Hello folks,
I've been using a few builds of ParanoidAndroid on my 16gb N7 (grouper) for quite some time.
Last update, thou, has broken my tab's NFC. Whatever NFC signal I try to use (tag, N4, Gnex), nothing happens, not even an error message. I tried several restoration and full wipes with no success and then decided I might as well go back to stock since 4.2.2 seems to fix most issues I had with it.
So I flashed the latest factory image, with a clean install (manually erased boot, system, userdata, etc. thru fastboot) and the problem is still here ! I performed 2 more factory reset without any success.
So before I return my tab (and that will be annoying cause it's probably gonna take them a month before it comes back), is there a way that would help me check if the problem is hardware or sofware related ? If it's software, there has to be a way I can fix it myself, so I won't bother send it to be repaired.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks a lot to anyone.
(and sorry if this question already exists, I couldn't find a thread about it).
You've already eliminated the probability of it being software.

Powerdown Video
Hey there,
I was finally able to install this rom after a long Sunday of learning and failing and finally succeeding late last night. My question is in regards to the powerdown video that is supposed to play in the case of power loss. Is it supposed to play every time disconnect my nexus 7 from power? I haven't installed it in my car yet but I've been playing with it and it doesn't do anything when I disconnect it from the power source. Anything I might be missing? I have the following options turned on: Fixed install mode, fast charge in host mode, and firm sleep. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Need some help
Running Autodroid 1.2
Issue #1 Everything seemed to be running great rebooted on Sunday and now it no longer recognizes my usb charging cable or Otg cable. So power down can not take place as well as charging . What do you recommend? Should I re-flash the kangaroo kernel that is on the 1st page?
Issue # 2 I am using a usb hub with a charging port for my setup. I want to use a behringer UCA 202 dac . How should I set this up?
Any help on either would be great.
Newbie Autodroid summary and Nexus 7 car solutions in general
I apologize if this is the wrong place to post, but I'm trying to do a Nexus 7 in dash head unit replacement and I have some questions.
First, a little about myself. I'm an Android (and XDA) newbie, first post, but I have some programming experience (C and some assembly). I am rapidly learning about Kernels, ROMs, etc. I try to learn as much on my own as I can so I won't be a pain here. I know wiring, and am an electrical engineer.
My problem is this; I need a solution to allow the Nexus 7 to OTG charge, or maybe it's possible to use the side dock connector for charging? If I OTG charge, I read that Autodroid may not support that, but Oxydo does? I could really use a source of information (youtube video etc.) so I could learn how to make this work.
And, for that matter, how to program my Nexus. I've seen how to root it, and I think I can do that, but then should I flash it with Oxydo kernel and then Autodroid ROM?
Any help would be greatly appreciate. I'm trying to get this up for myself and for my 17 year old son's truck. Also, thanks for all your sharing of code and help!
Autodroid supports Otg charging as is.
What I would do is go to the play store and download MuliRom manager.
This will make it easy to set up MultiRom.
Multirom lets you install and uninstall multiple roms without messing with your stock rom.
Hope this helps
USB issues
Ok I have been running autodroid for a few weeks. So far it is good. I am having a few issues though with it.
Has anyone been having issues with charging since adding this ROM. Although it is charging it doesn't indicate that, so otg doesn't work. It can't see any usb attached items and such.
My setup includes a Behringer usb dac uca202. Although I plug the dac in the hub (sometimes without the hub) and reboot the devices from off I still get not response; the dac light does not light up, sound still comes out of the tablet speakers. Can Anyone using this setup help me figure this out or at least put me on the correct path
I want to add a backup cam to my system, but there appears to some real issues with this setup. Any help or advise would be great. I want to be able to have it come on as soon as i put the car into reverse

Thanks! That's an interesting idea. I may try that. Are there any disadvantages to this approach besides the extra storage space (which seems like it wouldn't be that big of a deal?)
I just rooted the device, so it's fresh and ready.
On the other hand, I found someone with Timur's ROM, so I have two options now. Autodroid seems a little more up to date, but I'm not sure. Maybe it's just a preference?
