G2 or G3 from SGS3? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to finally ditch my SGS3 for something better and the phones I like the most are G2 and G3.
G3 has a nicer design, multitasking on screen button instead of the menu one found on the G2, microSD (but G2 has 32GB model), no 3GB RAM model here in Europe so that's a real bummer, new UI which I find much much better, 4.4.2 on board so will get next 2 Android updates (whereas G2 will probably get one last Android update and no more), don't really want or need QHD screen, etc.
Opinions?

If you can wait, get the G3

Go to G3 or not?

If you are going to buy the 3gb ram version lg g3, then yes
Otherwise NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :fingers-crossed: :fingers-crossed:
The g3 is nice but I'm happy just using cloudy g3... The main difference is the extra gb of ram and the camera is better.. It does have a better screen but honestly my g2's screen is amazing as it is
Thanks for the replies both!! If anyone else has something to propose I'm all ears
Just check the reviews, what does g3 have better than g2? More ram, slightly better cpu(like if you can notice, lol), bigger creen(depends if better or worse), higher resolution..and maybe more. Both devices are good, actually not good they are amazing but it all depends on what you want to call one of them better than the other. Go to a store which displays them if you can, that way you can decide easier.
PS: I'm a recent g2 owner and i think g2 is the best device you can get for the buck you pay :good:
To be honest, I would wait until Q1 2015 when most newer phones are out and when reviews are up.

Have any of you updated your G2 to the G3 rom? does it make the camera faster, cause that really sucks!:-/
I love this phone, and the features, but getting tired of the shutter time, and all the blurry pictures:-/
thanks!, Max

I have no issue with shutter time or blurry pics unless i use magic focus
I find the size of the g2 is perfect ,the g3 is a bit to big...
I get blurry pictures as well ,besides the camera i love this phone
The G3 stock rom is cool. I like the additional features that you can get, but there is a CloudyG3 rom available.
My G2 has built in wireless Charging (verizon) where the G3 does not. Looks like they opted to go the Samsung route (AT&T removed the Qi circuit all together) and go with the Qi Compatible replacement backplates that are $40 extra.
I really can't see a reason to upgrade to anything else.
The G2 pushes my size limitations. If I was to go to a G3, I would opt for just a Note 4 coming out in October with the 64-bit SnapDragon 805 processor and QuadHD screen.
But personally, with Android L just right around the corner, I wouldn't buy anything without first checking out what is available. With Google releasing the dev edition of Android L, I would imagine manufactures would be updating pretty frequently.
G3 is not worth buying. The answer is simple, you have amaizing smartphone, with great specs ans you won't notice any change in performance. G3 in comparison to G2 has the same performance, because of this 2K screen. There isn't noticeable difference, between screen from G2 and G3, all on G2 is really sharp.

Agreed, G2 > G3
Eu queria um lg g3 :C
The only phone on the market that I would upgrade to is the Samsung Note 4, there's nothing about G3 to make me feel tempted. Most likely I would wait until April - May for the next year flagships.

[Q] Is still a good buy?

Hello guys! I just want to ask you G2 users if this phone is still a good buy? I'm planning to upgrade my phone by next year.
I'm still using my LG Optimus Black and it has been my companion for more than 4yrs if I'm not mistaken. The G2's price here has dropped significantly so I'm thinking of getting one
Feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thank you guys!
I think it is. It's a great piece of hardware with excellent developement, great display and performance is on par with newer phones. There's no wear and tear on the buttons after a year of using it, they still feel solid. It's also getting the G3 UI in an update soon.
I don't know how long LG supports their devices with updates though, maybe you'll be a better judge of that after having one for so long.
Thank you but what about its performance? i also have a friend who owns one but his lags a lot. i dont know if it's because he's just stupid or it's the device itself?
Software updates don't bother me much since I have had good experience with LG's support on the OB. It was launched with 2.2 froyo, got 2.3 gingerbread and they ended support on 4.0.4 which is kinda respectable since it got through 2 major updates and we got a stable kitkat rom and LG's build quality is also commendable.
JB laggs a lot tbh. KK is good but you will see imrovements if you root it and flash a custom rom. Honestly, both battery and performance-wise.
If you get a good price on it, then go for it. Root it right away lol you can always return to stock as it if it was rooted
Good thing you would enter the G2 world just like I did: with stable G3 ROMs ready to go

