Themes question

Sorry for the newbish question guys, but I am used to having a custom rom installed, and since I now have a cmda TP2 I do not have the privilege of doing so as of yet.
My question is, do I have to have a custom rom installed in order to use custom themes, such as one installed by a .cab file? Or are there some out there that do not require a custom rom?
I have been reading for a while and have not really seen any post that say you can or can't install themes in a certain rom, and would like to know before I start messing with it. If I don't need a custom rom then what are some you would recommend.

using ROM 2.20.531.1 can i apply Energy.Leo.23554.Sense2.5_with_Ma..7z?

Im a bit confused... My first time messing with Windows mobile.
I see a lot of references to 2.8 and 2.9, but can i use this ROM with 2.10?
Ive already successfully applied the HSPL, and it says that it worked.
No one knows? Id really like to try another ROM
Yes. Energy ROMS are 2.10 compatible. There is a Thread a top of the forums to tell you which ROMs are compatible with the T-Mobile USA HD2.
I see that thread, but the only ROM listed that sounds anywhere near Energy, is the NRG and it says nonTmous.
In the energy ROM thread it says there are TMOUS download versions, but I dont see a link for one.
Its confusing lol
he used to make a rom with tmo specific apps.he stop doing that since you can now download them seperatly.
All energy roms can be flashed to the US HD2 they just won't have the specific T-mobile apps. Here are the T-Mobile apps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653563

Manila version update

Hi everyone,
my Manila version is 2.5.19211619.0 and rom version 1.66.421.1(76641) WWE - I'm in South Africa
I want to install Cookie home tab 2.0 but I see if you have my Manila version your phone doesn't rotates the screen so I want to update my Manila but do I need a new rom or what?
If so which one and link please
tx
I think your best bet is a new rom. You can edit manilla but im unsure how safe a manual update is, i actually doubt its possible.
Assuming this is your first rom flashing, please read into it, its not that hard, but if you dont know what your doing you can pretty much ruin your phone. (until you read into it and do it properly anyway)
Its kinda up to you which rom you end up installing (flashing), personally ive been on Artemis for like a year now (since v7) and really like it, but theres also alot to say for other roms. once again, its up to you, look at what you need, and if the rom your looking at has that (and a compatible manilla)
Also there should be a official rom available, go to the HTC website, choose 'Support', choose HD2 from the dropdown, Click the downloads tab, and get the topmost rom listed, it gives you instructions when you run the file you download.
Good luck!
the official HD2 site for South Africa gives me an older rom... I have flashed the phone a few times so I know how it works. Just don't know how to update the manila.
But I installed Android Gingerbread on it for now to test it so will see if I like it I'll keep it else I'll get a new manila version (Entire rom)

[Q] What to do before flashing a ROM

Hey guys I need some help on what the procedure is before flashing a ROM to this phone. I have had other phones in the past that I have put ROMs on. Most of these phones have threads that have what you need to do before you can flash a ROM. However, I cannot seem to find one for this phone. So with your help I would like to make one for this phone. I just need to know what is need and the options are for it. I can then compile all of the info and make it look pretty for any one else looking for this information and hopefully have it sticky-ed.
Thanks for the help guys.
Hi.
First root using SuperOneclick
Allow install unknown sources in your phone
Install Defy 2init
That's it, you're ready to install any rom you want.
All this apps can be found easily here.
Hope it helps.

[Tutorial] Keeping WP7 Updated

Hi, XDA Members.
Sorry ahead of time for the wall of text.
I'm a fellow HTC 7 Trophy (Spark_W) user who was stuck in a 2 year plan. When I bought my phone new through Verizion, it shipped with the NoDo update and it took Zune a quite a bit of time to download the updates via a different sprint cell with unlimited. This was before I found about custom roms. I then proceeded to follow TheXev's instructions for downgrading (which required me to download another large file) and installing dft's rspl and then hspl (not as big).
I had been using the 8835 (assumed to be the 7.8 beta rom) by TheXev and I had looked around for a 8858 rom in the past. Then, Nokser and another individual, HD2Owner, had created roms for us. While Norkser hadn't owned a trophy himself as noted in his first post, I wish I had knew about manual updates through Zune.
Most of us xda members had began to browse other sites to find a rom or just stuck with their old rom because of its stability. I had just stuck with it expecting TheXev to come back with a stable rom. I wanted to test Nokser's rom to see if it worked. And it was quite exceptional at the time I had installed it via the tools that had came with it.
I had wanted to add more custom things into my own rom, such as a custom startup image like in a few other roms, but I had never saw anything specific for the Trophy, as TheXev has stated this is a picky device. I had began to follow the guide how to "cooker" a rom, and kinda fell short of making a rom as the guide recommended starting with someone else's roms. It was much more difficult than I had imagined, because people partially encrypt/scramble their roms. When I went to make it after finding out there are few unencrypted roms, I needed to find individual files that need updated from different phones, and I outright dropped it.
Anyways, it was nice knowing that there was a tool that simplified updates for those users that are still on older roms. I needed to go to the Official WP7 Updates List up to WP 7.8 + ALL LANGUAGES complete + OEM updates and download all the packages that include the language packs one might need and then the updates. I already was on 8858 and needed to go from 7.10.8858.136 to 7.10.8860.142 and 7.10.8860.142 - 7.10.8862.144 (these are difference files so they are only a few kilobytes).
From the CAB list guide:
You need to go through the list of CAB's very carefully. Select all the packages you need and download them:
All the core OS updates from the version you have to the version you want to have.
All the language-updates from the version you have to the version you want to have.
All the new language-updates you want to add from the first version available to the version you want to have.
All the OEM updates for the Brand/Model of your device.

You need to download EasyWP7Updater and extract the program anywhere. Then make sure Zune is closed before starting. It will remind you to do so. Then press "Install already downloaded cabs". Then "Add Cabs" Then, Send cabs. Just to make sure to press the button to backup. Its a good idea do it, because one of the updates might not be installed incorrectly. I also ran WPBackup. It requires WMDC installed along with Zune running in the background. I used WPBackup supplementary to backup my apps, for backing everything up and deploying it anytime if needed and it can be repeated more often than then the update process.
Thanks for the thorough post.
I updated the original post. Hopefully a moderator can come around and sticky this.
