-Mobile. It will get LTE if you have the coverage for it. Should mention that I did mess around some with unlocking bands but I don't know if that was necessary in the end. Here are a couple band unlocking threads if interested:

The Verizon version on Marshmallow is more difficult to work with than the Sprint version when it comes to rooting and unlocking the bootloader.
I've used a carrier unlocked g900v for about a year now it works on at&t networks and t-mobile networks just fine I get edge through 4g lte service connectivity on cm based roms
Bootloader unlock method by getex works on kitkat through Mm firmware and only Cid 15 devices can get bootloader unlock oh and check out Groupon for carrier unlocked Refurbished g900v there normally cheaper than amazon for Refurbished phones

Verizon and Sprint model?

I was looking at getting a used blackberry keyone to use on the sprint network. As far as I see, they're both model BBB100-3. I believe the Verizon version is unlocked. Does this mean however that Sprint will allow it on their network?
Thanks!

Which S7 Edge models have an unlockable bootloader AND work on Verizon?

Recently bought an S7 Edge, G935F. Lots of stuff on here about rooting/flashing custom ROMs, and I successfully did but am now under the impression it won't work on the Verizon network due to different basebands, something or other. Someone in another thread mentioned that it *will* work with a nano SIM card but Verizon's online checker thing says it won't work on their network for whatever reason.
Can anyone confirm it would? Or .. wouldn't? Again, G935F.
Also, are there any other S7 Edge (or newer Galaxy models) otherwise that have an unlockable bootloader that WILL work on Verizon?
Kudos in advance!
The "V" variant is Verizon Wireless one. These ones are GSM. I think LTE is interoperable, but lower standards are different.

Lower standards being 2g and 3g?

Yes, but don't quote me on it. I think you can't just pop a sim card in and have service, you would need to call VW and have it attached to your account. And if the system doesn't like your ESN, you're SOL.[emoji2373]

No, if you want to have custom ROM, switch to GSM provider (T-mobile, AT&T wireless...)

Verizon wireless is a CDMA carrier. CDMA carriers require CDMA specific devices and the only Galaxy devices made CDMA are for the American market (all bootloader locked). If I were you I'd switch to T-Mobile or At&t (both GSM carriers i.e. fully compatible with international unlockable variants).

Yeah, I've gathered that there's really only a handful of Verizon variants with unlockable bootloaders. Currently looking for a new Verizon variant I can flash a custom ROM on. Google Pixel models look decent, but I'm going to look around a bit more.
