I give up any advice would be very appreciated.
My S4 will just randomly go dark and appears to be powered off 2 to 3 times per day (All Bluetooth and WiFi show disconnected). It seems to be random when this happens. I have tried everything form flashing back to 4.2 stock (odin) to new kernels, modems and it just doesn't matter. I have also tried TW Roms, GE Roms, and AOSP roms still the same random lock ups. At first I though it was a app but even with clean install it will happen, but it appears to be less frequent.
Also the phone will not power on unless I do one of 2 things, Plug it into a power source, or take out the battery and hold the power button down for a few seconds with the battery removed. I can hold the power button down for 5 minutes and it will do nothing with the battery installed.
I don't' have any experience with a crash loggers but any advice would be great. I'm worried this is something psychically wrong with the device.
Thanks

hey to all, its my first msg here so ill try to describe as much as i can
I'm reading in XDA for a while, almost every question i had i found the answer here somewhere so thanks all all of you!
i have the p7500 tab with JellyBeanRom ICS v6 XXLQ8 with the A1 kernel (installed it few days ago, till then i was with JellyBeanRom ICS v5.1 i think)
Two days ago i found my tab off, i tried to turn it on and no respond, only after at least 10-15 tries of holding the power and vol+ or vol- and just holding each one of them separately for 20-60 seconds one the combinations boot it on.
I used the tab like nothing happened , fixed permissions and it worked fine until the screen went off (i think only when it was in 'deep sleep' cos i turned off the screen few times only for few sec and it was ok). sine that moment the tab was off again for 12 hours, only today again after lots of tries and strange combinations i succeed to boot it again.
I installed the rom again, wiped every option, fixed permissions again and used again the tab for 45 min (while he was with screen on) and it worked ok, connected it to the pc and it was fine, i went to a meeting with the tab in my bag and i got out and the tab is still off.
when its off, the computer doesn't recognize it, the tab is no charging since the morning and still nothing.
any idea please? i have a cwm backup that maybe can help me but need to boot first
If you were having stange problems with turning it on, why didn't you look into it the first, or second time?
Anyway, this happened to me on my tab using one of the JB roms.
-Have you tried charging with charger and not the PC?
-When you plug it in to the wall, do you get the battery icon, even for a short few seconds?
Just to confirm, you have tried holding the power button for 30-40 seconds and it doesn't do anything? Do you feel it vibrate at all?
i didnt thought to look it up at the first time cos i thought its only a glitch cos i turned it on again and it worked fine, the 2nd time i reinstalled the rom and wiped everything..
-Have you tried charging with charger and not the PC? Yes, tried few chargers and 2 different cables
-When you plug it in to the wall, do you get the battery icon, even for a short few seconds? nope, didnt got anything, no battery icon.
Just to confirm, you have tried holding the power button for 30-40 seconds and it doesn't do anything? Do you feel it vibrate at all? yes i tried it, i even used a tape to hole the power button for few hours, and also to hold power and vol-.. and no vibration at all
if ill take it to samsung lab, they have any way to know that i changed rom? cos if its off, i can tell them that i didn't changed a thing and like this the warranty still good
please help..?
If it's still not turning on then I suspect it's a hardware issue. If you can get it to turn on again flash a stock rom and test.
If it turns off again your only option is to send it in for repair. Alot of times they will fix it and not care about the rom.

every now and then when i pull my Verizon S4 out of my front pocket (screen off), it seems locked up when i try to wake it. sometimes the bottom buttons are lit up (menu, back) but the phone is unresponsive. i hit the power button a few times, or hold it for a while, press home, or whatever, and it generally reboots eventually. any idea what could be going on?
could this be a samsung sensor that it is in my pocket? i don't think it has ever happened outside of my pocket, but is has happened 3-4 times now.
it never feels warm, so i don't think it is overheating. i have a TPU case, so i don't think the power button is getting hit (although maybe it is).
i'm on Beans 6 with the KT kernel, but i think (i'm not positive) that it happened even when on stock.
Iv had very similar problems, and have been doing some reading, and it looks like it could be battery related... some one on another forum (could be this one cant remember) said that they had the same issue with there stock battery... I have just replaced my battery yesterday, ill post back later 2day\2moro.
For me when it was in this locked up mode and i connected the charger, the state of the phone was like it was fully off, the green battery charging icon would be shown on the screen, and then i could use the power button to turn the phone back on.

interesting. let me know what you find.
since this is happening when m phone is asleep (unlike many complaints about it happening when using specific apps) I am curious if it may be related to my KT kernel tweaks, which i copied from an expert, and which set certain CPU parameters to save battery when the phone is asleep. i'm going to try reverting those to default, or maybe try a different kernel.
Hey Mate, so far the phone has been real solid, iv had no lockup or anything with this new battery... still could be coincidence.. but its working great!
I was running this custom rom beautifully fine for over a year now since I got my phone.
Recently I've had so many problems. My phone just randomly shutdowns down and it's very hard to get it to boot up again. If i hold down the power nothing happens or I just get 1 vibration. Taking the battery in and out doesn't do anything. I left it for 5 minutes out and put battery back in it just vibrates a little (samsung logo apepars for a second) and nothing happens, even when I hold power button. Can't get into download mode either.
I tried 2 different batteries too.
Really not sure what to do. I tried a factory reset a whilst back and i thought everything was okay but now it just won't even boot up.
Whenevr it does decide to turn on it just dies after a random period of time.

