Hello there. I decided to start this thread as a cool dude who wants to help users with legacy devices. I have a little experience in APK reverse-engineering, so I applied manuall optimization per some common apps and games listed here. I don't change anything in app itself - I don't modify code or graphics.
"Optimized" sounds good, but what did I exactly do:
Rebuild apps with latest available tools - apktool, smali/backsmali, etc.
Recompiled apps with GB framework - all apps and games listed here are compatible with GingerBread+ ROMs.
HDPI graphics optimization - removed all dublicate recources for non-HDPI resolution to make app more lighter.
Libs optimization - removed all libs exept for ARMv7.
PNG optimization - made all graphics lighter and less RAM hungry by using optipng.
UI animations speedup - speaks for itself.
Uncompressed resources - to not to waster your CPU time on apk compression.
APK zipalign - to decrease RAM consumption by 4-byte alligning of apk.
Removed secondary .dex files - which were developed for KitKat ART machine which we dont use, to make apk more lightweight.
Note:Some games were not uncompressed because of huge (100+mb) apk file size.
What about requirements? Well there are no any strict ones. Preferrable your device should be with HDPI display resolution (for ex. 480x850) and with ARMv7 CPU. Else. I signed all apks with opensource test-key so, most probably you won't be able to update such optimized app from market in future, but don't worry - just keep visiting this thread. I will try to provide weekly updates.
Q: Why apk is SO huge in weight?
A: Dude, read this thread again, I told ya that all apps are uncompressed.
Q: What if I need to use updated app from market?
A: Then simply remove optimized app and install ususal one or wait for update on this thread.
Q: Why there is no facebook in optimized app-list
A: There are several apps which I cannot recompile properly because of lack of the framework resources. This is kind of their security. Currently I can't do heavy-duty optimization on theese apps:
- YouTube
- Facebook
- Facebook messenger
- WhatsApp
- Skype
Q: Bro, this is awesome!
A: Feed me. :good:

Very Nice bro :good:
Can you optimized latest Chrome and Hangouts?
Could the following be included if possible.
● ES File Explorer
● WiFi Analyser
● QuickPic
You may be creating a rod for your own back if these apps are updated with any rapidity.
That aside, thank you for all the effort you're putting into this.
Update:
Installed AnTuTu and Opera Mini and both installed fine.
On both of these applications, I uninstalled the Google Play Store version first before installing the optimized version.
I'm using an Xperia X10i with X10S v9 by Tof37 and DooMKernel.
Can you post a tutorial on how to "optimize" apps like you did? I want to do things myself, cause there're some specific apps I want to "optimize"... So... Yeah... Please?
Edit: Or do you grant requests?
gmail maps office working
viber antutu crashing
Crashes may be dues to non-HDPI screen resolution..
Apps and games list updated.
Thank you
Great thing fera.... I will try every single app
Speedtest.net v2 is the best for GB 2.3 devices.
Used a few apps and they work well.
Now, here's a thing.
Google Play Store Speedtest.net version 3+
Android Speedtest (speedtest.net) has been upgraded to version 3.2.6 and since it moved to version 3+ it's never given accurate results.
It seems that Speedtest will work on 'modern' phones/OS as they have dual core/quad core. i.e. better CPUs than most GB 2.3.3 phones.
I have tested speedtest v2 on GB 2.3 (Xperia X10i) phone and it continually gives a good indication of the available bandwidth.
Speedtest v3 on the same phone normally only shows approx. half the true available bandwidth.
So if one could 'optimize' Speedtest v2 (I have v2.0.9) this restricts further upgrades and gives the best results.
I'm just asking cause I'm to slack to do it myself.
Thanks for your great work.
Hi, some device doesn't run on unicorn power but still use horse power, yet they may have higher resolution, if a specific request ask for an app to be optimized but keep resources for some higher resolutions, would you accept it ?

i can't find google maps in your download folder.
An update on new apps would be nice... Or an automated system..
hey fera nice to see you again, can you take a look to the game contract killer sniper?
i miss my old Xperia X10 and your roms.
Have a nice day mate.
could you make a tutorial of how to do this? Perhaps someone would be kind to do an automation app for this Would be amazing!

