Good evening... Well recently, i bought a Screen Protector from ShieldZone for my hermes. Well I applied it to the screen and so forth to the rest of my device, then i realized the touch screen doesnt work. I take out the battery for a few minutes, and it starts to work, but after a few seconds, it stops working again. Any suggestions?
This happened when i put my first screen protector on too.. What happened is you put the sticker on to tight; there is an equal pressure over the entire screen , so the processor cannot distinguish your pen touch from the rest of the matrix. All you have to do is take the protector off and reapply it with less force and it should work. (It took a few tries on mine to get it right, did the same thing on my wife's Treo 750.)
well, sounds strange, did you align the screen properly??
Im using a not so costly screen-protector on my hermes without a problem.
Probably u may remove the shieldscreen and make sure dat its not a hardware issue, good luck
yeah i took off the screen protector and still i have the same problem. Anyway i can change the pressure settings?
well,Im not sure about pressure settings but you may try re-aligning the screen (in settings) ,it shud help mostly, hope u have warranty which is not void...
I had the phone unlocked, and I put in the latest Cingular OS, even though i am on the TMOBILE Service.
I have the wierdest thing happen this morning!!! I woke up and turned on my phone, and there is a little smudge in the center of it. Almost like there was a air pocket between the protector and the screen, so i took the protector off, and it was still there!!!!!!!!!!!! So, i pressed down on the little spot and it moves around just like an air bubble would. I turned on my phone to see fi there would be any problems and for some ODD reason, everytime i tap the screen it smushes in that spot. It looks like when you press on the lcd screen of your computer and the pixles kinda move around a little!
Was wondering, I have a Cingular 8525 and would this warrant a repair? Meaning, Could I call them up and tell them what happned and they would send me a replacement?
This is really getting frustrating... I had this phone for only 8 days and its already giving me a headache.
my first for ages.
I recently purchased a wizard which looks to be virtually brand new.
now the other day I updated it the the o2 uk latest rom as it was running a really old rom.
and it has been running perfectly, i have not looked into running any other rom or performance upgrades etc.
now I was using the device in landscape and after closing the unit my screen went bright white and my pride and joy is now not usable.
I can still acept calls, the touch screen still works but the screen is pure white.
Ive contact a few places and they all say the screen has died and needs replacing
Does this sound right.
its a £80 fix if this is right. im so gutted.
any advice is great before i pack it up and send it off.
anyone please....
Can you put it into bootloader mode? If not i would say you have a loose connection on the screen to the mainboard i had the same problem with my old phone the screen disconnected for the main board so no display! If you cant get it replaced take it apart and carefully check the connections if still doesnt work i would try another screen or buy one.
even when i reset it, it stays whits so cant see anyhting on screen,
ive had someone take it apart and re-seat the cables and still just a white screen
so im off to purchase another one in hope this is all thats gone
as your phone is booting up press and hold the camera button, is the screen still white?
cant tell now. ive sent if off for repair.
Im gutted.

I had a similar issue, the keyboard sliding in and out must have worn out the switch that detects when it is open/closed. I had had my wizard a year and the screen started flickering, i dealt with it for a while, then the scree was stuck blank white unless if i pressed on the area of the phone that had the contact.
I had to send it back and got a refurb.
sounds like thats what happened to you too. Hopefully when you get it back it will be good as new
ive sent mine for a screen replacement tho not a repair.
now im worrying that its gonna come back in the same state.
Gulp
got my wizard back after having the screen replaced.
2 days later when ever i touch the bottom of the screen with pen, finger or even breath on it.
the screen goes off and the phone locks up and dies.
I have to take battery out and restart it and it then works great till i touch the bottom again.
Sound like a dodgy screen or something else.
Seems like a flexi strip(The one conecying the display to the mother board) sometimes if the strip develops a tear or is not properly connected this issue usually happens.
the shop doing the repair have said there is the following issues
1- padding issue on the screen (either too much or not enough)
2- Problems with the main board. (something on there is failling, hardware wise)
How the hell could this be happening on a device that was working perfectly
apart from the screen had died.
have they done more damage attempting the repair... I think so .!
I had the white screen 6 months ago. Luckily still under warranty period so got it repaired. It was the flexo-cable. since the fix no problem so far despites using the phone (also in landscape mode) daily.
when i got it back after the screen was replaced my xda worked great but as stated as soon as some preasure was applied to the bottom of the screen it would just die there and then.
I would have to take the battery out and then it would power on as normal
but again if i put presure on the bottom of the screen.. bang DEAD !
so sent it back to them and they told me what I stated above !
now waiting 2wks to hear what they are gonna do about it
not a happy bunny
still nothing back from the company thats doing the repair.
i dont know why they do this.
Im now thinking of getting my Xda back, selling it either on here or ebay and purchasing a new one.
Should i quit now or wait out for the miracle that they fix it completly.
Anyone in the uk reconmend a good repair company please im pulling my hair out.

