hello,
i freshly installed cm 11 nightly on my n7 grouper. i use the device together with my son. i am the main user, my son has his own user account, not restricted. if i unlock my account i am able to copy files over to the device from my pc(via mtp), but the same thing is not possible if i unlock my sons account and try it out. i searched a bit, but couldn't find a thread regarding this problem. can someone tell me if this is a general problem, a bug or something i have to activate to make it possible, please?
(i have to copy his minecraft worlds over there, or i will be in big trouble )
Have you tried transferring the file to your account via a file manager THEN transferring to PC!?

Ive downloaded 1000's of apps and games for Android. Ive copied a few to my SD card but I cant seem to get to them when booted up in Android. Any one know how this can be done e.g. a short cut? Or is this not possible due to the market place activation?
Sorry if this has been answered before but i cant find it...
Any help would be great.
Cheers

Use DroidExplorer to install them, and make sure that "unknown sources" in application settings is selected.
I have found Dropbox is the easiest way to install apk files.
I have completely replaced, Astro, AndroZip, and Installer with.... Open Explorer. It does everything all 3 do, plus it enables bowser downloads without causing issues with Gmail attachments.
Great program.

Ok, Ive been at my wits end trying to figure this problem out. My Nook is properly rooted and even has the ADP thing show up in my device manager. I got market working and played Angry Birds for a few hours last night. The only problem Ive run into is actually getting files, such as E-books, music, etc from my PC to the device. When plugged in, the device doesn't show up in my computers like normal.
My first attempt was unmounting the SD card, removing it from the Nook and inserting in my PC. It showed up under My Computer as a "boot" device. I was able to explore it and the only viable folder that contained folders such as music, downloads, etc was under something called .002trash (as I remember). I placed a few files in the download folder, placed it back in my Nook, rebooted and searched for them with a file manager I got off the market. The folders I originally saw when i mounted the SD card in my PC were there, but the files I placed in their were not.
I also tried the SDK route, installed and reinstalled a multitude of times and cant for the life of me get my device to show up. Also tried a market app called Astro. The only problem with this app is it requires me to enter my server name a bunch of other info. Im more of a hard wired type of person so not too technical with wireless. I attempted my 192.168...... number and that was a no go.
There may be a simple solution to this problem but I haven't been able to find it in the past few days and totally frustrated. Any help is greatly appreciated.
You may want to check out this thread, I was having similar problems and this is what I had to do.

I used the Kindle Fire Utility to install Android Marketplace.
Works like a charm - thanks.
I entered the wrong Google account e-mail when I signed into the Google marketplace for the first time.
There don;t seem to be a way to add a second account or delete the one I logged in. I don;t see a way to log out?
Any way to install multiple accounts? Log out of the account I am in so I can log into another account?
Thanks in advance.
Did you try deleting accounts.db from " /data/system/"?
I cannot even find that.
I browsed the drive - even did a search and no .db files
Thanks
Do you have adb setup?
if so, do
Code:
adb remount
adb shell rm /data/system/accounts.db
If not, you will need something like Root explorer. ES File explorer (free on the market) could likely do it to, but takes a bit more setup to put it in root mode.
Note: Not sure what you mean by searched the drive. The file is not on your SD card.
Kind of a noob still, but I got you now.
I took another route, Restored to default.
RE-rooted - reinstalled marketplace.
Used right email.
Working.
But are we stuck with only one account on Kindle? Do I have to do what I did to use another account or use the account.db Erase method?
If so that quite sucks.
No you can add more accounts. But I am not on a stock based rom, so I can not provide specific details. I know you will need to open "Account & Sync" settings. There is not a shortcut to do it on a stock based rom.
I know you can download a app from the market to help you do this, Quick Sync Settings, I think?
I will check it out then, thanks!
DUDE!!! totally worked. I was able to ad more account then when I go to the account setting in market place it allows me to pick which one I want.
YOU ROCK!!!
Awesome. Glad I could help.
I'm a new Nexus 10 owner. Just rooted, flashed a rom, and set up my tablet.
Now, I want to set up another account for a friend. I did it but didn't realize that the file system is completely different. If I add a file in my account it can't be accessed from the other account. This isn't what I was expecting.
Is there any way to access the same files/apps with different user accounts?
Root explorer? Or any other explorer which can browse root folders.
Beamed from my CM10.1 Galaxy Nexus
1. Do you know what directory it would be in?
2. I'm using Solid Explorer, but on the other account it's saying I cant view certain folders because it isn't rooted. But on my main account I'm rooted and running AOSPA
edit: On my second account, it is NOT rooted! IDK why because my main account is rooted. How can I root both user accounts?

Look in /data/media. There are subdirectories with numbers for names: 0 is the "owner" user, and additional users count up from 1.

Rooting is a systemwide thing, not specific to a user, but root apps generally default to only granting access to the "owner" user. Look around in the settings for your root app; there should be an option to allow other users to access root as well. In SuperSU, for example, there's a checkbox on the settings page labeled "enable multi-user".
Thanks so much Wyzard! Works great now!
But is it possible to share apps between the 2 accounts? EX: install plants vz zombies without having to install it on both accounts?
edit: even though i can use a file explore to browse another accounts files, I tried opening an .apk but there was an error. I guess you cant share .apks

If you're installing from the Play store, it doesn't actually download it again, and "installing" the same app on a 2nd user won't take up much more space (only the additional app data specific to the 2nd user).

That's for the play store, what if I use an apk in my sd card?
Will it be installed twice?
No as long as it's the same apk I think because it makes it like a shortcut icon.

1) You can share the applications with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fivehellions.android.muappshare&referrer=utm_source%3Dsocial%26utm_medium%3Dforum%26utm_campaign%3Dapp_announcement (root required)
2) You can share files by putting them into /sdcard/Android/obb folder (even media scanner looks into that folder so you can store your photos, videos and music there). In case you are having a hard time accessing the OBB folder via ADB (for instace), go there via /mnt/shell folder
Cheers!
I used that app and it works great.
But I installed plants vs zombies on my main account, when I play it on the second it says I need to download the data which is around 150mb. I'm not sure we're the data is stored in the main account.
I want to be able to play the same game on different accounts and have different saved games. For example, my account will be on level 2 and the other account on level 12. Is this possible?
The data should be under android/data and yes it is possible because I did that with gta vice city and it worked fine and you shouldn't need to redownload the data

Hi all,
after I flashed MIUI on my Nexus 4, i cant see any of my data when i connect to PC/Mac. But i see it in Root file explorer in the phone. But the files doesn't reflect in any music player or the gallery. When i connect the phone to PC, it shows just 3GB space is free, but nothing shows up there. Can anyone help me or direct me in a way to get all my files back. It would be a lot of help, since I've been searching a lot and came out with no luck.
Thanks in advanced

All you have to do is download any Media Scanner app from the play store and then reboot. Then all your files should show up
Choose SDrescan from Google Play, it is the better choice
