Constantantly getting a Security Policy Update notification saying policies are already up to date. Auto update is unchecked under Security Settings. Anyone else getting these notifications?

Yes. Root...where are you?
Sent from my SM-G900V using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Seems like I get the message when I update or install an app from Play.
Sent from my SM-G900V using xda app-developers app
Yep. Few times a day and EVERY time the phone reboots.
Does anyone know what these security updates are?
Yes... I have been getting these notifications that just started this morning.
A couple of days ago, I downloaded 4.4.2 and used Odin to install on my N7100, Rooted, stock ROM and kernel.
Before that, I understood that installing a ROM from another location, like the French ROM, might trigger some not-so-good stuff.
In the notification drawer I got the notification "Knox Security Policy Update... Tap here to allow automatic updates for...." and that's all there was because I didn't want to tap on the notification in case it was going to reactivate Knox and break Root.
I cleared the notifications, but it came back on reboot.
One thing that I noticed is that in searching for Knox in Root Explorer, with 4.3, there were only about eight or so files previously, now there are about 15 additional ones (didn't actually count them, but I have to scroll down in order to see the whole list).
This is gonna sound dumb, but I actually went into Kies (Which, by the way I never use) and got a message that there are updates for my device.
Well, since 4.4.2 Is the latest update for the N7100, I thought that possibly Samsung had pushed out 4.4.3, but in Kies there was no info in the software version field... it was just blank, so I left it alone because this was hot on the heels of that Knox Security Policy Update notification, so I'm leaving well enough alone for the time being until I get some definitive information from somebody here that actually knows what he's doing.
Losing root isn't the end of the world, but it's something that I'd rather not deal with at the moment.
n00b running a Verizon Galaxy S III, SCH-i535. (wrong device forum, explained that in last line of post)
Just updated (via Kies) from android 4.1.2 to 4.4.2 kitkat - and (of course) lost root access.
Used towelroot to get it back, already had SuperSU installed, so updated that, seemed to work fine. (using "su" command in terminal emulator returned a # prompt, and apps that request root permissions get blocked by SuperSU until I give the OK)
Now there is a shield shaped icon in the notification drawer, and it shows the following header and text when the drawer is open:
Security policy updates 07-04-2014
Tap here to allow automatic updates for the protection of your phone.
Clearing notifications makes it go away, but it reappears when the device is rebooted.
Installing/uninstalling apps via Play did not cause the notification to reappear, nor did locking/unlocking the phone.
Posting this here because it is the only thread I could find (on multiple sites, not just this one!) containing the same issue I am experiencing. Anyone know what this is yet, or how to get rid of it?
I get these too. I believe they are telling you that there are currently no issues with the phone's security. As others have said, I get them when I first connect to Wifi, when I restart the phone, or when I install an application. I haven't been able to find much information on the notifications, but I'm guessing a policy is updated with new information when an application is installed. If you root you can freeze the updates. I just deal with them, I think they're essentially telling me I don't have any compromising applications installed.

I searched about this but I can not find a solution I want to disable all automatic app updates I only found answer do disable automating updates one by one in the Market app but I want to disable them all for I do not waste traffic when I am on 3G data with Wi-Fi I am OK. Does deactivating auto app sync in background under sync and account config do the trick? Even if it does I prefer the option disable all that I think the Market app once add because I need that some apps communicate with the net.
Thanks in advance
Poke around in settings, I know I have automatic updates disabled but I can' t seem to find the settings. In order for me to update, I have to go in to "My Apps" and manually update them.
This isn't the perfect solution to your quandary, but I don't think there is one...
In the Market app, go to Settings, and under Notifications change it from "Notify me" to "Do not notify me".
This will at least keep Market from checking for updates in the background (if I'm not mistaken), and your apps won't be automatically updated unless you open the Market app (again, if I'm not mistaken).
I seen that option but though that was just for notification purposes but In the computing world intuition is not always respected so I belive that will do the trick.
I will try it and post results
i am puzzled by this, but unless you have some sort of ungodly amount of apps installed you can go through the 'my apps' section and uncheck the update automatically check box and since it is off by default you will never have to do it again
Care to explain a little better are you referring disable automating updates one by one in the Market app as I said in my original post?
Thanks
You could also try Droid Wall and try to disable the Market from using 3G Data, and only use your home internet data or whatever.
In Titanium Backup, you can do this. Hardware menu button>more>market auto updates. This option may only be available in the paid version, I dunno. But Titanium is an awesome app and well worth the money.
I think this is what you're looking for...

I tried that but in the first day of August in less then a hour I used all my traffic in my 100mb data plan and I was just reading sites with no heavy java or images, called the phone company and they confirmed that was traffic.
"In the Market app, go to Settings, and under Notifications change it from "Notify me" to "Do not notify me" actually I think this only worsened the issue because when i lost all my allowance I did not see any notification of updates happening if I would be notified i would try to cancel the updates as i already did a few times although this option works randomly.
This issue is pertinent and lots of people are experiencing the same

I think I am not rooting anymore because I ordered an Xperia Play and I will sell the Nexus One if everything runs well with the Play
well first I have this problem where my phone tells me there is an update, but I tap on that message and it takes me to the market with no updates needed - or I will get a message that says 6 updates available and there are only 5 of them on the list - WTF?
I been gettin the same msg the last couple days with no updates when I go to the market. Most the time when I do have updates it never showes in the status bar.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I have had this message for about 3 months so far - just about every single day!
is it maybe a malicious update of sorts that has figured out how to hide it self but cant hide the update message or something like that?
This has been a known bug ever since the marketplace 3.0 launch. I'm pretty used to it by now. It's not malicious, just annoying.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Are you using more than 1 Google account? That was happening to me until I realized the Market was showing me apps for the wrong account. Hit menu -> accounts to change it.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Happens all the time to me also. Market just has some fundamental bugs. I also get a varying number of apps because some decide to "vanish" for a while. Solution is to clear market cache and data. Unfortunately this resets all the settings including security.
I only have 1 account
I have noticed that at times there are apps that wont show up even if I search for them as if its blocked or something like a region lock, it will go away and I can find the app after a restart or sometimes a day has to go by - but is there any way to hack the market sorta like you can remove the region lock on movies
I have this problem every single day, is there a fix for it yet?
check each app you have on market to see if it need an update
Someone on the Amazon forums has reported getting a software update to 6.3.
I have droidwall blocking a lot of stuff in hopes of avoiding the automatic update. We shall see...
Someone reported it on The Verge too. Nothing on Amazon's site about the software update, though.
6.3 was pushed out to my Kindle today as well.
there's now a parental controls on/off toggle option in the 'more' menu, not sure what it might control yet (would be nice if it protects from purchasing apps w/o a password). *update*: parental control restricts wifi use (going online requires the parental control set 4+ character password). however, there's no options to lock the wifi immediately after screen lock, or a certain timeout, etc. appears you need to manually disable the wifi after you use it to re-enable parental control.. also doesn't require password for downloading/purchasing from amazon app store (would've be nice).
Also seeing that the screen can now be dimmed lower (i noticed that first, since i keep the brightness at lowest setting, after the update it stayed at lowest setting, but was noticably dimmer. I also compared it visually w/another kindle i have that's still at 6.2.2 while both are at their lowest brightness setting)
I'm noticing pulse reader has been updated as well (from 2.4.3 to 2.7.6).
6.3_user_4019920 got pushed to my device a short while ago and I lost access to root. There is a little information on the Kindle Fire site from Amazon that says 6.3 is coming and lists some of the new features. I was in the middle of something and all the sudden my fire restarted and I lost my root.
Direct link for anyone who's interested:
http://kindle-fire-updates.s3.amazonaws.com/update-kindle-6.3_D01E_4019920.bin
Still nothing on the Amazon site about it, though. I just figured out the link.
Amazon says that is is coming soon and lists some details on a update. It is on the fire update page under 6.2. Sorry I can not post a link to it.
Thanks for the link - each new version's download has been about a meg bigger than the last one, but this one is an 11 meg jump - wonder what's grown so much!
Please excuse my ignorance on the issue, I haven't used stock rom since I pulled my first Kindle Fire out of the box...But, is there a way to disable automatic updates? Isn't forcing updates on someone pushing the boundaries of what's actually legal?
Isn't that why Microsoft was having so many issues with forcing their "Legit Check" on people?
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium
It is my first update..hope it will not destroy my current settings.
I also got this update today. Now I lost root and Kindle Fire Utility 0.9.3 is not working anymore.
6.3 Update
No more root even here in the other side of atlantic.
Now the solution is wait for the wonderful people of XDA.
Got 6.3 update preloaded into my KF already when I got it. Anyway to download 6.2 on it without root? D;

Just a quick thought did any of you that lost your root capability install Voodoo OTA? Because this app supposedly allows you to keep root even after over the air updates. It's also the primary app I use for watch amazon prime. No 6.3 yet for me, but waiting to see what happens. Also does anyone have a link on how to disable the OTA updates in case future updates break recovery options?

It says coming soon, but the bomb has landed for some users. I still don't have it yet though.

Yes, I had Voodoo OTA installed. I still have access to google services (gmail, calendar, google play, and more) after the 6.3 update but if I go into a program like Titanium Backup it say there is no root to the system. I can click on restore root in voodoo and there is a pop up that "root su restored" but nothing happens. So there is no root access anymore.

