[Q][REQ] 4.4 Minimal ROM - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys I'm looking for a ROM that has just the minimal apps that keep the phone working right. (Spen/Gplay/Call+Text etc. )
I'm not looking for any super duper reskins and custom features (Maybe if there nice) or anything like that, just minimal.
The reason I'm looking for this is because I've removed the wrong apps multiple times and had to reflash my phone with is very frustrating... I know there's what to and not to remove threads but that takes to long... Ive looked through the rom section and nothing semmed to fit me (Accept CM11 wich i cant use) Maybe one of you guys has barebone minimum on your phone and could/woyld hit me up with a backup of it (Without your personal data obviously) Thank guys for any help or suggestions.

my best advice, strip the ROM yourself.
Note 3 is way too delicate for custom roms for me, i come from a lot of previous samsung phones and nearly on all of them i have used CM, but the spen framework to me is irreplaceable.
There are some scripts for Aroma that will give you a choice of apps to debloat (remove), then theres an app for windows which will re-pack the ROM without the apps you chose.
I personally, right after i flash a rom, i root, and i use a file manager and delete the stuff in /system/app and /system/priv-app
anyway, here are the links that might be useful to you

[Q] How to retain pre-installed apps when flashing custom rom

I hope this is not a totally dumb question as I am new to Android phones:
There are some good apps that come with the note as standard like S Memo and also some Samsung specific things like S Choice. How do I keep these when I upgrade to a custom Rom.
I looked as Astro file manager back up capability, and it doesn't list these there.
Would Titanium backup list them and allow me to save them for re-installation?
Thanks
Chris
You can't really keep them on a non-Samsung ROM as they depend on the Touchwiz framework. Sorry :'-(

are u going to be flashing an ICS rom or staying on Gingerbread? you will not be able to use any pre-installed apps if you are flashing ICS rom. But if you're flashing a GB rom (rocket rom v23, checknote etc) then you can use Titanium Backup but most GB roms come with smemo, splanner, etc. Hope this helped.

Thanks for those replies guys, it's actually really helpful for a newbe like me. I need to explaore the standard apps a bit more to see what's good and whether I need a substitute for any.
I was thinking of flashing an ICS ROM, but I need to explore which one is the best.
If I loose the S.Memo app, that seems really good, is there a substitue in the market? Of all the apps that utilises the pen, that would seem to be the key one!
Your advice is appreciated.
I'm using a modified version of MyScript Notes Mobile which I think works perfect for handwriting notes. Get it here (and thank the guy who modified it in that thread ): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594325
It's in American/English only but if you need any other language you can download a language pack with 28 additional languages here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426975
I'm not sure if the ICS roms based on the leaked Samsung firmwares have all the s-pen apps but I'm sure just about any custom GB rom here is based on original Samsung firmwares and thus include all Samsung apps (unless explicitly mentioned in the thread that they were removed ofcourse).
You can still use your pen in ICS roms that are not based on Samsung firmwares though you'll lose pressure sensitivity. If you feel like you'll need pressure sensitivity you could flash a rom based on LP6.

[Q] Deodexed recent ROM ? (XXMC2)

Hello,
I've tried to search the forum, but I only found customed ROM. It seems the latest ROM is XXCM2 (Changelist 1230243) for Europeans: http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-S5360
I'd like someone skilled to apply the basic stuff to this ROM. I guess the base is to deodex the ROM and make it a CWM package. Maybe it will need a % Battery mod too.
After that, everyone would be able to customize the ROM (remove bloatware with applications like link2sd or Root App Delete/uninstaller).
For now, on forum I see only custom ROM without stock UI (often ugly) and often it's not precised on which official ROM it is based, and it seems that most of these developers/cookers don't use the latest Samsung firmware as base...
If someone skilled can help, thanks in advance, else I'll give up with this phone.

only if you want to edit smali files you need to deodex, and for removing stock bloatware it isn't needed.