Thanks for your help. I know a lot about a lot of things, but in this area, I feel a little like I"m walking around blind! I'm just trying to learn as much as I can.
I don't see any disadvantages and the storage space is minimal.
With MultiRom manager you can also remove the rom as easily as you installed it.
It has a multi boot feature on startup so you can run your stock rom or any other roms that you have installed.
Autodroid is a rom and and Timurs is a kernel. With the Autodroid rom you will have a lot of features which are geared toward an in car installation.
If you decide to use Autodroid don't install it like they show in the op.
There is an easier way to do it using MultiRom.
Advice please
Can I plug in a FIIO D3 into a powered Anker USB hub. I have tried 2 behringer UCA 202 and both connect but no sound from either. I have read the USB ROM tutorial and I know that I must turn the devices off them mount the dac and turn the device back on, but still I get no sound. Help me

That sounds really cool.
I know Autodroid is a rom, but I thought Timurs is a kernel and a rom?
Autodroid can be had at the play store if you sign up to be a tester. I wonder if this is a different version, or I guess somehow it's changed into an app?
If I use multirom, how should I install autodroid?
Thanks so much for your help!

The first thing is to get MultiRom Manager installed and working and then we will go from there.
When you have installed the app and opened it you will see a box that says install/update.
If the first two boxes match what is in the status box above this you are ok, if not check these boxes.
If you see a warning in the status box about the kexex hardboot patch, check the third box and in the drop down menu pick which version of Android you have,
If you aren't sure of which version you have, on your tablet go to setting about tablet and it will show the version.
Tap install and follow the directions.
When this is susessful we will go to the next step
Is there any way to make navigation bar bigger ? I need it to be two times bigger.
What should the ROM look like when installed correctly? This is my first time doing a custom ROM and it appears to be installing correctly but the OS is not any different it seems. It just has Apollo and SuperSu. No additional features anywhere it seems. (Nexus 7 2012 Wifi)
It says....
Kernel Version
3.1.10-kangaroo

I rooted and installed CWM. Downloaded the ROM for the first post, wiped dalvik, wiped cache, cleared everything, and then installed the ROM from zip. It doesn't appear to be working unless I am just missing a step. I tried using my new Behringer UCA222 with my OTG Y cable. UCA222 has power, tablet charges, sound plays from tablet speakers....
Any help to get this working out be nice. I don't know what I am doing wrong.
I have noticed a problem with power event manager!
I have disabled waking the screen on power because i can wake it up anytime using my remote control.
The problem is that if my screen is off and there is a power loss then power event manager sets airplane mode but the screen is switched on and stays on.
Anyone elese is having the same problem?
FI Problem
Hello,
i have a Strange Problem with my autodroid System.
In the Power Settings, it is not possible to set up the FI Option.
Everytime i change these setting, it goes back to off.
Because of this Problem, i checked the Autodroid installation an did a new, fresh install.
Changed the OTG Cable and the Power Adapter.
Nothing changed this
I tried again an older 4.2.2 Rom, here workes everithing perfecly with the same OTG and Power Adapter.
Because of the 4.4 Android, i would most likly use Autodroid.
But without a solution for this Problem, i could not use it in my Car.
And i read here, that other Users didnt have the Same Problem.
What did i do Wrong here?
Best Regards
X2 on a bigger navigation panel¡
I am having a problem with everything on the usb hub being restarted everytime I turn off and turn back on. So it has to rescan media, and i have to accept dialogs to use the FM tuner because it doesent remember it used to be there. Is it because i am using stickmount? I have it in locked mode, and I thought thats what it was there for...?
Edit: fixed the issue, I didn't realize the Rom had built in functions for mounting the external drives.
Rear View Cam
Hi,
I posted this in the ROM-thread before, but got informed to post it here in the Q&A thread instead, so it's kind of a double post.
Tried to search the thread but didn't really find the answer, but does this ROM still rely on Carcam as the app to show the video feed from the Easycap, or did someone actually write a new app?
