[Q] Sdcard mount issue - Source building - Omni Q&A

Hey guys, I built Omni for the HTC One XL. Everything so far works, i.e boots up fine, data, wifi, etc. the major issue I'm having (that's also preventing me to release it) is that my internal storage won't mount properly. I was wondering if someone could help out and point me in the right direction

First place to investigate would probably be /common-device/rootdir/ folder; examine init.whatever.rc, fstab.whatever and twrp.fstab.

I tried the max partition fix that was used on the Ville but it simply broke the boot up

[Android] Tattoo and new rootfs

Okay, I finally cleaned up what I've been working on the past few weeks
New sqsh with tattoo senseui!
so this is senseui from the tattoo, so it runs at native resolution 240x320. I have not tested it at *any* other resolution.
I haven't done a lot of testing so I can't guarantee everything works... ie I think that bluetooth might be broken? who knows... other folks please post your experiences!
Please note: I *have* seen the whole thing crash due to WifiService dying on my vogue once... and I've also seen a hard lockup on the polaris once... not sure why or workaround, but it doesn't seem to be commonplace.
I use the tattoo.user.conf and I *don't* use rosie, and it runs nice and speedy... YMMV.
New rootfs that cleans up a *lot* of little things... you can now use the volume-down installer to *update* your nand partitions and back up your nand data! (you first have to have a the nand flash complete before this will work, and you need to use the rootfstonand with the updated rootfs)
Maybe I'll post some screenshots? who knows...
Everything is HERE
EDIT: Forgot the most important part... Credits!
This build is almost entirely from the Belgian HTC Click image posted somewhere out there. Lots of time was spent getting the RIL to talk to the phone application without crashes, but it seems somewhat stable now.
At my disposal I had donut and tattoo builds from enatefox, zenulator, plemen, and maybe a couple others.
Some bits needed to be swapped out to work, and that took the bulk of my time... oh well
I'll also give some creds to the folks over in kaiserland, but I'm not sure who (sorry).
Thanks muchly! Been beating my brains out trying to dyi a port of Tattoo and you've done all the hard work. Made my day, now I can go to sleep....
Trying this out tomorrow. I'll write about anything I see. Nice job.
Thanks Vilord
I'm a big fan of tattoo native resolution senseui.
testing.

i'm using haret and no paritions, works perfect!
i wish i could put it on nand, but i'm using a NIKE and the NBH is for vogue...
NICE JOB VILORD!
Hi,.
Thanks vilord, this is the best build with sense that i have tried.
I have the mount system error the first time i try to boot it, the second time it boot without problem.
Im wrting this from this build
arleybarros: what is the state of android on NIKE at this point? Do you still have no vibrate?
all: I'm still not 100% sure why the installer's choking, but I'll poke it when I get home (I still need to partition the SD on my POLA200, so I should be able to see exactly what you see when I do it)
Sigh, more user freindly
I really don't mean to sound a negative note, your hard work , along with the other devs is sooo appreciated and admired. But for the many newbies that are out here, drooling other the new toys you guys are providing, I would really like to see complete bundles, which are updated as needed, with maybe a version number assigned to each updated build. Because of the modular nature of the OS, it is far to easy to to mismatch components resulting is a royal mess, and a real bad taste for potential users.
Or am I just full of it?
no you're completely right.
Once I get things ironed out with the installer, and after I've gotten some more feedback, I'll put it together with two zip downloads, one for NAND installation and one for haret/SD installation.

Since the vibration was disabled (2009-09-22) all the builds works almost like vogue, except for:
Camera: never worked, maybe because the drivers are diferent or because nike camera max resolutuion is 2MP (force close)
Bluetooth: never worked, maybe drivers
Vibration: disabled
everythig else works perfect.

I am really looking forward to this, but get the same result as lauyanyameric on my Kaiser, afterwards I am dropped to shell .... Anything I can do to help debug?
Tried it without partition, and I get data error and it created a 34 mb data.img.
Tried with a blank data.img (no partitions) and I was able to boot!
Grateful for your work! Thanks.
try formating your sd card again...
So far, so great.
Running via Haret and this is working superbly. Everything that should be working, is working.
So far have tested audio, data, GPS, camera (via Camera Pro), and apps such as Voice Search, Exchange Sync, Market and they all work and are quite responsive.
Noticed a few rosie reloads after using memory intensive apps, so I added a 32mb swap in the conf file. So far no more rosie reloads.
Also, the USB to PC app doesn't appear to like my work machine. Not sure if this is an issue with the desktop or the app.
Will be flashing to NAND after a bit more testing.
Thanks again Jesse!
Cheers
Nick
First off thanks for all the hard work you and others have done bringing android to the vogue. I have donut running off of nand right now and love it but am wanting to try this build but have no idea how to reflash it on there. i have tried searching and searching but i havent found a good answer on how to do it.

