[Q] Which picture mode do you use ? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Which one do you guys use ? I compared my brothers iphone 5s with my note 3 (using dynamic mode) and the iphones colours were much more natural.
Should i use another picture mode ? Dynamic looks very vibrant which seems nice but im not getting the natural proper life colours.
What's your suggestion ?
Thanks.

SAMOLED vs LCD = Big difference in colours my friend, uncomparable. My HTC One was SLCD and the colour tones were great, AMOLED on the other hand enhances differently but just as good.

I changed my display mode to movie and the colours are now much more accurate and detail is great too. With the oversaturated colours that Dynamic had , i was losing on some detail , even during hd movie playback.

Use Movie Mode for sRGB/natural colours.

AMOLED is more colorful than Super AMOLED!!!

Hi , I'm Sultan.
I have 2 devices : Samsung Galaxy S i9000 and Nexus One.
when i open the same application in these 2 devices , like Talking tom
i got that Nexus one screen is more colorful and better.
when u open white pages , you will see SAMOLED is little blue and AMOLED is White.
SAMOLED is changing original colors of any app or video.
is there any solution for this problem. Like changing the colors temp to standard.
I want to fix I9000 screen.
it's like when u change the LCD Screen temp of colors to cold.
Thanks , Sultan

In my experience the automatic brightness is quite "low" (weak), and when I want to see beautiful colors I usually go in the Display --> Brightness settings and instead of auto I put it at max, then the colors are more vibrant than in any screen I've seen.
SAMOLED at full blast is blinding powerful colour show man, yesterday i was playing around with some system tools and the damn App set the display to MAX i was left almost blinded
the colours were amazing! at full capacity, my 1080p 25" 10000:1 LCD pale compared to the SAMOLED
And what happens with battery drain when brightness is set to MAX?
Big impact? Low impact? In the middle?
I would say that colors that S-AMOLED outputs are way more vivid than AMOLED screens.

PS
Although color temperature is different on the two phones.
Better colour temperature on the GS compared to Nexus/Desire, some may like the overly saturated look of the latter handsets however...
Guys , try to run talking tom app in both GS and Nexus one. And see who has better colors.
(( Is there any way to change colors temperature ? )).

I think there is via stock video player but don't know if it changes the entire color of the interface.
There could be a difference in running 3D apps, probably in different drawing of textures, I really don't know...

Actually, the Nexus one (and HTC Desire) screen is over-saturated, with a STRONG tendancy to orange/red.
When you open a white screen, it's a dim white.
When watching media/movies, SAMOLED gives a LOT more vivid and true colors.
If anything, the Nexus screen is "changing" the colors of every app.

Grainy Screen

I just received my Xoom WiFi today. Background info : I own an iPhone and a Macbook Pro. When I first started up the Xoom, the first thing I noticed was that the honeycomb graphics were a little pixelated. Then I noticed the same thing in the music players - the album covers seemed pixelated.
Am I just spoiled by the retina display? Even the camera seemed like it wasn't 'HD'.
No one has a reply?
The xoom has a higher resolution but the screen is not as vibrant as others. Not sure how you would see pixels b/c of that. I dont see any pixels but I do only have 20/20 vision and view at a normal distance.
I dont notice any pixelation.
Compared to my girlfriends ipad2, the colours are not quite as saturated. I do notice the blacks seem better on the xoom and easier to read text while a webpage is scrolling.
There seems to be 2 different screens used on the xooms. The dmesg output says I have the AU optronics one.

Yes... But, I too own an iPhone 4 & Touch 4G, but you forgetting about the pixel density, not just resolution. In other words, a smaller display size given the same resolution will appear to the eye, to yield better visual results (notwitstanding color, screen technology, etc..)...
A fairer comparison would be between the Xoom and an iPad - where the Xoom has better resolution but a larger display surface...
As for album art, it really depends on how the software renders the graphic & its stored size, in which case I agree with you - Apple has a better design point...
Make sense?
Best to you,
John
Thanks for the replies!
I was talking about the album art of the sample media on it.

