Hi everyone,
Just switched to 3 Mobile UK from Virgin with my Droid Pro and having a very random issue ... I cant make any calls. I can receive calls, write sms, receive sms, use the internet - the whole lot, but I am just not able to make any calls whatsoever! What happens is that when I dial, you can see the seconds counting up sometimes, but there is no sound whatsoever. I popped the SIM into my old HTC and that works just fine. I was wondering what the issue was for that?? I am trying to force the phone to stay on 3G only as I feel that, even though I have UMTS only selected in settings, it wants to make calls using 2G which 3 (being an all-3G network) obviously doesnt support. Any ideas of what the issue could be?? I started playing around in the hidden ##program menu but there is no option to play around with GSM settings, only pointless CDMA/EV-DO stuff ...
Anyone got an idea? I should say that I am running the latest OTA Gingerbread ..
P.S. It also crashes when trying to make a call .. just FYI
Why dont you flash back to Froyo 3.8.7 and see if the updated Radio image from Gingerbread has not spoilt anything in the phone?.
But be careful and do not do the mistake I did. First go to recovery, restore froyo backup and then flash sbf. That should have you booting in less than 10mins. If you do not restore froyo through recovery then RSD will not recognize your phone. Even if it does it will not flash the SBF.
All the best. Report back.
I think that 3 have an agreement with some competitive carriers to use their networks when a 3g signal is not avaialble. Maybe you phone sees this as roaming. It's a long shot but try turning roaming on. You never know.
Sent from my GT-P7500 using XDA App
I just really wish there were some more options to play around with the basebands on the Droid Pro ... now I have resorted to doing a factory reset and starting fresh, and now the damn thing cant even get any signal whatsoever ... When looking for available networks i am only able to find the normal 2G networks (Orange, voda, O2 and T-Mo).
Right ... so using Recovery, u mean the mode you enter using the update.zip?

P.S.: There is so many ways of doing this .. could you point me to a guide that worked for you? Also, could you go into detail when you mean to restore the froyo backup. When flashing the updates I didnt make any backups if thats what you mean. The Recovery mode also only shows a few options like wiping cache, data, applying update and so on ...

What i meant was to restore a nandroid backup from ClockworkMod. It is the droid bootstrap you install. You go into that restore froyo backup and then pull battery. Then click RSD on your computer load sbf and connect your phone by holding volume key to enter bootloader. Once this happens the sbf will flash then you can easily boot to froyo. If there is a problem in booting then just pull battery again and enter stock recovery by holding keys R+M and powering the phone and do a data wipe. Let me know how this works.
If these dont work then we can try to flash radio images from other motorola phones. I remember flashing an India radio image for my defy when I came to India and then going back to europe radio image when I went back to europe. It should work however that will be a last option.
Hey.. well I guess 3 just wont work with that phone, the limited settings for GSM/UMTS make it virtually impossibile for force 3G calling and disable 2G. I am switching back to T-Mo where I know it will work...
What happened was, that due to my extensive modifications to ##program settings, rooting and some GSM apps I was running, my phone decided to pack up yesterday morning and give me the red M of evil -- so I went thru the whole process of sbf flashing and now I am back on a 3.8.7, after updating from 2.26.2. Maybe you can explain just for better understanding what the benefits are of doing the restore thru bootstrap as you explained?
So I faced the no network signal issue yet again today, and I know I may be the Nth guy who's repeating it again, but since I searched throughout the forums, and the web, but to no avail, I desperately need help here.
Mine is a Defy+, with stock rooted 2.3.4 Asia retail unlocked. My carrier is Vodafone India.
This is what I did:
- Took a backup of everything, even nandroid.
- Installed Defy 2ndinit, and got the bootmenu installed.
- Reboot>vol down on blue led>bootmenu>recovery>custom recovery
- Here I did a factory setting>Wipe Data>Wipe Dalvik Cache>Wipe Cache.
- Next>Install zip from sd>11.10 JB Defy+ Quark's ROM>Update v2>Custom GAPPS
- At this point, the phone rebooted coz there was no other option.
At first boot, it took a loooooooong time, but finally I booted into JB! Result!
But alas, there was no network signal to be found, while my other vodafone india handset had full signal.
Hence, I couldn't set up my google account, and thought, that I could fix it once I proceed.
- I tried the airplane mode on/off method: No success.
- I tried rebooting several times: No success
- I tried clearing cache & dalvik cache and then rebooting: No success
- I tried fiddling with the baseband switcher, and trying different profiles, other countries etc etc: No success.
- The phone wouldn't connect to the WEP, WPA2, or No authentication(open) ad-hoc wi-fi interent connections that I shared via my laptop either. It easily connected earlier on GB 2.3.4 stock.
- I tried manually searching for a network as well, and found EVERY network EXCEPT for Vodafone India, which my sim could register to. This, while my other vodafone phone was lying right beside it with FULL signal.
The ROM was working beautifully, with all the bells and whistles, albeit a bit laggy, but that could easily be fixed later. The main problem being that this issue, doesn't lemme get data access on my phone either, so its essentially just a dumb-phone then.
This had happened earlier as well, when I had tried to multi-boot ICS CM9, with my stock 2.3.4
Then, I couldnt part with the stock ROM, and hence I believed that the no network issue could be due to multi-booting, and would be resolved with a complete install.
Now, I love JB, and everything it comes with, but I am stuck with this essentially simple issue. Please help me out here.
Hey gautam,
i have a defy on vodafone mumbai (not a defy+) and i dont seem to have a problem. I hadvent used CM10 i was on 7.2 and i used central europe as my baseband in the baseband switcher. But actually i had signal straight out of the box with 7.2. I would suggest you try with another sim card. Or try downgrading. It could be because 11.10 is custom kernel one but nogoodusername is also an indian and is using custom kernels. I doubt its a baseband problem because you can see and register on other networks. I think possibly something was corrupted by your install since not even your wifi is not working some radio drivers could be bugged.
If its not your sim a reflash of OS might be required. If you're downgrading to GB you may need to reflash your kernel to get off Quarx's

