Blocking OTA - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After last night I'm running the rooted 4.4.2. I installed Titanium Backup Pro. How do I block OTA updates to protect my current installation?
Thanks.

If it's the deodexed version Beans already removed it. Otherwise freeze localFOTA or FotaClient. I also froze FWUpgrade, SamsungUpdates and the two Software Update apk's as well.

Thanks. I'm on the Odex version.

This is what I do to block updates to the phone that could take root away or other features unique to the leaked ROM. For browser ads you could try Adaway.

I don't see Adaway in the Play Store. You will have to use the link I provided.

Boy??? I was a boy a LONG time ago... lol. The link is 3 and 4 posts up. Left click your mouse on the orange Adaway.

Any way/guide to root the GT-I9500 MG9?

Hello guys, i am using the xda premium app i used search function but i couldnt find anything, my baseband is I9500XXUBMG9, i was wondering if there was a way to root it??
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda premium
Hi! I don't think your baseband has anything to do with rooting so chainfire's auto root should work.

I think you'll still can get an OTA update if you just root the device
I don't know for sure, I didn't have time to try. Update in my country is at very slow pace, and after I root my device I haven't get update while the newest update rolling out at other country but not in my country, so I decided to install custom ROM to get latest update asap

Yes, I'm using titanium backup too for backing up and restoring apps, it's very usefull and it's worth to buy the pro version.
I think you'll also need OTA Rootkeeper to protect the root if there's OTA update so you can root your device easily, still, haven't try these yet because I already use custom ROM, but I still have it just in case I'll need it sometimes in the future. Me, I use voodoo OTA rootkeeper, the first one I found in playstore, don't know if there are any others.
Still don't know many much since this is my first time using rooted android and still learning about this device, that's least info I know and can share with you.

Can you patch stagefright and keep root?

I have seen reports of a few people getting carrier patches for the Stagefright exploit. Is it, or more importantly, will it be, possible to just fix stagefright without upgrading from 4.4.4, for example? I like my KitKat, but don't want a vulnerable phone. Thanks in advance.
probably not, this is the primary reason updates exist
Bump, I'd like to know this too
updates will be released only for the latest build for each model.
So no patch-without-upgrade for sure..
some SMS apps have disabled the auto-processing of media function that is used by the stagefright exploit. I know Yaata SMS has mentioned that in the update log, but not sure about other SMS apps.

Its exploitable via App or web page....
Updates on Stagefright: Get root and disable it in build.prop.
I've created and attached a simple .patch file for this
Cheers

There is a download link there for kitkat stagefright files.
Result in Bootloop on KitKat on Samsung skyrocket.

I'm not sure because I haven't taken the 2nd update yet. If you are on PB5 you are can try downgrading to PB4 with the files here. It will either downgrade or not. I doubt it will hurt anything if it fails.

Thanks so much! I will give this a shot once I figure out the best way to back up my sms/mms. Do you know what firmware the phone shipped with?

No problem at all. I'm not sure what the phone was shipped with but PB4 was the 2nd update, my guess would be PB3. I use the Verizon messaging app because it's easy to make a backup.

Thanks again. The downgrade to PB4 worked. I'll post in the stock firmware thread for others who may want to do the same.

So when you do an over the air update does it update your bootloader?
Device runs hotter than before with this update, also got a overheated message after I came back to view if update was completed. Never had this before.
Check, another fail I guess.

You think you are gonna get a different answer if you post this question in different threads? If you read about Magisk, you would know it only works with unlocked bootloaders. Maybe in the future someone will get something to work, and as soon as that happens it will be posted here in the forums..
So is this version rootable with engboot or not? I cannot find a definite answer.
