Hi Guys
OK so I am sure I am having a massive blonde moment here as I have installed custom roms to my phones and tablets many times but any insight would be greatly appreciated, feel free to call me an idiot when you point out the obvious . Everytime I flash C-Rom from CWM I get stuck on the Galaxy S4 initial boot screen.
Phone Details
GT-I9505 (Australia - Telstra)
PDA: I9505XXUEND1
CSC: I9505TELENC1
Modem: I9505XXUEND1
Android 4.3
Stock Firmware
Stock Kernel
CWM Recovery
Rooted (First was Knox safe rooted then tried manually rooted and SuperSU disabling Knox)
Edit: before anyone asks yes I formatted data, did a CWM wipe data, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache.
Edit2: CM11 + KT kernel flashes and boots fine but as soon as I flash C-Rom and KT it get stuck on the boot logo
Thanks
XxInvictus
Bumpity bump, can anyone help?

Am I understanding you correctly that you flash C-rom and KT kernel? What happens when you only flash C-rom?
Did you try a different recovery? Like TWRP?
I have tried it just by itself, I only really installed KT Kernel after I was running out of ideas, haven't tried another recovery as others have had it work with CWM but I have tried more than one version of CWM

And as I predicted stupid mistake, used HashCalc, the rom download was corrupt, redownloaded and all OK.
OP = Idiot
Thanks anyway for attempting to help Lennyz

Hi everyone.
For years I've been coming here finding answers to problems that I've had. It seems I'm finally special enough to have to make a new thread.
Phone: S4 Gt-I9505
Carrier: Vodafone New Zealand
I rooted my phone with cf-autoroot and CWM on the stock 4.2.2 version of android. I then went looking for ROMs and found the leaked (didn't know it was at the time) 4.3 version from google. I installed that and whoopee! We got along well for the first two days, but I restarted my phone on day three and that's where the problem started.
Upon reboot, my phone powered onto the Samsung splash screen, but went no further. Confused, I did a factory recovery in CWM and it still didn't go. I reinstalled the rom and it went again fine, until reboot when it hung on the splash screen again. I tried various roms and fixes and just made a mess of my phone.
Long story short, I now have TWRP on my phone with the abyss 1.3.1F kernel installed and no ROM. Is there any step by step process that someone could give me on how to proceed with TWRP and which ROM/kernel to install to get me up and running again? Not fussy on which rom but one with no bloatware would be excellent. I would be eternally grateful! :fingers-crossed:
Thanks!
Download the latest version which is I9505XXUBMGA either Odin or CWM from here, if you flash via Recovery you need to wipe data & factory reset, cache partition and dalvik cache before flashing but you can flash via Odin
I prefer to use Philz Touch recovery than TWRP

Thank you Crauze, Will try now.
EDIT: That rom is going to take ages to download. I'll update when it's done in a few hours.

Hi, you have touched on an issue I am trying to understand.
Do you only need to wipe you data and caches when you used custom recovery to flash a ROM but not when you use Odin on a PC?

The above answer worked perfectly. Thank you!

I haven't flashed a custom ROM via Odin before but boot into Recovery and wipe data & factory reset, cache partition and dalvik cache and power off device and boot into Download Mode and flash via Odin
Hi guys,
I'm having a weird problem. I've used a i9100 and i9300 in the past and have flashed hundreds of different ROMs, kernels and recoveries. I was running WanamLite on my i9505 until I wanted to switch to PAC Alpha 4.3. I had a few problems installing it (didn't want to go past the boot logo) but eventually with TWRP it worked. I wasn't too happy with the alpha version (freezes here and there) and switched to Omega 9 4.2.2. Installed Xposed framework, rebooted and got stuck on boot. I couldn't access the recovery immediately, first I had to remove the battery, wait and after a few tries I was in the recovery. Removing Xposed framework, wiping data, cache, dalvik cache didn't help Omega 9 to boot up. I re-installed Omega 9 and did a restart without installing Xposed framework, and it froze on boot. Same thing happened when I installed WanamLite, Echoe and Google Experience ROMs and did a restart after the successful first boot after installation.
The only way to get past this problem is to:
a) flash the pre-rooted, original Samsung MGA ROM
b) enter recovery and wipe data/factory reset
If I skip b) then it will just enter a boot loop (boot halfway, reset, boot halfway, reset...)
It's driving me crazy. I do not want to use the original ROM and have no idea what is causing this behavior. I appreciate your help.
Here the information of the working MGA ROM:
4.2.2
I9505XXUBMGA
3.4.0-1081224

This happens with many including me some time with many diffrnt files chainging and overwriting causes the same
Best option as u said above flash stock firmware
Then u can try what I feel will work better in ur case
Root the phone with CF root method
Flash Philz Recovery
wipe cache / dalvik / ix perm and reboot and go ahead with ur Rom flashing
Ok, flashed the stock ROM which was not rooted, then rooted using CF's method and flashed PhilZ. I couldn't find the option to fix permissions in PhilZ recovery, and went ahead with the installation of Omega 9 after wiping. I couldn't even get Omega to boot, previously it worked on the first boot and then no longer after a restart.
I don't know whats going on here.
I'm flashing the pre-rooted MGA now.

