Cant recieve or send texts without restarting - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

a first time poster and not sure if this has been covered in the forum already.
My friend recently got a GT-I9505 and also changed network (o2 to Vodafone(We are from Ireland)) From the beginning she has had problems sending and receiving texts and phonecalls. To make or recieve just one of wither she needs to restart the phone.
Ahe has sent the phonw back to the outlet the phone was bought, then to vodafone and most recently to samsung. These all state that they cannot find any problem. I have encountered simular problems but none as severe or as particular as this.
Please help as the phone is currently sitting idle and for auch a device this is criminal.
Thanks in advance

I recently bought 2 years old LG L7 II P710. Sometimes when I'm calling someone he can't hear me, otherwise works perfectly. To avoid this, when I am calling, I quickly turn on and off speaker.

[Q] French Motorola Defy+ with UK Retail ROM no connection to O2

Hi guys & girls,
My daughter keeps wrecking smartphones and so we got her a Motorola Defy+(PAYG). It was bought new and unlocked with the French Retail ROM and once i put in the SIM(O2-UK) and tried to top-up her credit(4444) it would not dial out and did not give any problem message. I also tried to ring her number from my phone which came up with "it has not been possible to connect your call - please try again later" message.
I did a hard reset and got the same problem so I downloaded the latest UK Retail ROM from XDA(this went on no problem) and tried again - Same problem. The box states it is for use in EU & UK/IE so this cannot be a problem.
I have the correct APN settings and have tried 2 other O2 SIMs but still the same problem exists??!!
The only thing i think it could be is a hardware fault and i need to send the phone back.
Everything else works fine WiFi, GPS etc etc.
Apologies for the long winded explanation but i thought you would get more responses this way :highfive:
Any assistance would be of utmost value as im stuck with a daughter needing her mobile like yesterday!!
The ril bug is present in the stock rom, which is responsible for this issue. The fix for this is board replacement. Alternatively you could try cm7, which will give you an error confirming the issue, and may even fix it

Thanks for you for the speedy response 'K Guy' I have messaged the seller and await his waffle before i get my money back. I would try CM7 if it was my phone but i'll wait to get my money back first.
Is there a phone similar to the Defy+ which my daughter wouldn't break in 5 minutes because i take it the ril bug would affect all Defy+ mobiles??
Once again thanks for your input :victory:
The closest would be one of those Xperia models, but nothing beats the indestructible defy. I have personally dropped mine 85854 times

Warning: Camera Failed

Well my S5 has been working flawlessly since I first bought it a couple of weeks ago but now I have the dreaded 'warning: camera failed' error whenever I try to go on the camera. I have tried battery pull/rebooting/freezing/clearing certain apps but no dice.
Hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come with other S5's as I have seen there is already a lot of talk about it elsewhere online but mainly with the US Sprint variants. Admittedly I have been using mine quite extensively but my S4 didn't suffer from this problem and I used that heavily too.
Hope I don't have to send it back for a replacement as what a ballache! Plus I'm not sure I'll even be covered as I have rooted and installed a custom recovery so my knox is tripped lol. If they won't cover it I'll just try and reseat the flex cable for the camera sensor or even order a new part.
I will update the thread after I have tried a few more things... !
(Bought the phone from o2, UK, BTW)
P.S the phone is now running much hotter as well even when idle... I think it is hardware related! I haven't made any app changes or updates it seems to have just happened out of the blue.
EDIT: Flashed stock rom and factory reset. Still can't use the camera ... GRRRR!!!

Everyone who has the hardware fault should post their seriel numbers so we can figure out which batch these phones are coming from.

I have a G900F from Hong Kong. No issues here. Had the phone for 2+ weeks now, and using the camera all the time. Touch wood!! :good:
If there's this problem experiencing by lot of people, is there any way to fix this?

Hey guys just a quick update o2 wasn't able to fix my phone so sent me a brand new one instead fingers crossed it was just a bad phone and won't happen again :good:
I've got a slightly different problem. Mine says recording failed, but I can take pictures.
I'm wondering if I removed something I shouldn't have with titanium backup though... I hope anyway...

I had it too...
But they replaced my old s5 to a new one without any problems ! :good:
I had "Warning Camera Failed" problem on my SM-G900SW (S5 in Canada), along with some other weird problems.
After reading an announcement from Samsung that the problem is ROM related download the stack image for my device/provider from Samfirmware and re-flashed the phone.
The problem went away, and so did some other issues.

[Q] Found Phone, what now?

Dear community,
Recently I found a Samsung Galaxy S5 on a football pitch, while playing. I'm living in the middle of nowhere, so i decided to wait for somebody to call it. There were no contacts or something like that, only 2 pictures of some strange stuff:laugh: Now I've waited for 2 weeks, and nobody has called the phone or anything. Now I decided to keep the phone. I factory resetted the phone and deleted all data and cache, it's completely empty now. My question is, can the phone be tracked by using findmyphone even though I've resetted it, or do I have to install a new Rom on it?
Sorry for my English btw
Cheers

At this point I don't think phone can be trackable, if you waited for 2 weeks that was enough time for them to tracking it down if phone was set up for some kind of tracking app. Have you checked the ESN/IMEI? may be reported as lost now
Would be interesting what strange stuff was on the pictures. Was the phone part of a crime? Were it nude photos?
We will never know because you just deleted everything.
Depending on what was on the phone I would have brought it to the police or to a shop of the carrier used (if found with sim card). They could have found the owner within minutes or at least a few hours.
Despite that every phone has a so called IMEI number which can be tracked down independent from the sim used. You can change that number if you know how but there is a high risk of hard bricking the phone. And in fact I hope you hard brick it because you just deleted someones phone without trying to find the owner.
Have a nice day.