I have a serious problem. I noticed a bug in the Desire alphas where sometimes when the backlight went off during a call it would not come back on when the i took the phone away from my face. It always came back on eventually.
Ok now yesterday I flash alpha 8 and it worked fine. Now all of a sudden I reboot my phone bc the battery dies and the backlight won't come on at all! I know the phone is on because the haptic feedback and cap buttons are on and if I leave it on I can tell it's getting notifications.
How am I supposed to fix this?! I can't even see anything to get into recovery! My phone is unusable.
Find out every step to do a backup in recovery... see if that works

Load into bootloader
Press power button once and wait about 20 seconds
press volume down once then hit power button once
Wait about a minute and move the trackball down slowly 3 time and press it
Scroll it down once and press it four times

Unless your screen is broken you can always boot into recovery.
Take out the battery, then put it back in.
Hold the trackball down as you power on, this will boot you into fast boot.
Select bootloader, then select recovery. and bam your in recovery and can reflash.
I can get my phone into recovery. When I adb in i can push the phone into recovery, then when i hit adb devices it shows my phone and says recovery.
the problem is the backlight is not on even when i am in recovery. i would say the screen broke, but it seemed like a software problem, because it was just slow to come back on. It still always came back on. then I left it in my car chargine and it never came on again. The phone seems to be working fine though.
Kind of off topic, but did your call screen do this before flashing to Desire at all? Did you recently install a screen protector? I had problems with the PhantomSkinz screen protector making the proximity sensor less sensitive and behaved exactly how you're describing...as soon as I took it off it started working again. I'm now using a dcmugen88 screen protector and it works great.
interesting. i have one of those bodyglove or whatever protectors. best buy glued it onto my lcd. i suppose it could have started around that time. but would the proximity sensor still be deactivating the lcd even when its booting up or in recovery?
Oh, I must have overlooked that. The screen protector wouldn't cause any issues on startup or in recovery... guess it must be the rom then.
well, figured it out.
warning to n1 users: watch that lcd screen under the glass. its not nearly as sturdy as the glass cover.
the lcd/digitizer screen under my glass got cracked and stopped working. no drop, no warning, no funny colors. htc does not cover this in the warranty no matter how good the actual phones condition is.
i almost didnt get another n1, a phone thats inherantly weak (i found dozens of similar reports over the web) is not exactly a good case for a system with no insurance, no store to walk into, and very unhelpful support. they try to be very nice, but the rep i talked to couldnt even tell me whats covered and not. he just said let us charge 500 bucks to your card and we will ship a replacement, then decide if we think you have to buy it once we get your old phone. i demanded to talk to someone who did know. his manager denied hearing about lcd screen problems... after the original rep said he and htc knew this was a common problem. google didnt even return my email when i first contacted them saying my backlight was broken.
so again, be careful and get a good case.

ive got 5 bux that says the power connector to your lcd came lose so now the screen just doesnt turn on ... i have heard this issue before... send it in and get it fixed if its going to cost you then tell them to **** off and send their phone they just sent you back
Whatever rom you are running ask the developer of rom in his thread. That's where you will get the best information and help.
So i dropped the phone in water. Took it out and dried it and after couple of mins i turned it back on. Goes after the S animation and black screen. Turn off and turn on again, now it wont go after main screen. After i used hair dryer for few minutes.
It was only in water for <2 seconds.
It constantly is restarting the phone and won't go past the i9000 screen. Am i screwed? Anything i can do to get warranty or no?
Ny friend put his phone in uncoocked rice for a while and that helped his phone, otherwise when did you get the phone? What carrier?
sent from my rooted captivate
I won it off a contest bell had. Have all papers. Got it in september and got warranty left. Never modded, except unlocked but i believe i can put lock back on
also as soon as i put battery, it turns on. in the event of repair, what do i say to samsung?
1. You shouldn't have turned on the device until you're sure that it's dry internally
2. Moisture indicators are likely to indicate that your device has been in contact with water. Samsung may deny the warranty or give some courtesy by closing an eye. Depends on your luck.
3. You may attempt to continue drying it and prays that it functions again
4. Perhaps try entering bootloader/download mode and reflash?
I dissemble it completely. Now one thing i need to fix is the side grill (silver strip) can't seem to put it back on..
ok sweet, it was able to boot further. I will be putting it back inside rice but any help with the side strip?
Also that big black thing is kind of lose (top right). Supposed to be like that?
ok, really weird issue
At first it worked fine, after i managed to put the strip on, i turn on and see blueish screen and everything is fine except graphics looks like 98 with blueish screen on top!
There are plenty of advises on the web if you Google for your subject. The most interesting ones are to place the phone without battery into rice for a week ot so, the other one is to place the phone without battery in refrigerator, well, all of them say to NOT TURN ON YOUR PHONE at least for 4 - 5 days if not more. However, I had this problem with my previous device and now it is working like a gameboy with no radio. My home insurance payed me for this, so if you have home insurance, be prepared to claim.
EDIT : the moment problem has happened you must pull battery out and place it as far as possible from your phone for a few days.

