FWIW, without root you can use mxplayer for movies ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mxtech.videoplayer.ad ).
In the app, under settings > audio > volume boost, it will let you go 200%, which is nice to have the option. Just be careful because it is possible to damage your speakers. When I use it, I generally only go no more than about 150% to 175% because that's all I need at times and I don't want to overdrive the speakers. The app volume goes by 1 to 15 without boosting, with boosting it is 1 to 30.
Otherwise, I do a partial boost with mxplayer when using my bluetooth speakers (soundfreaq soundkick) and it makes a nice "mini-theater".
Hope that helps.

From experience, the ultimate combo is MX Player + Viper4Android.

Sound boost?

Is there a way to boost the maximum volume? I used audio boost for my GS2 and was wondering if there were any other apps that did this for the Nexus 7, especially for Netflix, which always seem quieter than the rest of the device
I thought I was going mad when I could have sworn Netflix was quiet. Was wondering about an audio boost app.
On my prime I use Volume+
for the prime i use volume +7, bass +4. And it sounds awesome. Not sure which settings to use on the nexus as I dont have mine yet, just play around with it. Works great.
Different profiles for bluetooth, headphones, speaker, etc .

[Q] How to boost Headset sound volume ????

Hello all,
Before my Nexus 4 I have a Galaxy Nexus, and I love to listen music in maXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX volume,
On the GN, I can find easily kernels with easy and good sound boost, in trickster mod,, just have to chose between 0 1 2 3 sound boost, and enable or disable HQ sound
And it really works well with a Goood sound
On my Nexus 4 I tryed to play with my preferd player : PowerAMP, I tryed to boost replay gain, enable/disable direct sound control, tryed to boost volume in DSP manager, boost volume wiith franco kernel headset and volume boost options...... but when I try any sound boost, rapidly the sound become stronger but with a very poor quality, and horrible crackling.....
I tryed XLOUDER on my GN and N4 but for me i'ts just a renamed DSP manager.
Somebody have a GOOD way to boost the sound with good quality please ? any app/kernel/hack ?
Because I LOVE listen music with the volume to maximum, but not with this horrible crackling ....
Thanks a lot for replies
I use the xlouder mod posted on the themes and apps section with the franco kernel app with the volume boost set to 6 and gain set somewhere to 4 to 6. It realllllllllllllllllllly helps out alot. If you want some good dsp manager settings set the compresion to minimal and bass boost to moderate and set the equalizer to be in the shape of a u with the two end values set to be the biggest but not all the way. Set it to either strong or strongest.
Also you need to have good headset because if you have a cheap one then it will crackle and sound really bad im using monster turbines and they work great without any crackling. There is a bit of hiss due to the volume gain set to be higher then normal but it really doesnt bother me.
thanks,
but if I try to change everithing in DSP manager, or with xlouder, the sound becomes crappy directly
in franco, if I push the headset gain or boost after +3 the sound become crappy....
And if I try XLOUDER, if I just set bass boost in Small (the first) all my earphones gone to explode with bass saturation... even if i try to plug my home Sony amplifier, the sound is completly saturated with bass.....
for earphones, don't worry I have Sennheiser CX 890i , never have any problem with my GN

[Q] S4 i9505 Low sound volume on headphones

Hello guys, I just want to ask if it is normal for i9505 s4 to have low volume sound on using headphones even on full volume?
I tried the same headphones on an itouch and it is much louder on full volume and when i tried it on s4, the volume is just half as the itouch volume even on full.
Thanks.
I too have an iPod Touch and at full volume it can be slightly louder than the S4 but I don't listen to my music at full volume so it doesn't bother me. If you're still running the stock ROM, you can try using Adapt Sound. Works only with the stock music player though.

With my IEMs I find it loud enough. As mentioned if you use the stock music player run adapt sound it increases the volume.
Otherwise you can install a kernel like Faux kernel and he has implemented sound control you can increase the gain and boost volume even louder if you wish.
Or you can install Viper4Android and boost volume on that too.

Thanks for the reply guys. I just got my s4 and I'm currently afraid of flashing stuff and etc..
Will flashing a new kernel/rom trigger my knox status? it currently have 0x0.

Any app/fix for better camera and higher-volume music?

Two things that annoy me with the N4 are
1) the camera, how long it takes to focus and snaps pictures that are blurry because of very minor shaking.
2) The native output-volume of music - both on headphones or using AUX cable in a car - the volume is very low.
So, any Camera app that fixes the stated focus problem? Any music player that produces higher-output volume?
The first one is better if you put it in Action mode or at least without HDR. And the second is just the hardware.

Volume can be improved with apps like poweamp which has a built in pre amp. (No root needed) also volume+ root and no root.
I believe there is also a build prop tweak that can also improve volume but I haven't tried obviously root needed. Hope this helps.

Franco Kernel also boosts speaker and headphones. I boosted headphones by 8 for noisy places like flights.
