I am just wondering if anyone has tried the gamepad mapper on 4.3? That is about the only thing that I really like about 4.4, so I was just wondering if anyone has installed it on 4.3 to see if it would work? I extracted the apk from my tablet, but don't want to go through the work of downgrading to find out it doesn't work. Hoping someone could give it a try if they are on 4.3.
Thanks
Brew
I could give it a try. Need to get a controller to find out first. But I'll install it to see if it runs at all.
EDIT: your link failed to download from the tablet. Could be the brackets blocking it.
Edit 2: Downloaded via laptop and sideloaded on the tablet. There's no change from the 4.3 game mapper that I can see. Must be a 4.4 thing. I installed it twice to double check.

Ok, dumb question. I though the gamepad mapper was added in 4.4, and wasn't in 4.3? I thought that was one of the new things they added with the sd card killing update? I really appreciate the time you spent for me too.
Brew
There's more to it than just gamepad mapper apk I think. Don't forget under 4.4 there are new menu options under 'controller' in settings which allows you to choose whether or not to allow the gamepad mapper to be activated. Someone with more kmowledge than me will be able to explain what else you would need in order to get it working under 4.3. It's a great idea though
For what it's worth I'd be happy to roll right the way back to 4.2 (.2) if I could still have the full screen toggle. At least under 4.2 you could safely unmount an external hard drive without it also unmounting the microsd card (which was broken under 4.3, then fixed on 4.4.2, but rendered fairly useless because you don't have RW privileges under 4.4.2 without root and a hack). Sigh... I quite liked the transparent notification bar under 4.4.2 as well, but I want full SD RW... Sorry, i digress.

Not a dumb question, and you're right, the gamepad mapper was not present in 4.3.

Thanks, it is all way over my head too, I was hoping it was as simple as the apk. My tablet worked very well on 4.3, and has a ton of random weird things going on with 4.4 so I was just hoping I guess. Maybe someone smarter than us can give us some help or push us in the right direction. I bought the moga pro power controller and it works great with the tablet and mapper on 4.4, but I would like to go back to 4.3 to solve a few issues.

Yep, I rolled back to 4.3 and I don't regret it. I'm thinking about going back to 4.2.2 because I use an external hard drive a lot and the unmounting problem with 4.3 is very annoying. Also, under 4.2.2 I could 'zoom' in on a film whilst connected to a TV via HDMI to get rid of the black bars on the left and right of the TV screen. The downside is I would miss the full screen option of 4.3. Decisions decisions....
I hear you. I rolled back to 4.3 after that train wreck of an update broke things in a way I just couldn't stand it. Like the above poster said, I'm not regretting the rollback. By the same token, it would have been nice if we had gotten prior warning about the sdcard fiasco so we could refuse to update and not get so worked up about losing our warranty.
Something tells me that a lib file might be missing that would unlock the game mapper options that 4.4 has in 4.3. Then again, it could be an api issue.

Hello all, I am new here so I'm sorry if I am ignorent of anything
I have an Iconia tab, and have been patiently for the netflix app to be released. Well it finally seems like it has been done here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076150
My problem is when I download the apk and try to open it I get the error ''cannot open file''.
Any suggestions? Thanks
Download the apk with Firefox mobile or your desktop PC instead of the default browser. AFAIK, streaming still doesn't work for us, just queue management.
Its not working on the acer yet.
Edit: ninja'd
I think I read somewhere it's a Honeycomb issue, not just an Acer issue.
the device check disabled apk asks you to upgrade to the latest version on the market (which doesn't exist on our device), and the non-check disabled version will let you browse, but if you try to play a video it pops an error saying the device is not supported.
Hopefully we'll get something that works in the near future. Netflix claims to be working on other devices and it looked like tablets were on the list as well.
Thanks everyone for your answers. Any chance we can keep this thread going as an update to everyone wondering when netflix will be brought over so users do not have to scour the web in search of the answer?
Just a bit of a noob question, but what about changing your build.prop?
If I understand correctly, that requires root, and I do not want do downgrade to gingerbread.
Yup..

I have heard of doing this and am pretty sure root is required.
Such a shame Netflix has not gotten it together for us yet - this screen rocks as a movie player!

I have my acer rooted, but not well enough it seems. I still run honeycomb, and in fact still get firmware updates from acer. I rooted it so I can setup my two 1tb external hard drives to it lol. just used gingerbreak and a couple other things post root. However, i did try and edit the build.prop but wont allow me to save, just read only. I havent messed with it extensively, but seems like there should be a way.

