Gaming - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anybody use their note 3 to game on? I am looking for a decent rom/kernel combo for modern combat 4 using mhl and xbox 360 controller. Been trying roms but would like to know what other people use. It's more or less to show off the capabilities of this phone. Does not need to be battery friendly.

Basicly even the stock rom works for that you know. I use a ps3 controller to play games on my phone via mhl. My rom kernel combo is xnote/lean kernel tho.

Onlive

Downloaded onlive today and so far its just alright. the lag and graphics need to be fixed, i'm on 25mbs wireless n and it lags. I have also got my sixaxis controller working via Bluetooth and everything works except right trigger in dirts 3 and split second.
oh sweet it does pick up controllers, yeah the lag is gonna fixed or people might have overloaded the service today. totoally worth it for the free game
Not available in Japan yet.
well it doesnt need to be ...
does the ps3 controller only work for certain games?
how about with lego batman since that is free
Well, I got it to work, and it seems ok, but I would like a higher resolution. Does it work with xbox360 controller or PS3?
I works with xbox 360 controler. For me there is no lags, but graphics looks bad. Waiting for updates - maybe they will do it better

is your 360 controller wired?
As for the resolution, I have noticed this since I have been using onlive for sometime. On my computer monitor it doesn't look that pretty, but when played on my htpc to my big screen looks amazing only time will tell they most likely will be fixing this soon.
On a side note I am having a wet dream were valve buys them
Im loving it. Installed last night and got up this morning with legobatman in my games! No lag here and i have crap broadband, with bt, Loads of games that i love for only a couple of quid! Game on ppl
P.S. xbox controller working for me, now i can play assassins creed revelations at work, llluuusssshhhhhh!
I dont have a 360 controller but i have read about somewhere and for sure it works.
The xbox 360 wired controller works great with onlive, but I have only played lego batman.

I have the PC wireless xbox 360 controller, but maybe I need to get the joystick app to get it working properly.

I can use it with emulators, but in shadowgun I just spin. The driver program is probably worth a shot, if not maybe I'll just get a PS3 controller.

N7 2nd gen -- controllers?

So, I sold my first gen N7 and my 2nd gen is in the mail.
My question is this: what are my options for hooking up a controller?
I have read that the Bluetooth no longer supports Wii and ps3 controllers.
What about wiring one through an otg cable? Like a 360 wired controller?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Can you provide a source for blue tooth incompatibility? Nothing should have changed and they would be stupid to have disabled that feature. OTG should still be viable.

You'd have better luck posting in the actual Nexus 7.2 forums at this point.
Crap, my bad. Didn't see an N7.2 forum ... Hopefully a mod will move it for me.
I don't have the source at the moment, but I read a q&a from another thread here saying Bluetooth was no longer viable after 4.3.
I tried to make a RAZR Orca (360 controller) work with otg and it wouldn't recognise it.

This thread got moved to the N7.2 forum, but never got any replies... anyone know if the new N7.2 can hook up to controllers?
Preferably a RAZR Onza?

Mine works with the PS3 controller through the sixaxis app. I don't have a wii so don't know about those.
edit -- I'm rooted too btw. I think you need to be for the sixaxis app to work anyway
edit 2 -- I just tried hooking up my wired xbox 360 controller with my OTG cable and it is picked right up automatically without any other software

Good to know, thank you for that info
I'm rooted, and currently downloading a ROM with GApps for it. I don't own a PS3 controller though... maybe I can find a friend that will let me borrow his to test it out...

I've only used PSX, PS2, and original Xbox controllers so far (yes, original Xbox, great for N64 emulation, just cut off the tip and splice a regular USB cable on) and they all worked, but the Xbox controller sadly had major input lag (like 4 full seconds).
Thank you so much for that! I'm gonna subscribe. Let me know when it can support the wiimote again and I'll buy that app too

You need an OTG adapter.