[Q] Editing APKs on a deodexed ROM

Here's my situation: I've rooted my S5 and tried out a few different ROMs, but I'm looking for something specific that I haven't been able to quite find yet. This is probably due to the relatively low number of ROMs supporting the G900P model, because ROMs like X-Note and Alliance look like what I need.
Essentially, I want a ROM that is completely debloated, streamlined with no extra crap on it. Additionally I'd like to have that ROM have custom colors, boot animation, etc.
MOAR (the ROM I'm currently using) is somewhat debloated with some good customization possibilities. However, I've been having some system issues with this ROM. Additionally, the color customization doesn't support linking colors of multiple aspects of the device, so you have to go copy/paste a color for everything that you want to be the same color, and there's a lot of options there. It still contains a bit of excess software, and the ROM itself takes up a large amount of my phone storage.
Another ROM that I have used is R.D.D.T. which is a great rom that is completely debloated and deodexed. Very streamlined and clean, however it's customization options are essentially nonexistent. Ideally, I'd like to use this ROM and be able to edit the colors and boot animation of my phone to get a more customized look. This is why I'm looking into editing APK files. I'd like to flash this ROM and edit the APK files or other files in order to edit my phone's look.
I've looked at tutorials for editing APK files, but none of them really show where you need to go to actually find the specific files, which ones you're looking for, etc. and I was wondering if there was a good tutorial for that here.
Alliance is the only rom on s5 that allows linking etc. The code to enable all that stuff though is in tons of files. It's not a case of just adding a little bit I'm afraid. However... With a bit of luck we may have a sprint rom at some point in the near future.
If you really want to learn look at my threads and you will find a smali thread which should help

Thanks for the reply! The linking aspect isn't a huge concern for me atm. Honestly if I was just able to get a good color scheme all set and a custom boot animation, I could just leave at that and be fine. I'm just not sure where to find the correct APK files and get them edited to look how I want.
But yes, getting Alliance on Sprint S5 would be wonderful

Noobie help for rooting and different OS?

Hi all,
Still have my Note 3 and enjoying it but realise it is slightly long in the tooth and slowing down, so I am thinking of breathing some life back into the old girl and installing a new OS, recommendations and guides would be kindly received?
There are, till now, 40 million tutorials on the web on how to. So...
I'm using Audax L Rom since last year with stock kernel selected. This is running very well. I can recommend it.
You can find it in the forum here.
I installed it the short way without taking care of knox, because note 3 was already out of waranty.
Regards
mayerflash
Thanks for the reply, again scuse the noobie question, but I hear Knox is major draw on the phone's system, I presume a root and a new OS would get rid of this, also would all my apps work on the new OS, is this dependant on which one I install?
Audax L Rom is already de-knox-ed.
Usually all apps will work unless they don't rely on a specific kernel (usually stock).
For those you can select to use the stock kernel during installation. (Like i do. )
Apps which need knox won't work on this rom, of course.
I always preferred Cyanogenmod, thus I recommend temasek's CM13 builds + OpenGapps STOCK, see my sig which always shows up to date what I use and consider a good daily driver for home and company use

Looking for a new ROM that is simple & stable - Confused by all the options...!

I root/mod (or flash an alternate firmware) on all my old phones and pads, but I don't normally do this to my phone (daily driver), and have always chosen phones with fairly basic android as standard (Like Motorola).
The Xiaomi 9t that I have now is the first MIUI based phone that I've had. It's great but MIUI is just OK... I use NOVA launcher and I disabled all the apps that I don't use via ADB.
It's worked well and the phone is still fast and is frankly the best phone I've had (obviously any newer phone is better than the last generation).
But after successive updates the disabled apps have slowly creeped back in and I just can't be bothered to ADB back and work out which apps to disable again (I remember disabling certain ones causes bootloops).
I just want to backup the phone, unlock the bootloader and flash a new (debloated) ROM.
I don't care what ROM it is, so long as it fulfills my needs... I have looked through the various ROMS available over the last few days and am just not sure which one is best suited...
If I had to make a choice of the various ROMS I would probably choose Lineage, however I think it needs Magisk and various modules to pass the safety checks.
In case I have missed a ROM or not fully read through all the various ROM threads properly... I'm asking for a recommendation... .
What I need is (in order of preference).
Stability - I want maximum stability with all features working.
Updated - Something with frequent security updates.
UnRooted (to pass SafetyNet) - I don't need Magisk and want use apps that require security).
Battery Life.
Debloated - I don't need mods or tweaks or extra apps over stock Android, unless they increase performance/stability.
Stock Android ( I guess I don't mind MIUI if it is fully debloated).
I really don't care about themes, UI mods/tweaks, sound enhancements, quick launchers, or any app other than the stock ones.
Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
I am using Lineage and i m so happy. With Miui i had some errors but With this room 0 problems. With Miui i had 5 hours of battery and With lineage 8.
U have staibility, a rom update and a very good experience.