Thank you I think doing this will add a layer of usability to the releases, and gain a greater community of users as a result. Personally I would rather have releases further apart in time with this kind of thing rather than a rush to try the newest toy.

[Q] Motorola Flipout rooted. How to apps2sd?

The Motorola Flipout is fairly easy to root, at least now. Universal Androot (get it here) works.
I am thinking about moving apps to the sd card. However, since I haven't reflashed the phone, and I don't have a ROM for it, I'd like to do it without reflashing. Is that possible?
If I partition an SD card correctly (ext3), copy all of /data onto that partition, and then mount that partition over /data, will that work? Or do I have to mount the card before the phone boots?
Or is it better to just copy /data/data, and mount the partition over /data/data?
It seems to me that mounting over a directory, as opposed to creating a link is least invasive, because on reboot the phone is as it was before. Is this right?
If I have to mount the sdcard before the phone boots, can I just edit one of the init scripts, or is that more complicated? I read about editing init.rc and repacking boot.img
Oh, HOWTO unpack edit and repack boot images seems to give good instructions. On the Flipout, boot is mtd4, and recovery is mtd5.
If I only modify boot, I can't brick my phone too badly? Since I haven't changed recovery, I should be able to recover (?). Can I create an update.zip that flashes the old boot.img and undoes my changes in case something goes wrong?
I just got the flipout from rogers.. Is there anyplace that has a development forum for it? And does it have the efuse ? If it does, is it possible to do what was done with the droid X to it?
How did go so far ghostwheel? I'm eager to hear what else you have figured out.
You use App2Card.apk at below for app2sd without flash:
http://www.tinhte.vn/f280/app2card-2-4-4-20-9-cai-dat-ung-dung-len-nho-phan-vung-456586/
Requires: just a rooted phone
Steps:
- install app
- click Menu / Partition button then use slide bars to create ext2 for your sd card if it hasn't been splited yet
- click Install App2card button
- phone will be rebooted and you just taste app on sd after then
Note: above page has further instruction but it is vietnamese, you must use google translate to get it. This app runs perfectly on my Milestone.

Hi,
I'd really like to help with that (I'm a confirm dev. for Cliq and CliqXT phones).
Hopefully we can do great things like we did for Cliq and CLiqXT (upgrade to 2.1!). (check my work at http://bit.ly/adlxmod).
First thing would be to generate a system dump (a dump of all the files in the /system partition). Hopefully we then could generate a custom recovery to flash on the phone, and then custom roms, either base on the dump you provide or other roms from other files. Contact me on twitter @adumont (say it's for Flipout) and I'll guide you to generate the dump!
Looking forward to do great things for that litle phone!
I'm in touch with adlxdum to give him my dump but I think we should start a separated thread like "Custom rom, modding (work in progress)" so that we can follow adlxdum work.
And...thx in advance ;-)

Worked!
I couldn't repartition the SD card with the program, so I had to partition it myself. But once that was done, thing seem to work well. A bit slower...
I'm not totally sure how to use the app. Internal seems to still be full, but ext2 on the SD is quite empty. I can't seem to be able to tell if an app is installed to internal or external.
I have to try and install some more apps to see if I run out of memory.
Thanks!!
I'm guessing the flipout and charm are almost identical phones?
My wife has a charm and i'm one of those "i'm not a developer, but I'd like to help" guys.

Yes, I think they are very similar.
One thing that I'm interested in is the accelerometer. On the Flipout, most apps that use it are twisted - for example wikitude, and many games (labyrinth lite works!) I wonder if things work on the charm...
the charm has the same issue.