If you aren't one of those who demand the latest and greatest, the G2 is pretty much one of the best picks for money right now. The screen and CPU is on par with most newer phones (Nexus 6, G3 and Note 4 aside) and it can be acquired for a very little price. It has been confirmed to get Lollipop and that's most likely the last update this phone will get
But it's super fast, has a good battery and it just WORKS. I still say that if I had to replace my phone, I would still get myself a G2 because there's no other phone out there that is that much better.
This device currently, with maybe Nexus 5, has best price/quality ratio. For not too much money, you will get hardware that is still quite powerful (S800, 2GB of RAM, 3000 Mah battery etc.).
Also, considering that you had LG Optimus Black, the LG G2 will be great leap forward in terms of quality and performance.
Hope this helped a bit OP. :highfive:
Thank you for all your input guys! This will surely help with my decision. But what do you think about the Nexus 5? It's just 5-10 dollars more expensive than the G2 here, which one will you go with?
The Nexus 5 has a brighter screen if that's something that really matters.
Other than that and ROM support, I'd definitely choose the bigger display, better camera and battery, and the other benefits of the G2.
I'd choose the G2 over most, perhaps all phones out atm. Maybe not the Xperia Z3, just because of really similar specs but withthe addition of waterproofing.
Samsung phones have the horrible AMOLED displays, HTC is too big for its screen, and the G3 has worse battery life and barely any performance difference. Not miles better camera and I prefer the G2 display.
The G2 is the best phone to buy
I have a G2 and OPO. OPO is a better choice.... same price almost.
I have had my G2 for just over a year. I would agree with others it is still a top notch phone for the money. But beware i have had to replace the usb/ headphone board. And now my screen has the dead spot towards the top, so it will need replaced soon also. I dont know if i just got a bad phone or if the quality is just sub par.

And others if you search LG G4 on google
"I don't think we are going to be able to sit back and expect people are just going to fawn over the G4, or whatever the name will be, just because they liked the G3. I don't think it works that way anymore."
Finally they get it So will see is that only for marketing or they really mean that.
btw i think that you need few more options for vote. I will not move if they create beast with shi*y battery again. Phone is incredible but cant create good phone if you cant support it with battery.
I actually liked this iteration a lot.
Id only be tempted if they move up to the nexus 6 screen size while shaving off even more of the bezel, especially at top and bottom.
To me, the LG flagships always were spec monsters with thin bezels, however you can alway get through the day on a battery, which is all I need. Its all about habits, I take my charger with me anywhere when I also don my backpack.
For people that want crazy battery life, there is other options (Motorola anyone?), this thing is all about the bezel and the specs, which I dig.
I get really good battery on aosp.. for me a really good screen with better contrast, etc. would tempt me, not going to lie.
I bought my G3 thanks for my friend because he was really happy for his G2, in the past I hadn't got a good experience with LG. Battery and especially motherboard problem but G3 changed my idea. Very nice design and a very good performance, I think my next-gen smartphone will be G4!
Yeah I think I might be getting the g4 just for the 64 bit processor and the many but slight improvements, after that, I think the smartphone has peeked, which is good because we will not be distracted by new phones our features on sub par networks and the many issues they present, android fragmentation in my opinion grew the smartphone industry to what it is now, I wonder what innovations will be made to grant a device flagship, besides a CPU upgrade which is overrated
Actually it's Flex 2.
Those specs better not be for a new G4. If anything they look like the specs for the Flex 2, as said above. I also don't think LG would release a G4 just yet, the G3 was only released fairly recently. If anything I'd say they'd release the new G4 or whatever it will be called in the middle of this year, after they get all the kinks of the Flex 2 worked out. I'd also say that the Flex 2 will be their last FHD (1080p) phone. After that, my guess is they would do a G4 or something with the Snapdragon 808/810/811, 3GB/4GB of RAM (Samsung's making 4GB RAM modules for phones now) your 4k screen, bigger battery, etc.
TL;DR: Probs the specs for the Flex 2, G3 just came out don't think they'd release a G4 just yet.

