D800 update procedure - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't feel like the minor update (which my phone didn't come with) is worth uninstalling TWRP and unrooting, so I'm just going to keep this for future reference. Right now I am on the stock ROM, but I'm rooted, have a few bloatware apps uninstalled, and have TWRP recovery installed.
If I wanted to go back 100% to unrooted, unmodified stock as easily as possible, what would I have to do?

Stock Recovery Flashable?

Hello,
Apologies if I didnt find it after searching but:
I was looking to get stock recovery back onto the S4. I know I can Odin back to stock but being that my phone is already set up it would be nice to just flash stock back and be happy
Thanks!

That means, flash the Odin? I have a such rooted ROM and I still have twrp.

I'd you're wanting to remain rooted, then you will need a custom recovery.

I used to be on stock recovery rooted and was able to update ota while keeping root with ota rootkeeper... And stock recovery

Every rot method I've seen requires installing a custom recovery. Either twrp or cwm.

So, you want a recovery that has no abilities? No backups. .. no restores. ... reinstall motochopper then.

It's possible to extract the stock recovery from the Odin image and flash it independently. Check it out in this post. Be warned that it's only for AT&T S4's and it's possible to brick your device pretty badly if you flash the recovery to the wrong place.

yes, you will have to use the odin, and then root again. unless you're running a custom rom, then you will have to full wipe your device.

[Q] Tmobile on Att

Just curious I have an unlocked I337. Wanting the tmobile Caller id that comes with the stock tmobile variant. Is there a way to port that to the att I337?:cyclops:
Have you tried to run a t-mobile Rom?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda premium
I have not. Havent had a lot of luck flashing roms on the s4. I might try sooner or later. Just tired of getting error messages and having to restore. I am rooted with motorchopper.

We don't even know if OP is on MF3. A suggestion like that could result in a brick.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if he's on MF3 he has root, but no recovery, so he wouldn't be able to even flash a Rom to brick it

There is no way you checked out those links that quick. And if you did, you would have clearly seen the answer to your question. Take some responsibility for your device. I have told you EXACTLY where to look for what you need, it is up to you to take the time to read and learn about it.
I read the entire post there was hardly any mention of the i337 mainly the m919 it says flash your kernel but which is that since I am flashing a tmobile rom on a att phone using tmobile service.

Sprint update available for me.

There is a 110mb update available through sprint for me called ls980zv7_01_to_zv8_13. Do I need to unroot before applying this update? I don't want to brick my phone again.

Nope. It's still there. Might have to bite the bullet and revert to stock.
Anyone have any info on the update?
I tried searching real quick but didn't see anything.

What update? That's also a pretty big size for a minor update, if so, KitKat? Hey a man can only hope haha

Just found it.
Says audio enhancement and google security patch...
That doesn't add up.
They're leaving a lot out obviously.
I can't post the link on here because it changes a couple parts of the link to smiley faces.
Go here: http://support.sprint.com/support/
Select lg.
Select g2.
On the far right near the bottom under "Device Resources" select "Find and update the software version on your LG G2"

I reverted to stock to install it. Its the same android version. The software version number changed to LS980V8. Can't notice anything that is changed.
I've been stock but no update for me

Which instructions did you use to revert to stock? I'm stock rooted with twrp. I'm guessing that I need to revert back to stock recovery at the least.

Questions Before Rooting

Hi, I've had my G2 for a couple weeks now and I absolutely love it. The only thing is that I've gotten so sick of the loads of bloatware and useless junk that I've decided to root it. I've rooted 3 or 4 phones before and the methods for the G2 seem just about as easy as it gets. I found 2 guides, one for actually rooting and one for installing TWRP recovery. I was just wondering if it matters what order I do this in, and also whether or not these guides are all I need to get my phone all ready to flash roms and all that other fun stuff. I've included the links to the videos below. Thanks in advance

Yes I know about this thread. But in regards to installing TWRP, should I do this before or after rooting the phone?

How to get root on d80020c

OK so my first g2 got stolen, I filed a claim and the g2 shipped to my already has the KitKat update. I know that there isn't a root method for it yet so my question is can I downgrade using the method in the development then root with the method already known? Or do I have to just wait till a method is found for KitKat?

it has step by step to go back to stock 4.2, root, get recovery and flash like I said currently that is the only way for any device to keep recovery on kk(most devices with official kk and sources have got a specific rom to do so)
