I don't own or have looked at that device, but [DEV]How to compile TWRP touch recovery should point you in the right direction, if you haven't seen it already.

This isn't easy as it requires some ramdisk repacking magic.
(Problem is that I9100G, just like the I9100/N7000/I777 and original GalaxyS family, use a single image for both kernel and recovery. So it's really hard to change the kernel without changing recovery.)

[Q], kernel help?

Basically I've never flashed a custom kernel before so I'm trying to do some research so if someone could give me some incite or point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it.
The only thing I'm not sure of is if I flash a custom kernel will it prevent me from receiving any future ota updates? If so, any ideas where to find a flashable stock kernel? I couldn't find one. I really want to stay with the stock rom. Had my fill of custom roms on my phone.

Let's see. AFAIK yes, non-stock kernels will prevent you from getting those long-awaited OTAs (not sure though as the first thing I did after getting my N7 was to flash PA ).
If you really like the stock experience but still want a custom kernel, you must flash a custom recovery to flash kernels. The latest TWRP touch is what you need.
After you've flashed the recovery, just download the kernel zip, reboot to recovery, flash, profit.
As for a kernel, you can go with M-Kernel, DerKernel, franco.Kernel, Faux and so on and so forth. I love M-Kernel personally. You can tweak it with TricksterMOD for a smokin' good overclock as well as purty good battery life
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, just asking, what do you mean by a "a flashable stock kernel"? If you already have the stock kernel, why flash the same over it?
AFAIK updates to stock kernel are provided by OTAs.
I guess I was looking for a way to return to the stock kernel if need be. I have my recovery and understand that part. Just trying to make sure I understand kernels better before I brick my n7. Thanks for the help!

Oh, ok. If you flash the stock ROM, it flashes the kernel as well (but it's a lot of work reflashing a ROM just for the kernel )
What you can do is this: extract the stock ROM zip and flash the boot.img you get.
Here's a link to the stock ROM: https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/nakasig-jop40d-factory-efcec044.tgz
Edit: I figured I'd explain the rest as well...
After you download that file, untar it: nakasig-jop40d-factory-efcec044.tgz will untar to a folder probably named:nakasig-jop40d-factory-efcec044
Open that folder. You will find a zip (probably image-nakasig-jop40d.zip or something like that), unzip it.
You'll find four files. boot.img is the one you need. Flash it to your device with fastboot.
If you wan a flashable zip, unzip any custom kernel, replace the awesome custom boot.img with the boring stock one and rezip. You should be able to flash it from TWRP or CWM.
Note that the stock kernel nukes CWM on first boot. I assume you don't have root. Do this:
1. Connect the N7 to your PC. [you should have debugging enabled in dev options]
2. Open an adb shell and type this: mv /system/recovery-from-boot.p /system/recovery-from/boot.p.bak
3. ???
4. Profit
[If you do have root, open a file manager, remount /system as read/write and rename /system/recovery-from-boot.p to something.]
Click thanks if I helped!
That's why I was hoping to find the JOP40D stock kernel as a flashable zip. But I'll give the boot. I'm a shot. Thanks again!

It would be nice if you clicked "thanks" below my post
stock flashable 4.1.2 kernel for grouper(put up by faux as a "reset" kernel) http://faux.androidro.ms/grouper-faux123-reset-kernel-4.1.2.zip (should be fine on 4.2.1)
flashable in twrp or cwm recovery. no hoops to jump through flashing or after flashing this. it doesnt nuke your recovery.

[Q] Latest Twrp Req for PAC rom?

I have a tf300t tablet and was going to flash the PAC rom to my device. My question is, do I need the latest twrp (2.6.3) to do this? I have twrp 2.5.0 installed currently with cromi xenogenesis rom. Thanks in advance.
P.S. I am a real NOOB at this Android OS, but learning a little every day.
Figured it out with the help of kd8bny

I could not back up my pad with the twrp 2.6.3.0, so I reinstalled twrp 2.5.0.0 and made a backup (it worked), then installed twrp 2.6.3.0 and then installed the pacman rom. Thanks to, kd8bny for getting me through it. Btw, the rom is great.
I have a Galaxy S Advance and was going to flash the PAC rom to my device. My question is , do can Work with CWM 6 without TWRM?
Thanks

What happened when you tried?
I made a Backup of the Stock Rom on my TF201 before installing PAC, however after restoring it, it did not boot.
Changing back to PAC worked, however.
TWRP 2.6.3.3, I think.

MultiROM - How does it exactly work?

Hello!
I've heard that you're able to contain multiple ROMs in your phone at the same time and you can boot the one you desire in the beginning. My bootloader is unlocked.
So, I'm wondering if I would be able to boot Stock Lollipop (23.1.A.1.28) with AndroPlus Kernel v57b or CM 12.1 with M5Kernel. Is it possible to have them both installed on my phone and select which one I want to use?
Thanks in advance.
Using multirom yes
Though there are some incompatabilities
Stock lolipop rom has to remain as main rom due to its kernel
Once you install a kernel with the kexec patch (androplus kernel/m5 kernel)
You can install the mod
Then a multirom menu will show up during boot
You can use the multirom twrp to add cm12.1 and to flash M5 kernel to it
It will show up in the multirom menu and you can use your volume keys to select it

So I've pretty much done the first step, I have stock Lollipop installed with AndroPlus kernel. But what's a kexec patch and how do I install it and then MultiROM?

Kexec hardboot patch is already included in androplus Kernel
Next is download the multirom mod from the thread and flash it via recovery

Okay I did it. I can either boot Stock Lollipop (.28) with AndroPlus v57b kernel or CM12.1 with M5Kernel. It's pretty cool
P.S. I screwed up my phone at first try, all my data is lost haha. So, do it at your own risk.

Question for roms on the sm-t530nu

Hello I'm new to the tab 4 t530nu and I recently updated / rooted and wanted to know what good stable roms are available for it?
What stable roms have you tried if you own this tablet?
Thanks!

I have the T530NU as well. First you'll want either TWRP or Philz (CWM touch) custom recovery. Then:
--Stock TW 5.0.2 Deodexed
--Cyanogenmod 12.1
--BlissPop 3.4 (based off CM 12.1)
--PAC Rom LP (hasn't been updated in a while)
I personally would recommend BlissPop 3.4, it's like CM 12.1 but with a lot more customization options, I really like it a lot. Unless you prefer touchwiz in which case go with that first one

Rooting a Storm

I've been a mod head for many years and just got my Storm after many happy HTC years. I was just wondering is worth rooting the Storm as it is already running a customised OS. Any thoughts please?
I recomend you rooting . It is simple. Now we have TWRP so i believe custom roms like DU and others will be availble soon AS for now you can choose between COS 12.1.1 (Lollipop) and CM13(marshmallow) and i believe cm12.1 (lollipop). Shotly i recomend rooting.

Do you have to increase the size of the system partition to install CM13 (marshmallow) or simply flash the latest CM13 recovery and nightly for the storm(kipper) device.
You dont need to repartition. I recomend flash TWRP and then cm13, because i've had some problems with Cyanogen recovery

OK thanks, I already have TWRP installed, so you can easily install the latest cm13 nightly using TWRP recovery, then an applicable gaps package.
Do you have drivers for the storm. If so post a link
