VPN Apps with OmniROM - Omni Q&A

I apologize if this post is in the wrong area or off topic. I use an app called TunnelBear for VPN services. Staying hidden as much as possible seems pretty relevant these days. Anyways, it seems rooting and custom roms seems to negatively affect TunnelBear's usefulness. TunnelBear still works for me while using OmniROM, but I was wondering if anyone knows why the TunnelBear Devs claim this conflict. Thank you.
I'm currently using AT&T LG G2 running OmniROM.

simplex wireless-n and b03 vs b05?

can someone please tell me about simplex wireless-n in general. just curious as to if it would benefit me in anyway. i do have a wireless n router as well as a g router bridged to it. i guess my question is what does for the phone.
i am also interested in the liberated b05 rom and would like to know more about it. i am currently running b03 and just wanting to see if their are any BIG differences between the two before i flash a new rom. keep in mind that i just want a working phone without too many bugs but i love new features!
and yea im a noob! so take it easy on me. just trying to learn this stuff. im going into computer programming specifically for phones and gadgets and such, so the more i can learn now the easier i will have it later. thanks for any imput
I will point you to the change log on this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=708434
As you have a wireless N router this will benefit you in a speed boost at home. Thought I believe that 5gz spectrum is not available just the 2.4gz? Anyway I run the b005 without any problems and it has proven a stable rom.
Cool thanks, I was aware of the change log. just wanted Some opinions.

I am not an expert but I believe the "wireless-n" means you get faster speeds, more bandwidth. Obviously just like your computer. The "simplex" part means that they have only been able to get this working in One direction. Either sending or receiving but not both at the same time. So in that respect it is not the same as a computer as that can do wireless-n in duplex. Still it should be a good boost in speed if you are downloading files, etc...

[Q] How to fix wifi drops in kernel source?

Hi all,
I am experiencing occasional wifi drops when streaming music. Unfortunately, this is a known problem on stock. Some custom kernels (e.g., Franco's) have made some improvements to the kernel to prevent these wifi drops. I know I can use one of those kernels, but I prefer them stock and moreover, I prefer to compile the system myself. However, I cannot find these changes that fix the wifi issue (I browsed through all the developer's github accounts, but can't find it). Could someone point me in the right direction? Which files should be altered? Thanks in advance!!
Mark
Franco uses stock WiFi drivers. He didn't tweak/modify them. The WiFi issue has to be fixed by Google. It's been a known issue. Interestingly enough I haven't experience it yet.
Probably you should really ask the developers about it.

Thanks. I know I could ask the developers, but I thought I'd try it here first (so i wouldn't bother them) I read something about fixing the wifi issue in changelogs, so that's why I assumed some developers had tweaked the drivers. But I'll ask them!

<<<Clarifications about AOSP ROMs before jumping ship!>>>

So I'm still on stock LG ROM.
I have always liked and used AOSP ROMs on all my previous phones and now I want to use Android 4.4.2 but I have please some questions about these ROMs for our G2 before going into this:
1-Un-intrusive calls: (call popup)
Does "call heads" or "call popout" from play store work perfectly and can replace original LG implementation of this feature?!
1'-Does OmniROM implementation work perfectly always like LG's?!?
2-Call recordings:
Is there is any call recorder apps that work on these ROMs like the xposed module of G2?
I mean clear phone call recording of BOTH ends (perhaps on kernel level).
3-Screenshots editing
Is there is any app that is similar to quick memo and allows quick taking, editing and sharing of screenshots on the go?!
4-Screen casting (Miracast)
Does screen casting on these ROMs work like on stock LG?
I have a smart TV and I cast photos, videos etc... to my TV with just a simple click.
5-GRAM
Does GRAM work on these ROMs as far as you know?
6-AOSP camera
Is now AOSP camera 13MP or it is still on 8MP?
How is its quality compared to LG one?
7-FM radio
Any way to get FM radio working on these ROMs?
8-Stability and bugs
How is stability on these ROMs? Any known bugs?
Is there is any nasty wakelocks or something to worry about?
Does YouTube works?
Gaming performance?
9-Battery life
How is battery life compared to stock?
Please include numbers/screenshots if possible.
10-Exchange emails
I have always had bad experience with Exchange emails on AOSP ROMs.
Push email never allows phone to go to sleep and even with high intervals as high as 4hrs I still had like 2 hrs of wakelocks due to this email.
This LG G2 is the only phone where I have none of these issues.
11-LTE
LTE on these ROMs?
Thank you all for answering all these if possible :victory: :fingers-crossed:
That's quite a list you have there. I think you'd be better off making a backup of your stock set up and then flashing a ROM and testing out some of these questions for yourself.