Will try and find out if this works..
Please keep sharing any other solutions in case this doesn't work..
If you have IMEI number use Baseband switcher , play with is a little bit.
if not , backup your rom , flash stock SBF. <wipes and all with stock recovery>
boot to stock FW , and now you 2 options :
Case 1:- You don't have signal , and even if you don't have IMEI number in stock , root it and use the baseband switcher on the stock , make sure you reboot every BB switch , and that Signal bar even tries to increase <even a little bit.>
Case 2:- You have signal .
please try these steps to get network

What u have to do is just change the baseband settings bring it like as under :-
settings >> Advance >> Baseband Sel >> Asia >> South East Asia >> 3.4.3-331 and reboot ...
Enjoy ur cm 10 rom ...:good:

Thanks, It resolved weak network issue which I was facing from last 2-3 weeks
I Recently updated my rom to Android 4.3 see attached for current information.
Before I installed I did a full wipe via clockwork mod, I have also flashed other Roms prior to the one shown and still suffered the same problem.
I currently reside in the UK and to my knowledge my S4 is unbranded however it currently uses a contract sim from the UK network carrier Three.
On a previous build of Android I was using the rooted stock rom and never suffered any issue.
My Problem:
When my screen times out and is once again awaken via the power button, I loose my network reception. To get the reception back I have to put my phone in flight mode and the turn it off again. The network signal stays until my screen times out again.
I have spent most part of the day looking for a solution including flashing various modems, to no avail. So I have finally admitted defeat and hope that someone here could be kind enough to point me in the correct direction.
Problem fixed thanks to hawkerpaul who posted here:
Installed I9505XXUEMK8-PRE-ROOTED-Odex-KNOXFree-CWM.zip quoted here:
Then installed the MK8 modem via Odin 3.04 :good:
Hello all, long time lurker but semi experienced with hacking, slashing and bricking the XT610. I loaded the Vanilla CM7 v8 on my phone and used it for months and months...it finally started to get slow and get alot of FC so I decided to take the plunge and start over...
1. Follow the directions and make sure your phone is SIM unlocked via Verizon giving you the code or one of the MANY sim unlock services via Google searh or ebay. I used sim unlock.net.
2. You MUST use RSD lite flash the SBF 2.26.20 file. I hate windows and I am a big fan of sbf_flash but I could NOT figure out how to get sbf_flash to code the basic radio kernel back into my phone, there has got to be a long form text command but I couldn't figure it out; I gave up and used a windows machine and RSD lite 4.7 to flash the SBF file and it worked like a champ. Again Linux/MAC sbf_flash will not work to give you the TBH radio unlock hack, you have to use RSD lite.
3. CM7 and the TBH radio lock are doable but somehow it really screws up the wifi...on my phone it would continually go to sleep, not work, work only with 802.11 n signal networks not b/g signal...I was using Migui's new VENUS cm7 and other than the WifI issues after the radio unlock it was a great ROM (nice work bro!). I elected not to go back to Vanilla's CM7 due to the need to load a custom kernel with that ROM. In the end I opted for the stock Pro Android OS debloated because I got tired of Wifi volatility; and the phone OS is slower but I need reliable wifi!
So many thanks to Vanilla and Migui for the ROMS and TBH for the radio unlock hack and all of you other masters out there (bveditz and jackpotclavin) to explain to us noobs how to do right!
CDMA stuck in roaming
If you are having problems with the phone being stuck in roaming CDMA mode after the radio flash pull the battery for three hours, then plug the battery back in and boot up. Dial #228 and let Verizon do the OTA magic while you listen to awful music. Also make sure that you have the correct CDMA mode set (Home/A/B) depending on your network setting.
