[Q] i9300 Nightlies won't update any more - Omni Q&A

Hello,
I have SGS 3 (i9300) and have 4.4.2-20140523-i9300-NIGHTLY installed. Every time I check for updates it says that my phone is up to date. I can see that newer versions are available.
Is there something I can/should do?
Thank you for your help!

This happened to me too on tolte. I just dirty flashed the latest nightly and updates started again.

Same problem here... How can i manually flash last update through ota, without losing my data ? Thanks for help

Try downloading the latest build and installing. (I. E not ota). This tends to get it going again. You won't lose data.

How do I install it? Through TWRP? Do I only flash the rom? What about gapps? No wiping necessary?

Twrp, yes. Just flash the ron and you won't lose data. Backing up is always a good idea of coursr.

I was going through same problem. Flashing Rom and deleting opendelta folder solved it.

[Q] [help] Can't update CM11, install fails during boot

I got CM11 on a Nexus 4, the version is 11.0-InstallerXNPQ08Q, core version is 3.40-cyanogenmod-g710ed60 and the compilation is 4.4.2 KOT49H.
I get the notification about a new version, hit install and when the process starts it restarts (so far so good) and then the install animation which lasts a second before it turns to the fail state and before I can read the error or anything it boots back to android/cyanogen.
Is anyone else having this problem? how did you solve it?

Wouldn't be easier to try flashing the latest CM11 zip from CWM without a data wipe? what are the risks?

Have you tried downloading the latest CM11, copying it over to the phone, and dirty flashing from a custom recovery? Dirty flashing may cause some apps to stop functioning as some apps will not work under 4.4.4.

Imperium Rom 12 update

Hello everybody. I am currently using custom imperium rom v. 11. The OTA update is notifying me that there's an update to v. 12. However since the installation isn't automatic I'd like to ask whether after flashing the update it'll wipe all user data?
Hi,
You'll be okay with that, as long as you followed the correct procedure for OTA updates.
Sent from my GT-I9500
So it'll simply update the Rom without data loss?
Technically it should do a dirty flash.
Rom zips don't usually have a wiping procedure incorporated. That is usually left to be done by the user, manually.
But it still gives me options for installing new/different features(different browser, system apps etc...). I made a update.zip backup just in case. All I'm worried about is bootloop.
It will probably replace the existing ones.

(ALE-L21) Installed firmware B564, still on Lollipop 5.0

Hi,
I have a problem and hope you can help me. I did quite a bit of rooting and installing custom roms on other devices but this was my first try on a Huawei.
I wanted to install a custom rom. The phone was on Lollipop 5.0 (can't remember what firmware it was on). I installed TWRP, did a backup, looked up a rom online and got stuck on boot. So I restored my backup, did some more research and found out that it is possible to upgrade to Marshmallow with an official system update manually.
I then checked what firmware it was running: balongV100R001C50b311. I looked online for the stock recovery for that version, flashed it, then flashed a vendor upgrade to get away from the balong-version (was recommended in another forum in order to be able to upgrade to MM).
So now: I'm on Firmware version ALE-L21C432B564. The thing is, I'm still on Lollipop 5.0. As I understand it, B564 is a MM firmware. I flashed the recovery of B564 for manual updates (via Huawei update extractor), but I still can't do a local update (via dload) to B565 or B574. I tried to manually install the update to B564 again, hoping it would upgrade my Android version to MM, but no luck. It just gives me the error: 'Software install failed!'.
I couldn't find anything online about being on B564 and still running Lollipop. I hope some of you can help.
Thanks in advance

Why you don't just update it from the system updates, you know?
I have EMUI 3.1 too but I received an MM update right when I flashed it

You mean Settings->Updater->Check for Updates? It tells me there are no updates. It did so even before I started fiddling with it

Factory reset doesn't change anything, unfortunately. Still on B564, Lollipop. The region is Europe.
One more thing that could be helpful: The device is unrooted

But you have TWRP. Download B596 update.zip (you will find a thread in "general" section), then restart to TWRP, go to wipe~advanced wipe~ tick Data, system, dalvik/art cache and cache (Be sure to have backup!) and click wipe. Then flash B596 update.zip that you have downloaded

Hm, I read somewhere that flashing an update only works with the stock recovery. But I'll give it a try, thanks

Well, I flashed it via TWRP. Even though it aborted at "Writing radio" or something like this and gave me an unknown error, it seems to have worked.
I'm now on B596, Android 6.0. This device is killing me Thank you very much for your help

4.5.1 Update with Root and Recovery

Trying to update the 4.5.1 and it seemed to have gone fine until it automatically reboots into TWRP recovery. Upon rebooting into system, it states the update failed. With TWRP having all those jumbled folder names right now (has this been fixed yet?) it's hard to see if the update downloaded somewhere to internal storage, and further if it could be flashed even if I found it. Is updating with an OTA like this possible? I know on basically all other phone it is not. Has anyone gotten the update to work while being unlocked, rooted, with TWRP? Thanks.