This displeases me. Well DroidWall it is then. Thanks for the update. I will let it come through once I know there is a custom recovery (root) solution. Until then I blocked most of Amazon's services.
I will be updating with a new exploit within the week. I have had a second one in the waiting for a while, I just need to package it properly.

Guys, Ive seen the other posts, about this issue, and want to know a few things.
First off I am new here, and new to phone programming and general security issues on them as well. So if I jack this up, my bad.
I have a Galaxy Note 2 AT&T SGH-I317 stock (not rooted)
Its running
android 4.1.2 kernel vers 3.0.31
build JZO54K.I317UCAMC3
(before you start with check the other posts, I have tried the reset "power, home and volume button" and chose number 4 to clear all partition cache, also ran in safe mode to see if it was a downloaded app, still didn't work) I also want to know what is causing it, before I do the "applications manager reset all apps" Got a lot of custom settings and items blocked. Don't want to redo all of it.
So as of last night I was disabling some running process in the application manager. I did it by checking on them before. But, its not like I had the OFFICIAL Droid guide to disabling stuff on your Note2. That being said I take care to do it the best I can. Before I disabled each one, I cleared the cache of each one (if it was a option) and unchecked Show notifications. Force stopped them, and disabled each one.
Starting around 2pm CST the next day, my phone started to lock up, messenger will not work, phone app crashes after every call. But I was using it all morning on twitter, and instagram with no issues. And various other will not load etc. What could cause this? and is there a official list of applications for note2 with what they do and what they control.
Short list of disabled applications from last night are
Market Feedback Agent
LogsProvider
Google Play services, and Play store.
Google Partner Setup
DRM Protected Content Storage
DioDict3services (not sure about this one)
com.google.andriod.voicesearch
com.android.providers.partnerbookmarks
Search Applications Provider, (found on android.forms to be ok to disabled)
TopicWall
Thank y'all in advanced.

Is there a way I can save the whole phone on to drive to send to someone to take a closer look to see what virus is on here Im guessing it's a rootkit some how also what way would you run packet capture to see things that way?

a virus would be software related...if you did a full wipe and installed fresh software and it continues it might be an app you keep installing...do you get your apps from the playstore or side load as well

playstore only before my phone was locked boot loader and encrypted to have to use pin to boot device.
AS SOON as i get the buggy phone and reboot when it boots up it no longer request pin to boot. on stock rom i was rebooting phone every week to see how long it would take and usually nothing odd until phone got buggy for reason of the reboot.
the buggy issue is shortly opening an app the app will freeze so i hit home nothing happends try to turn the screen off nothing happends until a minute later sometimes phone will reboot its self or i hold power to make it reboot but both take about same amount of time when phone goes into full freeze.
so it being a playstore app and the virus not getting detected google needs to look into how they can patch this...
so im putting this out there so this person or group doesnt forever have a backdoor into peoples phones.
this issue i have had since november last year but havent been so aware about the issue till august. since august ive been dealing with know some how they are getting in and must be an app but i got rid of all games and weird apps that are not nessisary

these are all the apps ive had since ive had this issue.
i was hopping that esfiles exploreres new feature of being notified of new files would help solve this but some folders it doesnt detect like youtube or google music even though in es files explorer i unlocked ability to view the .nomedia
Drop ES File Explorer, to start. Read this article, or do some googling about it on your own;
https://www.androidpit.com/this-is-why-you-should-not-use-es-file-explorer
I have to agree with the article when it says Solid Explorer is a great replacement. I've used it for years now and it's never let me down.
The fact of the matter is, if you manually wiped all of your phone and formatted your internal storage, nothing remains from pre-wipe. If your issue is coming back it can only be a hardware issue (if applicable) or some app you are using, as previously mentioned.
Furthermore, after googling your exact issue I came to find that certain apps that require 'Accessibility Services' can and will disable your pin/password/pattern on boot. Check if any of your apps fit the bill in 'Settings > Accessibility > Services'
Disable any apps which are enabled and reboot. You may have to set up pin, etc., again, but leave the services disabled and see if the issue returns. Let us know!
Edit: Upon more googling, I've found reports of people who had the issue return after disabling & uninstalling the apps in question as well. You may need to flash stock images again and do not install any apps that require accessibility services, or don't grant any of them permission even once.
Edit2: Just another link to check out;
https://blog.g3rt.nl/android-lollipop-encryption-user-interface-flaw.html
Edit3: Issue tracker link; https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=219498
Edit4: If you logged into your bank app and factory reset or flashed factory images, logging in again after the wipe/flash will show as a new device. Same goes for having login alerts set for Google / Facebook, etc. Your same phone shows as a new device after the flash or wipe. Guaranteed not a virus.