So you're trying to prevent the real owner of the phone from tracking/finding his own phone?
Guys, it's been 2 weeks since he found the phone, he said he didn't get any calls, is not like he found the phone this morning and couple hours later he did a reset. If he is telling the truth

2 weeks don't make a difference. This is not right. He could still try to find the owner. And at least not try to prevent being tracked. Too sad that you support such behaviour.

Yeah... if the owner wanted his phone back, why didn't he look for it? 2 weeks not even a call!
Depending on where you live like in UK the network could sim block it if the owner decided to by calling their provider meaning it couldn't work on any network, so if you ever decide to sell it just remember there's always that risk.
I smell some fishy fishy business. How plausible is it for OP to find a phone with no contact/log/message list whatsoever?
I mean, not even a single text message?
Then OP would like to modify the phone to prevent it from ever being recovered. Sorry buddy, you won't find assistance here.
Classic symptoms of a "I illegitimately acquired a phone, and do not wish to return it!"
The phone is trackable through IMEI. Your local telecom commission has the power to block usage from the phone rendering it useless to you.
Well, if it has a Sim card in it, it should display what carrier network it's on...take it to them or the police. Doesn't sound like you tried very hard to find the owner or you stole it.

Well you did a factory reset so i guess you had the intention to keep the phone.

two weeks....Two months or 2 years won't matter...he isn't the real owner of the phone...and trying to blocking it from being tracked by original owner is the part that I have a beef with....He needs to turn it in tot he local police station and they will decide to give it back to him after a while that it's been unclaimed. He doesn't have the legal or moral authority to decide when he's gonna magically turn into the owner of the phone.

And what is the police going to do? nothing. They are busy resolving REAL crime not trying to find the owner of a lost cell phone, whom by the way may not even filed a lost report

Yeah... because in the real world you find a phone and you waste time and effort to try to find the owner, when the owner doesn't even care.
Around 80% of my contacts doesn't memorize their own number, moreso memorize other people's number which are already saved in their contact list. If he doesn't make a backup (gmail or not) he won't have any way to contact his own number. He can probably return the phone and sim to the carrier and they will contact the owner.
I'm saying that there is no real effort on his side and he clearly has intention not to return he phone. If there's a will, there's a way.
Report it as found at the local police and at the provider and wait if the owner will claim it.
Sent from my SM-G900F using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I have to agree... doesnt matter how long its been. It matters what you've done to find the owner. The most obvious thing would be to get the number/carrier off the phone and take it to one of their stores as they can easily look up the number and know who it belongs to

[Help] Callers reporting echo and feedback on other end

I created a thread in the T-Mobile forum, so I hope this doesn't seem redundant, but I didn't find many solutions on that thread. Here's a thorough explanation of the problem that I'm having and everything about my device. If requested, I'll upload screenshots from my phone that could potentially help, but I have uploaded a photo of my "About device" screen. Apparently the issue I'm having is very likely not hardware related, so if anyone could solve it I would really appreciate it.
Details on my device: My device model is a the T-Mobile variant (G900T). I purchased it from a reputable seller on Swappa in "Open Box, New" condition. Upon receiving it, I immediately unlocked it via Unlockunit, which is apparently a good site for unlocking phones. I received the code with no problems and it worked. My phone has had the problem I am about to describe since making my first call about eight days ago.
Problem: All callers are reporting that they hear themselves echoing on their end of the call. Basically, when they talk, they hear themselves talking as well as me. They report my voice as sounding like I'm "in a tunnel." Also, when I move the phone, they pick up a lot of distortion. This happens during all phone calls and is not dependent on the signal strength or location of the person I am calling. It does *NOT* happen when using speakerphone.
What I've done to try to solve it (nothing has worked): I've factory reset my device both from the "Backup and reset" menu and through Odin. I called Samsung who helped troubleshoot the device. The representative had me clear the cache in the phone app, remove the battery and SIM, and replace the battery and sim. I then contacted AT&T who tried a few things in the background (details were never given on what was going on) and said they would check the towers in my area. Next I tried swapping SIMs which also did not work.
Current state of the phone: The phone is currently completely stock, unrooted, and with no custom recovery installed. Still, I am experiencing the issue.

Yeah, I read about that but I don't have a Lifeproof case. Thank you for the suggestion, though.
Bumping this again. I'll be sending the device out for repair tomorrow unless somewhere on here can help me figure this out. I really don't want to do that, though, because my Knox is tripped and I'm pretty sure that it won't work out for me, but it's my last hope. Hopefully someone on here can solve this. Thanks!
Still having this problem. I hope there's someone out there who knows how to fix it.
