It seems that since Google updated Market to Google Play, I can't access or install a bunch of apps that I want.
The two that bother me right now are 'Lookout Mobile Security' and 'Firefox for Android'. If I search Google Play, neither show up in search results. If I use the browser and go directly to either Firefox's or Lookout's site to install, I get redirected to Google Play and the Install button in both cases is grayed out and nothing happens.
And I'm very unhappy that I can no longer download the apks using my computer and side load/install it.
????????????
I'm on a standard Nook Color, with the newest stable release running in EMMC:
Android version: 2.3.7
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
Mod version: CyanogenMod 7.1.0-encore
Build No: GWK74
Everything else works fine and I have no other problems or complaints.
Can someone give me some things to try and get this working???

You can download Firefox_10_0_multi.apk from several sites. The md5 of all downloads I tried is 3c490ee533fae7166fa589aa88ba59f1. I have not had, or found any reference to, any problems with it. I just downloaded it again from http://fiberupload.com/v1r9xzkzpbr8.
I have also downloaded and am now using Firefox v10.0.1.apk. Its md5 is 59a29173879c040ca781299f7b193197. I don't have any more info about it at hand and don't have time now to look it up. Should be easy to find, though!
BTW, I don't, as a matter of principle, register my devices with Google, nor with Barnes and Noble or Amazon. I believe in anonymity, where possible, vis-a-vis the government and corporations that cooperate with it.
I'm having issues as well.
I downloaded Nook Odds and Ends and ran the "Fix Netflix" and "LCD Density Changer" to try it out. I reverted the settings back and verified that the build.prop settings were correct.
Ever since then, when I go into the Play store, I can't see certain apps... like Amazon Store, Rdio, etc. and the list will never display more than 24.
[EDIT - SOLUTION]
So I've learned a lesson I'd like to share with anyone who might need it...
After restoring build.prop from a backup file, do the following IN ORDER:
1. Open Settings > Applications > Manage
2. Open Google Play Store in Downloaded tab
3. Tap on Clear Data
4. Tap on Clear Cache
5. Reboot
I figured out that the Play Store had me down as an HTC NookColor, and wouldn't revert back to BN NookColor until everything was cleared.
Using Rack's Mirage CM7/CM9 Dual Boot from SDHC and when I search Play, I get about a dozen different Firefox Apps (including Firefox itself).
I would say that the clearing cache and data would work if you couldn't access Play at all or couldn't download specific apps, but just not being able to see certain apps is unusual.
Mike
I think that this is the same problem that I just posted.
I think that it is just Google's interpretation of "BN NookColor", because the same apps are unavailable if I go to the Market/Play on a laptop - it reports "unavailable for your device BN NookColor" when the developer says that app is available for all Android versions from 1.6 to 4.0
So, it seems to me that Google must be saying "your BN NookColor needs to use the special BN Market".
I have installed this rom but i have some problems with it.
1, I cant change the baseband, when i selected the phone reboots, but nothing change it stays on brazil baseband
2, I cant download all apps from google play like facebook, messenger, google search
3, I dont have ota updater application
This bugs are known?
If someone know how to fix these problems (the baseband selector and play market which is the most important) please tell me
Thanks for everyone in advance
Hi!
I have exactly all the same problems as you .
For 1) I fixed it manually from the shell, using the following commands:
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /system
cd /system/etc/motorola/bp_nvm_default
unzip ../basebands/europe/uk_234.zip
(select your favorite baseband file from the directory structure in basebands dir)
For 2) I don't have a solution, the problem is on the Google side, their server resets the connection unexpectedly when trying to download these apps. It seems that it doesn't like something on the request, but I don't know, what's wrong.
For 3) Just download the OTA updater from the Play Store, it's the classic one. However, it will suggest to downgrade to the latest CM10.1 . I hope it will be fixed when a new release of 10.2 appears.
Regards, Pavel
Hy!
There's an update so i dont have to do this method for baseband (see developer forum)
For Google Play, i realised that, it's random which app i can't download...(so now i tried to download instagram and now it worked... and lots of apps i can download which i cant download it yet... but there are lots of app that i cant download at all... like facebook etc..)
And yes i have tried downloading ota... and its not works...
But thank you for your solution

I will update it today, and i will write here, how it's works...
i have updated to the latest version (20130905), now i can select baseband, but google play not works perfectly
I fixed everything...
So the update fixed my baseband problem...
And i fixed play error with replaced the hosts file (/system/etc) which is used in cm 10.1. Now google play works perfectly
I dont have problems with sms, so this is the best rom which i used. Fast, new, many functions.
Only some little problems:
OTA updater still missing...and if i download its want to downgrade to cm 10.1
The wifi and data download/upload markers missing.

I have an issue, similar to your #2, just flashed czechop's CM10.2 rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451742 , and some apps become "incompatible" with my Milestone 2, e.g. Bank of America, Google goggle, etc. It's not due to 4.3 because my Nexus 4 with 4.3 is compatible to those apps. Anyone has any idea? Thank you in advance.

I think you have some things in the hosts file from the great wall of china. I used engle mars rom before and i had a lot of problems for this reason. Now i?m using czcechop rom and it works fine without problems. What about doing some wipes or formatting to ext-4?
Do a nandroid backup first of course.
Greetings

Thanks. Before I flashed czcechop's rom, i don't have this issue. Based on the past few hours, his rom seems more stable than Engle Mars. But currently I suffer this incompatible problem.

hi, have you update to lastest?
I have a Verizon version of the Galaxy S5 that I recently switched over to the Cricket network. I have been getting the notification in the title ever since switching over. So I rooted the phone in hopes that I would be able to resolve this issue. Below are the specs of my phone as well as things I have tried.
Model Number : SM-G900V
Android Version : 4.4.2
Baseband Version : G900VVRU1ANCG
Kernel Version :3.4.0
[email protected]#1
Mon Mar 31 13:30:24 KST 2014
Build Number : KKOT49H.G900VVRU1ANCG
SE For Android Status: Enforcing
SEPF_SM-G900V_4.4.2_0017
Wed Jun 25 17:51:34 2014
Hardware Version : G900V.05
Security Software Version: MDF v1.0 Release 2
VPN v1.4 Release 1
After rooting the phone I have gone through and turned off all Verizon related apps as well as cleared the phone's cache from recovery mode. I also tried searching in the /system, /system/app, and /system/bin directories for the following files to no avail:
vzwphoneservice.apk
vzwphoneservice.odex
VzwController.apk
VzwController.odex
I would like to remove everything Verizon related from the phone, but I'm sure this would be much more involved than I want to get so if we can get the unknown sim card message to go away and hopefully the 'Wi-Fi Detected' screen that keeps prompting me to sign into Verizon, that would be great.
Thank you for your help,
Ron

Thanks for starting a new thread.
As you have a Verizon phone, I agree that the annoying nag you are seeing is caused by the Verizon setup app. And unless they have renamed their app (which would just mean searching a bit more).. it should be one of the names you listed above.
At a glance, it just appears that you didn't search in all of the places that the app could be located. It's probably located in the /system/priv-app directory.. and you didn't list that as a place that you looked.
Is your phone rooted?
You can use a root aware browser like FX or a terminal emulator app and search these directories:
/data/app or /data/data/app or /userdata/app
/system/app
/system/priv-app
Then rename the file and it's odex counterpart, clear your cache and reboot..
Let us know if that succeeds or not.
--
If you are using the command line, try
Code:
$ su
# find / -name vzwphoneservice.*
et cetera
.

I'm comin up snake eyes on this search. FX doesn't seem to be allowing me to use the '*' wildcard in file name searches, and the terminal emulator i installed apparently can't even use the 'find' function. Any other ideas?

Are you using the root version of FX?
The wildcard was intended for the command line. Search for an exact file name in FX if you need to (or look up what they use for a wild card).
e.g.
vzwphoneservice.apk
vzwphoneservice.odex
VzwController.apk
VzwController.odex
.

Try using the built in search function in FX root to have the app do the search for you.
Or from the command line, try searching for the exact file name:
find / -name vzwphoneservice.apk
find / -name vzwphoneservice.odex
et cetera
.

Like I had originally posted, Rooting my phone was one of the first things I did to try to resolve the issue. I did install the root add-on for FX and it prompts me for root permission when I go to a 'protected' directory. As far as command line, using Terminal Emulator that i downloaded from the Play Store. When I run the commands you suggest, it tells me "find: not found". I'm in the process of installing ADB on my computer now to try to use that command line.
I haven't forgotten about you guys, I've just been busy as hell. I'll let you know as soon as I can get a command line script to run and we can move forward.

My advice is to go to the Note 3 forums. I had that problem too with an note from verizon and i succesfully deleted an app from note. I don't remember wich one is responsable for that message but it is possible after root. Check first on verizon note 3 forum.

