[Q] install Philz recovery over TWRP - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently running a custom G Pro ported KitKat ROM and TWRP. I'd like to try a different ported ROM, but I have Loki issues and Philz should get me around that. However, I can't get philz to flash over TWRP - I keep getting errors after flashing the recovery zips and end up going back into the ROM and using AutoRec to reinstall TWRP.
Any tried and true methods someone can recommend to install philz over TWRP with KitKat?
I'm not opposed to using ADB and pushing files over if that's what it takes.
Thanks

Have you tried the app flashify from the playstore. It will actually download any recovery you want and then flash it for you among other very nice features. Try that if you haven't yet and if that doesn't work use terminal emulator to dd the image. Just extract the .img from the recovery and put it on your sdcard and rename the extracted image to recovery.img and in terminal emulator type su > enter, then type dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery and hit enter. You should see some numbers saying records processed in + out and it will show a certain amount of time. Then that means you typed everything correctly and type reboot recovery and you should be in your recovery of choice. Hope that helped

Clockwork recovery...

My phone was going through bootloops and I went to recovery and clockwork definitely WASN'T there. So I improvised and used the 1 click stock method to restore my phone. Any idea why clockwork wasn't there and how to change it to where it is in case it happens again?

Did you flash it yet???
I recently answered a question similar to this, so see if it works:
1. Reboot into your bootloader
2. Download a clockwork img and save it to a directory on ur computer
3. CD into that directory on the terminal and do the following command:
fastboot flash recovery _____.img
(Blank line is name of img)
And reboot into recovery from bootloader
See if that works

You flashed recovery, then installed su. You needed to rename install-recovery.sh to install-recovery.bak in /system/etc/

Need help with adb sideload

I was going to flash a rom using twrp. Before I got to flash it I wiped the internal storage. Now I have nothing on my tablet. Can I use the adb sideload feature in twrp to push a rom on the device? If so can you explain how? I'm new at this so I do think know the commands. Thank you for your help.
I'm in the same boat as you
Sort of in the same boat as you. Except I'm having trouble with ADB sideload and Fastboot. But for you to try and fix your issue go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2001868
That toolkit will allow you to flash either a Google stock ROM or a backup using fastboot. If that doesn't work then reply back to this thread.
I also did the same thing as you did, I was able to side load cyanogen mod on the nexus
Just go into recovery and then into adbsideload option, make sure device is connected to PC and adbfastboot drivers are installed, then while your recovery is in adbsideload mode, type in command by opening command prompt in platform tools in sdk 'adb sideload filename.zip'
Where filename is the name of the rom you downloaded, then the ROM will be pushed and twrp will flash it automatically
Make sure you reset the device(factory reset) from twrp first, otherwise ROM will not be flashed

You can also use an OTG/memory stick. TWRP reads them just fine. I've also used an SD card & reader. Load your rom, kernel, gapps & connect. Then you can flash all right from your memory-source. I find it much more convenient.

I wiped my phone without a rom

So, I wiped my phone and didn't realize that the rom I was about to install was corrupted (I think the download didn't finish) and I forgot to do a backup, what can I do to recover from this disaster?
Use Nexus toolkit.
Two easy options:
1. Use adb to push a rom to your sdcard from your recovery then install like normal
2. Use fastboot to flash a stock image your system partition
Download a ROM that's not corrupted and place it in platform tools folder (where you have your adb is located) and just go to your phones recovery and sideload

Thank you to all of you, I used Wug's Toolkit (NRT) and it worked.
Similar Problem
My problem is similar but a bit different.
I flashed CWM over the top TWRP and when I re-entered custom recovery and I went in to install a zip from sd not all my folders where showing including the folder I keep all my roms in.
When I try to boot back in to system it just takes me back to recovery.
Am I being a noob or is it something gone wrong?
Thanks in advance!

If that works for twrp it should work for cwm. (Though its your phone. If this breaks it its not my fault)
But why? ROM manager will install cwm for you painlessly. There are also apps like Flashisfy that will let you change and back up recoveries easily.

Installed the latest update..now only boos straigh into TWRP..nothing else...

I'm wondering if anyone can help me out with this...
I traded my buddy my ATT G2. The phone was rooted and had TWRP installed. Well, when he got it, he received the update and installed it. Now the phone buts straight into TWRP.
Now, I was under the impression that OTA's can't install if a device has a custom recovery, So I don't know what's going on. I told him to sideload a rom to the device and then try to flash through TWRP, but his internet speeds is slow..
I also found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471370 do anyone know if this will work with the ATT G2 or have any other insight on how to get the phone back up and running?
I did a mistake in the past when I copied paranoid Rom and g apps onto sdcard and then rebooted into recovery and wiped all in advanced wipe and did not have anything to flash and nothing is in phone to boot so rebooted back into twrp using key combo and then used sideload and pushed paranoid 4.3 and gapps and they are smaller size Rom and gapps and then downloaded clean Rom se and all is well, but my pc could not recognise my phone with lg drivers so installed pdanet and confirmed adb commands working and then performed sideload, so first have paranoid 4.3 and its gapps and download and install pdanet (don't use it yet) then boot into recovery and factory reset followed by all wipes in advanced wipes reboot to recovery from within twrp connect using cable and then run adb command to see if ur pc recognizes ur phone and if not recognized open pdanet (make sure it's installed already) and select options program gives you to install lg drivers from a list of several other brands and then run adb commands again( if you don't have adb in pc then download and install minimal adb and fastboot app with destination as desktop) and then copy Rom and gapps to adb minimal and fastballs folder and rename them to easy remembering as u like and then start sideload in twrp and run adb command and PC should say sideload and then run commands to install Rom and gapps and reboot and in meantime download Stockrom of your choice and install it, I hope you know how to use adb

Yes if you have time to download those huge files it is recommended to go back to stock and in my note above it does not have to be a 4.3 Rom it can be any Rom of your choice.

This fixed my D800 up after that update broke the phone into only booting to recovery:
