I've been having this issue for a while now and I've found similar posts elsewhere but I have never found a solution. On any AOSP or Google Edition rom I've tried (pacrom, liquidsmooth, cyanogenmod, Danvdh's GE, etc.) I always run into the same annoying issue. My lockscreen will freeze and will not respond and I am forced to manually reboot by holding down the power button. Sometimes the screen comes and sometimes it doesn't when it freezes. Also, I think every time has been when the phone is in deep sleep (I can't remember if it was every time for sure). Most of the time, I will wake up in the morning, reach for my phone annnnnnnnd it freezes. I'm convinced it's a kernel issue but it's happened with KT kernel, CM, Chronic, and any other AOSP/GE kernel I've found to try. Also, I never have this problem with TW roms.
Sorry this is so long but this is so annoying
Btw I have an SGH-I337

I have tried several rom/kernel combinations on two Nexus 7's and noticed that while doing normal internet surfing or using basic applications that the screen will black out for second then come back on and resume where it was. I noticed some posts on this in the android development sections, yet no one seems to have a fix. Is this a software thing or a hardware thing?
I noticed this when I installed CM10 based PA, so I guess it's a ROM issue.
Its the surfaceflinger issue. They did something recently to it and im guessing dont realize its a bug.. but let me link you the fix it will work on any ROM.
surfaceflinger-fix.zip Flash in recovery and enjoy.
Hi All,
I'm currently experiencing a problem, that I know has popped up on this forum a couple of times, but not for the Nexus 4 specifically.(As far as I know....)
The problem appears to be random freezes, where the device just stops, screen freezes, no hardware or software buttons respond, and requires the power button to be held down for a few seconds to restart... It happens once or twice a day, at random intervals, mainly when i'm at the home screen or just browsing Chrome (Beta).... My Nexus is running the latest Nightly of CyanogenMod 10.1, build 20130529, although this was happening on the RC1 build too... Also running the latest franco.kernel 3.4.0 and Clockwork Recovery. Haven't partitioned, restored any backups etc as of yet. I also have about 230 apps, so if it could be software related, there's i high chance one of those has got something to do with it!
A suggestion or solution that doesn't involve fiddling around with ROMs, kernels and other stuff would be great, i'm not much good at that sort of thing and don't allocate much time to fiddling about with my phone, but nevertheless if required i could give it a shot....
Thanks,
Is anyone else having this issue? I have tried many ROMS and they all have the same problem
After a bit, the phone becomes very unresponsive. It lags really bad, starts to slow down. Then eventually, it's completely frozen, often during an animation
The only way to fix is to reboot
Are there any other fixes for this that don't require rebooting?
still freezes on d801
Yeah I have had the same issue with all the 4.4.2 ROMs I have tried and have yet to find a fix for the d801. That's why I went back to stock for the time being. Been using Cloudyflex ROM with Furnace Kernel and everything runs like butter, no freezes or lags at all. I really want to be on aosp, but until the lagging and freezing goes away no dice.

Don't know if this is a fix, but today my phone rapidly slowed down again. A crash was imminent
I locked it, unlocked it
And it was super fast again!
Not sure if it's a one off, but it may be a fix/workaround?
Over the last few days I've had problems with extreme lag on my I9505, and several cases where the screen is completely unresponsive. Pressing the hard buttons (power/home) generally gets a response, but tapping on the screen doesn't. Only a cold reboot fixes it. What's the best way of diagnosing this?
I'm running Phoenix ROM v7.3 (which is based on stock Android 4.3).

Try to do a fullwipe once again and reflash your rom mate ....
Hi All,
I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem?
Basically, I was having wifi issues connecting to an enterprise WLAN with PEAP/MSCHAPV2, so I (stupidly) upgraded to the OTA 4.4.2 ROM, which would have been fine if it didn't kill battery life and randomly restart. I wasn't on this version long enough to know if it had the same issue that I will describe below.
So I threw caution and my warranty to the wind and went with the 4.4.4 Pacman ROM, which was great, but whenever I had a phone call, the phone screen freezes and won't wake up to allow me to hang up a call. The same thing would occur if I called someone and had to use their automated system - I'd put the screen on loudspeaker, open up the dialpad, and when I want to hit the numbers - nothing. Locked up. Can't hang up either.
I had the same issue on the 4.4.4 Cyanhacker ROM, so I believe that it is fully related to some sort of incompatibility between KitKat and the i9505, and not the ROMs themselves.
At this point I was successful in switching to the Darthstalker 4.3 ROM, which is running beautifully and I'm really liking it so far. It's also nice having the old phone and contacts apps back, because I really hated the Kitkat one anyway...