Hello guys,
I modified several files so you can play without lag in gta 3. The radios were disabled you can turn them back by renaming them (against a loss of performance of course). This does not change the game atmosphere
It work with all the android devices but I have to create this one for the galaxy S.
I created an archive
Step one : Backup your actual audio folder Android\data\com.rockstar.gta3\files\GTA3
Step two : Delete your audio folder
Step three : Just extract it in Android\data\com.rockstar.gta3\files\GTA3
Feel free to send me a return
Sincerely Kwee

Tweaks to make yours games more smooth
- Download galaxy tuner and apply my settings in memory manager, you must to be root(Snapshot 1)
- Kill unnecessary services, services leave only these services (see Snapshot 2)
- Put this configuration in gta 3 (only works for version 1.3) (see Snapshot 3)
- Freeze the following applications with titanium backup or app freezer : Allshare, ChocoEuKor (wallpaper), Swype (or keyboard samsung if you do not use it), CoolEuKor, 1.0.0 Error, Print via Bluetooth, Maps, MTP application, RoseEuKor, VPN Services, SNS 1.0, 1.3 Talk
- Overclock your phone at 1,2 Ghz(safely) or 1,4 Ghz(much faster but risky)(see Snapshot 4)
- Use Io Scheduler "Noop"
- Use a bigmem kernel version(break 720p and front cam) but with that i've no slowdown(I would do a video to show you the gameplay on my phone)
A higher LMK or a lower LMK makes your game slow, for me this is the best configuration.
It depends on how many applications you have and the number of services that run in the background.
If you except freezing after 1-2 min on Soc Qualcomm(I think about the i9001, Xperia Ray and other), it's a adreno issue i have not found a fix
If you play on PoverVR chipset, there are no worries

V2 is Out ! Same experience with and without sound !!
After some changes I got to get an audio folder rather optimized to achieve the same performance (approximately that without sound). Somes sounds was missing but this does not ruin the game experience.
I uploaded this on mediafire.

[Gta 3]Audio Performance Tweak [V4] Lags demystified
I recently installed Gta 3 on a Xperia Ray, it worked perfectly on it (Xperia ray Snapdragon MSM 8255 to 1 GHz). I was a little surprised then I decided to copy the data on my phone and go through Chainfire 3D plugin Qualcomm). The game worked better than my old data but lacked a lot of textures). So I modified the data by adding images to PowerVR chipset. Results: No more lag with all audio. I do not really understand why I'm trying to dissect the data to see why. Knowing that the game has been optimized Xperia play I think the code is less heavy for its chipsets. Other Soc PowerVR are carrying a dual core. This is my theory. If anyone has more info is welcome. I'm currently uploading the "optimized" archive.
Awesome. Thanks dude

Remount script for data audio on External SD
This is a tweak for those who have an external memory card, the script can raise the audio file Gta 3 on the sd card. It allows you to empty your memory a bit but mostly frees your internal map of a load. This allows for an even smoother gta 3. I will soon make a list of all the tweaks which make the phone more responsive.
To run the script you need a kernel that supports init.d if it does you can follow these instructions
- Make a copy of your audio file (/ mnt/sdcard/Android/data/com.rockstar.gta3/files/GTA3/audio)
- Copy the audio file on your external card (path / mnt / sdcard / external_sd)
- Copy my script in / system / etc / init.d with Root explorer or file manager
- Restart your phone
The audio file will be physically Gta 3 on your external card but the system will think the content is still in / mnt/sdcard/Android/data/com.rockstar.gta3/files/GTA3/audio
nice work, will try this one later today
which rom are you using for playing gta3?
Just a rom XXJVU changed with my tweaks and devoid of the bloatwares.
I understood why the Xperia ray cache / play is faster. The game has been optimized to take less memory (The Xperia Play has 512 mb of ram). In Gta 3 there are two factors slowdowns: audio and memory.
The Xperia Play cache is optimized to take less ram, that eliminates one factor. This leaves the audio (the audio code of Gta 3 is really poorly optimized). By combining my two "tweaks", this allows a game much more fluid and enjoyable.
i'm not sure if there's any difference between the original files and the files that you provided because i couldnt get the wifi to download the original files.
so i just put your folder into my sd card and the game worked. not as smooth as i'd like but it's good enough.
i just downloaded the v3 pack to replace the v4 audio pack because im still getting horrendous lags whenever a sound plays in the game.
thanks for your effort, buddy.
May I ask how big is the performance boost gained by using the adreno cache?
This is really awesome!
Aside from the boost in FPS, graphic improvements such as car lights and traffic lights were also included. It's really smoother than the original files.
One question though, why is the game files from V4 a hundred megabytes larger than the original game files for my Xperia Play? Did you add some other things besides the performance tweaks? Were the audio files the only ones you manipulated or are there other unlisted manipulations you did? I'm being paranoid, please help me clear my mind. I don't want strange things happening to my phone or my Xperia PLAY optimized games. Thanks!
I tried V4 on a i9000 with cm9 kang. The run much faster but it lacks a lot of textures.
how can i fix it?
I had the files downloaded already, didn't want to unzip all the things from v4, so i only changed the audio with v3...and wow...it wasn't running this nice even on Gamerz rom (JVU)...i'm on Simply ICS 2.9 right now, glitch kernel v14 b6...everything is perfect...no lags at all...overclocked to 1.4 GHz
I'm glad i found this thread...
Hello people, first thank you very much matyas69 for sharing with us your work with sounds and creating those 4 packs.
I managed to install GTA 3 on ZTE Skate and now it runs smooth on it the only problem i have it only runs smooth if I delete audio file (turn sound off) so I tryed to use your v3 sound pack but it still runs bad with it.
For budget phone like ZTE Skate GTA 3 can work with sound only if it has just basics.
So i would like if you can make sound pack with only:
Car sound when it hit something, tire sound
Weapons sound, movie voices sound
Turn off:
All background sound
Siren sound (it is on too often)
Engine Sound (it is on too often)
Pedestrians comments sound
Or if I am asking too much can you give me advice how i can myself turn all those sounds off. There is much ppl with budget phone who would like pack like that also ppl who like extreme performance so it would be good to have extreme performance sound pack
Thanks in advance
Thx

