Show hidden apps back on Android 4.4.2 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ever since I upgraded my unlocked S4 (GT-I9505) to 4.4.2 I've been experiencing notable firmware bugs. Some of them are a little less annoying or they just affect one of my apps and I can live with it.
But some are a real pain in the a**.
For example, back on 4.3. I used to hide apps from the grid inside the apps list to clear it up a little bit. If I ever needed to put them back in there, I just had to uncheck them. But with 4.4.2 the option to hide apps is gone... and consequently, there's no option to unhide apps either. So now, I find myself missing apps that I have installed and that I can't add to my homescreen for example, because I can't drag them there from anywhere. I know that I can use apps such as ES File Explorer to create shortcuts on my desktop, but this is just a workaround using a third party app. I'd like to know if there's an actual fix for this.
Also, I've noticed some apps won't boot at start up like they used to. Although this might have to do with the app needing to be updated.
In case this info is needed... My phone is not rooted and I'm using TouchWiz as my launcher.

Found something

Have adw or launcherpro installed, make an activity,(menu-add-activity)
Scroll down the list and there is something called samsung apps. Anyone know what this is for. It opens but its says its empty
Sent from my never been rooted, stock Froyo Epic.
That is also what opens when you try to update the Camera framework...
There is also a Samsung Apps file that is shown in Titanium Backup.
I wasn't sure what it was so I didn't want to freeze or delete it.
I am pretty sure Samsung uses this on their dumbphones to push software updates. The structure is there for updates to the camera and the like, but it seems like they haven't turned on their backend.
samsung apps will be a place where you will be able to buy apps that are similar to those found on samsung tv's, ex. netflix, hulu plus ext..... this feature isn't out yet but dont worry samsung working on it and will release it asap, which means next year...

[Q] After rooting, some apps don't quite behave normally

Bought a new NC last week and manually upgraded it to v1.2. Used ManualNooter last night to get it rooted and after seeing what was added, I don't think I'll be flashing a custom rom because I don't want to lose the standard Nook functionality. (the tab is more for the rest of my family who will want to use it as a reader first, everything else second)
I like that the Google apps were added along with the ability to install apps from the Market and that's really all I need.
I installed another e-reader app (Cool Reader) and found that the Back and Menu buttons are totally ignored while the app is running. Tried launching Soft Keys and the Back and Menu buttons it uses are ignored as well. Not being able to access the settings in Cool Reader prevents me from adjusting the font size or changing other items.
Any idea why this might be happening? Is this an app or device issue, you think? Are there other apps folks have found that experience the same thing that I should look out for?

Rename Apps In App Draw

Hey everyone! Recently migrated phones from a Touch Pro 2 to this (like a lot of you probably did) and have spent the last couple days trying to get used to the Android OS. So far I've managed to pretty much set up everything how I want and I've rooted, over clocked, and flashed a custom rom onto it (Virtuous v1.0.2).
Coming over from Windows Mobile though, one gripe I am having is being able to rename the apps in the app draw. Since I only have about 6 apps on the homescreen, I'm aware it is possible to rename them using programs such as bettercut or super app manager, but unfortunately I've not yet found a way to rename the apps in the app draw. I like things to be neat and labelled nicely which not only look better, but makes it easier to find things.
Is this any way possible to do once you're rooted up? Ideally I don't want to turn off the Sense UI interface and switch to something else because I quite like the Sense widgets. It's baffling why this option of renaming applications is not possible/much simpler.
Thanks in advanced for any help
Not looking good is it.. Lol

Not sure if what you want is possible...
Sent from my T-Mobile G2
Of course its possible. Android is open source. Take the source for the launcher, make changes necessary to rename applications, compile, install.
Hint: Some other launchers that you may be able to download and install, even on a NON-ROOTED phone, may already have this ability.
Don't know if there is an easy way to do this in the stock Sense launcher.
Only way I know if you only want to do this to a few apps, and have the APK for those apps: There is an XDA user made app called APK Edit, which allows you to change the icon and name of the app. Just use this to edit the APK, then install the APK.

Restore some stock apps, Telus G2

Dunno if other carriers have the same bundled apps, but the Telus version came with a really nice alternate photo gallery app... of course, the first thing I did with my phone was root it, then used TiBkup to "Integrate updated system apps with ROM", because you know, that always worked great on my DesireHD. Well except in this case, it didn't work so well... most of the Google apps started crashing, as well as LG PC Suite and a couple others, and the gallery app disappeared entirely.
I got the Google stuff straightened out by uninstalling and reinstalling it, but since I can't remember the name of the gallery app for the life of me, I can't see if it's available to reinstall should I remove it.
Of course, there's no way to "undo" the integration process, and I thought it might work if I could do a "move to SD" and then "move to internal", except of course, there is no separate SD...
Anyway, I guess my question is, does anyone have a list of the bundled apps with this thing, and whether any of them are downloadable separately?
Thanks...

Installed apps not in the launcher?

I just got my M3 this weekend (from amazon), and it updated to android 7 and emui 5 as soon as I told it how to talk to wifi.
I've been gradually getting used to it (I've finally learned how to use the fingerprint sensor rather than looking for soft buttons), but there are scads of apps installed according to Settings>Apps which don't show up on any of the screens in emui.
How do I get the apps in the launcher so I can actually run them? (Or in many cases, delete them - I found I was able to delete facebook from the launcher even though the apps list in settings wouldn't let me).
One piece of new info: Maybe they weren't installed apps after all. Maybe they were bad info left over from the android 7 update. I went into the apps settings again and got the "shall I remove updates and revert to base version" message you always get for apps that are being forced on you, and this time I said "yes". But instead of now seeing the "base version" in the apps list, it was gone completely (which is what I wanted all along).
