HELP: No Bootloader after BigStorage Flash

hello guys, i'm really desperate now. my Magician is dead. i followed the laid out procedure 100% for upgrading to bigstorage. that's what i did:
- dump rom on to the sd card (512MB).
- got a external card reader (since the one in my laptop did not work with ntrw.exe)
- killed ActiveSync (wcesmgr)
- dumped the rom to my hard disk
- got Big_ROM_Ger_1.11.nb1 from ftp
- changed the first 416 bytes with ultraedit.
- wrote the resulting rom to the sd card with ntrw.exe.
- flashed (got the question in bootloader mode, pressed power).
- flash completed, got the 100% message and checksum failure.
- did a softreset
- my Magician is now DEAD !!!
Tried to put it in bootloader mode again, nothing! Put out the battery, unplugged and replugged usb cable, nothing!
PLEASE, any suggestions or help ??????
Please explain "nothing." Are you getting anything on the screen, blank screen, backlit, logo, text, anything?
Can you zip and upload your modified ROM dump file to dropload, rapidshare, or some other portal where someone can take a look?
Did you pull the battery completely, reinsert it, and pressed the reset+camera+power to get back into the bootloader?

the screen is absolutely blank. if i plug in the power cord not even the charging lamp is on.
i removed the battery completely for a few hours now, reinserted it just that moment and pressed reset + camera + power --> blank screen, no backlit, no logo, no text. i even used my torch to make sure i didn't miss the bootloader message. nothing.
when i press the reset + camera + power button the blue led blinks for a split second but then again nothing.
tried it with and without external power....
any clue????
rom i used

well, could be possible.... kinda teaches me not to mess around too much. i flashed my old xda II with magneto and all, never had any problems....
anyway, i will try to clear the backup battery over night and try it again tomorrow. if it still doesn't work, i'll get it back to the shop. it's brand new (2 weeks), so i guess (hope) it shouldn't be a problem.
No solution - but I had the same problem
Hello,
sounds that you have exactly the same problem I had. I also wanted to use bigstorage. First I updated to 1.06 official rom from T-mobile Germany. Then I used mksbigstorage to modify this rom. After installing this my mda was stuck at the splashscreen. But the bootloader still worked so I was able to restore my original rom.
Next I downloaded the 1.11 extended german rom from xda-developers ftp-server. I also replaced the first 416 bytes with the one from my rom. After installing this rom and doing a softreset my device was completely dead. No bootloader, no even a blinking light when connecting it with the power supply. I also tried to remove the battery for some time. But nothing worked. As I also had this device for just some days I finally did send it back and recieved a new one.
On this new one I also tried to modify rom 1.06 with mksbigstorage. But after that it was again stuck at the splash-screen. Mksbigstore seems not to work on this rom. Finally I was able to use bigstore by modifying two adresses in the original 1.06 rom downloaded from my device. This method is described in this forum. Worked without problems.
So I do not know what went wrong and I am sure I followed the instructions for flashing bigrom exactly, but as I am not the only one with this problem there is a risk flashing under certain circumstances.

I had the same problem flashed XDA 1 hundreds of times without problem. Flashed Magician device one time --> same problem as you have.
I've sent my device to repair center and they installed a new motherboard. So i don't believe that tehre is any fix to relive you're device..... :-(
Stefan
I don't see anything wrong with the ROM file except for the fact that it's slightly larger than my ROM (65281k vs. 65427k). May have been a bad write to the SD card. Was your card a 64MB SD card?

My card was a 512 MB SD Card, since it is the only one I have.
On Monday I'll send it to the service center

Thanks for your response, kinda reduces my pain and asures me that I'm not a complete idiot....
I'm now pretty sure that I have the same problem as you have and that sending it to the service center is my only option....
At least I can use my Himalya with Magneto a few more days
I guess I will not try this again since I don't want to risk killing it again, allthough I allready had problems with the storage size on the working device (tomtom).
One more question: Did anybody ever had problems on upgrading from a t-mobile rom to a vodafone rom? is it even worth upgrading to 1.12?
Thanks for your help guys!!!