The G3 was released last May, which means we're only 4 months away from the G4, so it's definitely the right time for leaks and rumours to start appearing.

Are you, LG G2 owners, upgrading to the LG G4?

Hello XDA.
This is a thing that has puzzled me a bit, so first I'll present my own point of view and then I'd really like to hear what you guys think.
You can see pictures of the G4 here http://www.phonearena.com/news/LG-G4-leaks-in-all-of-its-glory_id68166
My G2 has served me really well, and honestly it doesn't have to be replaced. It's still very fast and gets the job done. However, after 1 ½ year it gets old - it has never been the most interesting phone design-wise and with the new phones having a much more attractive design you get tempted. Add to that, that the battery isn't what it used to be either. What made me buy it back then, was it's absolutely fantastic internals at an affordable price. And I don't regret purchasing it.
The LG G4 looks great - especially in leather - and the fact that it has MicroSD support and a removable battery means that I won't run short of storage (especially when flashing and keeping backups on the phone) and wiping internal storage is no longer a headache. The camera is supposed to be brilliant, but we'll have to see how it works out in real life. The screen looks promising - rumors say it's using 'Quantum Dot' display which results in better color accuracy and is more battery efficient. All good so far!
But according to the latest rumors, this thing comes with a Snapdragon 808. And mildly put, it doesn't look too well. Sure LG didn't have many options - either go with the overheating 810 or put in a worse 808. Not only is the 808 worse than the 810, it's also worse than the 805 in terms of GPU capabilities and power. It's not much but last year most people considered a Snapdragon 805 the absolute minimum requirement for a phone with a QHD display. We all saw how the LG G3 performed with its QHD display - it wasn't bad, but by no means impressive.
I think that LG should've sticked to the 810 and disable two of the four A57 cores on a kernel level. I'm sure a 4+2 setup is plenty processing power, but the Adreno 430 GPU outperforms the Adreno 418 (found in the Snapdragon 808) by a huge margin. In addition to that, Snapdragon 810 supports DDR4 RAM.
I'm torn, and thinking to wait for the Samsung Note 5 and hope it won't come with a UHD display. What are your thoughts?
The Lg g2 had been my best ✆ for three years. It was gorgeous, it was very fast, it lasted all day.
I wasn't impressed with the G3 but I think the G4 has my name written on it. They've had some time to play with the configuration, I'm sure it will be excellent.
They're going to have to crank up the design next year though. Just saying.

eh i will skip G4 becouse i bought my G2 one year ago and i still need to stay with it for 12 months, but i will probably buy G5 or other 2016 flagship phone
As lg phones are locked down, I'm not gonna buy it. The g2 is great and is still the greatest phone they made. But as a flashaholic and someone who likes modding their phone, an unlocked bootloader is very important to me. I only bought the g2 because it was such great value. It turned out to be such a powerful and fun little beast though with a great community as well. It was lightening in a bottle. But my criteria is a bit more strict now. I'll be sticking with the 1+ for a while
No need. I see no advantage to upgrading because my G2 can do everything I need it to. When I get another phone it'll be a nexus or the Asus Zenphone 2, whichever has the larger community.

Either this or I just may break down and grab a Note 5 or S6 Edge after they iron the initial kinks out.
We'll see... G3 is a good phone and would rank higher if the G2 didn't exist but wasn't great enough to make me sell My G2.
With that said...let the games begin

With the G2 being a beast phone there's really not enough to convince me why I should upgrade to the G4 besides the Camera, Removable Battery and Expandable Storage. I live perfectly fine without a Removable Battery and Expandable Storage and the G2 has 32GB of Internal Memory and a 3000mAh battery.. so why bother? There's more chance of me getting a 1+ if I was going to upgrade. I have yet to experience a world with an unlocked bootloader.
Yay for capitalism!