emm.. your description is confusing a bit... does your phone boots, or not?
If not, call the Samsung service centre (if I'm right, one is in Milton Keynes even, if not, there is another one in Derby).
If it does: try factory wipe and pure stock reflash.
hello dear xda,
today i have suddenly experienced my phone dying :
it is constantly trying to turn on, going to samsung logo and then turning off, as long as the battery is in it does this without me touching anything..
even if i try to boot into download mode it goes into it for 5-10 secs while i cant control volume buttons at all and reboots again, while i cannot boot at all into recovery
volume buttons seem to work because it lets me go into downloadmode confirmation screen ( to either reboot or continue )
im thinking battery might have died but im not sure.. because it might be the rom just bootlooping
i have searched the forums and internet for a solution but did not find any
i was on ressurection remix rom with GALAXY S 4 I9500 variant
please help and thanks in advance! :crying::crying:
What you're describing sounds a lot like your power button is stuck in the pressed position.

that does not seem to be the case sadly..
thanks for replying
Unfortunately, it seems to be a hardware issue, rather than software. I have installed tons of custom ROMS on my S4 so far, and I haven't had any issues of that kind. Something is wrong with the hardware I guess...
As I said, I'm pretty sure it is the power button. I've seen this behavior before.
When the battery is dead the phone won't even turn on.

Just had the same problem, re-soldering new power button fixed.

Definitely a power button issue. The giveaway is that you say the device starts this boot/restart cycle as soon as you put the battery in (without you pressing anything).
No two ways about it....
It *IS* a faulty power button.
I have seen this issue on other Samsung devices too, and every time it's been a faulty power button.
My last s4 seemed to have the power button problem too, would reboot, logo, reboot.
Could interrupt the rebooting by holding volume down to go into flash mode, would remain stable until battery eventually died.
Couldn't boot into custom recovery, with volume up, which almosts confirms the theory, because holding power button down may reboot it from recovery.
Occasionally, I could get it to completely bootup, use it for 3-20minutes before it would shutdown.
I used multimeter to confirm operation of the switch was correct. Seemed to work fine. But I never actually removed the switch.
Decided to just replace the logic board and deal with it at a later date.
Reading about this again, I might go ahead and desolder the button, this weekend, and check functionality.
My conclusion was that I had some degradation in the internal memory storage, that affected the recovery/bootup or some heat damage
My device first decided to shutdown and go into reboot loop whilst using it on a long journey, I was using Google navigation and youtube in multiwindow mode, and the device was toasty warm.
@reluctant_traveller your issue is probably not the power button unless you have a fault with the button that is intermittent (extremely unusual..but not unheard of). Faulty power buttons are *usually* in one of two states...either open circuit or closed circuit. In one state the faulty button will cause a continuous reboot/shutdown/reboot cycle every 10-15 seconds until the battery is removed, in the other state, you'll get no reaction at all from pressing the button. The fact that you say you had the device up and running for between 3 and 20 minutes points to it being something else.
Yep, I keep meaning to investigate further before binning the board, I will definately grab my hot air gun and try and see if I can get it to power cycle from adb mode.
It is possible that the thermal pads are not taking the heat away from the cpu, possibly due to movement or overstress.
The screen did used to get very hot around the position the cpu would of been.
Hi there,
My Note 4 started playing up 3 weeks ago, it started to lag, freeze and reboot. I managed to bring it back to function as my daily driver (handy as I didn't have another phone!) with the Wake Lock app. Sometimes when I'd try to boot it up, it would be glitchy and it would take a while to fire up again, most often I'd have to boot into TWRP and wipe the cache, but then it would be fine. The wake lock app was set to auto run and all was good, apart from a major hit in battery life.
Today I started to set up my replacement N910F (bought used). It too was running stock MM, I'd rooted this one too and installed xposed. All was going well until I went to remove the sd card from the first phone. When I went to reboot.....nothing.
I tried to remove the battery and hold down the power button and then try again. Nothing. Tried holding down the power button for a few minutes with the battery removed and then trying again. Nothing. I even tried holding it down for a couple of minutes, putting the battery in for 10 mins and then trying to power it up. Nothing.
It doesn't show up on my PC or with Odin. Nothing happens when I plug it into the charger. I've tried 3 different batteries. All with the same end result. Nothing. :crying:
Is there ANYTHING I can do?

Could be battery is dead or your device is hard bricked.
You might wanna see link below to unbrick method

It's not the battery as I've tried the 3 that were working with the phone originally, and I've just tried the one form the "new" phone.
After looking through the link, that doesn't look like an option - the phone needs to be detected by the pc. Mine was connecting fine earlier, so I know it's not a lack of drivers. I makes a noise when plugged in, but then isn't shown.

It should be detected in device manager under ports section.
If the pc makes a sound when the device is connected, that means the device is fine. You can try the debrick method given on my thread.
Try it and report.

Don't ask me how but.....it suddenly came to life this morning! I put a battery in it and tried to go into recovery, and voila! No rhymne nor reason to it but she's up and running for the mo!
Thanks for the suggestion yashthemw but thankfully I've not had to try it!