Hi ghostwheel
I've tried installing app2card, but I'm having some problems. I got the new version 2.7.2.
As you said, the partition doesnt work. For me it says sd card is full but its empty...
How did you manually partition it?
I've found some tutorials but it was for other phones and they required a custom rom...
I partitioned the card using a linux computer, with the program fdisk.
I allocated 2GB to a partition of type ext2. But, I think there are many alternatives for partitioning a disk, see this page:
http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f9/how-to-create-ext2-partition-14232/
Wow great link! Many different options! Will try this as soon as I get a micro sd card adapter. Thanks!
You mentioned in your old post that you were having problems using app2card, That you weren't sure if it was working. Have you been able to use it since? Is it working well? and if not have you found an alternative?
I just started using this phone and I'm almost running out of memory... this is quite annoying!

Yes, I was having problems. Mainly when restarting the phone, sometimes oodles of apps don't work, including launcher pro, and app2card. You have to remember that when the phone reboots and seems to have FC problems, don't chose any home screen as the default, in case it crashes, and keep a spare app2card to reinstall on the sdcard. I think "severe" problems I had only twice, or so.
So, I have almost no problems. Most of the time it works really well. So well, in fact, that I'm a bit afraid to upgrade it, in case something breaks. And, I totally forgot what it is like to have to delete apps to install another one.
I have more of the opposite problem - finding an app among all those installed takes a realllly long time if you forgot its name. Apps organizer helps.
hello, i am new and i have flipout to test in poland orange network, i just root him using 1st post in this forum, great job! thanks
OK, I am having some problems with the current version of app2card. As I said, sometimes when I turn the device off and back on, app2card fails, and many apps give a FC which starting. Then one needs to fix the apps from app2card. It seems that once that is done, some apps lose some of their data. So, for example, droidwall (excellent program!!), lost all firewall data. I'll have to check if newer versions of app2card don't have this problem. It doesn't happen very often.
Instructions to root Flipout
Hi - I'd consider myself a newbie regarding rooting. I just got the AT&T Flipout - I really like the form factor. I just tried running the Universal Androot from my phone but got the security warning message about only being able to install from trusted sources.
Can someone point me in the right direction please?
Many thanks!
it says that with a lot of apps installed like that, including gmote that I downloaded from the developers site. Just look at what you're downloading like you would on any machine
go to settings > Application and tick on unknown sources to be able to install it.

VEGAn-TAB has reached BETA STATUS - We need your help!

Roebeet, Rothnic, and Myself have been hard at work to bring you what we hope will be the killer ROM for our G-Tablets. Now that we have hit BETA status, we are interested in hearing your feedback including issues and feature requests.
The projects git home is here: https://github.com/gojimi/VEGAn-TAB
(here you will find all project code and mods. we are using a free account there and space is limited so ACTUAL RELEASES will happen in the Thread that Roebeet has already started)
Issues and feature requests can be followed and posted here: https://github.com/gojimi/VEGAn-TAB/issues
(please read before posting new issues or features request so we don't fill up with duplicates. you may also vote up the issues you feel are most important and we can concentrate on those areas based on your feedback.)
The wiki for VEGAn-TAB will be here: https://github.com/gojimi/VEGAn-TAB/wiki
(there is nothing there yet.... but as we approach a production stable ROM we may be adding some info here)
Thank you for all your support and patience as we iron out some of the more major issue. (ie. SSL! phew so glad we figured that one out..... such a simple mistake too!)
I am usually buried in CODE or REWORK of current framework that I don't come up for air to check XDA much.... But I do watch the GIT Repo and I will try to make a greater effort to keep an eye on this post.
For questions to issues that you are having but others aren't your answer may still be best answered in Roebeet's post.

I can't get the Ad Hoc Tether to work from my rooted Hero phone. I had it working on the Zpad with this fix: http://www.chinadigitalcomm.com/android-a81/a81e-connect-to-ad-hoc-wifi-t1413.html
Any thoughts? Anyone else able to connect to an Ad Hoc Tether?
Edit (Fix) I was using the wrong fix. The fix it to apply the wpa6_adhoc-signed.zip
This was the fix I initially did on the Zpad rom, I just messed up and did the wrong fix...
I had a problem with the sound, sdcard, fc on websites, and changing the soft buttons. It was killer despite those issues. Also rotation of the home screen.

I installed the WPA_adhoc-signed.zip and it solved my tethering issues. I tried to find the orginal post with the link to he downlaod but couldn't find it.