A easier way you can stop that notification from coming up is to disable the app "Setup Wizard 1.0" its just called Setup Wizard when looking from you're app drawer. When you long press on the "This SIM Card is from an unknown source" notification and hit app info it points to it as the culprit. You can do it with Titanium Backup Pro, however TouchWiz has a option for you to disable stock apps and it behaves the same way as freezing in Titanium Backup Pro. You will get a disable option if its a stock app and which it is. I'm guessing they don't want you to just uninstall it. If you try to do it in Titanium Backup Pro it will work the same way as you disabling it via TouchWiz it even shows in the disabled apps. It should be a icon with a magic wand and a check symbol.
To disable it just hit apps to the bottom right assuming you are using the TouchWiz launcher then tap the 3 dots to the top right to bring up the menu and choose Uninstall/disable apps and scroll through your apps to find Setup Wizard and hit the - thingy to disable it.
unknown Sim
SORRY IF ANSWERED OR LATE
To turn of either disable through third party uninstall app. I used NOBLOAT if rooted the process is a snap. The coding for the Sim is installed in SetupWiz if you find it in no bloat just tap and hit disable. Problem solved. If you remove Wiz. Next time u factory reset you will have standard Google wiz. So recommend just to disable.
Not Verizon Sim Card
I need help, my son purchased a Galaxy S5 g900V and its supposed to come unlocked, however it still says Sim not from Verizon, and when he calls *611 to get his provider it does not go through and states something about Verizon my son can not use data but is able to make calls, does anybody know how to fix this?
I have a T-Mobile Stock S5. I have full bars and 4G LTE service where I am.
I have a Verizon S5 that I have rooted. When I place my T-Mobile SIM Card in and come up, I get the same message for "Not Verizon SIM Card". When I long press on this message the App Reporting this is Android Agent. If I Force Close this app the message goes away until I reboot my phone.
Also, My Verizon phone will not give me 4G LTE (I get Edge, HSPA, and 3G). Are there any other settings I can do for Data?
Is that a different boot version I can put on my phone to make it work better with T-Mobile.

Hey guys. I recently updated my phone, and to my surprise, Facebook was installed. I remember uninstalling it before applying the update. When I go into settings and check the version, it says "version stub". What does that mean? Also, "Uninstall" is no longer an option. Now, I can only "disable/enable" or "force stop" it. Has anyone else seen this?
Thanks for the reponses.

Only thing I could find was someone on Reddit asking about the same thing.
It's most likely a carrier push (probably Samsung including it in the update and carrier leaving it in, like when they include other bloatware when they make the OS).
You should be able to get rid of it with Root, if you don't use FB, it's probably going to make more sense to just delete any shortcuts and not touch it than to root though.
Yeah theyre system apps.
you can delete or freeze it if your rooted, not sure about a unrooted method tho.
There are actually 3 apks for FB for some reason
/system/app/Facebook_stub/
/system/app/FBAppManager_NS/
/system/priv-app/FBInstaller_NS/
I'd like advice for rooting my Samsung Tab A T350, maybe back to Android 6x? I got the OTA update to 7.1.1/Samsung Experience 8.5 and I really dislike it - screen response time (switching between portrait / landscape) now takes up to 3 seconds, apps take a while to open, and the overall experience (font sizes, screen layout etc) is either super tiny or unwieldy without any in-between. I'll put the spec details below. I've done a factory reset post-update and that failed to fix the speed issue, plus all the bloatware is back again which is annoying. NOTE: I think what I might be hating here is the new 'Samsung Experience 8.5', so if there's just a way to get rid of that I'd be thrilled! I tried both Nova Launcher and Google Now Launcher and they're improvements, but it's still not as good/fast as it was pre-update.
Anyway I'm a newbie when it comes to rooting my devices; all I've ever done is root stock Android for my Nexus 6. I'm a fan of the stock Android interface and would love it if my Tab A could act more like my Nexus 6, which is also on 7.1.1 but without all the Samsung crap/"experience".
Any pointers? I'm not sure where to start and the posts on this forum that have to do with rooting mostly seem to be about installing 7.1.1 / Exp. 8.5, rather than getting rid of it. Thanks!!

If you wanna debloat, see here for TWRP and root. https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-a/development/recovery-t3426560
Always make a backup. If you're on 7.1.1 still, use Nougat TWRP 3.1.1-1 for the T355. I was laggy too before debloating. I also nearly tripled my battery life afterwards. You can also change the rotation speed by lowering the screen transition in dev options. As far as a launcher is concerned, the most nexus like is probably Trebuchet. Apk mirror has it. I've tested it and it does work. If you need any help, feel free to ask here or send a pm.

I just used root explorer and deleted any google apps that I don't use, which happens to be all of them. Same with all the Microsoft apps. Went into data/data and deleted the folders associated with them. Checked data/app and deleted any google leftovers that were there as well. Wiped dalvik cache only. Rebooted. You could in theory wipe data too, I just didn't want to deal with a huge startup time or setting everything up again. Definitely make a back up, and preferably put a copy on your pc too. Can't stress that enough. As a rule of thumb, you could delete anything found in system/app, system/priv-app, and /data without bricking anything, just dont expect it to boot if you delete a system critical app. Hope this helps you.
Did you solve this?