galaxy s II display contrast

Hello.
Anyone else noticed that the display is lower quality than sgs ?
I mean in terms of gamma.
I am a photographer and I was amazed how good the contrast and brightness f the first galaxy was, however this one seems to have way too big contrast, making everythig that is dark much darker, giving a fake and strange appearence.
Also the auto brightness in general is lower than sgs.
Does somebody know if it can be tweaked through a kernel recompile, like sharpness and color in voodoo ?
Go to options-->display-->uncheck automatical screen power adjustme(don't know the exact english term, got it in dutch). I bet it is this again...
Let me know... you're not the first one.
No, it's not that but thanks
It's the actual gamma of the driver I think
However I did notice there is now a "background effects" that can adjust saturation and hue so there is access to the drivers. Maybe a bunch of new effects added there like "classic gamma, normal saturation..."
I came from the captivate, and ran just about every rom that was out there. One of the ubiquitous mods was the color fix. I noticed when I first booted the SGS2 up, the color was off (in relation to my expectations) sure enough in display settings there was an option to change it. Without looking I believe it's called "cinema", which perfectly returned that color richness I loved.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
there is something wrong with auto brightness , it doesnt work very well , but its not true that SGS 2 has a lower quality display than sgs , Super AMOLED Plus displays are an upgrade to Super AMOLED. They use a real-stripe subpixel matrix and not pentile - and so has 50% more sub-pixels. The PPI is a bit larger but Samsung will soon make them at much higher resolutions. Super AMOLED Plus displays are also thinner, brighter and use 18% less energy than the older Super AMOLED displays.

Screen Modes Comparison?

I've noticed in the phonearena review that there is a new Adobe RGB screen mode and a new Adapt Display option. Are there any articles that show and tell exactly how these work and if the colour reproduction is as good as the iphone 5 or HTC one?

I was wondering the same. I didn't care for the colors on the S3 and find my iPhone 5 screen/colors much better. I think I'm really going to like the S4, particularly if you can change the display modes.

htc has Super LCD
iPhone has IPS
and Samsung has Super AMOLED with some special matrix of pixel from Samsung
So samsung devices are little bit darker than iphones and htcs and thr s little bit problem in sun-light to use tham (u will have to set brightness to 100% to use galaxy S3 (for example) on sun-light)
u can search Galaxies pixel matrix on google and check lots of img about it so u will get ur answer better.

To the OP, check this piece via GSMArena (with links to the original source) - looks like the Adobe and Film modes are the real deal for colour temperature and accuracy. Colour accuracy is dramatically better than the One, which has a colour temperature of ~8000 (worse than the S3, decidedly blue tint that discolours greys in particular, I notice the same on my HTC BUtterfly).

[Q] Screen modes on GE S4

Hi,
I've just flashed the GE rom on my international I9505 and I'm not missing any of the extras except for the screen modes. I really hate the over saturated colors of the amoled and was really happy using "movie" mode on touchwiz.
My question is - is it possible to port this functionality to the GE rom or is there an app for ajdusting the screen?
Thank you all!

Actually in S4 standard screen mode is the most accurate one because screen is magnitudes better than S3, which produced extremely over saturated colors in standard mode.
here's in depth review of S4 screen, as you can see Standard mode produces the most accurate colors.

Hi,
I didn't watch the video as it it 22min long, but I can tell you that standard is not accurate by any means. You don't even need to compare it to anything else to notice that. Reds/pinks are terrible and so are some shades of blue. I work on a calibrated monitor so this really bothers me.
I can see the average user liking standard better, but it's nice to have the option.
And here i thought every galaxy s owner used the dynamic screen mode

i linked exact time code in the video where each display mode is reviewed with charts, and standard mode clearly has the most accurate color reproduction. now please show me proof that standard mode isn't good?

Either way, I don't know why you started this argument. I just asked if it was possible to port this to the GE rom.
Interesting bit from the second link
The S4′s display is also notably more efficient than the S3′s. Average power efficiency for the S3 (compared at the same hypothetical screen size) came out to 0.83W. The S4, in contrast, hits 0.70W. That’s within spitting distance of the iPhone 5′s 0.66W and it’s another sizable improvement for OLED technology.