You might not be interested in buying another, separate, controller; but, of you don't mind, the Moga Pro controller is fantastic. It has a very premium feel to it, and very much so reminds me of a Xbox 360 controller. Its compatible with all of the major apps. Plus, the ones that it isn't compatible with, you can set up for yourself.
They also have fantastic customer support. I picked up my Flo on launch day. The Moga Pivot application wasn't running, so I emailed them. Within two days they had sent out an update and thanked me for letting them know. Also, its fully wireless. So none if that OTG stuff, and you can use it on your phone.

The OEM ps3 using Bluetooth? And with what app?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I would recommend a PS3 controller. It has been the best controller I've ever used on Android. I have been through them all. I have a Moga Original, and its great for on the go but lacks a D-Pad. I have an Ouya controller, but it's clunky D-Pad is similar to the 360's. WiiMotes (which don't work currently) are great but lacks the button count to play anything other then NES emulators. The Moga, Ouya, 360, WiiMote, and PS3 all have good battery life. Other controllers typically suck the juice and have bad button feedback or otherwise cheaply made. Don't waste your money on anything other then the above noted.
The PS3 has a great DPad and quality. Batteries last a long time, buttons feel great, response time is flawless, connects directly to the Tablet (no dongle like 360).
The Moga is iffy. Seems to be effected with delayed response when using the Moga Pairing app, which is required for the second analog support and for launching games so they pick up on the controls. Controls aren't bad but if you play something like Mario or Sonic, you'll feel the controls are slightly "off". Still a great controller for on-the-go. I haven't tried the Moga on the new N7 yet, they may have fixed this lag.
The PS3 controller is also probably one of the cheaper controllers you can find. I picked up a White PS3 DualShock from Gamestop for $29 new. The PS3 also has the greatest amount of support. It plays reliably across all of my devices, where the others are hit and miss.
The app required is the SixAxis Pairing app from the Play Store. Some custom roms build in this driver and the controller can connect natively, but for the most part, you would use the app. Benefits of the app also include the ability to map buttons to touchscreen overlay controls for games that do not support gamepads.

Out of curiosity, are you talking about the MOGA Pocket or the MOGA Pro? I own the latter and have never had too much trouble with the device in HIG mode (the MOGA app itself though was something of another level of horror).

Using this app: Sixaxis Controller
Note: You must be rooted and use a PC to change the pairing address of the controller to that of your Nexus 7. They provide a free PC utility to do that.

[Q] Gaming controller suggestions

So I'm torn between two options. A PS3 controller + gameklip, and the Moga Pro. Specifically with 4.3.
With our lack of a self powered USB OTG, and the recent changes in Bluetooth from 4.2 onward, what is the "best" controller to use with our N4s?
Rooting is not a problem. As most reviews of android game controllers revolve around not having to be rooted, and having USB OTG support.
I'm leaning towards the Moga Pro with its built in clip, and dual connection mode. (Bluetooth HID, and the Moga app.)
Anyone has experience using both controllers on the N4?
Edit: wasn't sure if to post here or in the Q&A forum. Since the question itself is about accessories. If a mod deems necessary, please move this thread.
gplus.to/hartley add me, let's play some games.
I haven't use the Moga so i'm posting for no reason...ha
But I really do love the ps3 controller using an app by the same name from the play store. It really is great how you can image map and such. That being said, there is a Moga thread in this forum somewhere and you might get better results there. Id be interested to hear about the comparison though.