so what do i do now???
Any way i can claim warranty - as in do something to the cell etc?
The blueish screen = nothing on internet can be found
Also its impossible for me to lock back the phone
Turn your phone off, remove battery throw it into a dehumidifier for a day. Don't touch it. The more you turn it on the more likely something will short circuit and permanently damage your phone.
Most warranties do not cover water damage and there is nothing you can do about that.
If you have insurence my advise report it lost and claim replacement i insured my sgs against everything i already replaced it once from killing it flashing it but i am covered for water and accidental

Most devices have a moisture detector for if you ever drop it into water, voiding your warranty.
bad move turning it on worst thing anyone can do.
If your in blackpool, uk i can look at it for you.
best thing to do if this happens to anyone is.
take battery out.
put phone in a sealed pub of rice.
leave for 2 weeks and pray.
never ever turn it on after liquid thats when the damage happens
Grim, just grim!
oh boy :-(
thanks for the tip with the rice, good to know just in case..
Sorry for reviving this thread.
I too got the phone wet. I put it through a blower dryer and in a bag of rice.
the screen is fine no discolorations and it booted right up,but crashes on the desktop. i restart it and it stays at the galaxy s2 screen. i can enter recovery and so on, but i don't want to restore if i have too.
What should I do?

A crash at the desktop would normally indicate a software problem, but it is highly unlikely that the water had caused damages to the software. Rather, the water probably damaged the processors necessary to run the software. You can enter recovery mode probably because recovery mode does not require the full power of the processors.
So I think if there is any hope of saving your phone at all, you should reflash the firmware from recovery mode.
Do a nandroid backup, reflash and see if it was problem with ROM.

i attempted a nandroid (I already have a saved nandroid) but wanted to backup this one since i'm not sure it sync some of the contacts.
when attempting the nandroid i got an error during thee backp portion of the data.
does that mean i should just recover from my original backup?
Hey guys! I have searched the forums and haven't found a problem quite like this yet. Recently, I got some water on my phone, but was able to wipe it off, and it worked fine, and the water damage indicators on the phone are still white. During that day though, after rebooting the phone, the screen appeared to not turn on, so i thought it WAS water related damage, of course.
I put the phone in rice for a few days, and NOTHING, till one day i looked at the phones screen under intense light.
The phone vibrates after you power it on, but then that's all you get, but upon further inspection under a bright light you can see the MAGLDR boot screen come up, and load all the way to the GO GO GO part, then it freezes and stops.
The screen is still black, and there's no light at all, you have to hold it DIRECTLY under bright light to see it.
I am ..or was...running the android NexusHD2 gingerbread 2.2 NAND (2.3.2) rom with MAGLDR 1.12 installed.
I can get into the boot menu, and all the hard buttons work. I can even play tetris, when i can see it. >.>
The MAGLDR seems to work fine, the android doesnt work, or load anyway.. I an go into USB flasher, option 5 on the boot menu, and reload android, but it does not resolve the problem.
Any suggestions oh wise XDA members?
I am not an expert when it comes to the hardware side of tbe HD2, bjt I am learning. It kinda sounds like you may have got some water inside the unit either through the speaker opening t the top of the front of the phone or in around the small openimgs around the buttons at the bottom of the front of the phone. My bet is it was the buttons cuase this is close to the digitizer. And it sort of sounds like the digitizer is malfuncting.
Seeing as you have tried reflashing the ROM the only real sugestion I got is maybe get you a small hex head screwdriver and open up your HD2. Take the mainboard out and the digitizer out and very lightly use a hair dryer on the low setting to try and dry them out. make sure to bold the dryer a good distance from them cause you do not want to get them hot just dry them out.
Now you still have a waranty I would just do a warranty exchange or have them repair it. If you don't have a warranty and don't want to try this I do not blame you. It is just the only idea I have. You can always find a cell phone repair shop and have them do it.
Best of luck.
This happened to me too. My HD2 was completely submerged, but luckily for me I had the torx needed to immediately open it up. I didn't use a dryer, but I did towel it off. Then I just left it off and apart for 5 days before I actually put in the battery and turned it on. I did have to replace the screen because it cracked to hell, but my main concern was knowing that it would still function. Good Luck.
Okay, I contacted HTC today after reinstalling winmo 6.5 stock for the HD2, A guy named bob told me I could send it in and have it repaired covered by HTC. My guess is that because the water damage indicators are white, they shouldn't void me, right?
I am guessing it IS the digitizer because of the following reasons.
Winmo works fine, though the sim card will need to be replaced, which is no problem. the touch screen does not function and the screen is still black and wont light up, but winmo boots successfully, like I said, viewing under bright light.
I think I am going to try and send it to HTC, if they say its void, then I am going to try repairing the digitizer, as the tmo digitizers are readily available now. Before that though, I will try your suggestion T-Macgnolia.
I'll post my results soon!
