[Q] [L7] Extending Phone memory gone wrong. - Optimus L3, L5, L7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried to extend my phone memory with CW (using SDCard).
After the procedure choosing the 2056MB, (and making a backup before this) 5GB dissapeared of my SDCard and only added 1GB added to my phone memory. Because I had 5GB occupying, I cannot put it back. So I want to recover that memory. Any idea how?
Thank you.

[Q] Question about phone backup

Hi, i am very new here and ilack some of the basic info. so i have couples of questions. thanks very much for your answers.
1. what is the internal memory of the htc hd2? and when you partition your sd to fat32 and ext3, will the internal memory be the sum of the ext3 and the phone internal storage?
2. when you want to flash your hd2 with a new rom. do you need to format both partitions of your sd card (fat32 and ext3)
3. when i tried the latest ultimate droid rom, i saw the author posted the rom and another thing called the layout (3.0.2.4_magldr_150M_partitionLayout_30M_cache). what does this do?
4. how do you make the phone to move or install apps in the ext3. and how do you back up those data and apps in the ext3?
and again, thanks guys for helping me out.
1 internal memory, do you mean what's available after a flash? 260 Meg or so with the small cm7 roms (typhoon for example)
No, the internal memory wont show the sum of internal plus ext BUT it will work as if it is. Say you install a 20meg program, internal mem goes down 20 but back up 20 after a restart.
2 no, when you perform the wipes through cwm it takes care of the ext partition and the .android folder on the fat32 for you.
Some apps may put data on the fat32, in which case you can delete those if you want or if you have isues.
3 the layout (clockworkmod, or cwm) sets up the various partitions on your nand (internal) memory, boot, system, cache, data. Without the layout there would be nowhere for the rom to flash into.
The main point of interest in cwm is the system partition size, big roms need big system partitions, sense roms for ex. need 250meg or more, typhoon needs 130. Flash a big rom to small layout fails, small rom on big layout wasted space.
4 you don't, if the rom says ap2sd enabled or words to that effect, it does it automatically. You can test this by loading up some apps then browsing the SD card on a Linux PC
When you run backups and such, it just does it, the phone has no idea that some of the info is on the SD, it treats it as internal.

i dont understand why is that? so if the rom is apps2sd supported, it will automatically install apps to ext3. then it makes sense to me that the mem goes down, but then why it goes back up???
Example, 250meg internal plus 1gig ext partition.
internal memory shows as 250meg,, install 20 Meg app which goes to ext partition BUT the system displays internal mem as 230, , you reboot the phone and check again and internal memory shows as 250 again.
oh, thanks alot, i get it. but which backup solution is the best? and how does backup using clockworldmod work? does it make a backup file to sd card?

Hi,
It depends what you want to back up.CWM backup will take a snapshot of your entire ROM system, data, settings, everything.A bit like a ghost image of a drive on your PC.
This way, if you install a new ROM and there is a problem,or you don't like it,you can RESTORE your original ROM and everything is back the way it was before.
CWM backup saves to the sd card.
If you just want to backup data, use something like Titanium Backup.