Yeah, the compatibility of the ps3 seems to be the best. The ability to map buttons to screen presses seems to be the best way to make any game work, whether it has controller support or not.
I've heard of lag issues of using Bluetooth and WiFi at the same time with the Moga, not sure if these issues were ever fixed or not. Are they present with the ps3 controller? I have unlimited mobile data, but reception is obviously better on WiFi than mobile while inside my house.
The main thing stopping me from using the PS3 controller is the price. Once I buy an official controller plus the gameklip, you're looking at almost $80 after taxes and/or shipping.
I've been watching craigslist and might start looking at local pawn shops to see if I can find a used ps3 controller at a better price. (Unlike GameStop which gives you a whole $5 off for a used controller)
Edit: and while i asked for opinions from those who have used both, I'm more than open to hear from those who have used one or the other. I just want opinions from people who actually use one of these devices on a N4 with 4.3.
gplus.to/hartley add me, let's play some games.
hello my friend, i recently purchased the moga pro controller to play with my n4, and im absolutly happy about it, the control feels really nice in your hand, like really nice..i've been playing a lot mc4,riptide gp2, asphalt 8, shadowgun deadzone and a few more, and they all run perfectly with no laggs, i repit, 0 lagg xD... i've been playing some emulator aswell, using the moga universal driver controller, and it runs just fine , playing zelda ocarina of time on this bad boy is really awesome , i have tried sixasis controller, but for like 2-3 days, and it was ok, but u need a gameklip to play with, and the set up for mapping is a bit strange to me ( i dont know why) setting up the moga controller was not a problem, is really easy to set up.
i hope this help to you, if u have any question for the moga pro controller, just ask
grettings
(pardon for my english)

I'm not sure if it will work but I think ziddeys kernel can work...its a modded version of Franco's...it supports OTG...but ul need an OTG cable with external power...
I'm currently using it with flash drives, Mouse, card readers,etc...but I'm not sure if a game controller might work or not...
Here's the link to the kernel...

I'm on 4.3 rasbean, I use both ps3 controller and the moga controller. I use the ps3 controller when my phone is connected to the TV. I stream my pc, and I play fps and emulators on the TV, it's like a little console for me. Moga works great for the road doesn't work with my pc streaming app but works great with other apps like gta.
Both worked well with Franco and I haven't noticed lag with them. I use them often. Both work great, but Moga doesn't work with everything like kainy my pc streaming app, I play Diablo 3 with the ps3 controller

I will have to check out kainy, that's one feature I loved about the nvidia shield. While the streaming app sounds awesome, I honestly only see myself using it with diablo iii. KB/mouse > controller for fps. Strategy games have too many buttons. Diablo is honestly perfect.
The phone will be the screen. I won't be hooking it up to the television. I'll wait for a dedicated device for that.
Gameklip is a ~$20 plastic clip that will hold your phone onto the ps3 controller. Much like the Moga will hold your phone. A little pricey, but from all the reviews its a very well made clip.

For you it sounds like you need to sell the Moga and get a gameklip.

I had an Ipega, it wasn't great. Really want to try a Moga but they're still too expensive in the UK.

how does the controller work, does it use an app to play with games or is it hid and you map controls? have you tried playing any emulators? how is the battery life, how long does it last/how fast does it charge? how does controller feel compared to other controllers specifically moga/xbox controller?

It works without any app, but using a third party app gives you compatbility with almost the 100% of the games, i've played these games: Dead trigger 1,2, NFS most wanted, alphast 7,8, Modern Combat 4, PSX games, SNES emulator,
About battery life, playing is almost 4.5h, then you have to charge the phone (the controller still has battery)... and charging the controller takes 2h tops.

A Bluetooth gaming controller for Note 4

Hey.
As i have got the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 a little over a week ago, i figured out that the phone is perfect for pocket gaming.
However, i need a very good gaming controller before it can be perfect for that. Before i asks about the controllers i will just tell that i have the MHL 2.0 to HDMI adapter to my phone, so i can plug my phone to the TV. So i just need the controller.
I have been looking at 2 alternatives that looks to be good.
1: Moga Pro Mobile Gaming System.
2. Samsung Wireless GamePad.
I'm looking at those 2 because they have the ability to carry the phone if you are not close to a TV. I just want to hear what you guys / peoples here thinks about those to gaming controllers and which of those are the best?
Ofc, i'm open to other controllers (that can hold the phone) to as long as you can give a good explanation on why you would choose another gaming controller.
And lastly, as i'm living in Norway, i'll guess i can use Amazon.co.uk to buy a controller and get it sent to Norway right?
what is the best bluetooth game controller for my note 4?