Pre-rooted MGA works fine, but no other custom ROM.
I ran TriangleAway to reset the counter, but that didn't help either. No third party custom ROMs for me. :crying:
Flash latest Philz recovery.
Go to mounts and storage.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A ROM ON SD CARD.
Format system, cache, data and preload.
then just to be sure everything is gone I go to wipe /data factory reset and choose the wipe to install a new rom.
Then go to install zip and flash rom.
Once it's flashed you should be good to reboot.
If you're still in a bootloop then go to wipe/data factory reset but choose first option not the one to install rom.
Now reboot again, good to go!
Just a thought, if you're still having trouble flash a AOSP kernel in Philz as you might be trying to boot an AOSP rom with a TW kernel installed

You need to wipe data, system, and the caches before you flash the rom.

After you flash/install a stock fw or a custom rom, you should do a factory reset and ur bootloop will go away.

hello, i have done this also. still there
it still gets stuck at Samsung screen
bump
Well, I'm not positive about that variant but if the bootloader is locked you would need a rom or kernel with loki or you would need a custom recovery with auto-loki. If you look at the kernel you flash instead of boot.img in the zip it will be boot.lok. Not sure if this is the case for your phone but you should look into it if you haven't already.
You probably also have a bad download..please check your download rom md5 make sure they're matching ..if not re-download ..
Hi!
I use Google edition s4 ROM, and i really like it. But when it receives an update do i have to factory reset everytime? Im on 20150614, with CWM 6,0,4,7.
Id really really appreciate a fast answer
Also, if i wish to switch Kernel from Alucard to Googy-Max, is it ok to Wipe dalvik cache, and then flash kernel?
EDIT: the rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2557353
bump?
Dirty flashes should be OK, however the ROM thread you linked to should have provided the answer. Regardless, you really should change that recovery to TWRP. Clockworkmod is no longer being supported and people are having difficulty installing some custom ROMs with it.
Wiping cache is fine when changing kernels.
Thanks for the help
Btw. I dont know how to change recoveries? XD. Is it Just using Odin like with cwm? And do i have to remove cwm first / wipe device?
No, u can just flash ur new recovery through cwm
Okay. What is the preferred TWRP? Do you possibly have a link ?
Asking because i cannot find the S4 i9505 on their site?
EDIT: I managed to install it via the App they've made. It is much nicer than CWM. Thanks for the help both of you
Ok ive tried to flash 2 different kernels multiple times now.
Tried Googy-Max, and the phone wont boot android ?
Tried Hulk, and it took forever to boot, then rebooted immediately etc.
Am i flashing kernels wrong?, i did dalvik/cache wipe after the flash
Note 910C UK N910CXXU2COL2_N910COLB2COL1_THL ROM = can't install any other ROM - HELP
I'm in the UK and recently had some problems with bootlooping N910C, I then installed N910CXXU2COL2_N910COLB2COL1_THL to get the phone working.
I now want to install a different ROM - probably CM13 or Sixperience - I'm very open to suggestions of a low bloat mature ROM - if any exist....
Is there any obvious reason why my attempts at installing different ROMS all fail ?
Thanks for reading....
Is anyone out there ?
How are you trying to install roms? I think you have flashed a locked bootloader so won't be able to to odin any earlier base but custom roms should still flash through custom recovery. What errors are you getting?

Hi sawdoctor,
I followed these instructions:
1) Put the zip file in your SD Card
2) Reboot in Recovery Mode (use Twrp or Philz Recovery)
3) Wipe Data, Cache, Dalvik Cache and format /System (If running Philz Recovery use the "Clean before install a new rom" option)
4) Install the ROM
5) Reboot.
From Philz and got a bootloop, 3 times so far.
I then have to install THL 5.1.1 from Odin as nothing else seems to work - also I can't get a nandroid backup from current ROM or back up EFS - so experimenting is a bit risky....
Which rom are you trying to install? Also are you sure it's bootloop, if you flash a deodexed rom through recovery then first boot can take 15 mins

After a fresh install of a custom rom it could take as much as 20+ minutes, I know because it took my note 4 910c that long to boot into erobot v12