This will more than likely happen.
G2 is great with me, but looking for better camera with G4.
FullHD is enough, 2k is not really necessary. More important thing is the battery life - which many people said that 2k display on G3 made the battery worse.
I think like the OP. I have a vs980 but I'm seriously thinking about jumping to T-Mobile. I thought I read last year that LG was going to allow unlocked bootloaders going forward with the G3. Given the fact that the G4 has a Snapdragon processor, an external SD card slot and removable batteries I'm thinking there is a lot of potential for a large dev community (especially since the S6 doesn't offer these things). We'll see.
No. I went back to the g2 from the g3 because I didn't like the size. I would get a g4 mini iff it was 5-5.2 and had a high end processor. As it stands now, the s6 and s6 edge look like more suitable replacements
I'm tired of drama
I'm not going to use LG anymore, LG does not satisfy me.
Having owned a few Android devices, I am getting a feeling that the best way to get android experience is to buy a Nexus device. The hardware and the price are only a part of the equation, although we know Nexus devices normally have a great price-performance relation. What makes Nexus so cool is having less pre-installed bloat or custumizations and it's pretty much guaranteed that for the next three years or so you will be the first in the line to get the android updates. Case in point is the stock ROM situation with the current G2. It gives you a glimpse of what it will be like to use the G4 18 months from now. Even though Lollipop 5.1 has come and gone, and the Nexus devices are now running the latest revision of Android 6.0.x, the G2 is still on 5.0.x. Another great example is my Samsung Galaxy Tab S tablet that I bought only a year ago. (This was Samsung's flagship tablet in 2014). Same story here. Still using 5.0, and I imagine Marshmallow is something like six months away and it will be the final update from Samsung. On the other hand, the ancient Nexus 7 is still getting Marshmallow updates.

G2 vs g3

Regarding my question here.there hasnt been any answers herehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=60651149
So I am asking the g2 community.
I was considering to buy g3.
I am confused between g2 or g3?
Which is more faster. Which has more battery life?
As due to high resolution screen i have heard g3 performance isnt as good as g2.
Are these true?
Im getting a d850(slightly used 3gb ram) or d802(new).
Which one is a better choice
G2's performance is better than 16GB ROM 2GB RAM G3. The 3GB/32GB is better. I believe it will not have game performance as good as the G2 but the screen is bigger and better and the RAM will make multitasking better too.
Battery the G2 is one of the "battery kings". Much better than the G3.
G3 Pros:
Screen quality
Camera
Accessories avaiable at the moment
Design (IMO)
G2 Pros:
Battery
Performance (better than 2GB G3, slightly better than 3GB G3 I believe)
Price
Sources: My girlfriend has 2GB G3 and I have D802 G2. So I am used to both of them.
G2 VS G3
I already used both of the phones, first the G2 and then the G3 (16gb), but now that my G3 was stolen I decided to get a G2.
The truth is..
G3 have a better display resolution (but it drains battery really fast, and colors are less vivid).camera on G3 is actually the same as the G2 the only difference is the laser focus (upgrade the G2 to lollipop and it will be almost the same ). The speaker on the G3 is much more lauder and clearer than G2 for sure (speaker on G2 is not bad at all, is good). You can expand the memory on G3 while on G2 you can only have 16 or 32GB (I bought the 32GB version of G2, and when I had G3 16GB version I never needed an extra memory, so 32GB is more than fine for me). Now for performance the G2 is clearer the winner, les lag on gaming due to the screen, and much mire battery life. and for design I love both but it feels much better to hold the G2 on hands than the G3.
In conclusion il stay with the G2 and later buy the G4 or G5...:highfive:
I have both phones.
I gave the g3 to my girlfrend and I'm keeping my g2 with cm12
Battry life is beter. It's faster with cm then g3.
The GPS on g3 is aufull and it's not as reaponsive.. The soc 801 is to slow to handle the display on g3.
I'm not bying a g4 think il switch to nexux
Thanks for the advice. I already bought the g3