The only issue I have so far is with Grooveshark FCing. Sign up and tutorial screens work fine but the actual interface never loads. Otherwise, great work on this. Its very responsive and other than the GS FCs I have no FCs.
Thank you guys for your hard work.
Wanted to answer a few of the questions. If I forget you I apologize.
OPENVPN support- we'll look into that feature for the future. (MAY not make it into betas)
wpa_supplicant issues.ie adhoc tether. This is an oversight. Should be in next beta
Most of the sound and stock browser FCS have been fixed(Ssl now works)
SD card issues. We are aware and they are all potentially related to a hack we implemented to get external sd support working. This issue includes the internal SD disappearance when connected to pc via usb. This is my PRIMARY focus right now.
Again thank you all for your patience and feedback.
Is there a way to change the launch applications along the bottom? Even if it's a file to modify.

I plan on making a supplement or maybe a full image with the same supplicant binary in TnT Lite, plus that updated Gallery and a clean hosts file.
Working on TnT Lite 2.3.0 primarily at the moment, however. I guess I need two devices!
Another random question. .. I am on Tina lite 2.2 and find it to be super stable and flexible. I am concerned about what will happen when the battery gets to low : )
What happens with this rom when the charge runs out?
With b3 I find that I have to clear devoric cache after each shutdown or I lose the ability to run certain apps. Any suggestions?

Can Not build VEGAn-TAB from source ???

But it seem that there are missing. When I ran

Is it possible to build VEGAn-TAB from source? If it is can you please let me know how?

what do i have with VEGAn Beta4??
the only issues i have with this rom is with sdcard2 or the microSD card, only when i put jpeg files in it and i open the gallery to load them and when i do a reboot all the pictures are gone from the microSD card, but just the pictures i can open the music player and play all songs and reboot and they still in there the issue is only for me with image files. [Guide] Flash Ubuntu Touch via TWRP

Want to try Ubuntu Touch but don't wanna lose your data or get into the hassless of flashing it through Ubuntu on PC? Well, I got you covered . Although, do note that it is basically a backup of the ROM, which i just booted into and backed up. So you will be setting it up from scratch just like a fresh install/flash.
A message from the UBPorts Community Manager:-
Hi, Community manager for Ubports.
We have calls and headphones working internally but we aren't sending that out yet, the reason why is because the device over heats, currently the device is usable for hours, if we uploaded the code for calls you wouldn't want to put it too your ear.
We are trying to get it fixed though, before the end of this month is what we're aiming for, GPS, Bluetooth etcetera still wont work for a little while but it'll be useable for calls at least.
Also this port isnt just a consept, the port is real and in time will work with all of the hardware.
Its something to note that only this month has the developer decided to take time of work to work on ubports, so he hasn't had much time before now.
Thank you for the feedback.
Obviously some of the feedback doesn't fall on us such as slow app times and how many apps are in the app store, but we are hoping that porting ubuntu to alternative devices may get more developers looking at and creating apps for ubuntu phones.
I hear if this bug was fixed then apps would start much quicker https://bugs.launchpad.net/apparmor/ bug/1552341

Now, I've personally tested it by switching to an Android ROM, wiping the 4 Partitions and then restoring this backup, so yes I can confirm that it works!
What you need:-
TWRP 2.8.6.0
The TWRP Backup
WinRAR (32 bit or 64 bit)
Instructions:-
1. Download the Backup and TWRP
2. Flash TWRP, I'd recommend using the official TWRP 2.8.6.0 to avoid any issues.
3. After downloading the backup(5 Files), copy them all in the same folder and extract the one without any .z extension. I splitted them to avoid any issues with files bigger than 4GB, because the backup is 4.01GB in size.
4. After extracting you'll find a single TWRP folder, connect you device and copy it to the main directory of your device's storage, Click "Yes" if it asks for replacing any files.
5. Boot into TWRP and Backup your ROM(Optional)
6. Go back to the main TWRP Home screen->Press Wipe->Advanced Wipe->Mark Dalvik Cache,System,Data and Cache (Make sure you don't tick Internal Storage or USB-OTG).
7. While in TWRP, go to the main home screen and press Restore, there select "Ubuntu Touch" and leave all the 4 Boxes checked. Then, Swipe the button on the bottom and wait. The Numbers won't get updated but don't worry, it is getting restored and can take around 3-5 minutes.
7. Restore the backup. It will stay on the 1+ logo for a while so have some patience.