Love the work on this ROM, as I loved the Kangarom before it. This is going in the car, if I can just get the shaky Carcam to actually work after a deep sleep as well...
nexus 7
Hello all, i have been doing a lot of reaseach about autodroid 1.2 and nexus 7. my nexus 7 (2012) is running 4.4.4, i finally got it unlocked and rooted. Than i downloaded autodroid 1.2 and when i went into recovery mode and started the install, and it gave me an error mess saying E:Error in /sdcard/0/autodroid.zip (i shortened the file name) (status 7) Installation aborted. when i restarted the nexus 7 it give me error on bluthooh and clock. any help would be great. I have done a lot of research. Maybe i missed something. thanks in advance.
Trouble Installing Autodroid 1.2 on Nexus 7
So I've been attempting to install Autodroid 1.2 on my Nexus 7 Grouper, but I can't seem to get the bugger going. The tablet originally had Lollipop (5.0) installed.
So here is what I did:
1) Installed the stock 4.4.4 ROM (Build Number KTU84P)
2) Installed Bootloader 4.23
3) Installed TWRP 2.7.1.1
4) Installed SuperSU (rooted the tablet).
5) Performed a normal wipe.
6) Installed Autdroid 1.2 for Grouper
After doing the above, and going to the "about tablet" setting, it displays the following:
Kernel version: 3.1.10-kangaroo
Build Number: KTU84P
So it looks as though the kernel installed fine, but the ROM itself doesn't look the part.
A few more things to note, OTG seems to be kind of funky. I can insert a USB drive and mount it using Stickmount, but the drive doesn't show up under Settings->Storage.
Oddly enough, charging with OTG works.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Hi guys, can some one explain me how to wake up my nexus after disconnecting from charger?? What should happened is power event manager should wake up n7 when charger plug in but nothing happening so when i press button on side to turn it on it will on but system doesnt recognize charging, but when i plug same charger on working screen then everything is fine im using normal cable not otg, is it a problem that its not otg?
Hi everyone,
Until recently I've been using a KitKat based ROM and I was pretty OK with how my NOTE 3 SM-9005 was performing. However, a few days ago I decided to try a Lollipop based ROM and the problems started. I had similar problems with 3 different ROMs with great reviews. My battery went, for example, from 100% to 15% in ONE HOUR while streaming from YouTube. It never did that before. Also, It sometimes gives a "system stopped responding" error or something like that (it's like the equivalent of explorer.exe crashing on Windows) and after a few seconds it starts working again. Other system apps crash as well every now and then and sometimes the phone just decides to restart by itself.
I initially used Philz recovery and after the initial errors I switched to TWRP and started from scratch. I completely wiped my system internal space before flashing and, of course, I wiped dalvik cache and cache before and after flashing the ROM. I only used recommended gapps. Also, I did not restore any system apps. I started from scratch after the installation and the problem is the same.
To be more exact, I tries flashing so far the following ROMS, experiencing more or less the same problems on each:
temasek's UNOFFICIAL CM12.1
AryaMod V5.4 TW Lollipop Official BOB6
BlissPop 3.5 Unofficial
I also tried the Dirty Unicorns v9.4 ROM from the Original Android Development section but this one went on a reboot loop initially after the first restart so it never really even installed.
At this point I believe I might have done something that I should't have, but it seems strange because this is not the first time I am flashing a new ROM and I never had problems in the past. Also, my NOTE 3 SM-9500 did not have any problem on my previous KitKat ROM. Did I miss something? Should I have used another kernel? If I understood correctly, the ROMs come with a recommended kernel already. If this is not the problem, what could it be? Should I have done any additional thing before flashing a Lolipop ROM after using a KitKat ROM?
I now installed an app for trying to find out what exactly drains my battery but this is not the only problem. The system itself is really unstable.
I would really appreciate some help, suggestions, or opinions. I really don't know what else should I be doing at this point.
Thanks a lot!
Apparently is the media server eating all that battery (currently 68%).
I will format the SD card hoping this fixes the issue.....but could this have something to do with the system error and, sometimes, restarts?
