[Q] Gallery... Connected Devices? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Inside my Gallery I see a couple different connections and I'm wondering if there is a setting I don't see that is allowing devices to connect in the first place?

can't sync. with my laptop

Hello All,
I don't know what is the problem. It seems ok for the first time after i installed the version 4.0 that comes with the CD. It works fine. But for the second time, it just 'connecting'. Have gone thru' the troubleshooting processes but without success. Also tried to install the new version 4.1 but won't work.
Pls can someone help me on this.

does it sync over BT?
i had the same problem before & i still do, but soem other guy here in the forum said it worked for him when he uninstalled AS then reinstalled it again.
try it, it might work with you.
until now i'm still stuck with BT syncing, i cannot sync over USB.
i still get "connecting" message all the time with no progress.
Hi Guys
I had EXACTLY the same problem, alhough I could not get BT to work but could get IRDA to work.
Here is what I THINK the problem is, by the way i-mate were useless it was a colleague at work that had finally found this problem on his device.
WM5 devices when connecting via USB create a NETWORK. Strange but true.
SO, open Control panels, open Network Connections.
Attach your K-JAM (or other WM5 device) you SHOULD see a new network get created with a random number at the end of it (the number changes depending on the USB port you use so you MAY need to do this procedure again if you connect via a different USB port).
Get the properties of this new network when it opens you should see that NONE of the services are checked.
Check them all.
Close.
Everything SHOULD suddently spring into action, it certainly did for me.
It appears that some PC config's (all our work ones) need to be configured this way were as otheres set themselves up fine.
Let me know if this works.
Cheers.
Robin
the wierest thing just happened.
i wanted to try your solution, i opened the network connections folder, connected my kjam, and for my surprise it just connected without me doing anything, and i had it sycronised over the USB.
BUT, the wierd thing, is even though i have the connection, and it is syncronizing with my laptop, i don't have the connection icon on my kjam, instead i had this message (attached).
what does this mean?
Don't know, I have never seen this!!!!

the strange things keeps coming...
when i wanted to sync my device again this evening, my whole laptop freezes without any responce.
can someone here tell me what's the problem i'm having here? & how to solve it?
i don't wonna format my PC over this.
thanks all in advance.
I have noticed that the synchronisation only happens properly if I connect to the SAME usb port. If I connect to another port, the laptop picks up the connection but won't synchronise.
Connect to the same USB port and voila!!
Hope that helps.
See my reply earlier.
Each different USB port you connect too AS creates a NEW network with a different number on the end of it.
You have to open the network properties for all the networks (with numbers) you intend suing and make sure all the properties are checked.
I use 3 different USB ports on my laptop depending on wether it is docked at home the office or undocked.
I have had to do this procedure for each port but now they ALL work smoothly every time.
Regards.
Robin
i did connect it to the same USB port, but no luck there, the same problem. i uninstalled the AS twice and re-installed it but it's the same.
hi.
i have tried yr solution by ticking all the boxes in the 'new' network properties. won't work though. the sync. icon shows 'connecting'.

Strange.
I know a number of people this worked for.
You could/should also try disabling your firewall and giving it another go.

Phone auto connecting to random Wifi access points

All,
My brother has a T-Mobile stock ROM HD 2 and he has the issue where device would just randomly connect to available access points, including a BT OpenZone and a Netgear home router. The worst thing is that if the device is connected to his home [preferred] router, it would all of a sudden connect to the BTOpenZone one and totally disable all activity and actually bring up their registration page, etc. It connects to this [random] Netgear one when he is at his in-laws place.
Just to say that these access points have never previously been added as a preferred network or otherwise.
I used to have a WM device (on to Android now) but never used the WiFi connection, so perhaps I'm missing something obvious (?!)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
This is normal behaviour, if you leave your wifi on. It automatically searches for and tries to connect to any nearby wifi sources. All you have to do is turn wifi off. Just turn it on when you want to use it.
There's a toggle app in one of the stickied threads (cabs & tips)
Must go into the WIFI settings and after couple of Nexts, Uncheck the /Automaticaly Find The Key/ or something like that..also you can go into WIFI options and remove a certain routers setting, just play around a bit with the settings and you will find it.

Surely it's not default behaviour? I vaguely remember that it automatically searches for wifi APs (if the WiFi is on) but never knew it automatcally connected without you asking it to do so, especially if you have never connected to that AP before or previously added it as a preferred network.