FC in GTA III
I have a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant running on 2.2Froyo(Toxic Rom & DMZ Kernel)
Even games like 9mm & Asphalt 6 run fine on my device, with overclock(in rare cases)
But I have installed GTA III v1.3 and took Titanium Backup.
Then I downloaded SD data from some site. I have two versions of the same(So basically my first question is that is SDcard data size specific to a version, and as long as it is higher it shouldn't be a problem rite?)
And then I copied audio from your v1.4 Sddata zip.
Now, I have tried with different launchers - GO, Zeam and killing tasks or boosting memory ,etc.
But when I click on GTA III, after I accept EULA and it asks me to download data(I press back button)
and then press home key.
then when I click GTA III from notifications, it opens up and then after two vibrations or so, it closes itself, without any error message(like this process stopped responding).
I know this is independent of your audio tweaks.
But I have tried numerous times, yet i can't get this game working on my device. Please help !!
nice i try v3 and worked amazing but now il try to test v4 and apparently part2 went offline, can reupload please?
Nice work!
Hello everybody...XD
I've been trying the "new" port of Cyanogenmod 9 (ICS), from the following topic:
[DEV][WIP] Ice Cream Sandwich Port (AOSP/CM9)
And after some weeks of dayly usage of build 4 with Update 1 i've decided to make a review of it.
The original post has a list of working and not working features, so first of all i'm going to comment and complete the ROM issues:
Bluetooth: It's not possible even to turn it on, so if you really use the bluetooth, forget it.
Wifi AP: The native tool doesn't work at all. The ROM includes the app Wifi-Tether, through this app you are able to turn on the Wifi-AP, other devices can see and connect but that's all, you can't actually use the internet .
Calendar: In the raw ROM it's not possible to syncronize your google calendar account, it can be solved by installing the GAPPS: link GAPPS...Thanks Halco (it also fixes a google+ app issue)
Camera(Photo): You can took photos but you can see them only after they are saved, through the gallery app, i mean the camera app has no live preview of the photo, only a black screen.
Camera(Video): You can't record videos period.
Videos: You can't watch videos, even youtube videos, youtube crashes when it attempts to reproduce the video.
Games: Forget every application which demands high processing .
Issues I've faced during usage:
Sometimes the phone crashes when you remove the power cable;
You cannot natively sync your facebook contacts (I've used this appfacebook contact-Sync.=P);
Sometimes all of a sudden the phone freezes, and you need to reebot it ;
It can take a bit to open the App Draw if you join the Apps and Widget Tabs, if you face this slowness go to Settings->Laucher->App Draw and uncheck Join with Apps;
The Data Usage (a native tool that keeps a track of your data usage) doesn't work;
Those were all the problems i had with this ROM, but all the other amazing Ice Cream Sandwich features are fully operative, so if you just like me don't use those missing tools go ahead it is a legendary SO with dozen of little features that make all the difference, all with an smooth interface...XD
Well this review is my attempt of a useful way to say thank you to the Developers...
Nice review, and yes you can post market links, just not links to warez websites.