Excuse me to say that you're both trying to be smart!
First, I will install some AOSP roms anyways.
Second, still after doing so, many of the clarifications I asked about will still be unknown to me since I am about replacement apps or methods that I don't know or others...
Bottom of the line, if you're helpful you are most welcomed, if not please don't answer! That's better for your image!

Seriously.. I don't want to be an ass. But flashing and testing for yourself would have been faster than writing your post.. Just saying.
Merry Christmas..
Nobody is trying to be smart with you Life Engineer. The fact is, your best source of information for a comprehensive list such as this, is Google and your own trial and error.
Here in the troubleshooting section of the G2 forums, it's very off topic to be asking some of these questions, like the specific ones looking for replacement apps or that one about battery life and explicitly requesting empirical evidence.
None of us are trying to be rude here, it's just that what you're asking for someone(s) to do, comes across as your own dirty work. And honestly, I don't think anyone that reads this is going to give more than maybe one straight answer.
In any case I wish you the best of luck and hope you find what you're looking for.

Well thanks for your kind reply and wishes!
In fact yes, I'm still full of hope that someone will help me appropriately as I would do if I stumbled on similar questions and I had some answers.

Did not Jesus also preach something like,"it is better to teach a man to fish than give him a fish."
Find a rom in the forum of your carrier you find interesting and try it. Most of your concerns can and will be answered there.

just make sure you make a nandroid backup of your stock rom :good:

Please take a look here and understand that your "Jesus' favorite wisdom" is an idea that is part of every religion/ethic that ever existed and by that way older than the story about Jesus itself.

Can I donate to you for this genius answer?
Strange, but I almost thought this was the Q&A section, exclusively for what this individual is doing asking questions for which he seeks answers to.
Since the lot of you have obviously no answers that help this individual with his very specific questions that are simply answered with a yes or a no, could you kindly refrain from commenting at all and possibly crawl back into the holes from which you have come.

I dunno about any ROMs having call recording integrated into the ROM but I do know that Call Recorder should work just fine.
Screen recording and screen casting works on PAC-man and ChameleonOS 4.4 ROMs, as well as plain ol' CM-11.0 with the Screencast app
https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.cyanogenmod.screencast
Still not sure about GRAM. I was actually looking for some more info on it when I stumbled across this thread.

[Q] Best Privacy App (XPrivacy, LBE, etc.)

I was using LBE in my old phone and I've been using XPrivacy in my tablet.
It seems that LBE has a lot of problems with some devices, so I was trying to avoid it.
I like XPrivacy, but it has so many options that makes me uncertain of what to check (and what could be harmful) and what not.
So, I thought I would ask what people are using and recommend.
FWIW, I am not rooted but still stock ROM. I am planning to soon install either Infinity or Alliance ROM on my 900T.
Thanks!

ROM Recommendations for Atrix 4G

I have been scouring the forums for a long time now and after many flashes I'm still not quite happy with what I have come across. It just hurts going back to GB because I find apps that aren't compatible, so I suppose that I'm asking for help finding an ICS+ ROM that will connect to AT&T, wifi, GPS, and is for the most part stable.
I am not asking for "the best ROM", I do apologize if this breaks the rules but I do want some current information about some good stable ROMs that I can look into. I am asking opinions for those of you that feel you finally have the best setup for you and please include what you don't like it if anything.
You guys obviously don't know me, so you can suggest ROMs for me, I simply want others opinions on they have had luck with perhaps i have missed a retired jewel
Perhaps the CM10+ bugs have been fixed since I've last looked.
I don't recall what it's currently running now, but the calendar app won't work..it's not so much a deal breaker because it generally worked pretty well from I understood, but for someone that relies on a calendar, it's really annoying.
In the mean time I'm going to get back to my search. Thank you very much for any info that any of my Atrix brothers and sisters might share.

Almost everythings works (included Wifi, BT, GPS) in Blur ICS, CM9, CM10 and CM10.1. Now the MIC input for apps (Skype, Googlenow, etc) is an issue in some builds and also HDMI out
Now i'm using AtrICS 2.0 + 24-04 Krystianps kernel, I heavy use Lapdock thats why I need proper HDMI-out
Other HDMI-Out option is CM10 (with old 2.3 kernel), I'll test that later
CM 10.1 doesnt have HDMI-Out but performs really good. Nice battery managament
