Hello all.
Just seeking input from someone smarter than me, as this is waaaay above my paygrade.
I recently flashed a kk4.4.3 rom. As per everyone's advice, I also flashed the 1.02 radio, as the general concensus is that you might have wifi trouble otherwise.
What's troubling me is that I actually had trouble with signal bars (ie not wifi) with the 1.02 radio. So I went back to .33 and my reception has never been better AND I haven't had any problem with wifi at all.
So, my question is how come it seems to work backwards for me than the majority? And most importantly, will I experience trouble by using a 4.4.2 radio on my 4.4.3 system?

Don't trust the signal bars. Trust the dbm reading in about phone and status. Bars are very innacurate reading of actual signal strength.

Oh, but with 1.02 I had no signal most of the time. None.

What radio would you recommend me flashing when using CyanogenMod Rom..Anyone have any ideas or input
I would recommend you try all 3 radios and see what one works best for you. For me the latest one is the best, but i still have some problems with 3G connection. The latest also gives me 3G in areas i never got 3G before too. I compared this with my G1 seating next to my N1. My G1 would have 100% all bars in 3G where my N1 would have about 1 to 2 bars less. Over all the latest radio has been the best. Only thing is is that for some ppl the older radios work better. You just need to try out all 3 and see what one works best for you.
It might also depend on where you are. I am in Australia, the original radio was crap, it cut out 3g and drained my battery to all hell in the process. I updated to ERE27, and i have no problems at all, and no desire to move to ERE36B, in case it is not as good. 3g never cuts out, i am in an office with concrete walls and still have 4 bars. try ERE27, if that doesn't satisfy you, then by all means move to ERE36B, but it is not necessary in all cases.
I would recommend searching and perhaps reading any of the other threads titled "Radio".
I flashed this to my Eris and it seems to have faster data speeds and better reception.

i definitely wouldn't go flashing any 'ole radio just because its available for other phones. proceed at your own risk everyone...his boost could easily be coincidence. youre not gonna get that much change.

As long as its CDMA its good.

This radio works fine on the Eris. Still, use caution when flashing it and if your phone explodes don't spam the dev forum asking for help.
No more not being able to make/receive calls as of yet. Also it seems my wifi tether works now but may have been the new ivan rom that came out.
I recommend against flashing non-Eris specific radios.
Do it at your own risk.

It COULD brick your phone... I told myself I would never flash radio images when I gained root. I'm fine with roms and themes thank you very much.

Yeah, that's not true dude. Flashing an incorrect radio update CAN completely brick your phone. Flashing a radio update updates your SPL. If the SPL isn't compatible with your phone/kernel, it could very well completely ruin your phone beyond recoverable.
You're lucky, but for future reference, it's a really bad idea to go flashing any ol' radio update except one that's been tested and working with your phone and kernel.

so awesome
This is why I felt comfortable with flashing the radio...
The ONLY reason I flashed this radio is due to the fact that others did this with no bad side effects (so far). Also, toastcfh has tested other heroc radios on an Eris with no bad side effects (so far) as well as done some good research for us by flashing the radios and seems to be quite knowledgeable when it comes to them.
I'm not authorizing that you should go flashing "any 'ol radio" but heroc and desirec radios seem to be created with the intention of being used on Sprint and Verizon according to research by toastcfh.
toastcfh said:
now for the question about why some radios say heroc instead of eris...
the heroc radio are just that... heroc radios from sprint. its a cdma radio so it works the same as verizon radio. dont believe me?! do a strings | grep on all the radios and u will see they are all using both sprint and verizon logins and such. also as right now im running the latest radio which is the heroc one. everything works fine and its the one ive had best results with on both my Sprint Hero and my wifes Verizon Eris. although others may find better results with other versions.