If you use root explorer it will let you mount the file system read-write so you can edit the file.
Alright guys I am not sure if it has been tested but when I get home. I have the lib files that fixed the playback issue on sense 3.0 I will install the deactive device check version and push the lib Files It may actually work!! I just tested on another device that had playback issues worked flawlessly!! Ill let you guys know in like 2 hours or so when I get home.
Right on!

Alright guys so after dismantling netflix.apk the latest version the issue is within one of the files called nrdp.js Think of it as the gate keeper to our netflix enjoyment. It checks certain areas of the device here is the list we need to bypass to get the rsa key injected into our devices for access to the netflix servers.
1.Get Model
2.Get Software Version
3.Get Certification Version
4.Get ESN
5.Get ESN Prefix
Those are all the functions it calls for device checking. That I could find. There is also a certificate file ca.pem that controls how long the app works for before you have to get new certificate that is encrypted up the ass so big roadblock..... Sorry I tried and will continue to try but it does not look good... Damn those large companies with their big sticks.

I have an stock iconia with 3.1 and tonight I installed the apk mentioned in this article:

App runs but when I select a vid I get:
"Sorry, we could not reach the Netflix service. Please try again later. If the problems persists please visit the Netflix website (12001)."
Anyone else getting this? Any workarounds?

Same issue.
I wonder if a build prop for 1.3 would work?
Xoom users seem to be having great sucess
It seems like a lot of the apps that i try don't function properly on the Nexus 10. The ones that don't work that bother me most are the TiVo, Netflix, NFL Mobile, and Draw Something. I have tried a couple roms(ASOP by Craig, and Modaco), and the apps didn't work with either. Is there any mods or tricks to get these apps to work? It's enough of an issue that I will probably be selling my nexus 10 in the very near future if this isn't rectified. I just feel that a "Google Nexus" device should be the most compatible android device on the market, and not the one with the most issues.
Draw something works on a stock n10. Rooting seems to break it. Probably something to do with the way rooting works with the new multi user stuff in android 4.2. Most of the apps that I use that have had problems on the n10 have been receiving updates recently to add proper android 4.2 support.

interesting.. I wonder if Draw Something will work if I set up another user account and use it on that? If it works it'd be worth the trouble. Because, root doesn't work [SuperSU] on anything but the main user. I hope it works because I was looking forward to using a tablet for Draw Something again.. just to find it wouldn't work.
Edit: didn't work!

This is pretty cool, thought I'd start a list of games that work great with Tincore Keymapper. It seems you have to have root to get it to work.
So far I've got these games mapped and work great:
Wild Blood
Samurai II: Vengeance THD
GT Racing 2
Great app, adds lots more games to play on the MOJO :good:

I don't see why rooting is required
maybe @tincore knows?
Root is required, because otherwise you can't map touch input buttons to hardware gamepad buttons.
Since not all developers take care of external gamepad support, sometimes, it is necessary to remap touch activity to a hardware key.

Yea, definitely have to root to get the app to work. App is actually very easy to use to create different profiles for different apps. Pretty much any game that has on screen controls can be mapped - as long as you can get through the menus in mouse mode.

Rooting is needed to simulate touches and more. Those are Android limitations.
Another option would be a custom modified firmware.

Yep.
I've been able to get my PS3 controller to pair through Sixaxis which was pretty cool. I'd forgotten how light the PS3 control is after using the CTRLR for so long.
Anyhow, I followed a few of the videos on YouTube to get myself started. I cannot get the CTRLR to show up as a detected device. Strangely, I was able to set my button combination to get tincore running within the app (so the button presses registered then), but the combination doesn't bring up tincore when I'm in a game. I really like how your app works (from the videos), so I'd appreciate any info or insight on getting it up on the MOJO!
Seriously, though, your app looks pretty awesome. Once I get it working, I'll throw down some cash and buy it.

I haven't had any issues really with tincore. Whenever I started the app, the CTRLR was already loaded in the column - as well as any other devices such as a mouse. All I had to do was put the controller in gamesmart mode to get my buttons out there on screen, then switch back to mouse mode and place each button/control where I wanted them and then went to the column and chose how I wanted the button presses to react. Although, I could never get the app to work within a game. I didn't know how to do that. I would always just load the game, then go back to the homescreen and then back to tincore to make my adjustments.

In the case of devices without touchscreen you can use a key sequence to invoke the mapper on top of the app. Default sequence is Vol- Vol+ Vol- and it should work from the CTRLR.