Generally you need to reflash the previous Full ROM with TWRP and then flash the OTA on top for it to work as the system must be unmodified. Alternatively, you can just flash the latest Full ROM. Currently those are not available, but that's generally how it works.
If u have installed twrp before updating the stock rom, I guess we have to wait for full rom of latest update 4.5.1 which can be flashed via twrp.
P.s. FLASHING the dwnloaded update via twrp will gives u error.. So have to wait for full rom. ?

Oneplus5 - OTA Update from 4.1.15 to 5.0.1/5.1.4/5.1.5 not working

Hello Community,
I am trying to update my Oneplus 5 (A5000) from
OxygenOS 4.5.14 / Android 7.1.1 / A5000_23_171031
to
OxygenOS 5.0.1 (OnePlus5Oxygen_23_OTA_028_all_1801031502_04d7cc5.zip)
OxygenOS 5.1.4 (via OTA)
OxygenOS 5.1.5 (OnePlus5Oxygen_23_OTA_038_all_1808082017_028e075c45a84106.zip)
I am getting an "Installation failed" error, no matter which option or image I use to upgrade:
- Download from Oneplus Homepage and Install local file from recovery
- Updating via "System updates" in Android
- Updating via "System updates -> local upgrade"
I read all the posts in this forum from the last 2 months, but nothing really seams to work:
- wipe the cache in recovery
- install "older" version than 5.1.4/5.1.5 - in my case 5.0.1
- try different methods like flash from recovery, flash from local upgrade in Android...
I have an unlocked bootloader, but the phone is not rooted. I can not tell exactly if TWRP has ever been used before, because I bought this as a used phone, which already had an unlocked bootloader. Nevertheless I was able to install previous OTA updates. But now all updates are failing.
Anyone here who could help me please?
Best Regards,
Daniel

Hello, Do you have twrp running or stock recovery? Have you ever tried to factory reset and then install 5.0.1/5.1.4? Or format internal storage too and afterwards install the full 5.0.1 or 5.1.4 oos rom?

Thanks for your response. I use stock recovery. I didn't try to do factory reset or format internal storage, because I don't want to lose any data if possible.

Have you at least wiped cache in recovery(you did not mention which sort of recovery you have). Wiping cache is also an option and you'll not loose any data.
Recommendation: keep in mind to backup your whole phone from time to time
There was a similar post to this one recently where a device wouldn't update to any version of OOS. Relocking the Bootloader first was the solution in that case. You could try that.

Thanks for the reminder, I agree a 100% with you. :good:
Phone is fully backed up, I still prefer not to lose any data, as setting up everything again is not the most enjoyable thing for me.
Wiping cache via stock recovery is something I already did before, unfortunately luck.

Thanks! I think I already have seen this post, but can't find it right now. You are right, the solution was to lock the bootloader.
I wanted to avoid deleting all my data. Therefore I am primary looking for another solution. Maybe instead of going back and locking the bootloader again, going into the "other direction" where I can take advantage of the already unlocked bootloader, e.g. install custom recovery and update OSS this way? What do you think?
Best Regards,
Daniel
I had the same issue some weeks ago and the solution for me was to update from 4.5.14 to 5.0.0 with all data reset (i had already lost everything anyway). But you can maybe try it without wiping everything, only Dalvik cache. I can't find where I downloaded the 5.0.0 version (that is not stable) but I can maybe upload it on mediafire for you if you want.

Yep unlock bootloader and unable to relock it, for unknown reasons (I didn't try again since).
I'll upload the 5.0.0 OOS when i'm back home tonight .
Think about using blu_shark modified TWRP, it's full Oreo compatible.

here there is the 5.0.0 OOS versions I've found : http://www.mediafire.com/folder/97sy3q5jde1tj/Roms_OP5
But be careful, and download the 5.0.1 also because the 5.0.0 is really unstable (5.0.1 is a hot fix). I used 5.0.0 only to go to 5.0.1 right after minimal configuration.

Thanks for your effort. I haven't had the time to continue with my open task.
Unfortunately, I came across multiple postings which explicitly warned of lost data, bootloops and other strange behaviors when updating from 4.5.14 to 5.x.x while having an "open/unlocked" bootloader.
I am a little bit worried this could also affect me in my situation. I am really not in the mood to brick my device...
Maybe I will reset everything, lock my bootloader and install everything from scratch. Just need to find the time to do this.
Even after a factory reset I wasn't able to go from 4.5.14 to 5.x.x, maybe it's link to the fact that I wasn't able to relock my bootloader. Anyway give us some news, could be useful for the next guy with the same issue !