i've just installed...soon I post my experience
actually you should use latest openFIMG update with arakmars G3mod kernel. it improves overall performance and data usage feature works with the new kernel.
general assumption: when doing a review you might want to say some positive stuff about the ROM as you only said which features don't work. overall performance is good on ICS though trebuchet launcher consumes a lot of CPU power (but it's version 0.1, so there will be improvements anyway). there's no word on battery life, too, which is quite good for ICS.
[edit:] oops I was to slow
Good review, but to many problems,i will instal it in the future,ICS is amazing,
I like to add some more bugs

I like to add some more bugs,
- During the call when you press any key to interact with IVR the phone call goes to mute.
- Phone became very slow when you using is continuously.
A lot of faults but not much said about the features that are working so just thought I would go a bit further....
Widgets in appdraw
You can now view all widgets in the app draw without having to add them to the home screen, this is a staple feature of ICS and has been ported beautifully, it gives you a grid size in the draw too so you can see sizes.
Folders on homescreens
You can pile apps ontop of eachother to create folders so you can have all your messaging apps (whatsapp, fbmessenger, smmsmms) in one place. just click on it and it will open the folder to make your choice. it makes finding things quickly very simple, especially if you have alot of apps.
Apex Launcher
Apex launcher is a replacement launcher for trebuchet and helps run the new OS butter smooth. it also a little more customisable and user friendly and runs the best on this port. if you want fast and smooth, download it and push it to system/app for all functions
notification bar
the notification pull down bar on the port is alot more customisable than anything on GB or earlier OS's. add a weather option to it for a really sexy look.
Once installing the new gapps, they work absolutely fine, still a few syncing issues but all in all a decent attempt, the calendar especially is cleaner and more user friendly than previous builds.
extended power menu is working brilliantly, can go straight into download or recovery mode which i believe is now touch screen if i remember correctly... (please correct if wrong) and connecting to wifi is fast and reliable. There are many more things that really do show a huge amount of promise in this build, it is clear that given a little time and help with resources, these dev's are going to pull off what i personally didnt think possible. ICS ON G3!! D
Did some testing
I tested a view tastes of CM9. Was quite happy with the latest builds, however discovered a small issue that makes it a bit difficult to operate. I will describe it, hope this helps the developers.
First: Wifi, data is all working quite well, calender worked as I needed.
After flashing the rom CM9 systems work fine for about a day, after that when the phone goes into sleep you can wake it up, however the digitizer does not show any sign of life.
The screen however is fully functional, buttons operate.
After some random button pressing the digitizer migt start working, sometimes a reboot is the only solution.
However after a reboot sometimes it operates for half an hour and shows up problems with the digitizer again. I had this on both the G3 phones I owe (use one for testing).
Why it operates the first day after flashing without a problem is a little weird.
For the moment I'm back on Dutchmod 5.3

I don't think gapps has odex and deodex apps
It is the ROM which is odexed and deodexed.
It works for icsforg3 build 4 so you can install it on any odex ROM

Hi folks. I'm sorry to trouble everyone again.
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT A DEV and I AM NOT A COOK.
I want to know, is there a way, where I can say take a custom ROM, and then modify the existing parts so that i can reduce the RAM footprint.
I have no experience using any ROMS except Ilyaa's CM10.1 custom ROM which he cooked up. Even on stock gingerbread i only toyed for it for a day after i bought it and immediately followed the instructions and did a custom firmware (I even had a thread about it because the first time i did it i accidently deleted /boot)
What I had in mind is to somehow replace bloated apps with apps that uses FAR lesser RAM footprint.
For example, the Trebuchet launcher is fine, but I wanted something more minimalistic so i went for Lightning Launcher and also Zeam Launcher (TagHome launcher is not available for 4.2, sadly)
What i discovered was Smart Launcher uses about 16MB of RAM. Lightning initially only used 3.1MB, (then somehow bloated up to 20MB even when i did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING) and ZEAM launcher is hovering around 15MB.
I am not sure if this is ROM related issue, but I want to ask users of other ROMS (especially the custom ICS ROMs like MIUI and DZO AURORA since its considered the best of all U8800 custom ROMs) if you can reduce the footprint?
Truthfully, I have tried GREENIFY and also another memory app that another forumer has recommnded for setting minimum values, but i still keep getting ONLY 20-40MB free RAM. I have replaced the super bloatware Facebook for Android by Facebook and Twitter and replaced them with SCOPE (far lesser RAM used than both app combined)
Does anybody have any idea of what we can do?
As far as i know when u are connected to the internet most of the apps run in the background and thus u have less available ram. Widgets also drain a lot, try to avoid them. U can tweak some kernel values so that the system will make more available free ram , like minfree values.

