Hello all,
I'm fairly new to rooting and the like (only ever rooted a phone once before), and I need some help getting this figured out.
I've got a ROM successfully installed on the device, but wifi and bluetooth don't work, and trying to install the newest version seems to fail.
I'm running:
ROM: Slim Bean version "Slim-4.3.build.2.2-OFFICIAL-1764"
Kernel: 3.4.67-Slim-4.3-JWR-Build_1.1+
Recovery: Clockworkmod Recovery v6.0.2.3
In CWM, I've tried installing the following images:
Slim-mako-4.4.2.build.3-OFFICIAL3095.zip
pa_mako-4.2-BETA1-20140318.zip
When trying to install the Paranoid Android ROM, it gives the following errors:
Warning: no file contexts
Warning: No file_contextsset_metadata_recursive: some changes failed
E:Error in ---insert file location here---
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
Then it seems to get a bit farther with the SlimBean 4.4.2 install, but says the following:
Format and Mount System, Mount Data. . .
Symlinks and permissions. . .
set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed
E: Error in ---file location again---
(Status 7)
Installation Aborted.
However, when I go back and re-install the 4.3 build, it just plows on through and finishes in a handful of seconds.
Anyone have any idea what I'm missing here? Or what I might need to try?
Yup.Since you said you are running CWM 6.0.2.3...update to latest recovery before updating. CWM latest 6.0.4.7. Also do a clean flash.Your issue will be resolved.

if you try to install a rom and see
Assert failed:
Run_program ("/tmp/check_kernel") ==0
E: Error in /sdcard/
(Status 7)
rom has a kernel check and can not be installed as it is
you need to find a rom version that is compatible with your kernel (system version), or change the system version on phone
if your phone has 2.3.4 system version 4.5.621, it can not be downgraded
use Pooka's CM7 flash with (7.1 Gapps)

That error it's cause by either partition or wrong CWM recovery. I don't remember which...

It's a partition problem.
Just follow the steps to repartition your phone from this post.

This is how I solved the issue.
{A} backup IMEI using 5irom tool.
[1] I downloaded official B138, flashed using dload method.Reboot phone
[2] downloaded official B518 .flashed [upgrading from 2.2 to 2.3]. Reboot phone
[3]rooted the phone using super one click.
[4]downloaded CMW recovery and flashed.
entered download mode [volume up+power]
wiped factory/partition.
in mount and storage>format =cache.data & system.
[5]choose zip from sdcard ,selected forumber partition zip and instal.
[6]AGAIN choose zip from sdcard ,selected forumber partition zip and instal.
[7] choose zip from sdcard > cm10.2 for u8800 version 13.zip
[8]flashed gapps.
[9]reboot system
this method worked for me after it kept hanging on ideos logo every time i flashed the rom. long method but works. Don't forget to backup your imei.
the same problem
solved

Is it safe to assume that you did a factory reset before you tried to flash? Might be a bad download as well. I would not change the name. Also you might try flashing twrp also.

Yes I definitely did a factory reset and cleared cache and dalvik-cache but I haven't tried TWRP because of recovery software preference.

Nothing wrong with that. I had to switch to TWRP when I was doing a nandroid backup and with cwm, it doesn't check to see if you have enough space, it just goes on and then I had a problem on my hands.
Also you will, or might come across a rom that doesn't get along with cwm. Anyway, that's another topic.
Try a full wipe, including the system partition along with the others.

I had gotten the same problem with you! Try flash back to cwm 6.0.4.6 via zip file and flash KOT49H again, you will be successful^^
I have used the latest TWRP to flash many custom ROMs and it has always worked for me.

I've flashed TWRP and had no trouble flashing the ROM. Thanks for the help and I may just try CWM 6.0.4.6 to discover if it's functional and probably switch back to CWM.

I've looked all over but am unable to find an answer to this.
I hadn't used my Nook Color in a while mainly because I was having a recovery bootloop and hadn't had time to research what was going on and correct it. I finally had some time last night and fixed that using leapinlar's excellent thread installing CWM 5.5.0.4 to my sdcard and installing CWM 6.1.0.2 to the alt partition on EMMC.
I decided to update to the latest stable CM, which looks to be 10.2. I downloaded the rom from that thread and the gapps 20130813 package in that thread. I have no issues installing the rom but the gapps package will not install. Every time it gives me the message:
E:Can't open /sdcard/roms/gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
I thought maybe the download was bad and tried the PA gapps package for 4.3 but that did the exact same thing. To make sure I covered every single thing, I did the partition repair steps linked from leapinlar's thread. That ran fine. I was able to reinstall the rom but no dice on the gapps.
Anybody got any ideas on what's going wrong?
Thanks,

I forgot to add that I did redownload a few times as well as trying other gapps packages for 4.3 with the same result. It does strike me though that I don't believe I checked the md5 so I'll try that.

Be sure to download directly from the Nook. Sometimes files get corrupted in the transfer from PC.

It appears there's an issue with downloading files directly on the Nook. I noticed every file I've downloaded through it was 0 b. All of them showed successful downloading and didn't have suspect download times so I'm not sure what happened.

Greetings all,
So I have been trying to redo my Wanam KitKat install due to the foldermount issue and I ran into a couple of issues. Now before someone comments about that awesome app from the app store, yes I use it I just have other reasons to try and get a clean install going.
So first things first, I Odin flash the latest CWM by Sameer, do the necessary wipes and start the install. I then get this error message:
set_perm: some changes failed
E:Error in /data/media/0/ROM Install/wanamlite-v40-nb3.zip
(Status 7)
Installation Aborted
Click to collapse
So I power down the device and Odin flash the latest CWM Touch version and I still get the above message. I then flash Philz Touch 6.07.9 and voila, it installs without an issue. Now one of my other issues to resolve this foldermount issue is because any recovery other than the Philz version mentioned (even the latest Philz) fails to flash any files and has an issue seeing my internal storage.
So I Odin back to my earliest ICS version and try from there. Now the CWM recoveries see the correct folder path but I still get the above error and I did manage to get this code as well:
I: using /data/media for sdcard/0/clockworkmod/ . last_install_path.
I: Cant partition non mmcblk device: /devices/platform/dw_mmc.2/mmc_host/mmc2
Click to collapse
I have tried everything to try and get this to work as it should but I am stuck. Right now I have flashed the old Philz I have and restored a nandroid and the phone is fine. How do I get past these errors?
Any help would be greatly appreciated .
*edit*
I should mention that after the ICS flash I did a factory reset and wiped everything and still had the above errors...
Anyone?
CWM fails with a lot of roms. TWRP is better.
Hi, thanks for the input. Sadly TWRP also fails with the same error:
set_perm: some changes failed
E:Error in /data/media/0/ROM Install/wanamlite-v40-nb3.zip
(Status 7)

Hence the reason for my asking. Its not a bad zip so redownloading it will not get rid of the problem. My recoveries are also good zips otherwise they would not flash. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