Custom you data partition's size

Data storage space is always a problem for Android, which is why there are a lot of app2ext and data2ext solutions. There is app2sd function build-in in Froyo (there are a lot of problems), but those methods are not as good as expanding the data storage space directly.
Instructions:
1. Backup your Internal 2G Storage, doing this will erase the internal 2G data.
2. Download the attached partition.zip to EXTERNAL SDcard, make sure there are enough space in EXTERNAL SDcard (depends on your data partition size, around 600MB is enough).
3. Disable APP2SD, DATA2EXT, SWAP.(if have)
4. Boot into recovery, do not clear/wipe, flash this package directly, same as flashing a ROM.
5. After flashing go to advanced options, choose to reboot to recovery.
6. Go into recovery again, do not clear/wipe, flash this package again directly, same as flashing a ROM.
7. Reboot device. Done. All data will be kept, no data lose, all remains the same as before, but the storage space has been changed.
Characteristics:
1. Data storage space expanded to 1.2G, internal storage space squeezed to 1.46G (you can use custpartition.bat custom your size).
2. Data storage space is expanded permanently, no matter what ROM you are going to flash, including official ROM!
3. No side-effects, very safe.
How It Works:
Changed the Huawei internal 4G ROM partition solution, squeezed 2G space to 1.46G, leftovers are given to data storage.
This is cooperation work with 凡人 from 5irom, thanks for his bravery to test it out, otherwise I will not take this step ahead, you know it is money, bricking is scaring!
thanks simplistian provide me a U8800H partition table, and translate!
This is not a ROM, this is an upgrade package, you can treat it as a simple partition solution.
1.2G DATA + 1.46G INTERNAL SD upgrade package:
http://www.mediafire.com/?dyz4uqz5a30cypy
return-to-stock partition solution upgrade package:
http://www.mediafire.com/?x72e6p4hvo3adhj
Custom Partition tool:
useage:
1. download this tool and unzip to any directory 2. run custpartition.bat, follow the prompts to enter the number 3. and custpartition.bat positions will generate the partition file 4. replace the same file in the package 5. flash the zip pack, OK!
http://www.mediafire.com/?m1nqg1y4gp5szp5
To Those Who Upgraded to V6 Before: you can reflash same ROM,replace recovery, then install this upgrade package.
So if i understand correctly apps will now install on internal disk?

So will this change the 2GB internal as the mobile memory? so all apps will be installed in there instead of the system?
Will this effect the external SD?

It was already answere by developer himself it does work as "mobile "memory , so apps will be installed there
Anyone know if the performance difference between the two will make a difference? (I'm assuming the 2GB may be a little slower, but probably not noticeable).
It will be the same speed. It is the same physical chip inside the phone. Think of this as repartitioning your hard drive. It just moves the unused space of HWUserData to data.

internal space=internal sd card
sure,but first replace the zip‘s 3.2.0.0 recovery
AMAZING!
Not even a backup was needed (my 2gb was empty)
THANK U FOR THE GREAT WORK
You should include it in every ROM you create!

After you apply this update there will be no 'Internal SD Card' since it is converted to data storage (for apps and OS files). If you haven't applied this update the internal SD card will appear in my computer when you plug in the device and mount storage.

[Q] Apps disappear after boot! A2SD

Hello, im an owner of a EU Leo, and I just installed some roms that have sense included in them on NAND, so I need A2SD...
Everything was smooth an i moved all apps that can be moved to SD and rebooted for the first time.. Then BAM! You wait for a little and only 24 apps recover out of 60, all the other apps are GONE! can anyone please help me to avoid this?
This is the ROM I'm currently using: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954369 (however, its not the first rom that made this happen)
Thank you!
P.S The apps arent completely gone, if you go to application you can see they are on sd but they have a long name small memory taken and an Micro SD card icon instead of their icon..
Why are you moving them??
That rom aswell as majority of others use a partition on your sd card and automatically move the apps or data there for you. You have absolutely no need to move them at all.
Just partition your sdcard with CWM, 1GB and then 0MB swap.
Hmmm, I move them to get more space shouldnt I? I partitioned it with 1GB ext3 primary and thats all I did, then i revcovered with titanium backup and installed App2SD from he market to give me a notification for every app installed on internal memory to move it to sd, and I move them! Plz correct my actions!
will any1 plz reply?

They should automatically be moving to sd-ext. They will likley be showing as internal as teh sd-ext will be reporting as internal memory. When you move them you are probably breaking them.
Start over, Install some apps then reboot device and check your internal or sd-ext storage space via Titanium and see what it says.