A little Review:-
UI: 8/10. I was really bored with the same old UI of Android, and Ubuntu Touch's UI felt like a good change. The "No buttons required" thing where there's no Home, Back or Menu button might feel weird at first and takes a little getting used to, but in the end provides a refreshing experience.
Stability: 9/10. Its as stable as it gets, No random reboots, No Apps crashing(cause there wasn't any app to use).
Performance: 7/10. Well, there's actually nothing on the App Store to assess the performance but general swiping through apps and menus with more than 8 of em open was smooth for the most part. Webpages load up really quick in the stock browser that comes with it. Although I did notice the phone heating up way too much, reaching temperatures equivalent to what my phone is at after playing heavy games like Asphalt 8, etc. for over 30 mins.
Features: 5/10. Since this is just like a 'Demo' to showcase that Ubuntu Touch running on an Android Device is possible, there aren't many things that work. The Camer, Bluetooth, Calling, 4G(Couldn't test 3G but 2G works), Audio via Headphones(Speakers work fine). Calling doesn't work, Calls fail from my side and when I call from the other side, it keeps ringing, indicating that the call is going on but nothing shows up on the device, where does the call go? I don't know..
Miscellaneous Features: 5/10. The App store on Ubuntu Touch is worse than that of Windows Phone, and believe me when I say that cause I've used Windows Phone as my only device for more than an year. Surprisingly, it has the option to just add a Google Account without having to flash any GApps or something. Then, there's no way you can copy files back and forth without using ADB, so this doesn't feel like an everyday Joe would love to have.
Battery Life: 2/10. Its terrible. Period. I went to sleep with battery at 43%(No flight mode and with Wi-Fi on) and woke up in 4hrs just to find sitting at 5% with the phone switching off in the next few seconds. So yeah, its terrible even with normal usage you'll find it worse than any other Android ROM.
Conclusion: Its still a Work In Progress but at least it boots up, this shows that they might be a little serious about it cause they also have 'Developer' builds uploaded on their website daily. Anyways, I like the concept of having something different from Android, I like where its going and I hope it reaches there..

Nope, I won't recommend doing that cause I was on Jgcaap's CM13 before it and had data and cache on F2FS but it never went past the 1+ logo, so I had to come back to ext4 to make it work..

Yep. Go to twrp folder on you internal storage. Then if you already copy Ubuntu backup, you can see two folder named like "2628482"(in twrp-BACKUPS). Now you must cut Ubuntu folder and paste to folder with your backups.. It's all )
A message from the UBPorts Community Manager:-
Hi, Community manager for Ubports.

Hi, if I make the backup and then the system wants to start, he tells me that no os is installed. What is the reason for this?
Link for Backup is down.

I can't download/write a file larger than 2Gb (HELP pls)

Hi folks,
I think few people have already experienced that but I literraly can't download single file over 2Gb which is really annoying.
Ofc I've already performed a full wipe, cleaned everything, reinstall OS with stock firmware. I also tried to switch from official Oxygen OS to Open beta but nothing works.
The only thing I didn't tried is to format storage into f2fs (i'm actually in ext4)
But 1- I don't think it'll work because I didn't have any problem in ext4
2 - I can't install any OS after it's formated (I get error 7) even if I know how I could get rid of this error.
Moreover, I can't use any OTG stuff and I think it's linked cuz this issue appeared at the same time (or my OTG cable is maybe dead lol)
If anyone has an idea it'd be really great.
I'm facing this issue for weeks now and because it's very uncommon, no one try to help me...
Download using Android Download Manager and you are good to go
Hey. Finally I found a solution.
I have no issue with chrome 68 and the new download manager.
However, I don't understand why I was facing this problem with old chrome versions.
And unfortunately my OTG cable still not work

Oh well, I never faced this issue with chrome before but it's fixed anyway.
Yes my phone is rooted. I'm using OOS Open Beta 15, but even when I was on official OOS, it didnt work... I also tried to wipe + reinstall the firmware, but even with OOS Nougat it didnt work...
I wonder if it's an encryption issue
it's google. they've crippled android more each version out of contempt for power users. Anyone paying attention can easily see that their actions are not aligned with their supposed philosophy they like to brag on. If they spent half as much time on quality control as they do on platform control, then they might have something besides borked ux. Even their stock rom is useless

Wow I didn't notice that. To be honnest, I try to get rid of those google ****s. I deleted chrome because of my issue and installed Kiwi browser.
However, as far as I see, no one is facing this OTG issue...
I'll maybe give up and just use my computer for the transfers between my usb stick and my phone