Just make sure you know that just because it worked for someone else doesn't mean you won't find that underlying control signal some day.
sprint uses sim cards right? the reason im askin is cuz for the hell of it i tried this radio and kept gettin no sim card messege lol i just did a restore . my stupid quesion is , the radio went back to the way it was right? im not gettin the error any more so i guess that answers my question , or could it have did other damage ? thanx for any help

No, only GSM carriers use SIM cards. Sprint is CDMA.
then thats wierd , i kept seeing that messege , i use the nexus lock and when it woke from sleep the error was there until i unlocked it

I believe that was/is a bug with the nexus lock mod. I remember when lwp mod first came out I tried it and noticed the sim card message. I have not gone back to that since so I can't be 100% sure.
well whatever it was it went away after i did a restore so alls good
Is anyone experiencing any issues with this one, I have flashed this radio and my 3G signal is not as good as it used to be.
I have 2 Eris' one stock (baseband 2.32.40.11.09) and one rooted with 2.42.00.03.10. The stock gets 4 3G bars with -70dBm while the rooted Eris gets 2 or less bars with -52 dBm.
From what I'm seeing, 3G speed is also suffering on the Eris with the newer baseband. Can anyone make sense of this?

FWIW, -52dBm is much better than -70dBm.

yeah that's what doesn't make sense to me. the rooted phone says it has a better signal strength, but I'm only getting 2 3G bars (at most!).
I would like to test it but I am unable to find the original 2.32.40.11.09 radio image.
@above
metering has changed in more recent radios. aka bars vs signal strength is different.
soooo is this a yes or no go for flashing?
I tried this out, no noticeable difference in signal strength or speed where I am. Flashed it back to the newest ERIS radio...
Dear all,
just updated my Atrix with Cynogenmod 7.1 build GWK74 (#20).
I noticed that 3G signal seems to be worst than the AT&T 4.5.91 stock one.
My current radio is N_01.77.30P
Should I update the radio with N_01.77.36P one or flash back the original AT&T coming with Gingerbread official OTA update?
I live in Italy and using a 3G only provider (H3G), I'm not sure if this make any difference.
Any "radio" expert advise?
Many thanks!
Max
I'm based in the UK and found that reception with N_01.77.36P was pretty terrible compared to that with N_01.77.30P. Perhaps that is just a problem with my network here, however?
I'm currently using the N_01.100.00R radio and this seems to perform on a par with the N_01.77.30P on my network with good reception.
If you have unlocked your phone's bootloader and have CWM installed, it is very easy to change from one radio to the next so it is worth trying them all out.
Maringer,
thanks for your reply.
I may try to flash a few radio (I'm going to use moto-fastboot tool or CWM Recovery).
I would be nice for Cynogenmod to introduce a sort of monitor of radio signal performances in order to test different radios e.g. for a whole day and check how it goes.
Wonder why N_01.77.36P is "terrible" compared to the old N_01.77.30P...
Anyone knows who develop those radios and their updates?
Any changelog for different builds?
Thanks,
Max
I have had an improvement with the 36P radio, so I would definitely try this first if I were you. Download for me is a wee bit faster on data, but the wake up and connect time for WiFi is much faster now. It's a definite improvement in performance overall, but the data transfer speeds have not changed much.
I'm getting much better reception with 36P, and wifi connect on wake up is pretty much instant now. I would definaitly recommend it over 30P.

+1 same for me
I am on AT&T in Western Massachusetts, and 36P has given me better reception and much faster WiFi on wake.

How does .77.36p compare to the .92 radios?

Hi
I'm having serious problems with my network signal on NY N4.
Its not the sim card as I have tried a few.
The signal drops to zero bars regularly.
I don't want yo send it back as I have a small crack on the back glass case.
Would a custom ROM increase signal or anyway yo fix this?
If I opened it up is there a way of fixing antenna?
I'm loving the phone apart from this.
Thanks
No. The radio deals with reception, not the ROM. Also, I wouldn't touch that antenna. A lot of engineering goes into them. Perhaps an RMA is in order?
Is it just one location that you have this problem? Or do you have the problem everywhere, even where others on the same network have a full signal?

If you don't know what you're doing, dont mess with the antenna. Besides there's no way you can do to it to increase reception.
You can try and add this to your build.prop.

search for the radio zip files and you can flash through recovery twrp or cwm
Signal strength on mobile phones might be exactly the same, but the signal bars display a different amount of bars.
Hi,
A simple question here: will root phone affect the 3G signal strength?
I've heard that only flash radio will affect signal strength but it appears to me that after root (and root only) my GS4 I'm having a lot of signal issues. I'm thinking about unroot and see what will happen.
What do you think?
Thanks,
Ami
