PIE Control on PA 4.4b1: Trigger area too big - General Paranoid Android Discussion

Hi,
with the newest beta, I started having problems with PIE. I think the trigger-area is really to big! At the moment I have PIE on the right side and when writing, all words starting with letters close to the right edge trigger PIE. So it's impossible to swype at the moment!!
Could you please fix this?
Thanks!!

[Q] stock keyboard irregularity

im using the stock samsung keyboard on my att s4 for texting inside google hangouts. i got the autocorrect feture a while back where it gives the sweeping replacement arrow on the left of the suggestions box then the two other suggested words on the center and right boxes, one day the arrow disappeared and the whole system acted more like the apple set up and i had three suggestions words and no arrow and the spacebar would auto replace with a spelling correction. now out of nowhere it has switched back to the sweeping arrow again. what am i missing here? i liked the three word setup much more. is this a setting im missing somehow of what??? or some sort of updated happening behind the scenes??
AT&T Galaxy i337 S4 MK2 rooted.
Did not like the original samsung s4 keyboard but that is my own thought as I was so used to using the Google Keyboard on Nexus 4
I currently use the SwiftKey beta keyboard app for my S4 and it working great
Before that I had the Google Keyboard which you can download from Playstore and give it a try
hey thanks for the reply, and sorry im so late getting back. thanks for the tip on the different keyboards. ive tried the google keyboard which i really like the simplicity of but i really like the dedicated number row on the stock s4 board. ive also tried the swift beta and its so close to perfect but ive really gotten used to the long press punctuation on the s4 also. i also dont care for the way i have to swype for the question mark on the swift beta keyboard.
my original question is a wierd one though and i dont think i asked it well. i think my issue is more with the auto correct feature than they keyboard. there is an arrow that shows up to dismiss the autocorrected word. that disappeared for a while and then it came back. i kinda liked the three word replacement better than the two words and the arrow. i was just curious why it switched and then switched back. and if i could choose it somehow.

PIE Inhibiting Bottom of Screen

I flashed PAC onto my Galaxy Note 10.1 just a few days ago when I ran across the PIE section in the settings, as I started toying with it I fell in love with how the nav bar was no longer hanging around the bottom all of the time, and I certainly liked PIE's interface better. However, ever since I started using the bottom 1/2 inch (interestingly about the size of the nav bar) hasn't been responsive to any touch input other than PIE. For example, if I was typing something, only the top of the spacebar would recognize a touch as a space, but the other, bottommost part would still operate if I swiped up to reveal PIE.
Is anyone aware of a fix to this problem, or is it just a tradeoff of having PIE, and this is just the way it is?

You can disable pie from the settings menu. You should also consider upgrading to 4.4 as JB is no longer receiving updates.
Well I know that I can disable PIE, but I want to know if the bottom of the screen not being functional is just something I have to deal with or if there is something that I can do about it.
I'm not aware of a 4.4 update for PAC for my device. I'm willing to try a nightly release, but I'm not sure how to tell what version a ROM is from the name of the .zip.
For example, what version is: pac_n8013-nightly-20140122.zip ? I can't anything except for "pac", "n8013" (my model no.), "nightly", and "2014".
The "0122" I'm not sure of.

You can move the pie trigger to the side of the screen to see if you get the full touch screen back...
0122 is the date of the nightly build. Up to 0128 is 4.3 and from 0303 will be PAC-4.4

Thank you for the clarification. I could be missing something, but there are no ROMs that have any release after 0128 (which I have now) for my device.
Seems like I'll have to wait for an update to roll around, but until then I'll keep playing with the settings and see if perhaps I have something not set properly.

Hybrid Properties
As I was thinking about the correlation between this problem and the nav bar, I realized that the nav bar was likely still active, but not visible because I clicked on the PIE fullscreen button in the quick settings. So I went to Hybrid Properties, clicked on interface, and set the "Nav. bar" slider to 0%, and clicked Apply. When that didn't work, I went back to that screen and found that the Nav. bar slider was all the way back at 100%. I've tried several times to get this to work, including adjusting the "Size" slider, clicking "Tablet UI" in the Launch screen and applying that, but nothing has stopped that slider from returning to it's default setting. Anyone know why this might be?

Android 5.0.2 Gesture Typing not working

I just upgraded my Nexus 4 to CyanogenMod 12, Android 5.0.2. I was previously running 4.4.4 and had the AOSP Keyboard from Android 5, and gesture typing worked fine on 4.4.4. Since updating to 5.0.2, however, gesture typing does not work at all. I have "English (US)" as my only selected language and gesture typing is enabled in the AOSP Keyboard settings. AOSP Keyboard is my only installed keyboard, so I know I'm using the right one. Sliding my finger around on the keyboard only makes the different letters pop up and the last letter I touch before lifting my finger is the only one entered. Interestingly enough, sliding from the Symbol icon to a symbol still works...I guess that's not part of gesture typing. Anybody else experiencing this issue or know how to fix it?
P.S. I have another completely unrelated problem with the phone...is it "naughty" to post another thread right away with that issue?

Samsung s7 Edge and Keyboards? mistakenly pressing buttons on edge.

Hi Guys,
first of all im new to Android switched from iOS. A lot of years ago ive been on this forum and i loved it always.
Now i got a S7 and already unbranded it with stock rom.
Do you have also issues with the keyboard? i was always tipping with one hand only - sometimes with 2! but now because of the edge on s7 edge i mistakenly press buttons like "return" with my hand. yes i have a small hand.. do you prefer any keyboard which could handle a bit space on the edge?
cheers

Hey there! I think that's a common issue, so no worries. It usually happens to me when I lay in bed and need to hold the phone from the sides. Touchpal keyboard allows you to resize the keyboard, leaving a gap on the sides as to avoid the issue you mention. Sometimes, depending on the theme, it gets automatically 'Optimized for Edge'. In other themes you need to do that manually with the resize option in the app's settings menu.
Not sure about other keyboards, but some allow you to resize horizontally just like Touchpal, Swype, for instance.
Cheers

I use Google keyboard (greatly improved lately, I used to be a die-hard Swiftkey fan) and you can set it for single hand use...to avoid touching the keys with your RIGHT hand, you can set it up as left-handed.
A case might help too, but if it's tall enough to block the unwanted key presses, it also takes away all the beauty of the curved screen.
That used to happen to me all the time before T-Mobile pushed an update that fixed the touch screen sensitivity.
Also Google keyboard is perfect because the keys don't go all the way to the edge.

Keyboard too low in full screen mode

I am really digging the full screen mode with gestures on the RN7. The only problem, and it's a big one, is typing. Without the bottom navigation bar the keyboard is all the way at the bottom. Makes it really awkward to hold the phone and type, which means a lot of retyping when I hit the wrong keys. Does anyone have any suggestions for moving the keyboard up a bit?
You can increase the height of the keyboard in gboard settings
I already set it to the max. Seems like I might have to go back to the old navigation bar.
Solve the problem
Hey.. I have this problem too, after i switched to xiaomi from Samsung. Full screen gestures are made very good on Samsung and the keyboard too. So for me was a very big problem on Xiaomi(the keyboard). And I searched a lot, and I found that the Swift keyboard can be resized. And this solved my problem. Try it
