The bottom 1cm of my touch screen no longer works.
I'm getting by using pie and rotating the phone but holy cow is it awkward! Is it possible to:
Recalibrate the touchscreen so that it thinks I'm tapping a bit lower
Or
Constantly render an empty black bar down there so nothing shows up and needs clicking in the area
Or
Replace the digitizer only (don't want to buy a new LCD)
Or..
Anything?
Thanks!

I dropped my phone and the screen now doesnt respond properly: The hardware DID successfully upgrade to the XDA ROM. But touching it causes the backlight to go on, - but most of the keys dont do what one would expect them to do: The phone turns on with a reminder from the calendar on the screen which wont DISMISS or CLOSE. Pressing on the windows logo and then on the phone key causes the calendar to come up and I am not sure which numbers are entered when I do manage to get the phone to come onto the screen (none of the right hand numbers seem to work at all). Does anyone recognise these symptoms and/or could they just show that my SX-56 needs the ROM RE-flashing? I should add that pressing the Master Reset button with this ROM in place seems to make the phone shut off and then when you restart it, all of the data remains in place. I wonder if there is any possibility that the XDA ROM has prevented the reset button from working normally?
A user on another forum said that to him, '"Sounds like the digitiser is up the swanee - have you tried recalibrating it?"
10-12 vertical black lines started appearing to the right hand edge of the screen. Sometimes they are there, sometimes not. THere is usually at last one there somewhere. At about that time the screen stopped responding as I mention. Today the left third started displaying the same veritcal lines, though spaced quite far apart (about a millimetre). Screen doesn't APPEAR cracked: Does this sound like a digitiser and if so, how do you recalibrate it please or is there a link to somewhere on the XDA site which I cant find which might tell me? Or could it be the cable is loose in the circuit board? As you touch the lower right hand corner of the metal casing where the vertical lines are, those lines flash (the right 10 or 12) on and off. And every coloured bar everywhere on the screen or word of text has vertical lines on it (the white parts don't)??
Someone on ebay has said that his phone "fell from my pocket and onto the carpet and the screen cracked, I then used it for about a week" "I sold the screen to someone cause the wanted the touch pad part of the screen for there phone". and wonder what it was he sold or which part can be replaced on it? IS there a touch part and a screen part on this phone?
To be honest, itsounds like you have brocken a connection somewhere between the LCD and the gfx output, probably not possible to repair yourself.
I wonder where the break would be?
I thought that might be the case: I wonder if it would be worthwhile trying to get another screen?
I should probably try to take the unit apart and see if some break somewhere can be identified if it is a break as opposed to some electonic part having failed. It SEEMS to be in the lower right hand corner?
try to download "multi touch paint" from the market.
draw a line across near the bottom of the screen. you'll find it always below where u touch, compare to a line draw across the top of the screen.

Yup seems to be your the only odd-ball, just kidding i couldnt draw the thing either haha.
I get exactly the same behaviour when I draw a line right over the touch-buttons and when I do the same at the very top edge of the screen, can't see anything that looks misaligned.
I have that issue,too.
That happen most likely when I turn my phone side way and try to access the bottom icon on the home screen. The touch screen has 30% chance to be out of alignment.
the line i draw just slightly below where i touch, that is around 2mm, sleep/reboot won't fix it.
I've been having a weird screen issue lately, independent of rom or kernel; my screen won't respond to touch input directly beneath the status bar.
For instance, if I touch an icon or button at the top of the screen, it does not respond at all... Unless I rotate the phone into landscape mode and select the command.
The status bar itself works fine, I just have to tilt the phone to use the area of the screen underneath it. Weird.
Just a shot in the dark, do you have a screen cover that might have lifted a bit?

I have a matte, anti-glare cover, but it's tight as a drum. Not even an air bubble.
Similar thing happened to my last phone. Only it was the bottom corner. Never found a solution. Ended up getting new phone.
I am having trouble with the touch input on an AT&T Galaxy S4 i337 LCD. The phone had minor water damage and the LCD was struggling to turn on all the way. After soaking the LCD assembly in an ultrasonic cleaner for 15 minutes the screen fully loaded and displayed correctly.
However all but the top quarter inch of the screen is recognizing touch input. I have tried the LCD with a known working motherboard and get the same result. When I go into the test mode by pressing *#0*# every part of the screen responds correctly, except the very top portion. When I swipe across the top the line is drawn 1/4" down.
Link to a screenshot of the test.
Otherwise the screen works wonderfully, displays correctly (including the top 1/4"), dims correctly, and accepts touch input everywhere else.
I tried running it through another ultrasonic bath, but I am still having the same problem.
I also flashed the same stock ROM it was already on in Odin. I337UCUAMDL_I337ATTAMDL_I337UCUAMDL_HOME.tar
Does anyone know what could be the cause of the digitizer not recognizing just the very top portion of the screen? It is like the phone has just a slightly shorter resolution according to the digitizer.
Now I know this problem has been asked before but after some extensive searches I can see there are no clean fixes for this.
My Nexus 4 (Android 5.0.2 LiquidSmooth ROM) has started showing ghost touches at the bottom part of the screen. I know there are a lot of explanations available such as digitizer not working, battery being too old etc. But I'm not interested in these hardware issues/fixes.
I have isolated the area of effect as the bottom ~160 pixel height of the device. I then proceeded to use the ADB shell command
wm overscan 0,0,0,160
which removed that portion from the UI. This fixed the effects these phantom touches have on the apps or UI. But a problem still remains that these ghost touches happen in too many numbers and this leaves other usable areas of the screen insensitive to touch. I am guessing this is due to the multi touch limit being reached in that bottom unused part itself. Multi touch testing apps dont pick up touches on the top part of the screen
So my question is, is it possible to remove a part of the screen from the System itself? Ideally a thick black bar of unused area, leaving me with a shorter yet fully working screen? Or atleast is it possible to turn off touch response in that lower part of the screen so that it doesnt max out the multi touch limit?
My Nexus 4's is same too
I think, that ghost touch will work from Screen Digitizer. My Nexus 4's screen digitizer was non-LG's digitizer, it was fake. I need to change that digitizer
I workaround this issue avoid using undervoling in the kernel, and avoid lower temperatures in phone, yes as you read ... this issue give my crazy when my phone was to hot and I tried to cold my phone using one ice cube in screen and back, the temperature of the phone down but ghost touches appears again, so played some videos to warm the phone again and dissapear again.
Don't ask me about how it works, or relation with screen, digitizer or battery, I don't understand but help me to workaround the issue.