I shall have to give that a go and look for that setting.
I have the device in front of me now, but fail to find any settings to disable/prevent this behaviour.

[Q] USB Tethering not Working

Hi All,
First of all, sorry if this matter has been discussed already, but i searched a lot but didn't find a similar issue.
I've been using android for the past few months on my HD2 and I was using USB tethering to connect to the internet at home and surf the web. But recently, when connecting the HD2 to the PC and selecting the USB tethering option, its connects (the network adapter pops up in network connections window in Windows 7 as "HTC Remote NDIS based Device") and when its trying to identify the network its gets disconnected (the adapter "HTC Remote NDIS based Device" disappears ) and the Autoplay option pops up to view my contents of the SD card.
I thought that it was something wrong with the ROM, but i installed several ROMs but i still have the same problem.
I don't know what happened but it was working till recently.
If anyone can explain why this is or give me any resolution i would be very pleased!!!
Thanks!!!
I have the same exact problem with Desire Z.
I fixed it! I fiddled around with Winamp on my phone and entered the settings menu and there was a setting called "Enable auto-mount" which effects the USB connection automation. It was that Winamp's setting which caused the problem for me. So go through your apps and settings and try to take off all USB related automation from those settings.

Problems using remote access to phone

I tried a few different remote access programs to access files on my phone and all of them failed to work properly. Programs I've tried include the following:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/remote-desktop/pl.androiddev.mobiletab
http://www.appbrain.com/app/remote-web-desktop/net.xdevelop.rm
http://www.appbrain.com/app/wireless-file-transfer/com.lextel.transmit
Is there some kind of "firewall" that might be blocking access on my phone? This seems to happen on different ROMs so it doesn't seem to be an isolated issue.
I even tried different browsers on my Windows 7 computer (Firefox and Internet Explorer) both of which failed (page not found).
Anyone else has similar problems or know of a solution?
Thanks.
Does anyone have a similar problem? Stuck with this now. Thanks.
Most of those kind of apps require your phone and computer to be on the same WiFi network, is that the case?
Thanks for the reply. Yes, the last one (Wireless File Transfer) actually won't work unless I'm connected to WiFi. Once I have the connection, the button is not blocked allowing me to enable it. I waited over a minute to see if I can connect from my browsers (Firefox & IE). Both say page not found. I can't even ping it which is weird.
The remote desktop seems to work directly via 3G. It gave me my phone's IP which I tried connecting to and once again, got a page not found.
Can anyone try any of those programs on their HD2 to see if it works? Not sure if it could be the ROM I'm using, but it's the HD2ONE ROM using Clockwork Recovery.
I'm using HyperDroidGBX NAND ROM and still experience this problem. Remote desktop apps (whether it's to connect to a desktop or have a desktop connect to the phone) are not working. I can't enable file sharing apps either (ex: File Expert).
I also want to use the wireless tethering feature. Since I've seen most of the ROMS don't have this working properly, I downloaded the Android Wireless Tether and have the same issue with it working. My computer could connect to the phone without any issues but I can't get any webpage...I could however ping them (ex: google.com). I tried the suggestiongs at that webpage including changing channels and removing the encryption passphrase.
Is there some kind of limitation by the phone or computer? I tried this both using WiFi and on the phone's data service with no luck.
Thanks.

[Q] How to avoid automatic ScreenMirroring to the last known Mirroring Device?

Hi,
I have a test setup with 2 Samsung HomeSync Boxes; each one connected to a display.
When I manually connect a Mobile to Box1, the Mobile content is mirrored to Display1.
In a second run I'd like to connect to Box2. But unfortunately a connection is automatically established to Box1 (since this was the last known connection, I guess). I have to cancel the connection process and have to select the other box. I really need to avoid this.
Is it possible to somehow avoid the automatic connection? My hope was that it would be sufficient to clear the app cache and/or data. But it didn't solve the problem. Any ideas where the information about the last connected mirroring device might be stored? By clearing this information I'd assume that I'd have to select a Box by myself.
Thanks for your help!
Kathrin
PS: I'm also working with the Allshare Framework from Samsung, but it doesn't provide anything useful for my problem...
*bump
Have you tried tapping the phone on the box you want to control so it connects via NFC?
