I noticed that the FoxFi developers have released version 4.16 of PDAnet+ which includes a fix for the Verizon Samsung phones on KitKat. Should we have hope that a fix is around the corner for the Verizon Motorola phones on KitKat?
So this update does not fix this for Maxx?

No. The update only addresses the Samsung phones. There is apparently some difference with the Motorola phones the needs to be addressed. The good news is that the FoxFi developers have a past proven record for success and there are a lot of Motorola phones in need.
A 4.17 FoxFi update was completed on 6/13/2014 that adds the Verizon HTC to the list now working with 4.4 (KitKat). I am hopefully optimistic that 4.18 will include a fix for the Verizon Motorola phones.

I've been on T-mobile for a long time, but finally needed better coverage and switched to Cricket. My poor Nexus 4 is stuck in Android 5.0 hell, and I'm desperately waiting for the 5.1 update to fix things. Will I still get the OTA update now that I'm on Cricket? I wasn't sure if it's the carrier or manufacturer or Google that the OTA updates originate from.
I'm about to make the move to the S5 from my HTC One (M7). Before I make that investment, I want to make sure I'm not going to be screwed out of tethering. I have an unlimited data plan with Verizon, and live in a rural area, so my phone is my home ISP.
Since I would be buying a phone from an eBay vendor, I have no control over which firmware version would come installed. So here's my questions.
1. Are there any firmware versions for which root is not available? I've looked through various threads, and haven't found a concrete answer on this.
2. If there are firmware versions for which root is unavailable, and I'm unfortunate enough to purchase a phone which comes with that firmware version, does the latest version of FoxFi support the latest OTA firmware?
Thanks!

I think you'll be okay.

Evidently there is at least one firmware version that makes it impossible, for the time being, to downgrade from. http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/help/downgrade-oe1-t3149085
This brings me back to my second question. Can anyone confirm if FoxFi works on the OE1 firmware?
I was looking for this same info and couldn't find it. Now I figured I'd post the answer.
I still have Verizon Unlimited Data.
I received a brand new S5 today. It came with OG5. I have not attempted to root it. I installed FoxFi and WiFI tethering/mobile hotspot works just fine. I have not enabled "HD Voice", either, and I just tested and verified that I can have a voice phone call going and my hotspot still works. It gave me 44Mbps down/12 up on my connected tablet, while I had a voice call connected.
As an aside, I don't get what the deal is with Verizon pushing HD Voice as a way to have simultaneous voice and data. Simultaneous voice and data (while on 4G LTE) worked on my S4, which didn't even support HD Voice, apparently, and works on the S5 with HD Voice not turned on.
You're good as far as rooting is concerned.
KitKat, and Lollipop up to version BOD5 can be downgraded. Root method here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...w-to-update-to-g900voe1-5-0-keeproot-t3149784
BOE1, BOG5, and BOK3 are the latest Lollipop, and the bootloader cannot be downgraded. A root method for these was finally released a couple weeks ago: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/root-method-og5-ok3-t3290370

I believe you're all good the latest versions of lollipop are rootable.. and yes if you root it you can fix the tethering. Or even flash a custom ROM I don't think Verizon selling any of the KitKat versions of s5 I think they're all on lollipop. Hope that helps
I've had my 6P on Sprint since i bought it and always updated monthly via fastboot flash. I just switched to Verizon and im using Jan 2017 factory image...same as when i was on sprint. Everything works. Now there are new factory images for Feb 2017, 1 for Verizon only and 1 for the rest of the phones. My question is, what's the difference with the Verizon only image? Am i losing some features because i'm not on the Verizon only update? Also, if i do flash the Verizon only update, can i flash non-Verizon update down the line?
Thanks. Phone works fine without the Verizon only update....so i'm a little hesitant to flash Verizon only unless there is some real benefit.
Hi... Verizon only version contains a different radio.img. That's all I'm aware off. Verizon users should confirm

I believe this is accurate. While I haven't tried it, I am on Verizon and flashed the "all except Verizon" build when it first came out (because I was impatient and didn't want to wait )...everything worked perfectly, until I realized when I called other VZW cell phones I couldn't reach their voicemail - calls would just terminate after 4 rings or whatever.
The resolution to this was simply reverting back to an older radio, and then everything worked flawlessly. Pretty obvious that something with Verizon's system didn't like the radio that they used in that build - so makes complete sense that that's the only difference.
The only difference is that the Verizon build contains a different radio.img. The older radio in the build for all has problems with Verizon's voicemail system. If you flash the Verizon one and you don't like it you can always go back to the other build or even easier just flash the radio from the build for all in fastboot.

First of all, the February update NUF26K brings many security fixes, in addition to the different baseband (v03.79)mentioned earlier that has Verizon carrier specific fixes. You should flash it for both these reasons.
does verizon lock your 6p into their system--their style..........
Which OTA is for Verizon? I read a few of the more recent posts but I only see people talking about N2G47E and J.. What is K? Which one is for Verizon or do I just use E?
K is the most current for Verizon.

NHG47K
Slightly off topic, but related....
I bought my Pixel from Google, and I updated it to 7.1.2 N2G47E after unlocking. I have been setting up the phone on Wi-Fi only since the update. As soon as a inserted my VZW SIM, my phone says a have an update for 7.1.2, about 17.6MB.
Coincidense? Or a VZW specific update?
It's the specific VZ "k" build.

Take it since you are on VZ. It has some changes for their network. Got it on mine, no issues.

Mine has US99717a, with security patch level dated January 1, 2018.
@sp_1st_timer Thanks!
Contacted LG, their first line of defense insisted it was a US Cellular variant until I escalated. Turns out their regular support people don't have the carrier free version in their system. Days pass... No further response from LG. I guess I'll wait a few weeks & see what happens, if nothing It'll be LinageOS like my other devices, or Maybe time to sell.
Was it rooted?
Sorry for the noob question, it's probably been asked on here, but have not been able to find a solid answer. I have a US Cellular LG G6, which by now I know bootloader can't be unlocked. But, is there any way to update to Android Oreo? Currently on Android Nougat 7.0. thanks in advance.
