Currently only CPU overclocking is available on custom kernels, but trust me it's not worth it, it will just heat up faster and then throttle down.

Not sure about the others, but on dorimanx UVin is not recommended. In my experience, undervolting doesn't do much anyways. I'm getting battery life that's comparable to stock on Doris 6.2.

You can try on jb source based roms, but on 4.4 based roms, new power management drivers are very sensitive to uv.

This is with OC at 2.4 GHz

progress on 1.6 ghz overclock

I know team whiskey has made a kernel to overclock the vibrant to 1.6 ghz already but the kernel is malfunctioning. Now that it has been scrapped is there any more progress on this overclock? The mytouch 4g is beating us at 1.7 ghz!
The Hummingbird cpu doesn't have the overclocking head room that the Scorpion cpu does. I doubt there will be a kernel with a real 1.6ghz stable clock for a long time if ever.

I would probably worry more about my CPU dying prematurely due to the higher voltage and amp passing through it than the replaceable battery.
is it even necessary to have such a high overclock besides for e-bragging on a cellphone (lol) ?

Yeah.. I have to agree with the other guy, they are two diff processors.
I don't think we're going to need a 1.6 OCed. Well for me all i need is my Master's Axura.

Depends where he sees the increase. With a 1.2ghz I notice an increase in 3d frame rates. I don't think there where any gpu tweaks in the kernel, just the gpu is limited by the cpu.

You dont flash, you put it in your SD card and use a file manager to install it within Android, not CW.

LOL im an idiot
I've been following this and other threads about over and underclocking CPU and having now rooted I'm curious. I also don't want to be one of those people where a little knowledge is more dangerous than a lot. Is there truly an inherent danger or is it people pushing the device to its extremes trying to maximize its abilities? What is the overall difference and noticeabilty? Thanks!

I have zero issues with my overclock. And actually I just have it to take advantage of the undervolt and overclock when the screen is off. I'm using the kernel included with syndicate and it works great and is very stable.

Best rom for battery life and speed?

I started out with cm7 but the battery life was so-so. I tried a few other roms and kernel variations but nothing really stood out. My last rom was oxygen 2.1.4 using the netarchy kernel, but I was only getting about 1200ish in quadrant and oxygen seemed a little unstable.
I went back to using the new cm7 RC and the trinity UV kernel and the battery seems OK and i am getting around 2700 in quadrant.
Are there any other rom/kernel combinations that i should give a shot?

Don't base the ROMs speed on Quadrant alone, Oxygen is really fast.
Don't let an outdated benchmark test decieve you.

Correction: Dont let benchmarks deceive you.
Benchmarks regardless of what it is is pointless.
It was more that oxygen seemed unstable on my phone. I might give it another go if the new cm7 battery life sucks.

You might want to check that out. CM7 battery is fine for me. Like I said, Netarchy's 1.3.6 kernel (or 1.3.4) is a NECESSITY. use that and undervolt it using proton voltage control or setcpu and use the suggested volts suggested by proton (-20 across the board)

Post your highest stable overclock thread!

We all need one and the Xperia Play hasn't got one, so I thought I'd start one for you guys.
On my Xperia Play R800i I'm happily running at 1.8ghz and I'm considering pushing it further. How are you guys doing?
1.5-1.6 here... I'm trying to push it so I can get full speed on TigerMAME with sound, and I'm not really noticing any improvement. Maybe I need to look at trying out some different governers.
Thought everyone's went to 2.0ghz stable, i think it could do more tbh
Well anyway mine is 2ghz stable using the smartass governer
Using what to overclock? Does the Play have an OC kernel stock, or have you done something else to it? I'm a noob with the Play so I haven't discovered all the goodies yet.

What games are you having issues with? I am using TigerArcade 2.2.1-FULL on the stock kernel and not noticed any sound issues
i think almost everyone gets 2.0ghz stable, but i run 1.6 ghz. mainly because the improvement 2hz is next to nothing (about 4%-ish on fpsece) and it makes my phone warm when playing.

Can I overclock my RAZR m?

Hey guys, I'm on stock 4.1.2 and it's running well. But I was wondering, now that the bootloader is unlocked (or just in general) is there a way to overclock my RAZR on the stock ROM?
The phone is fast but with the great battery life I wouldn't mind some extra horsepower throughout the day.
Thanks in advance

Sick app, i saw the governor tweaks but i didn't see a straight up overclock?
Also, do you know any solid ways to tweak our resolution? How does that work, really? How can you get a better image out of your screen that way?
Thanks in advance

You need a kernel capable of overclocking to overclock, so keep an eye on kernel development. It's sure to pick up the Razr hd family now that we've unlocked the BL. Also, underclocking > overclocking. I've got an ATT HTC One X, which has the same processor and, thanks to the magic of project butter, I've underclocked as low as 1.3ghz (the lowest current kernels are capable of) without seeing any difference in performance. I do, however, get much better battery

A kernel is like the bridge between software and hardware, it's the Rosetta Stone from which the two communicate.
It affects processor clock speed, screen resolution, volume level, etc.