[Q] storge plroblem in cm10

Good night to all, well last night i install lates cm10 nightly (20130414) every thing good exept the storge problem but i found a way to use the 5 gb as storge i only use it for internet and games but when i want to download something it asks me for an sd card so i put in my 2gb sd card only for download and then i will transfer to the 5gb partition, but here comes the real problem:
When i insert my sd evertying is going well but after few moments my os put in the sd junk files that goes up to 5gb of space each, and my settings say i have in apps 42.70 gb of storge and 1.8gb free storge kind of wierd after that i cant write in it or copy from it and it becomes useless i dont know if i upgrade it wrong or if any parttition has some kind of virus(because the junk files looks like virus) in clockmod recovery i saw it has these options: formmat System, data, cache, sdcard, sd ext, wipe battery status and what most took my atention was wipe Dalvick cache does this has to do something please help me resolve this problem i know many are having this isisue too

The reason I did not respond to this post is I don't understand what you are asking.
It is normal for the system to add a lot of folders to a new SD the first time it is inserted. But they are just empty folders and take no real space. How can there be 5GB files when you only installed a 2GB SD?
And the storage info in CM10 settings is misleading. The names for things are not consistent. The first internal storage is really /data and has nothing to do with your SD space or media space. And there cannot be 47GB of stuff there as /data is only 1GB in size. And the second internal storage is your 5GB internal media space.
And those wipe options in CWM do you no good. The only thing that might help is wipe dalvik when you flash a new ROM.
You do not have a virus, you just have things confused. Explain again what you want.

You just need to describe better what you are seeing. I don't think flashing a bunch of my zips are warranted until we know what is wrong.
Describe in words what the screens say. When you go to CM10 settings, and bring up storage, describe what you see completely.
When you look at your external sdcard with your file manager, what does it tell you?
I am just in the dark here by your current descriptions.
I guess you could upload pictures to mediafire and PM me the links.
If all of the issues you are seeing are with the SD, then try formatting it with SDFormatter that you can get free on the web. See, I don't even know what you are having issues with.

Well, two things are obvious from those pictures. First, your SD is horribly corrupted. You need to do a full format of the SD in your PC with SDFormatter to fix it.
Second, you have one of the newer Nook Colors and your /data partition is 5GB. That 5GB cannot be used for storing media files. Your internal media file space (emmc) is only 1GB (your picture cuts that part of the screen off).
If you want to have that 5GB /data partition reduced to 1GB so your internal media partition becomes 5GB, then go ahead and flash my 145678 repair zip followed by a reboot and flashing the 5678 format zip. All of your data including saved files, will be lost. Then reinstall CM10.
But flashing those zips will not fix your external SD. You must reformat it with SDFormatter. And it may just be a bad SD where data gets corrupted when it writes. What brand and class is it?

Sorry in advance if it's a big no no to reply in a late thread, but I seem to have the same problem..
I'm running the 20130621 nightly of 10.1 although it did this on the RC5) on my nook color and it seems that it's corrupting my SD card on it's own.
I've tested it out on my 8GB and 1GB SD cards and everything seems to work just fine, until I actually save something or if an app like Apollo tries to cache something to the SD card (album art always shows up half way, like the album art got torn in half) after it saves (sometimes successfully, kinda hit and miss) it will not let me write to it anymore, and I have to pull it out to run chkdsk just for it to do the same thing over (I've done a reformat too from both my computer and the nook itself and that gives the equivalent results of chkdsk, minus the retention of data)
when it goes through it's no write thing, the storage tab says that there's much more data on the card than there is capacity (for example 13GB data written on 8GB card)
What's odd is say, an app caches something it'll say that the app storage is 8GB+ over the capacity or if I save a screenshot it'll say that photos are over capacity.
I also cannot write to the 1GB partition, nor format it if that's not supposed to happen
I also didn't seem to have this problem with my brief use of CM7(.2 I think)

[Q] System memory

System memory is almost full and I only have about 1gb left of internal storage. I save almost everything on my external card. Can any one help me out?

Looks like you're running Safestrap. You cannot access the entire 32GB if you're on a ROM slot. You can max out the system and data partitions but I think they are limited to 4GB.

you can restore your custom rom on the stock partition. That way you have access to all 32 gigabytes of memory. Make sure you do a backup of your stock rom before you do anything