Well I really don't know what to say! A lot of people report battery problems on 5.0 just because they didn't wipe the phone while coming from KK! But you did, so that's no go. Battery life on LP is much better than KK for me, at least 20% better if not more. And I didn't face any system crashing issues either! Don't really know what's going on with you mate.
Someone suggested that maybe I shoud update the bootloader and modem to a Lollipop version but I really couldn't find any info on how to do that.
Formatting the SD card just slightly reduced the battery drain. The phone is still discharging like crazy. Any suggestion on how to update the bootloader and modem?
Thank you.
Hi all, I am new here. I was referred by a friend who knows more about this than I do. I think I understand how to get fastboot and TWRP, so that is taken care of already. Now the problem with my OP2 running OxygenOS latest version, everything stock, is that it freezes up after unlocking, and the whole phone is just terribly throttled at this slow speed for a long time. All inputs are extremely delayed, and touchscreen is nearly unusable after the lag begins. There are so far two temporary fixes I found: 1) reboot phone 2)wait it out/keep unlocking until it doesn't lag. I also have been unable to make a copy of my internal storage via USB, as it gives unspecified error during copying. And lastly, the screen dims on its own sometimes at random while anything related to auto-brightness should be off. Fortunately, I was able to make a hard copy of my internal storage thru some wifi file manager apps. Now my friend pointed out that my phone's issues could be related to a bad kernel. To remedy this, he told me it would be good to flash a new kernel onto my phone. I considered changing roms to CM, but apparently a lot of functionality is lost when doing this. He told me that I could retain Oxygen OS while flashing a new kernel, but I am not sure how to do this. I came across a post in the android dev section regarding hydrogen os, and I read that it performs better than Oxygen OS, but has minor issues of its own. I am interested in flashing this rom/kernel (I am not sure which is which). Here is the link in that section of the forum I found http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-2/development/rom-h2os-hydrogen-os-ota-clean-stable-t3195636. I see it says that it is working on Indian OP2, and running stock rom and stock kernel. Does this mean that my north american OP2 won't be able to get this rom? Also if it is the stock kernel, does that mean it is the same kernel as the one currently installed on my phone? Anyways, if anyone knows about my phone's problems, or has a way to fix it let me hear it please. Thank you!

I had the same issue with O2. I changed kernels and the problems persisted. A also word the device and started from scratch through fastboot and the issues persisted. I ended up on hydrogen and I've never looked back. There is a flashable zip in that thread for the newest full version .11. Follow the steps wipe everything besides internal storage, flash the full v11 zip and boot the phone. After this reboot to recovery (power and volume down). Flash the gapps and super su zip if you want root. After this you should be able to add your Google account and be good to go. One thing I did was remove all Chinese apps and the stock launcher. I use trebuchet launcher from cm 12.1. Phone runs incredibly smooth now. I recently started running AK kernel as well. The oxygen version works with hydrogen. I have been averaging between 5 and 7 hours of SOT for battery with up to 8 if I'm just watching videos. Hope this helps. The ROM is a little simpler and the notifications settings are different. But you can set apps to have priority notifications and they function similar to oxygens notifications at that point. Everything is in the thread if you have any questions I'll try to help you.
Hi all,
Sorry for one more thread. But I have no idea how to fix my Nexus. It freezes from time to time, no reaction at all, closing of application can take one minute or so. However it can work properly ~15..30 mins. And then freeze again.
I'e done many times:
1. clean flash of stock 4.4.4, 5.0.2, 5.1 with fastboot
2. cache and dalvik wipe from TWRP
3. fstrim
Maybe I don't know other tricks how to fix or at least to understand what's happen? Thanks in advance.
Depends much on the applications you are using and how much memory they are allocating. Having many applications running in background and synching, using Google Chrome for browsing, etc. does not work well on this old device ... nevertheless the new ROMs based on Android 7.x provide a better performance, but also there you will reach a point where the system is not as responsive as you probably wish.
No many applications. Just stock ROM, Chrome with 3-4 tabs.