help needed on restoring/reinstalling my tmobile mda compact

please help i have the t-mobile mda compact pm200 and i was removing a cracked version on pocket dos v1.09 from the remove list and it said windows wil need to perform a soft rest yes or cancel i clicked yes and my system restarted but now it just get stuck at the t-mobile screen. i have tried doing the manufatures hard reset but no joy i have take out the battery no joy and i can't even access it through my p.c what can i do to get it up and running again i don't care about the data already on there cuz it is all backed up on my sd cad
When you took out your battery, have you been waiting til the backup battery fully drained out? It takes about 30-60 minutes, better leave a few hours. Try this and post your results...
thank for trying but unfrtunatly it had no effect i tried for two hours then reinserrted it and no joy so i waited a further day but still nothing any other ideas tnx
Is it getting into BootLoader? Then you might try Flashing a new ROM!
how would i go about doing that? my computer won't even recognis3e my phone
I had about the same problem:
I was trying to install the Pocket PC Greek language support (free trial version) from the site http://greek.pocket-pc.penreader.co...der_Greek.html. on my MDA Vario Tmobile when it crashed!! It shows just a white screen and does nothing at all!! I soft and hard reseted the device but after restarting it shows the Tmobile screen and after a few seconds a white screen! Actually I am not so sure that the device is hard reseting because it doesn't ask me for a confirmation of the hard reset. When I startup my device it stops on the same white screen. No windows loading, no other commands accepting, not recognized by my desktop.
Did anybody have the same problem before? Does anybody know how can i get my PPC on working condition again
Thanks dagonist.
I hope somebody can help....
See for ROM upgrades on the forum  if u get some images on the mini then it's not dead! It's just stuck at the bootloader mode, meaning that the OS is somehow damaged.. To solve this prob u must plug the mini into the pc (it will be recognised as an unidentified device, don't worry), then download a ROM upgrade set (u will find these on the net or in the xda-dev ftp). Execute the prog, wait 'till it finished and voila! Ur device will come as new If u encounter problem do a simple search in the forum regards rom - bootloader - upgrade and u willl find a lot of infos
Hope this helps, MocciJ
Thanks MocciJ.....but my desktop pc doesnot "see" my pocket pc at all!!
:? then it isn't yet in bootloader, is just stuck at the beginning of a broken OS! I mean that it tries to load the OS, but then it gets stopped since he read bad ROM (probably deleted in some way since u encountered this prob removing a prog) try to get it in bootloader mode, by pressing together the camera, power and reset buttons.. U will lose all the things in the RAM memory, but in this case u really can't do anything else.. After entering in bootloader, u can easily upgrade it..
MocciJ
Well, I just tried the camera button+power button+reset button....and nothing happens! It reset and comes back to the same white screen...
Any other suggestions??
well, did u tried to make it correctly? I mean: for entering boot loader u havce to press camera + power, and then reset (with camera and power pressed) if u can't still enter the bootloader, then I'm out of ideas, sorry...
MocciJ
I amdoing it write but nothing happens....
In the screen what can u read? If u read serial (it is barely visible) then see if it turn to usb when u connect the cable: if yes, we 're at a very good point...
When it starts up it shows the Tmobile logo and then for a few seconds :
ipl 1.08
spl 1.08
gsm 01.09.10
(something else...)
after a few seconds a white screen without any letters or anything else.
But I cannot see it anywhere on my desktop pc...
:? I can't figure out how you can get it back.. If it displays images and text, then the bootloader is still alive.. It even tells u the correct version of the complete ROM.. but I wonder why it can't access to the bootloader.. u must search in the forum how to reach the bootloader, but I'm sure of the power camera reset combination; when u can read SERIAL or even better USB on the device, u probably have solved most of ur problems, but chances are that u have even bad clusters of ROM, and cannot be restored with an upgrade (it happened to the External Rom of my mini after a bad upgrade)
I suggest to send it to repairs, before doing somewhat wrong, because if there is an original ROM inside they will repair it for sure, free
MocciJ
Thanks. The problem is that I got the phone from ebay, from a UK seller, and it was locked to Tmobile. So I don't think that I can ask for a factory/guaranty repair....

seee i tried all of thoose things but i found the main problem was getting the computer to recoginise the thing and the program i put on was a cracked version ( i know i am a naughty boy) so if i send it off they could cause legal problems couldn't it
it depends on what u are meaning by "not recognised" but I assume that windows dosesn't even try to recognise the device (I mean that there aren't bubbles, notifications, or any other changes on the system) for the cracked software, well if u have installed it right into any RAM folder (not in the storage memory) then u can tell the repairing center that ur unit simply doesn't power on correctly..

[Q]ELF(in) Completely Dead!!!

Hi Guys,
My elf(in) switched off by itself while flashing from memory card.. it will say 'Formatting bnfds(something i dont remember)' at that time i guess battery power went down for some reason i dont know,(i am sure the battery was atleast 70% while flashing) and the device switched off while it was formatting that partition and i guess SPL is totally screwed ... it wont even turn ON!!.. no lights nothing.. tried virtually everything... there are many methods but most of em only work if you can get the device to bootlaoder.. mine wont even power ON... so any ideas??... i fount that JTAG pins can help.. but for that you need pin layout and stuffs.. is there any other way..or is some1 who is familiar with JTAG can help me out??..
hey buddy ...u screwed Ur MOBeee.. well basic method try charging the battery somehow and then use port sniffers and then u may able to revive it .. as i did way back ..its little bit tricky ..i will suggest check forum somewhere this port method is there..
sorry about ur dead elf.
When you recovered last time.. did your device switch on or atleast did that orange light while charging came??... if for you also the lights did not come i might try the port sniffers..
I'm interested on that too.

EDIT: DON'T UPDATE TO 2.1 AGAIN SINCE IT WILL HANG ONE MORE TIME. WAIT FOR HTC TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE!!!!!!
EDIT 2: BACK UPP ALL YOUR DATA FROM YOUR MEMORY CARD FIRST!!!
EDIT 3: How did I find this out? I talked to a very helpful HTC suport rep (yes they do actually exist in Sweden). He helped me do these steps and so I thought I should share this.
Ok so you got a message that 2.1 was available for your Hero - FINELY! and you installed it using OTA. And then you got a triangle with a ! in it and you rebooted and all it says is "HERO".
This is how to solve it!
Take out your memory card. FORMAT TO FAT32!!!
Download the RUU 2.73.405.5 from HTC support homepage
Run the installation.
When it fails to find your phone DON'T EXIT!!!
If you are using Windows 7 go in to c:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Temp
Search for ROM.zip
Move to desktop
Rename to HEROIMG.zip
Transfer to your newly formated memory card now with FAT32 file system
Put memory card into phone
Start phone holding volume down pressed.
It will now check zip fil and then ask if you want to install.
homekey for YES
After installing you have 1.5 again and can safely upgrade to 2.1 OTA