Hey again guys. I've been doing further research and I'm positive the console I want to buy next is a Mojo.
I plan to root it as soon as I get it, so the important question is: how do I make it so the navbar doesn't show up? Apparently its always present by default, making all apps even XBMC not actually fullscreen.
Hopefully someone can tell me that. Thanks!

Cool, ha.. to your questions.
I think there's app on the app store which remove the navbar in jellybean.. not 100%
I would think CM12 would have that as an option.. again not sure sorry.
MX player does hide it but games don't.. that I recall anyway.
:good:
I wonder if there's just a script that you can edit to fix this. I just want the damn thing to not take up screen space when it's not a touch screen device to begin with.

Try Auto Hide Soft Keys APP which worked fine for me on rooted jellybean. Kodi/XBMC on the Lollipop (CM12) ROM works without this app because of immersive mode which hides the navbar, so I would suggest when you get your MOJO to switch to that ROM.
I know this is probably a crazy noobish question, but is there any way to download game apks from the google play store directly to my imac? I'm pretty new to google play, and it keeps saying to sign in on the device. but thats just the thing, I don't have a mojo yet. I'm still trying to figure out if I will get one.
So what the heck? Can't I just download to my computer and then "sideload" later?

I'm not sure why you would need to sideload apks to the MOJO since it will be fully functional with google play after using the rooting method for jellybean. On CM12, missing apps can apparently be fooled into appearing in google play by changing the device to something else like an nvidia shield tablet using Market helper http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2146216
But there is a way to download apks to the computer if you must: try this

I'm newish to android but I think you still need to use the navbar regardless of lack of touch...
At least with jellybean, cm12 feels better integrated to android but still need to get to the all apps menu button.
I think the issue is jellybean didn't let apps remove easily, were as cm12 does.
I know this is probably a very simple question but I have not seen it addressed yet. What's the best way to root the Essential phone? Is there a working TWRP available yet? Anyone have a guide? thanks :good:
There is no public development currently happening.
It seems very quiet in here as far as root goes. I hope some devs are buying this phone.
in another thread there is a link to magisk and rooting w/o a custom recovery, no one has tried to see if it works on our device.
As soon as FedEx gets over this long weekend and gets me my phone, I'll do the Magisk root and post about it here.
Until then, I'm just stuck twiddling my thumbs and doing other stuff.
I wonder if any custom development will become available for this phone. Yeah, we can unlock the bootloader (pretty useless without a custom recovery) and possibly have root via Magisk (which is fine on the stock ROM), but I have a feeling devs may be staying away from the Essential. Whether it's due to the somewhat negative reviews and new Pixels coming out soon.

in order to root w/ magisk via fastboot, we need the stock.img which isnt available.
It is my humble projection that the Essential will soon become one of the leaders in the ROM/development world.
Relax man... I've seen development for far less popular phones that were far more locked down... Most people that ordered don't even have their phones yet though... give it another week or two to pick up. I paid for my order about 2 weeks ago and it's not getting delivered till Tuesday or Wednesday and there are many others who don't even have tracking info yet.
You guys are probably right. Right now I don't even need root. There is no crap Ola I need to freeze with tibu.. I will still root as soon as it comes. This is the first time I bought a phone that did not come from a carrier.. Jeez what a difference

I want root simply so that I can add LMT pie controls, hide the nav bar and run adaway. Other than that, there's very little I need root for these days.
im looking to root for adaway and volume skip track. other then that i really have no other need to root. TB for apps would be nice as well.

Try Unique Controls (play store) for pie. Nav bar can be partially hidden with an adb code to enable immersive mode, however this seems to cause layout issues because of the odd status bar implementation. Unfortunately this affects LMT, hence my going with a different app for now. I have a Tasker profile going with AutoTools to turn off immersive mode in apps I know don't work, and I'm getting my full screen pie goodness in about 80% of apps.

The main reason that I use LMT or pie controls in general is so that I have a menu button.. mainly so that in chrome I don't have to reach all the way to the opposite corner to open the menu (since I hold the phone in my left hand 99% of the time). The menu button will not work properly on LMT if you do not have SEL set to permissive. I'm not 100% sure exactly what SEL does but I think its like the SELinux security policy for the kernel or rom. Not a dev, my knowledge is limited..lol I just know it needs to be set to permissive for stuff like that to work properly.
The only reason I want root is for themes but if I could just get my hands on a stock vendor image I could just manually install a Substrantum theme.

For ad blocking look up AdClear.
It's an on device VPN that blocks ads. No root required.
V4A or ARISE is a must for me. Especially when coming from the U11's excellent audio performance.