THis is what i did. However the it does not affect my memory, and i suspect it was the ROM because of the previous versions was better. I have not tried ICS though.
Have you tried using an app called Greenify?

Well, that did not helped much, actually. I'm not sure what is the real issue behind it, but I'm still tinkering with some of the ROMs and installing what I perceive as low-RAM-usage apps.
Currently i'm running GREENIFY and MEMORY MANAGER (that sets the minfree values) and hopefully by later i'll come out with something useful.
I'm not that of a poweruser, so using another custom kernel then doing some adjustments not specified by the dev is a little too much to me, unless I know i can follow through with the steps.
update:
Some of the apps that I have perceived as low RAM usage and downright functional (not beautiful, but gets things done)
Launcher:
- Smart Launcher
- Zeam Launcher
- Lightning Launcher
Facebook:
- Atrium
- Scope (Twitter and Facebook)
Twitter:
- Twicca
- Scope
- Echofon
Google +
(no alternative)
Media:
- Quickpix (gallery alternative)
- Hiki Player (music player alternative)
- Nano player (music player alternative, bare bones)
- MX Player (video player)
- Tubemate (at least you can greenify this over the stupid Youtube App)
E-Mail:
- default email client
- K9 email client
Contacts and messaging:
- Contacts + (this one does a lot)
- pansi sms (sms alternative)
File Managers:
- Root Browser Lite
- ES File Explorer.
That's about it for the time being.
At this time 3rd June 2013, Google is updating the core apps. I am unable to uninstall the email apk and gmail apk.
Hey, guys. This ROM is originally made by Shumxin, I am just sharing it because I recently started using it and I actually liked it a lot. It is based on Android Lollipop 5.1.1. The SCREENSHOTS are given in the attachments. (I am using UPPERCASE letters so that you don't ignore the important parts.)
Here are it's pros and the cons, followed by a conclusion;
PROS:
1) The system is VERY smooth and works lightning fast. Your phone won't lag a bit. (More than 2 GB of RAM stays free when idle, shown in screenshot)
2) FANTASTIC BATTERY LIFE. Battery usage is VERY LOW, this is what impressed me the most.
2) Even though the UI's default theme is very boring, you can spice it up with a theme, like the one I used. There are ABOVE hundreds of THEMES available.
3) Camera app has some nice features add.
CONS:
1) You'll probably run away after reading this; Gapps cannot be flashed while using this ROM. However, you can download it externally. But once everything has been installed (including the Play Services framework), the Play Store crashes in some cases, and in the other cases it won't connect to the servers. And here's a problem for Clash of Clans players; even if Google Play is installed, you won't be able to play COC and all other games that requires Google Play.
2) The market is very messed up, well, for who doesn't know Chinese language
CONCLUSION:
If you are a gamer, this ROM is a straight no. And if you were wondering about how can we download applications, we can always download the apk files from apkmirror.com and alternative website (Google up).
If you are a regular user seeking for fluid performance and good battery saving options, this ROM is a MUST. Trust me when I say this, you'll love it.

AFAIK, there's a setting in COS, that let's background apps to be FCed that you need to enable for Whatsapp to run in background in COS. I used COS on my Oppo Find 7S, till I relinquished it to my wife....enough knowledge is enough...

It is worth mentioning that in this release, if we toggle the root ON, we can freely modify the system partition! No need for any custom files!
Does "Pokemon Go" app works with this version?
good update but remix os is still far superior.
@slybunda At what? I can also say my bike is superior without listing it's pros.
more stable and better 3d support
It all comes down to specific hardware @slybunda . On my devices Phoenix is more stable and has more features at the same time plus a better design. I personally don't care about 3D acceleration - android-x86 would be enough for games because those are usually ran in fullscreen, so no desktop UI needed.

I love your rom so much @Regnas I updated a port that already existed for the vzw gs4 just so I could keep using it for my own personal use. It's the best rom ever, 10,000xlove. Sorry that's a little off topic because it's not really the same rom. This is just the first post I've seen from you and had to shoutout some love
@tdct12 do have in mind that this is an official release by Chaozuo @Regnas does deserve the love for publishing it though

Has anyone had any luck booting this from USB? I have tried from USB and SD, but have had no luck. I was able to dual boot from my SSD drive, but it seemed to make my Win 10 OS lag a lot. I ran the installer and selected install to U, and let it install. I do have bios setup to boot from USB first and even tried it through the boot menu. It almost seems like the drive is not bootable though. Any ideas or thoughts?
Verification failed error 15. Any work around?
